Had a great time at The Eagle celebrating a friend's birthday. She had called in a reservation ahead of time and the max reservation you can make is for 8 people. To be seated, all 8 guests need to be there- so make sure your group is prompt or else you'll be waiting! I would recommend choosing an entree and then splitting the sides. The sides are all decent size and that way you can save a buck. Between our table I think we got at least half of the side options and everybody enjoyed getting to try them all. I personally got the fried chicken sandwich and the spoonbread. The chicken sandwich was delicious, I opted for regular mayo because I'm weak with spices, but friends said the spicy mayo was not too spicy. The choice of bread shape was a little interesting because at the end you'll get a couple bites of just bread. The spoonbread will remind you of pancakes because it's basically a sweet cornbread. Overall, a fun time with quick and happy service, good food and reasonable prices. The restaurant always seems to be bustling with people so you know it's a local hit. read more

This review is for delivery. I had the collard greens, Fried Chicken (Dark Meat), Biscuits, Collard Greens and Shrimp and Grits. I ordered from Uber Eats (twice/back to back because I forgot the biscuits and wanted more greens). The food was packaged well, it was still hot when it arrived. The only issue is that I requested utensils, hot sauce and napkins and that wasn't provided both times. It is sort of hard to eat Shrimp and Grits and Greens with no fork. We were in a hotel, not at home, so it was inconvenient. At first, I shrugged it off, but then my second order arrived with no utensils as well. When offering carry-out/delivery it is important to give customers napkins and utensils, especially when requested. I requested in the add on section and there is button to request them as well. For whatever reason, the request was ignored with both orders. The Chicken and Greens: 10s across the board. I don't eat everyone's greens. But their greens are worthy, ok! Perfectly seasoned. Great flavor. Tender but not too tender. They have a nice little kick. Very good. The fried chicken...same. Well seasoned, fried well, great breading. It was awesome. The honey is good. It has a unique flavor. I liked it, my friend is not a fan. Hopefully, I will get to try it in restaurant . The food sat for a while because I had to go hunt for utensils. I am sure the food would have been even better if I was able to eat it when it was first delivered instead of hunting for utensils. The Shrimp and Grits: They were pretty good. My husband is pescatarian so there was not much to choose from on the menu entree wise but we did sample the pimento cheese platter, Mac and cheese side, collard greens, and cornbread skillet. I am very picky about pimento cheese, but this one was good. The highlight of the cheese board was the homemade pickled green beans and pickles - so so good, the green beans are a must try! If you are used to good ole fashioned homemade collard greens from the south , these will not be the best you have tasted but they are still okay. I tried a local beer after finding out the tax on locally made alcohol goes to the schools. I had the Bubbles from Rhinegeist (photo). Visiting Cincinnati for work, The Eagle was the first place I stopped in right after landing from a flight. Boy, I saw just how nice Ohioans can be. I sat down and the bartenders were super nice and inviting. Then, a local sitting next to me bought shots for folks sitting around her and for me. Wow, I've never seen that kind of generosity just off the bat before. I talked with the locals, and the bartender delivered excellent service. The food, the fried chicken was also amazing. I'm a fried chicken connoisseur and this place passes. The fried batter was crispy and spiced well, the meat was juicy and flavorful. People really know how to make you feel welcome here, even as a solo diner. I've eaten many places because I have to travel often for work, and the atmosphere here is probably among one of the best I've ever experienced. You can see the amount of reviews I have, and that's probably only a 1/3 of the places I've been to. I went back for my last day in Cincy, and I rarely ever go back to the same place twice, but I enjoyed myself the first time around I wanted to go back to where I felt really welcomed. The bartender who was the hostess that night, actually remembered me. The new bartender made me really feel welcomed as well. I had the Chicken BLT sandwich this time, and it was also really good. I appreciated that it wasn't all meat and portioned well, with tons of fresh veg so I didn't feel completely unhealthy. At the end of the meal, I got and paid for my check. The folks at the bar were talking about how important the Bengals game was that night. The bartender actually told me that if I wanted to hang out, feel free to, and that was after I already paid my bill. I've never seen this sort of service and hospitality where I'm from (VA/DC), and I thought that was really nice seeing as how the game was an hour away. Back at home they would have the look of GTFO once they sense you are done spending. I didn't stay for the game, but I appreciated mentioning that and tipped him well. If I'm back in Cincinnati I would definitely come back here, not only for the delicious food, but also for the great staff and locals who hang out here. read more

Instead of giving us a table, the hostess put a small wooden divider in the middle of a booth and said we would be sharing it with others, if more people arrived. She seemed annoyed that we even came in... There were 8 open tables inside we passed on the way to the booth... and more outside. The restaurant never filled up. Instead, we were crammed into 1/2 a booth for no reason. Incredibly cheap way to seat more people & one of the absolute silliest, most annoying things a restaurant has ever done. The eagle has been yet to be topped on my list of chicken spots! We came in on a Friday around 6-7Pm with no wait (surprisingly enough) and sat inside. Out waitress was very nice and attentive and even gave some recommendations. We got the Hushpuppies, mac& cheese, chicken sammy, and 1/4 dark meat! Been hearing about this place for ages, and since despite not eating many fired foods or meat, for some reason I've been craving fried chicken. Wandered in on a Friday evening (while there was a soccer game in the area no less) and it was crowded! It was jammed packed! They didn't blink when I told them one, just headed out and brought a bar stool to an area where they normally don't seat. Had a very good craft beer, and ordered 1/4 a chicken (choices included whole or 1/2 as well). Perfectly fried and a real bam when I bit in. It's served with honey that helps tame the spicy, making it a hot/sweet combo. Oh so very good. As was the slaw and biscuit. This place has the BEST fried chicken I have ever had!! They also have delicious mashed potatoes and mac n cheese! This place was so good we came in 2 times during our weekend trip to Cincy! If only we were from here... we would go here all the time! Their fried chicken is sooo juicy and crispy. Literally cooked to perfection. And we are not the only people who know that. During the weekends they are super busy. I definitely recommend making a reservation online a day or a few days before. You cannot go wrong with anything from their menu. The Eagle has become a must for fried chicken in the Cincinnati area, but until this past weekend, I'd never tried it. We walked up on a Saturday afternoon around 12:30 with no reservation, hesitant about our chances (their website the night before had said there were no slots available) but were able to snag the end of one of the "communal" tables that has the little divider on it. Basically we got one back and corner seat of a large booth while another couple occupied the other half. It's not a private booth but it's about as private as you'd be sitting next to another occupied table. We ordered Arnold Palmer and water to drink, which came out quickly, and then put in our orders for food. My husband had the chicken BLT and I got the 1/4 dark meat chicken. We got the biscuits and collard greens to share. The chicken BLT was an immense sandwich with a lot going on, but very good. Personally, though, I preferred the simplicity of some straight-up fried chicken. The 1/4 dark bird comes with 1 thigh and 2 drumsticks, plus a side of their spicy honey. The chicken was great and crispy, though if I'm being honest: not what I expected. I figured a place known for fried chicken was doing the whole batter thing, but the Eagle's is more of a seasoned breadcrumb coating. It reminded me a lot of the texture of Hattie B's Nashville hot chicken but without the kick, though I will say it was well-seasoned and tasty. The hot honey was alright, but I liked the chicken better without it. The biscuits were nice and came with perfectly soft butter and a tart jam (blackberry?) that paired nicely with the richness of the food. I'd order them again. Collard greens were tender and bitter, and another good companion to offset the richness--although I think I'd probably try a different side next time instead of reordering this one. Speaking of a return trip, despite enjoying my meal I would make one tweak to my entree as well: Just above the different 1/4 chicken options, there is a menu item that is simply 5 drumsticks. This is one of the few restaurants I frequently return to since it's open. I visited again this past weekend with my partner and was shocked that this was his first visit. The chicken was superb (per usual!) especially paired with the hot honey sauce. We also ordered the Mac n cheese, spicy chicken dip, fries and biscuits. The Mac n cheese was mutually our least favorite. It's different then your standard Mac and felt like it was missing essential seasoning / butter. The spicy chicken dip was our mutual favorite! It was the perfect balance of spices and flavor. The fries were well seasoned as well. The biscuits were kind of tough. We sat on the patio to enjoy the weather and were surprised to find a few other couples that wanted to engage and give great tips on the menu (positive vibes!!) I was skeptical about a ... Chicken ... restaurant. However, I quickly became a believer. The chicken sandwich was out of this world. Service was great, and I didn't feel like I had been mugged after paying the bill. In short, as a message to restaurants everywhere in mid-2022, let me issue a challenge: The message is, Yes, you can. Take it from The Eagle. You CAN still hire people who want to work in restaurants. Yes, you CAN put out a quality food product, if you expend just some of the effort you did back in 2019 rather than "phoning it in". Yes, you CAN charge a fair price and still earn a profit without price-gouging the customer using an exaggerated post-Covid narrative about inflation and supply chain woes. This place lives up to the hype! A few people had recommended it to me, and I love fried chicken, so we stopped by on our first night here. I highly recommend making a reservation on OpenTable - I checked on TUESDAY, for a Sat. night reservation, and the latest I could get was 3:45pm. However, I called the restaurant the same day, and asked if I could switch it to 5pm, and they said yes, which was great. We started off with the brown maple sugar bacon, which was tasty although I have had better - it was also nice and crispy. We split a chicken dish, I think it was the 1/2 chicken, and it was four large pieces. The chicken was very tasty although a little bit spicy for me. Our waitress recommended at least two sides, and we got the mac 'n cheese, the cornbread skillet, and the sweet potato skillet with marshmallows. I'm not a big mac 'n cheese person but everything else was fabulous. The only "miss" here for me was the sweet tea: it didn't have much sugar and was kind of weak-tasting. I only had the one glass and then did not ask for a refill. They sat us at kind of a communal table, with a tiny divider in between; even pre-COVID I was not crazy about that kind of setup. However, the ladies sitting next to us gave us some recommendations on which sides to order/not order, which was nice of them. Definitely would come back here the next time I'm in town! I hit up the old Yelp app for this place. Big star ratings, and lots of positive reviews, but honestly it was all the awesome Yelpers pics of the food that sold me on stopping here. I'll start with the negative and end on positive. Location and parking. Not much they can do about the lack of parking, but it was still a hassle. Parking off street several blocks away means you're going to encounter some less fortunate individuals on the street. Again, not directly their problem, but the location and trying to get there kinda sets the tone. Staff and service. Showing up on game day and the place being busy would take a toll on any staff member. Everyone was nice, but just as much as they needed to be. I'm not looking for a foot massage from my waitstaff, but smile and look like you care. Bare minimum doesn't make for a good experience either. Cleanliness. Again, I know they were busy because it was game day. We were seated by the hostess at the bar before the dishes from the previous customers were removed. Then nobody wiped the top down before handing us menus. Also, fruit flies don't spawn only on Sundays. The fact that I'm swatting at multiple intruders while trying to eat, means there's an issue. Flavor. There was just a few things here. The mac n cheese was good but I just couldn't taste cheese. Their 5 blend of cheese was creamy but just bland. The crumbs on top didn't add much. Just no pop of flavor. Then my fried chicken BLT had some awesome mayo and relish on it but they must have been running low. I could only taste them about every third bite. Now the positive stuff. Price. I thought my sandwich for $13 and my mac n cheese for $8 was pretty reasonable. Menu. Not a lot of options but enough to get a decent meal. The few things they had was a broad enough variety to get what you're craving. They are definitely focused more on the drinks. Food. Overall everything was good. With a little more jalapeño honey mayo and avocado relish, my sandwich would have been perfect. Maybe switch out the crumbs for Italian crumbs or something with flavor and I would have been happy. Bathrooms. Actually cleaner than most. With the exception of no paper towels, everything was good there. Guys are pigs and they looked acceptable. Picked up dinner on a recommendation during my short stay in Cincinnati and it was fine. We picked up a 1/2 chicken, collard greens, cheese grits, macaroni and cheese and biscuits. What we didn't love was the chicken and the macaroni and cheese. The chicken had very soggy skin, which is not my thing, and the macaroni and cheese wasn't very good because it tasted like they used some old oil to cook/brown the panko (or whatever crumbs were on top). The mac and cheese itself was fine but the crust was not good, and ruined the taste of the whole thing for me. The grits were delicious, and my favorite part of the meal, the biscuits were second and the collard greens were third. I would eat any of them again and would give the mac and cheese another shot as well. I wouldn't eat the chicken again, just because I didn't like the skin and the meat itself was fine. Stopped in for an early lunch on the recommendation of a co-worker. We were the 1st folks in the door and were seated in the secondary space by ourselves. Immediately we had our server come and take our drink order and then provided some recommendations. To go on the healthier side we ordered a grilled chicken sandwich and then split that with the fried option. This was an amazing choice. Both sandwiches were exceptional and had very different taste profiles. This was probably the best grilled chicken sandwich I've ever eaten. Tender, perfectly cooked, and had a savory sauce and crunchy pickles to boot. The fried sandwich was perfectly done and very good served with slaw on a soft and tasty bun. I took my lady and we visited The Eagle for the first time last evening. We were particularly interested in trying their fried chicken dinner that we had heard so much about. The blackberry lemonade cocktail was weak and on the bitter side. When we ordered our whole chicken to split, I asked our waiter Cory if I could order an extra thigh piece. He abruptly and matter of factly answered "no" with no explanation. The tone of his answer surprised us...felt rude and condescending. We tried the Mac & cheese, Cole slaw and spoon bread as sides. M&C was good but the slaw wasn't tasty. My first bite of chicken was fall off the bone tender and it wasn't long before I realized the seasoning was spicy. The restaurant was clean and well decorated and the service was extremely fast...well managed. Their Chicken is great if you like spicy but the sides lacked their own distinct taste.
