I visited here today for breakfast/ brunch. The place was pretty busy for 9AM but in a good way. It was nice to see so many people gathered for food over the weekend. Despite the amount of people there, the ambiance and service were really great. Our waitress was really attentive, and made sure we were taken care of. We ordered a London fog latte, some black coffee, avocado toast with eggs and a tofu scramble. I just had my latte because I had lunch plans later but everyone I was with really enjoyed their food. First impression was excellent outdoor dining set up. There are an equal number of outdoor and indoor settings. Tables are bussed quickly and ready for the next group of in a timely fashion. The menu is fairly simple but full of great options. I had the cold brew as my beverage which was nice but next time I want to try the lattes. I started with a few bites of a blueberry muffin to hold over the baby. Surprisingly delicious for a muffin. Had a great crisp on top ad lots of fresh blueberries. The avo toast was my main dish with eggs on top. It was just right. Lightly mashed avocado with some marinated veggies and the delicious egg yolk. I would easily order it again. Great service. Since I've always driven past this place, I had decided to give it a shot for my birthday breakfast. Due to the high ratings this place has I had decided to make an exception and placed my order anyways. Love this place! Definitely a go-to spot for brunch for me. My favorite is the Cali sandwich that's a perfect blend of savory but their cloud cakes are also delicious and fluffy. I love that they have monthly drink specials so it's nice to stop by each month and try out something new. If the owners decide to make this a permanent placement on the menu, I'd like royalties... or at least a lifetime discount. Here's what you order: The BEC (on brioche) with avocado. The way all of these ingredients were just made to live together. I just... *chef's kiss* thank me later. My husband and I started going here post COVID so I can't exactly speak to the waiting service but the staff is always kind, never makes a fuss to take an order last min over the phone, and tries their best to make conversation even on pickup. They also do half-decaf because my silly old heart can't take a fully caffeinated drink! Drink was rich, cold, strong and yum. I think the owner was manning the shop and he was very friendly as well:) Prices aren't too bad, I got a large iced mocha for Starbucks sells for a "tall" aka small. I usually go to DD 30secs down the road, not thinking the Automat was a cafe. Definitely will be going here for coffee and drinks! They're back open for outside dining and take out and remain just as awesome as they were pre-Corona Virus. The outdoor dining is large and the cleaning procedures are thorough. Instead of paper menus, you look on their website you can look at a provided iPad for safety measures. Protocols may be different, but the food and service is still stellar. The omelettes are cooked to perfection and picture worthy as you can see below. The home fries are the best breakfast potatoes I have ever tasted. The owners sure know how to whip up awesome breakfast/lunch meals and make them look prettier than any other diner or cafe. The cold brew is very strong, but over ice with some cream it is tasty. The Edison Automat has good burgers / sandwiches. We got the portobello shroom burger, regular pork roll sandwich, and the American cheese wagyu beef hamburger. Shroom burger came with potatoe chips on the side, crunchy by itself. And a pickle, which I just gave to my friend. Mushrooms were caramelized with onions and it was a yummy sandwich to eat for brunch. It was not dry and went well if you added the chips in it Pork roll: good to eat, though their other pork roll sandwich had more added. This was like a default sandwich before the upgrade. It came with apple slices, which when you eat both together, gives it a good crunch. Wagyu burger: good juicy burger. It was huge, with fries on the side. I can't tell too much difference about the meat quality though, it tastes like any other good burger I'm eating. They gave a good amount of fries on the side though. The space itself reminds me of Tribeca in NYC but hey, I'm still in Jersey. The waiting and dining areas are the same size. This brunch spot is super popular so expect a long line. The waitresses kept telling us to take our time but we were courteous and just ate and paid the bill quickly so other people didn't have to wait. And how were those pancakes you ask? I've been here twice before Covid-19 hit and now for my third time as the Edison cafe is back in business. While service is outdoor dining and takeout only, they do not miss a beat. The food served is just as high quality as before and service remains pleasant and attentive. The tables and chairs are patio furniture, unlike some other places I've been to with flimsy picnic tables. If you're worried about dining out during the pandemic, safety protocols are strictly adhered to to help ease your mind - such as online menus only, six-feet separation of tables and sanitizing of tables and chairs after each service. Today I had the Smoky Tom Omelette and the food was as delicious as ever. The omelette was nice and fluffy and loaded with flavor. My favorite ingredient is the caramelized onions, which I think were done with balsamic vinegar. You also get a side of greens in a fruity dressing and choice of toast or home fries, which I would recommend if you like perfectly roasted potatoes. Washed it down with a smooth cafe latte and I was in heaven. Of course, I had to polish off my companion's Buttermilk Cloud Cakes - described perfectly, airy like a cloud. I was a little surprised that there were not as many patrons as I thought there were going to be, since it was packed the last two times I was here. It could've been people were elsewhere during the Fourth of July weekend or people are not aware the cafe has reopened. My experience at The Edison Automat was pretty good. I went there around 1 PM on Friday and had to wait about 30 minutes for a table inside, although there was outdoor seating too. The dining area was not too big but tables were still distanced pretty well so I felt safe. I ordered the Autumn Cloud Cakes, which were very fluffy pancakes topped with apples & pecans and maple syrup + whipped cream on the side. I thought the pancakes were really good but the apples I wasn't as much of a fan of. I think next time I will try the regular Cloud Cakes with some toppings maybe. The ambiance was nice inside and my server was very attentive and quick with things. I chose the quinoa breakfast bowl- AMAZING! The bowl comes with brown quinoa, a potato onion hash, broccoli, red bell peppers, black beans, 2 over medium eggs, avocado, and cheddar cheese. I substitutes the eggs for tofu and eliminated the avocado & cheddar cheese, which made the dish vegan easily! This bowl was JAM PACKED with flavor and was so filling! 10/10 for sure Beverages: I ordered a medium hot coffee with oat milk (they also have almond and soy milk as non-dairy options). The service: the staff were all friendly and so nice! The food came out so quick too (about 10 min after ordering). Atmosphere: causal but cute.. you could come here in sweats or a cute causal outfit. A lot of natural night coming in from the windows. Tips: the entrance is wheelchair accessible with a ramp. The wait was about 15 minutes when we came in at noon but they have pretty adequate room in their "waiting area". I love the decor there. It really nice and clean with a lot of attention to detail. We ordered: The Loaded Potato omelette (cheddar cheese, bacon, potato, sour cream, chives) with home fries The Cali breakfast sandwich (fried egg, turkey bacon, avocado, cheddar cheese, mixed organic greens, honey mustard dressing, on toasted brioche) & the Turkey Chili with side of tortilla chips Everything we ordered came out timely and was good, no complaints. The service people were nice. What I like/appreciate is that all their prices include taxes already. I wish we would have tried their beverages but since we were out running errands that morning we already had our share of tea and coffee. They do look like they had a good amount of options. We ordered the Sloppy Josephine with sweet potatoes fries, the RB melt with fries and a fruit cup for my 8 month old. I also got a large latte. So the sandwiches were filled with flavor!! I loved the fresh arugula on the Sloppy Josephine. It added amazing flavor and texture. The RB (toast beef) melt was tasty but lacked meat? There just needed to be a little more beef and it would have been perfect. Now the latte was a great size! I took a photo when I checked in. Great quality espresso they use. Now the place is smaller. Maybe 12-15 tables in total? And when we left there were roughly 10 people waiting to sit I assume due to the fact it was 12:30pm and prime lunch time. Very trendy app that's for sure!
