I love this place but the dress code is ridiculously tough sometimes. Sometimes I can get in with regular shoes, other times I have to wear black leather shoes and the whole works. I don't really complain since there is no cover and it's very very different from most bars lounges. THe music has almost always sucked but the ambiance and just how different it is makes up for it. Parking is available at any garage for like 5 bucks or if you're lucky you can park on the street. Go early before 10 pm otherwise you will be standing outside for an hour like a chump. Classy joint. Went here for my bf's friend's birthday on a Friday night. We got here early because the birthday boy got a table and we had to get there by 8pm. Way too early, if you ask me! If you want to get to the main area of the Edison, you have to walk down a flight of stairs. So ladies in your heels and short skirts, make sure you know how to walk down the stairs with grace and class! One false step and there's your hooha displayed for the world to see! We had to spend at least $50/person for the table. I spent $100 on Hendricks and calamari (mostly Hendricks) alone. My bf said I had like 6 or 7 glasses, which sounds about the usual price for drinks in downtown. There was some entertainment provided. Two aerialists. They were showstoppers when doing stunts together, but individually, I was bored. The dj was playing some old school stuff in the main area. I don't know if any of the other rooms had dj's spinning something different. I did like the old school music though. It's my fave! You can find parking on the street or in a lot down the street. Classy place, I like it. I heard it use to be a bank back then. The place is huge you pay $10 entrance fee for guys and girls and you walk down so many stairs. Beautiful place, cool night entertainment, but just not a fun place drinks, music, and ppl = meh came here on a friday night with a group of my girlfriends and honestly I was really excited to come here cz I had heard great things. there was no line to come in around 10:30om on a Friday and once we got there the bartender took waaaaaay to long to ask for our drinks and prep them. Needless to say, one of the drinks my friends got was way to spicy and potent. The bartender had to dilute one of them and make a whole nother new drink for my other friend. You have to walk down an alley to get to the edison, but it's not a scary alley where you fear for your life. There's a random door with security outside with nice red velvet ropes. The whole scene is downstairs, so ladies beware if you're wearing a skirt or dress because everyone will be able to see your hoo ha if you're not careful. It's an old speakeasy decor with a dark essence to it. They have a different event/theme every night and Thursdays they have burlesque dancers. There drinks are standard for L.A., but beware they are pretty pricey and it will cost you a pretty penny to get drunk here. The food is good, but again pricey. All little appetizers with sweet potato fries and lobster mac and cheese. Good ambiance, decor and crowd. It does get pretty crowded as the night goes on. read more

What can I say for this place other than that it's simply amazing? Stepping into The Edison was like jumping in a time machine and going back to the early 1900's. The old power plant decor compliments the vibe of this lounge to truly provide an experience to anyone that enters. Adding to the environment, The Edison has projectors playing silent movies on each of the walls as well as cabaret shows every Saturday night. With a cover of $10/head, it definitely was worth checking out. Some words of advice: - Pay extra attention to the dress code posted on The Edison website. The bouncers are very strict about proper attire (gentlemen, dress shoes only!) and will ask you to leave if you are not properly dressed. - Get there early. The line gets to be pretty long, so the sooner you get there the better! - Dress in period attire if you can! If you have clothes that fit the Roaring 20's wear it! VALENTINE'S DAY REVIEW ONLY: Awkward! My bf took me here for Valentine's Day. I saw him call to make reservations weeks in advance. They sent him some form to fill out with his credit card information... the reservation was going to include a bottle of champagne. When we arrived, I'm sure you can guess what happened, NO RESERVATION! I know how these things work as I have worked in the industry of taking reservations to upcharge an "experience" for the holidays and honestly these things are never hard to do so I don't know why stuff like this happens! Anyways, a really nice girl with an earpiece radio communicating with staff was trying to figure out what happened to our reservation. She kept profusely apologizing to this "mean" girl checking the list for reservations. The "mean" girl was very unpleasant and seemed annoyed, not for/at us, but for the fact that this incident was occurring on her "watch". Meanwhile, my boyfriend was trying to explain the whole ordeal and I impatiently grabbed his phone to show them the email confirmation they had sent us. Finally, they sat us at tiny table facing the stage next to the dance area. We were required to spend a minimum on food. No champagne included. This worked out better for us because it actually meant we would be spending less! The original reservation would have cost us like $180! With this new setup, all we had to do was spend $50 minimum each. That's like 2 meals, appetizer, and two drinks. The weird thing is we saw them "set up" the champagne next to us at a similar table and it was just an ice bucket. Nothing extra special about it. Kind of a rip off. Anyways, we watched an awesome band play from our seats. This was the best part, though would not be worth $180. We had to be careful what we ordered because the mini "side" table was no place to cut a steak or eat a burger. We mindfully picked items easy to eat. It was unpleasant to have people gather near us by the stage while we ate. People blocked our view at times, a butt in our face, a girl asking if she could place their purses under our "side table" while they danced in our way. This was my first time visiting Edison. The historic place is worth 5* for sure. The drinks were great and the food was "eh". Talk about refrigerator flatbread. Taking in account these things averages to 3*. Hello! My best friends and I had been planning for about 3 years to go to The Edison but the timing never felt right.. That is until one of my friends turned 30 and we knew we had a legit reason to get dressed up & finally go. That fateful night was on Saturday, 9/14. We had made reservations about a week in advance & was told that the $10 cover charge would not apply to us because we made a reservation with the understanding that we would pay $50 per person (food & drink minimum). On that awaited Saturday, I received a confirmation courtesy call from the restaurant & was reminded about the cover charged. I told her that I was told that the charge would be waived. She relayed that the information was incorrect but due to that miscommunication on their part, the cover charge would not apply to us. We parked at Joe's Parking structure and the restaurant was right across the way. We were greeted by the kind lady at the front and we had an awesome crew that served us. The place was stunning.. But my friends and I were confused & disappointed by several things: - The music playing throughout the restaurant was early 2000s alternative rock.. we were kind of expecting that it would have more of a speakeasy vibe & that 1920s music would be playing. At some point, music from the movie "Once" played and again.. we were confused. The playlist alone killed the vibe for us. - We read on the website that there was a strict dress code so we dressed up as fancy as we could.. only to find that some guests that were there or showed up after us were more on the casual side of things. - We also checked the menu on the website only to be given a completely different menu at the restaurant. When we asked the waitress about that, she said that the website menu is "really old". So that was a bummer since what we initially would have liked to order wasn't even on the hard copy restaurant menu. - The alcoholic drinks and our food was a disappointment, honestly. My friends and I agreed that we could have gone to a cheaper restaurant and had better food. - The tables are also really small... we placed some of our food on a prop chair that was next to our couch. - We definitely "over-ordered" because we thought we had to adhere to the $50 per person minimum... when we got our check, we were below that.. so that was more money wasted. In summary, The Edison is a beautiful beautiful restaurant with an all-star team of workers. The music, alcohol, and food were hyped up and just plain disappointing (unfortunately). read more

This place was so much fun! I went last night for my cousins bday and we had a blast! The environment was sultry, vintage and sexy! You do have to look for parking around the area, I parked a block down in one of the paid lots (it was about $7 because it was after 8pm and cash only!) and just walked in heels to the bar (cue hairflip! ) I got there around 8:45pm and walked straight in, there was a line as the night grew older though! There is a $10 cover charge and supposably there is a strict dress code but some of the people there I feel didnt get the memo...overall people where dressed to impress! Their burlesque show was AMAZING!! It is so tastefull and fun! They have multiple numbers throughout the venue too! So now to the drinks!...I had a Rum and Coke to start which was extremely strong, then their signature drink The Edison which didnt fall short on the alcohol content either!....it had Cognac for pete's sake...it was great though...probably not recomended for those who like fruity drinks. I love The Edison! I think it's pretty amazing that it used to be an old power plant. One of the cool things about the downtown LA area is the historical landmarks that are still there (converted now to loft apartments and clubs or bars). We don't have much history, but I try to cling on to whatever I can get. Trying to keep true to this historic feel, walking into the Edison is like stepping back in time. Think Great Gatsby. Flappers. Jazz. (And that they do play Jazz, no Top 40's here)...welcome to the Roaring 20's people. They also sometimes have burlesque dancers performing a show, which is nice to watch. In all, this is no typical L.A lounge. But...that being said though, the Edison is still located in L.A, so DO expect a cover charge, expensive drinks and some pretentiousness (men...make sure you follow dress code or you won't get in!). Tip: The entrance is in a dark alley. Watch out, it can be easy to miss! read more

If you want to go out with friends and not have to yell at each other to talk, then this is the place to go. The vibe, atmosphere, interior, mature crowd, is an A+ for me. On the weekends they charge $10 to get in, I would recommend you reserve a table for a minimum $50 order so you won't have to stand the whole night. Also, you have to be somewhat dressy, no beach casual allowed at all. To be in the era of the 1920's some ladies will put on their flapper dresses and some guys in their early era suits. The Edison would get a higher grade from me if it didn't charge a cover charge. I'm sorry but this is the 21st century and your drink prices alone should be enough for a cover. The entrance is a bit hidden. Parking is a big problem so I usually take an uber with the wife and her friends. The area isn't the best area so I would not recommend parking your car around the area. Again this is solely my opinion. When you walk in the place is very elegant. This great Gatsby in the 21st century. They have you check in when you walk in. There is a stair way, well 2 stairways that go down stairs but they're not normal stairways. The place is dark but decked out in a way that makes it look classy. There are dancers that come out and entertain like you were in the roaring 20's before the Great Depression kicked in. It's entertaining. I'm not a club guy so this isn't my scene but the wife seems to like it. Go figure. read more

One of the most incredible spaces I've seen with it's skeletal light-bulbs, Gatsby-esque looking decor, high ceilings, deep red curtains, and many large leather reading chairs. How they made it into a super-bar is just genius. Clever nooks and corners, divided by space markers create the illusion of private spaces, and intimate vibes in this LARGE bar. You can hang out in a group of 10, or two, and not feel out of place in this semi-casual, uber-stylish den. Classy, chic, yet not unapproachable as the "it" clubs in Hollywood. I had a great time at this bar. Completely themed after the mid-1900's, the staff and the guests totally got into the vibe. If my flapper girl costume hadn't been at the cleaners I totally would have dressed up too. The food was awesome, highly recommend the mac 'n cheese, sliders, and the deep fried banana and peanut butter dessert sandwich. They even have an absinthe fairy pushing around a cart serving shots of absinthe for the reasonable price of $7. An overall awesome experience, and we were there early enough that there was no line. I am going back and forth between "pricey" and "ultra high-end". Beers are $6, but their specialty drinks are $12+. between 4 people I think we spent around $500 that night. I bought the first round which consisted of 4 drinks and 4 shots for $80. You can definitely go there and knock down beers for relatively cheap. But I don't think the point of going to The Edison is to get a Hefeweizen. If you want the full experience, including food, you're gonna lay down some coin playa. read more

This place is a MUST! I've come here on several occasions both during the week and weekends and I've always had good experiences here. Pros: So many I'm trying to think where to begin: The decor is amazing and so authentic as this building use to be a power plant and was built in 1910. The designers stayed true to the original layout and elaborated on the interior design. I also like the fact that they are not playing the Top 40's and have great music along with the silent films projected on the walls. Parking is near by and really cheap and it is walking distance to the Metro Redline. Although pricey, the drinks are stiff and flavorful. We ordered The Edison platter which was like a sampler platter with calamari, wings, etc. and it was delicious. Our host was very attentive and although we didn't reserve a table he was able to accommodate us.
