Ordered Yum Na and Pad Kee Mao and ate at one of the tables outside. If you've never been, this is a cool little area with food trucks near the harbor. Table can be a little difficult to snag depending on time and day (Friday night was competitive). The food was made fresh and took about ten-fifteen minutes despite being the first in line this evening. That was a good sign! When it came out, the food did not disappoint. Tons of chicken and steak! They did not skimp out. The Yum Nua had a light and tart sauce that tasted amazing. This truck wasn't cheap and I believe they add automatic gratuity, but in my opinion totally worth it. I've had other food trucks in this location that are cheaper, but I'd say this is absolutely worth the price you pay, though it may be a bit more expensive. Give this awesome truck a try!! read more

This is the best bet for high quality food by the fisherman's warf. We ordered from several vendors today and the elephant shack had our food out the fastest. It was hot fresh and so good. Real Thai spice levels too! Medium was perfect for me! We ordered the Yum Nua (beef & jasmine rice) and Pad See Ew (wide noodles w/chicken & broccoli) on the digital screen, and got a brief check in from the people inside to make sure we knew how to order. Our food came out pretty quickly. The food smelled SO good--I was tempted to eat it there but we decided to take it home as planned. I was a little worried that it wouldn't taste as good after the food sitting in the car but I was totally wrong! I had also read reviews about the food being burnt which was not the case. Turns out, both dishes were really flavorful! They both had plenty of meat/protein inside, too, which I feel some places tend to provide less of. I personally would have liked a few more pieces of broccoli in my Pad See Ew but that is my unique preference. Both dishes totally hit the spot. I never had Yum Nua and now it's definitely one of my favorites. I can't wait to come back here to fulfill my Thai food cravings! read more

Really unique Thai food! We ordered Yum Nua and Pad Kee Mao with chicken. Honestly not sure which was better. I think what makes it is the dressing and sauces (no dug...it's Thai food I guess). Overall we were surprised with how heavy the protein portions were, since a lot of time places skimp out on those. I tried The Elephant Shack for the first time and it was absolutely AMAZING!!! Hands down the best Thai food that I have had on island, not exaggerating! The pad thai was divine & so was the goong nam prik pao. The Thai tea was refreshing and tasted like it had been freshly brewed from tea leaves (and not like instant powdered Thai tea). Last but not least, Kevin & the other gentleman there were both so kind and friendly. I already know I'll be visiting again soon because the food & service were both just THAT good. I ate here a few weeks back with a large group. We ordered a variety of dishes to share family style: pad Thai, larb, chicken wings, kapow, and yum nua. Every dish was extremely flavorful! I particularly enjoyed the yum nua because the steak was cooked to medium and had refreshing pops of citrus and lemongrass, which I found to be quite unique. I had never tried larb before and was also pleasantly surprised by the aromatic freshness in a meat dish. There honestly wasn't a dish I didn't like, but those two were the standouts. The ambiance was also pretty decent as this food truck is located right by the water where Fisherman's Wharf used to be. Tables were spaced out enough so that your not on top of anybody and potted plants block out some of the ugly parking lot. A cute spot. Only issue here though is NO RESTROOM! So make sure you go before coming. Also, I know it's been mentioned by others, but I have to echo this: a built in 10% tip is not cool. I deducted a whole star for this issue specifically. I understand the owner wanting to keep their staff happy, but a somewhat hidden fee at the expense of the customer is just not right. There is no "service" provided other being provided with the food we paid for. It's like leaving a tip for take-out. It should be entirely left to the customer whether they want to tip on take-out or not. read more

As a foodie enthusiast, I stumbled upon this market which has multiple food trucks and stands but this truck called to me. I was on vacation with my family from California for the week and I saw two cooks preparing each dish , one after another. I loved the vibes the whole market produced as a whole as well. While in line I decided to read some reviews and noticed that most "bad" reviews reflected on the wait time. To me , no big deal, as long as the quality is there. There was only 2 cooks so you couldn't blame them. Once my food was ready I took it back to my family to enjoy. They're honestly somewhat picky eaters but I told them just to try it. They absolutely loved it and basically devoured everything without me really getting the amount I anticipated. They made me go back to order more and thankfully I got there right before they closed ! I would not have heard the end of it if I didn't get more LOL. But honestly this was one of the best Thai food I have had. Food is great. One of my favorite restaurants/ food truck on island. However - My only complaint is the food is often burnt the way they cook it with the propane tank. I've love the Nam Yua or Steak previously at their restaurant at Pearl Ridge but nearly every time I've tried it at the food truck now it's burnt and tastes very bitter. They some time have issues with the chicken getting burnt with the Pad Thai too. The chefs should just try tasting it once and awhile and see how burnt the edges get (it's really bitter) from being placed on a surface that's way too hot. I only stick with the Ka Pow now and once in a while I'll eat the Pad Thai. Edit: The last time I ate here was on 5/17/2024. I can find all the previous dates too. Originally a food truck on the North Shore of Oahu, @theelephantshack has expanded to add another truck near Kaka'ako. If it wasn't for that, I would have totally missed some of the best Thai food on the island. Pros: *The taste is next level. It really brings me back to Thailand. My suggestion is the Yum Nua, which is 10 oz. of grilled marinated steak tossed in fresh chili-lime jus. The lime jus significantly adds crisp and refreshing flavors to the dish. Other favorites are the Pad Thai, Goong Nam Prik Poa (stir fried shrimp) *Staff was friendly, they even asked if I wanted to take pics and videos of them cooking in their truck. #notasponsor *Our order didn't take too long to cook Cons: *There aren't many shaded tables, so it can get really hot if you are eating there. *The ordering system was a bit confusing but we managed somehow. Went to visit the taco truck at the outdoor front at the fisherman's wharf and while waiting for my food, I decided to check this truck out. Approached the truck and there's a screen with a credit card terminal available. No customer to worker interaction when ordering. Basically gotta figure it out and you would need to pay with card. Ordered the Thai tea. When I was putting my card in my wallet the worker looks at the screen on his end and said "thats it? No food?" Didn't care about his comment. When my order was ready (5 minute) another worker walked out with my cup. Puts it on the counter near the credit card terminal and yells "Thai tea" and walks away. Sheesh This Thai tea was like no other. It wasn't good. It tasted like it was made with coconut milk rather than evaporated/condensed mix. It was very over powering. I believe it also contained vanilla flavoring. Would I ever order this again? Nah! Id rather support another Thai truck that will be happy to get a customer. read more

Food is bomb but I do agree with most of the bad reviews on here about the autograt. It seems sneaky, as many times as the owner comments it's not, IT IS. It obviously is if you have so many reviews about it. It autograts and then asks for additional tip without mentioning or reminding of the autograt. I wish they would just raise their prices 10% and get rid of that extra confusing step of the autograt (but leave the option for optional tip of course) . Not sure why they don't? It's clear they would have a higher rating and happier customers if they did. I'm tired of the best Thai food on the island getting slammed because of this! Also on a side note I do peak in to make sure the owner is working. A couple times he wasn't there the food wasn't as good. The whole noodle dish had 1-2 basil leaves when he normally is generous with it and my fish wasn't crispy and was a bit rubbery/soggy. Now if I don't see him we don't risk it and just go somewhere else. Update to owner response: thank you for replying! I totally understand the need to take care of staff, and agree they deserve a tip. One of my favorite Thai places known Oahu. Husband and I always order a panaang curry ($16 with jasmine rice) with chicken with pad see ew ($17) with chicken. Loveeee the pad see ew as the noodles are always cooked fresh and perfectly. In addition , the sauce is added in the right amount. Only negative with this dish is that I wish it had broccolini vs broccoli. Otherwise a delicious spot for lunch or dinner! Dine there or take out!! We are staying on north shore all week. Drove all the way down (over an hour) to get us some grinds! We were super sad to see the location in Laie was closed. They do have a location at Sunset, but no fryer. My favorite is the Yum Pla. Chili lime sauce is soooo good. The fried fish paired with the rice and sauce is the best Thai dish I've ever had. My wife's favorite is the Pad Thai. Super good flavor. Really fresh. Good portion. The real reason we drove down though is for the chicken wings! Yes, Thai chicken wings. The sauce is the perfect blend of spice, sweet, and tang. Really crispy on the outside, super moist on the inside. 10/10 recommend. Love this place! I'll start off with the pros. The area im is cute and my daughter loves the açaí bowl place nearby. The service isn't bad and the food comes out fast. The reasons why I would never recommend this place are that the taste isn't very good. We had noodles and you could tell the sauce got burnt and imparted a burnt flavor on the entire dish. Y'all know what I mean if you burn the bottom of your food and make the mistake of stirring it. But I wouldn't suggest it because they auto gratuity every single order without informing you. I add gratuity most everywhere I go but I couldn't reconcile the amount I paid with the cost of the food plus the tip I added. I asked for a receipt and they said they couldn't provide one. Finally I asked why my total was so high and they finally revealed they add an auto gratuity on there without telling you. And the last screen flashes in a second so you can't really see it. I do not appreciate the principle of it and would recommend anyone who tips based on desire to tip at a take out place skip this spot with mediocre-at-best food. read more

I went here the other day after work. They are tucked away in a parking lot right across from Hana Koa brewing company. It's tough to spot the truck unless you are driving on Kawaihao coming from Ewa side towards Alamoana. They have comfort Thai food here. I am a big supporter to locally owned establishments, but this place left a bad taste in my mouth. The food's aight but the people running this truck needs to get their sh1t straight. 1. The female cook. Fix your face and attitude. We tryna ask questions and you seem to feel as if we're a burden to you. 2. Overpriced. We got 2 plates and it was close to $50. WTH? This ain't no Mariposa dining. this is a food truck.. not a restaurant..a food TRUCK. You don't take my order, the sh1tty dirty touch screen ordering device that is confusing at first takes my order and you cook it. 3. Why don't you provide a receipt? Or have that ordering device text it or email it to me. I'd like to see a breakdown of what I paid for. Where's the transparency? 4. You automatically charge 10% and on the next window have the audacity to ask for TIP?.. for what? You don't even tell me to have a seat or serve us water. Or even say Hi, when you're ready please use the screen to order! Don't bother coming here, you might seem to be an inconvenience to the workers. My comments are not related to disrespecting the staff in any manner. I never mentioned your staff, which is probably why you edited your comment. I am sure that your staff works very hard and they work long hours. They are probably excellent workers, which is why you hired them. So how are they different from the other hard working people who work along side of you in the other food trucks and stands? My grip was about an extra charge. Some people do overlook it while other people don't mind it. Some people give extra on top of that. But your system is hoping that people won't bother to check the small details of their order so you can sneak in a few extra dollars or cents. True, it does go to your staff, but if you value them so much, why don't you pay them for their hard work and expertise? You get by this by expecting the customers to pay extra generosity, without most of them knowing. When they do realize it, and they say something about it, you belittle the people that support your business. Now, mind you, when I ate at your establishment more than once, I honestly didn't think your food was bad. That's why I returned. After I realized that I was being charged a mandatory tip for every take out order, regardless of how big or small, then I brought it up. We don't have to agree on this matter, and it is your business, but you can't come off telling people they are complaining over money. It is their hard earned money, and they happily spend it at your food truck. An extra charge is a different story because people don't expect to have an automatic tip, especially for takeout.
