I've been to so many and each and every one is very unique where you can find either fashion runway stage, live street art, or even a dance night in the barn. I just love the vibe SALT and surrounding Our Kaka'ako brings with the vibrant art we're so blessed to have and this particular night (November 19th) there was actually much more shopping just perfect for the holidays and the party went further down to Ya-ya's. Tonight I was fortunate to have gone after work so I kept it short but found some awesome treats. Some straw toppers to add to my holiday gift giving and some cheesecake cups (OG, Strawberry and Cookie Butter) of course I got one of each to share...ate the Strawberry which of course omg was yummy!! Not too sweet as the Strawberries was just perfect as I tried to get an even scoop of it all in every bite. Walked further down and honestly wasn't in the mood to wait too long for anything found something that would just exactly work for me. Ya-Ya's Chophouse & Seafood and tonight they had two items - Steak Kebabs - Fat Fried Rice with TAB (aka Thick Ass Bacon lol!) I seriously wanted the fried rice but thought that the Steak Kebabs was more sensible for me personally and it came with two kebabs each fully loaded with steak, mushrooms, peppers and onions with a huge scoop of rice! So many options I really was considering including Henna from Henna Happens, Birria Tacos from Dolce Vita, Corn from Corn Onoz Hawaii but though there's always a next time yes!?! I remember pre-pandemic Yelp had a booth here and hoping as things return to normalcy that we'll see it back again one day (hint hint!) The corn bread tasted good but was dry. I warmed it and added some butter and that didn't trick. The only thing I personally wasn't a fan of was the greens. They weren't necessarily bad but like Keith Lee says I don't know if I'm their target audience. They tasted a bit sweet and there was something else in the seasoning that I wasn't a huge fan of but couldn't quite put my finger on. I almost forgot the plate came with "yellow seasoned rice" which is under the fish on the Mac side. Honestly it's a free inclusion so not super fair to judge it. Everything in the picture was about $47 bucks. In my opinion that's a bit high and I'm guessing that's because it's in Waikīkī. I definitely plan to go back especially to try the Happy Hour, and I'd like to dine in to see how that goes.

I believe that they worker said, "I appreciate you!" Wow! That's very nice of him! We took the plate home (it was too windy to sit alongside the busy sidewalk) and discussed the tasty ribs, sweet (molasses?) Baked beans and yummy green beans with smoked turkey. Mmm! I have been to Hawaii a dozen times and was never a fan of Poi because I never tasted a dish that was prepared properly. We went to a picnic the previous day that had a donut like pasty made with Poi and fresh Poi made at a local restaurant. They were both delicious and this totally changed my opinion. Based on that positive experience I wanted to try the signature Poi dog. We opted for the spicy version. It was so tasty with the matching condiments. If you are a foodie that wants to try something unique, be sure to give it a try. We stopped by Elephant Shack and ordered the Pad Thai with chicken and the Kapow, both were delicious! The flavors were spot on and everything was cooked perfectly. The portions felt a bit smaller than we remember, but the taste definitely made up for it. We originally wanted to order the Yum Nua, but noticed the price had gone up to $26 (it used to be around $21). Still, the food was fresh, flavorful, and satisfying as always. The workers were both very friendly, and the overall ambiance was cute and welcoming. Even with the price changes, it's still one of our favorite casual Thai spots to visit when we're in the area. read more

One of the girls on the sunset cruise we took from Kewalo Harbor told us we should have dinner at this food truck when we got back to shore, and we owe her one! Its right next to where the boats pull into the harbor, there are a few other trucks there as well, a taco truck, a Brazilian truck a Barbecue trailer, I think some other ones too. Beer and Pork Belly for pupus and pipikaua ribs for dinner. They have daily specials (beef stew, beef tomato, chicken hekka, sweet sour spare ribs, beef stew, grilled fish, shoyu chicken, garlic shrimp) which sounds good too. Within moments of ordering, the younger woman brought us our delightfully sweetened iced coffees, a generous plate of fresh herb and vegetable garnishes (đĩa rau sống) for my noodle soup, and eating utensils. While waiting, we glanced around the crowded restaurant and noted the generous food portion sizes at others' tables. Our hunger was also enticed by the colorful menu food photos adorning the restaurant interior. FOOD: - Crab Noodle Soup (Bún Riêu): the bún riêu was served in a huge and deep bowl. Its "signature" clear, savory crab-and-fermented-shrimp-paste base and rock-sugar-sweet, tomato-reddish broth were served piping hot over rice vermicelli noodles and topped with crab cakes, shrimp, pork hock, Vietnamese ham, pork blood cakes, tofu, wedges of fresh tomatoes, and herbs. I thought the broth could've been a bit more crab-tasting and less sweet but still, this bún riêu was tasty. Each time I dug out some noodles, the portion didn't seem to lessen as if there was an endless amount of noodles. Also, the fresh herbs and vegetable garnishes were cleanly-washed, crisp, and added texture and more flavors. $18 - Crispy Fried Saimin with Seafood (Mì xào giòn/ phở áp chảo hải vị): the plate of crispy fried noodles was topped with assorted seafood (mainly shrimp, calamari, and fishcake) and vegetables (cabbage, Chinese broccoli, carrots, mushrooms, and cilantro). The bed of fried noodles topped with the seafood mixture sat atop a pool of light-colored gravy. My husband was pleased that the crispy noodles weren't drowned by the gravy and kept their crispy texture almost until he finished his plate. He did find the broccoli somewhat stringy or woodsy tough. $20 Still, the service was friendly and the restaurant's cleanliness and location in Chinatown is convenient. The food portions were generous to be considered a good value, but we thought the flavors were too sweet for our tastebuds. I'd return and try their Huế Spicy Beef Noodle Soup (bún bò Huế) and or Vietnamese Crêpe (bánh xèo).

I like spicy food, so I added some black bean sauce and it definitely kicked it up a notch. The Vietnamese coffee was refreshing and balanced, not too sweet. Huge menu too, so there are a lot of things I'd like to try on the next trip. Good service. Good ambiance.
