I have been here 4 times, the food, drinks, and service are usually great hence why I keep coming back. It's a little hidden spot in downtown, with a super cute inside, music playing - not too loud so you can enjoy conversation with friends. Unfortunately this last time that I came was not as great, I came on a Tuesday 04/01/25 to take advantage of their Taco Tuesday special, 2 for 1 street tacos. Me and my friend ordered the chicken flauta appetizers (my favorite), two street tacos each (3 al pastor and 1 steak), two side orders of guacamole, and two non alcoholic drinks. There was a waitress that took our order first and then a male that would check in on us every now and then. We got the flautas first and then we were waiting to ask for plates and for the guacamole to enjoy with the flautas. When the male came to check on his we let him know what we were waiting for and he said "oh the guacamole?" And left and came back with the guacamole and chips. We told him that we didn't get the order with the chips, just two sides, so he said "hold on" and went to talk to the waitress, came back and took away the guacamole and chips and came back with two tiny dipping cups with guacamole. Like I said, I've been here multiples times and I've never had such a small side of guacamole. In the past it will usually come in a molcajete type dish with a decent amount more that what we got. I let it slide and figured maybe he thought we just wanted a little bit and that he wasn't going to charge us for the normal sides. Then, once we were eating the flautas, we noticed that one of the 3 was missing chicken in half the flauta, it was just an empty shell. After waiting a while longer for our tacos, (at this point we are probably 45 minutes past ordering) the male came over again and asked how everything was and I told him that we were just awaiting for our tacos. He says "tacos?" Again like he didn't know we even ordered tacos, just like that guacamole. He talks with the waitress again and comes out immediately with our 4 tacos - 2 al pastor and 2 steak, which is not what we ordered. At this point I just wanted to finish and leave so I decided not to say anything and eat the tacos, the steak also ended up being really good, even better than the al pastor so it worked out. I decided to go up to pay so I didn't have to wait for them - keep in mind that is was not super busy, there was one large party at a table and then another small party besides us - I went to pay and noticed I was charged $2 each for the tiny dipping cups of guacamole which is the same amount I have paid before for the much larger sides. I'm not sure if maybe the waitress was just new and didn't put in our order correctly, but it was hopefully just a one off from the times I've been before. Hopefully it will stay more consistent because I will still be returning and the food still is really good. I don'e like being confrontational which is why I did not say anything at the time, but hopefully with the review it will provide some constructive criticism. I came here on a Friday evening before going to see a show at the Hammer. They have good happy hour specials, though it isn't immediately clear what they are. I included a photo to refer to for anyone else wondering. I do wish the happy hour had cocktail and wine specials, but it is just food and beer. I got the shrimp ceviche and it was a large serving for the happy hour price and it was SO good and refreshing on the hot day. The service is great and the environment is fun, but they don't have AC, which is the reason for my 3 stars. Not sure how they manage to work in there! I was sweating and not doing anything. The couple sitting next to me at the bar was going to get another round of drinks, but ended up leaving because they were too hot. Hopefully that is in the works!! On Fridays they also have a late night happy hour, so I decided to come back after the show! Enjoyed a cold beer and there was live music. A mix between a DJ and one man band. Not the best I've heard, but still enjoyable and mostly adorable! The party next to me at the bar was celebrating a birthday and this place does it well! They light special sparklers and sing happy birthday, all with birthday shots that I was lucky to be handed too!! I will definitely be back here and I can tell they are really trying to bring customers in, so I would highly suggest you swing by for a good happy hour and then some. read more

We made reservations at The FAB for a group of about 12 people through Yelp Reservations and they provided great service to everyone in our group! It just so happened to be Taco Tuesday the day we were visiting. The FAB is located right by Philz Coffee and Gong Cha near San Jose, on Paseo de San Antonio. The restaurant seems to be newer to the SJ area compared to neighboring businesses - inside, it's really cute with a lot of photo opportunities around the restaurant. It definitely seems like a great place to go to for some nice and casual eats. They were able to bring out everyone's food around the same time which was impressive considering how large our group was. For Taco Tuesday, the tacos were BOGO Free! I tried the Al Pastor tacos which weren't the most amazing I've had but were still very good. I was eyeing down a couple of other dishes that I definitely wish I had ordered instead, like their Shrimp Tacos. They have a nice and welcoming environment, overall they have good food and are great for large parties! read more

I think the only major downside for me and the reason for 4/5 stars is the price. Like wow! It was really expensive to eat here. I think the portions are good for the price but the quality and taste was not worth it for me. I love street tacos from my local vendors on the sidewalk but I was thinking "let's try street tacos at an actual restaurant" I will definitely stick to my vendors. We came here before going to see a play San Jose playhouse. I searched for places on Yelp, and the FAB stood out as looking like it was fun and had good food. We made a great choice! We were seated right away, and the service was wonderful! Our server, Tatiana, was wonderful. She was friendly and helpful; attentive without being intrusive. The food was terrific as well. I had the jicama tacos, which sounded intriguing and tasted great! One of my friends had the FAB salad, and we shared ours. Both of them were great. Service was very attentive, we always had a carafe of water. I will definitely go back again, we don't live in San Jose proper, but this place is definitely worth a trip! When I found this place on Yelp, I was super excited to check it out. The inside is a really cute brunch meets sports bar vibe. I'd come here to catch a game, for happy hour, or a brunch. They have daily deals and reasonably priced happy hour and all you can drink, although we didn't use any of the daily deals for the day we went. It's not a super large restaurant though, so it's possible they might have a wait at times. We went for dinner on a weekday, and it was about half full. The food was alright. We got tacos which were pretty typical, although some of my meat was a bit burnt and quite chewy and some of my veggies were burnt. The sopes were pretty good and I would definitely order that again. However, the main reason why I'm not giving my experience more stars was because of the wait. The restaurant felt like it was understaffed, and the waiters were primarily paying attention to the larger groups around us. We expected this to be a quick bites kind of place, but ended up being there for 1.5 hours, longer than most of the other groups there, because it took a while to get menus, our food, and then to catch our waitresses attention for the bill and boxes. I'd love to come here again and try it out when they aren't so understaffed because the concept seems great and the menu seemed creative and interesting. read more

As my girlfriend and I leave this restaurant I am leaving this review. First the food... We stopped in for brunch after seeing a YouTube of the breakfast burrito. I was really excited as in the video it looked great. I got the deluxe breakfast burrito and my partner got the birria tacos. The burrito was super small compared the pictures and the video I saw. I was really disappointed when I saw it but it tasted okay. The birria tacos were also super mid. The tortillas ripped and fell apart with the slightest touch. Food wasn't worth the price point that's for sure and that's even compensating for the rising prices and inflation we are experiencing. Next, the service... I wouldn't be leaving a negative review if we weren't treated so poorly here. My lady and I are really easy going and not over critical but man was the service appalling. We've both worked in the service industry for 10+ years. After sitting it took 10 minutes to get menus. After ordering 25 minutes to get the food but I get it... they were in a lunch rush so no biggie. What really got me was how unfriendly our server was. Our food came out we had no silverware or napkins. No one came to see how our food was or ask how things were at the end. I had to get up and ask for everything even the check. Any time I've come to the Fab, I've always had a great time. The food is delicious and if anything every needs to be modified or fixed, they are on top of it without hesitation. The vibe is amazing - a mix of comfort and part which flows really well. Mike and Renata were amazing staff members, they've both held down the fort beautifully multiple times. The French fries are fried in oil that's used for something else (you can taste it). The nacho fries are soggy fries with canned cheese. The chicken salad, the chicken was rubbery. The fab burrito was cold and heavy. The kids chicken nuggets are from Costco that smelled wrong. The Jamaica drink tasted like cranberry juice. The moment we walked in to this restaurant, there were inappropriate rap videos being played on a large screen tv and I came in with my family and had to ask my daughter to look away. There was also a few guys, one that was very drunk, and made the restaurant feel unsafe. We chose to sit outside rather than inside because of how uncomfortable we felt. We didn't understand how the service worked, and no one came up to us until I went into the restaurant asking how ordering worked. Eventually the drunk customer that was inside started doing karaoke inside the restaurant, it wasn't a karaoke bar. Overall the service was very bad, the food was not cooked well at all, and it didn't taste good either. They don't change their oils out making the fried food taste very bad. The 5 stars are for the shrimp taco. A restaurant will sometimes have a menu item that is so good that it becomes known for it. For example, in downtown San Jose, it is like heaven for tacos, because you can walk around to the restaurants on a Saturday night and just sample great tacos all evening: La Victoria has their orange sauce. Tostadas has their birria taco. Paper Plane has their brussel sprouts taco. Olla's has their fish taco. Super Taqueria has their beef cheeks taco. My pick to add to this list is the FAB's shrimp taco: The FAB shrimp taco had 4 layers of flavor which mixed well together: The sauce and avocado on top provided richness without having to kill one's taste buds with heat. Underneath that were the cabbage and onions which had an unusual twist in that the cabbage was sliced thinly enough to have a few strands of it stir-fry - and when you stir-fry and singe cabbage in the right way, the flavor will sweeten and hit the ceiling. This partially singed cabbage is reminiscent of Hawaiian BBQ, where the super-heated short ribs contact the bedding of cabbage and actually partially fry it. But this technique something that is uncommon in Mexican restaurants downtown. Underneath the cabbage mix were the shrimp, which was prepared with an explosively different flavor from the other 3 parts of the taco. And finally, a surprising home-styled caramelized mix was spread at the bottom, penetrating into the tortillas underneath. I visited again a month later for another order of shrimp tacos, it was different; this time not as explosive, but much more satisfying. The pink sauce was more rich and spicy. The caramelized mix was replaced by melted cheese. And the tortilla had a one-of-a-kind quality to it - like a hint of maybe naan and meat pie. One minor issue has been with the space itself: at certain times of the day there is a glare that can make the eyes uncomfortable (see pictures.) Other older restaurants nearby have addressed the issue by: rotating some of the chairs and tables by 45 to 90 degrees like Scott's Seafood, or by brightening the lights in the mornings to offset window glare like Philz Coffee, or by installing screens which pull up and down to regulate the light coming through the window like Spoonfish Sushi and Scott's Seafood. But food is the most important thing, and those shrimp tacos are Hella Good! read more

They have a huge menu of many different cuisines. No restaurant can prepare so many different types of food well -- especially a small place with one dude in the kitchen. Last evening my friends chose this due to its location. Given my past experiences, I ordered a meal which I thought would be hard to screw up -- their "Fab Chicken Burrito". Even though there was only one other table with food, they obviously forgot my order. After asking about my food, they delivered a room-temperature burrito consisting of excessive mounds of cold refried bean mash straight from a can and a few tiny bits of room-temperature cubed chicken. Despite having paid for the deluxe burrito, it had nothing else on it. My friends' food looked low quality but not as bad as mine. Today was my third time at The FAB and the food was delicious per usual! We came here on a Friday during happy hour; we ordered our drinks, starters and food 10 mins after seating ourselves. Drinks and starters came out 5 mins later, then the main entrees were delivered maybe 10-12 mins after that. Their setup is great for pictures and they have friendly employees. Came here to celebrate a colleague's birthday and hyped up how the drinks here are strong for a decent price. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case today. But that's what happens when you hype something up. Prior to today, my rating would've been 5/5. Today was a slight disappointment. 1. We came to celebrate a birthday during happy hour and the liquor/alcoholic beverages were not as strong as they were my last 2 visits. 2. It was 93 degrees today and there was zero airflow in the restaurant. 3. I told the waiter they charged me for 2 additional tequila shots (ordered 9 total, charged for 11) and she showed me where it was removed on her handheld before I handed her my card to process payment. I did order a total of 11 shots, but only 9 were tequila. The other 2 were vodka, which was a separate line item charge. Of course I get home and look at the receipt that was printed for the register, that the extra Tequila shots were STILL listed on receipt. Blame myself though, should've double checked the receipt before leaving the restaurant. Live and learn... I will say the waiter seemed distracted because he messed up on another customer's tab and that impatient customer kept chiming in to remind the waiter while he was also trying to close out my tab. read more

Don't - I saw a video of someone eating ramen and birria together. Needless to say, I had to taste this. I love when two cultures blend together and create a new world of flavors. This combination created pure disappointment. The ramen itself wasn't anything special and the birria was very Americanized. My fiancé kept burping up the ramen the remainder of the night. Meanwhile, I had a birria burger. Even with the consume (which I won't get into), the burger was nothing exciting.
