    Shrimp Quesadilla

Came here after brunch with a few friends for some drinks. Definitely my kind of atmosphere! Super chill, hookah is available, and the drinks were pretty solid! The food was also pretty tasty! My only complaint was the heat. It is pretty much all outdoors, so their huge fans were just blowing the hot air around. Just be conscious of the weather if you ever stop by!

Chill spot! I came on a Sunday with friends after brunch for some drinks and hookah. The hookah was very nice. We ended up ordering Shrimp Quesadillas and Mango BBQ wings. The quesadillas were awesome! The blackened shrimp in them was cooked perfectly. My friends enjoyed the wings.

Food was good. Waitress was not good with English. Long wait for food. Ordered appetizer of wings and it came with food. Nobody was there so I do not understand why appetizer came with food . Menu says gratuity after $130 but it actually after $100 and waitress didn't ask me how I wanted my steak which made me mad.

The homies and I came here thinking it would be more of a club atmosphere but I saw tables instead. The vibe was more dance in your seat and look cute vs sweating out your makeup. It depends on what you like. Once I decided we were going to be dancing at our tables, I decided to order food since why not? (food is a good time) I ordered the lobster mac n cheese and for the price point; it did not disappoint. Considering it was $14 dollars, it was a big portion with big portions of lobster. It was delish and i'll be back just for this dish.

My daughters and I loved everything about this place. From the entrance which had a wonderful array of natural light to the Caribbean music. Great for a date night or party. Now the food... You can make a meal just off the appetizers. Highly recommend the lobster Mac and cheese and the Thai calamari your mouth will thank you. The fried Snapper was seasoned well and the ribeye was tender. Please consider giving this place a try. I was able to find street parking so that was a plus as well.

I went here for a late night cap. The place is extremely loud so I wouldn't come here to have a conversation. The drinks were ok and they do have hookah which is a plus. A nice spot for a quick drink and great music!

Love this place, the staff and others are fantastic people. We visited for the first time and everyone was so freaking nice, it made it all the better. Food is good and very well priced, portions are very large. We got to see the rest of the space and were in shock at the size, can't wait to be back for brunch, they said there's live music and well.

Mini steak mofongo with smoked pork chops

My Boyfriend took me here for date night and we absolutely loved the place. Food was delicious from the picadera to the mini mofongo. Drinks were strong and tasty and their hookah was pretty good. Service was great, very attentive and fast. Definitely coming back here....

PROS 1. Baked Leg Quarter Chicken is Huge and Flavorful. 2. White Rice is Cooked Well. 3. Red Beans are Cooked Well. 4. Pepper Steak Stew is Good. 5. Sancocho is the BEST in NJ so far. 6. Picada (Chopped Fried Chicken, Steak, Chorizo, Ham, Cheese, Salami, Yucca and Tostones) is Delicious. I LOVE the Chicken, Steak and Yucca..... 7. Flavorful Chicken Stew 8. Pina Coladas are the Best in Jersey City and Strong. 9. I love their Mamajuana with Passion Fruit Juice. 10. Delicious Fried Yuca Fries. 11. Perfectly Cooked and Seasoned Churrasco Skirt Steak. 12. Pork Rib Stew is Tender and Flavorful. 13. Spicy Lobster Mac n Cheese was SUPER Flavorful and Nice Slap of Hotness! So Creamy, Well Made and Not Runny. 14. Oxtail Stew was Super Tender and Flavorful. 15. Huge Outdoor Seating. 16. Tropical Vibe Music from Hip Hop, Reggae, Soca, Merengue to Salsa! 17. Huge Chicken Wings. 18. Eggplant Stew is Cooked Well and Flavorful. (Flavors remind me of Pasteles Masa) it's Healthy and Delicious! 19. Friendly Staff. 20. Bartender/Server Wilme and Jean are Awesomely Professional Everytime! CONS 1. Fried Red Snapper needs more Flavor. 2. Chicken Mac n Cheese was too Saucy, it needed more Dense Texture. Perhaps, more Cheese or an Egg to bring it together. 3. Chicken Wings had No Flavor inside, it needs to be Marinated Overnight in Non Salted Wet Seasoning.

Out exploring and this place popped up and we decided to give a try! We entered and waited a minute, and were seated. A few minutes later Angel came to give us a menu.15 minutes later Laura came to us to take our food and drink order and Angel came to bring us water after. A few minutes later our drinks came out. We ordered the Casamigos palomas and the factory tea. They both are smooth drinks with a little tang. For appetizers we ordered the bbq wings and calamari. The calamari was warm and chewy but they do serve a big portion. The wings were fresh, crisp and tasty! Laura asked how the food was and offered to change our calamari or switch it to anything. She won me over ! Great job Laura for customer service! The Picadera was delicious! Oh I cannot forget if you are a hookah lover.....the hookah is great with awesome customer service! We ordered a margarita, strawberry daiquiri, and Henny colada after...if you are a light weight these drinks are for you! The music is great and of variety!

We jumped over to the bar right beside and drank some girly drinks before getting the notification our table was ready. As with nearly every establishment in NYC, it is very close quarters in paradise lost. We stood at a table while waiting for seats at the bar to become available. Which, we didn't mind. I could see how this might be a little harder to get a seat for a bigger group if you aren't there before 6. It seemed that once a group got a big table, they camped out. The drinks were strong and creative. Friendly bartenders, good music, and yummy options for bar snacks. Also, the bathroom is a nice touch. Given the hell theming for the bar, the bathroom is a 180 and while using the Lou, you can listen to the bible being recited. Theres also a spooky surprise if you press the button in the bathroom. Speaking of the bathroom, it is at the bottom of some decently narrow stairs. So, try and stay sober enough for stairs or you may fall. Go to this bar. You will have fun.

We wanted to have after-dinner cocktails in a chill space, so we searched on our phones & saw Paradise Lost address via Google. We proceeded to walk down & was unable to find the establishment due to their being no front sign. After walking back & forth a few times, we saw another group walking towards the door & they confirmed the place. We walked inside the front door pressed a "doorbell" & lo & behold we gained entry after the previous group went inside. Definitely an incognito entrance. Once inside that door there is someone to greet you, & take your information. There is a forest/ grass/ jungle-looking foyer/ hallway we walked down to get to the next door. Before we knew it, we were near the "Paradise Lost No Vacancy" neon sign w/ an arrow pointing towards the snake-shaped knob door. It gets opened & a supercool speakeasy awaits.... Paradise Lost has mixed style table / seating arrangements throughout the place. A bar seating section, booth-style seating area, lounge- style seating area, etc. We got there a little after 7pm, so the afterwork crowd was in full swing. Paradise Lost has interesting atmosphere. At times a Gothic / Medieval Vibe, meets place w/ shipwreck decor, meets eleganct /club vibe w/ beautiful ceiling lighting, etc. Music played in the background. Staff are friendly, energetic, & attentive. We were pleasantly overwhelmed w/ the vast selection of tiki cocktails that were on the menu. Paradise Lost also have an intimate selection of snacks/ food menu items. This included Popcorn, Tater Tots, Devilled Eggs Rangoon Dip, etc. We ordered some cocktails served in unique tiki mugs & a bucket of popcorn to munch on w/ our drinks. The popcorn is flavored w/ Sea Buckthorn & Browm Butter, which gave it an special flavor profile. Our cocktails were well-prepared & nice & strong. Paradise Lost has individual unisex bathroom stalls & a communal vanity & sink area. The bathroom stalls have spooky voices coming from a speaker as you use the bathroom. I was so humorously taken aback, it had me laughing when I came out...Definitely a different thing to experience in the bathroom - lol. Before we left we watched one of the bartenders do a cocktail "fire" presentation for some patrons in a booth seated area. Wow.... Paradise Lost accepts walk-ins only, no reservations. Paradise Lost accepts groups of 8 or less, unless you are requesting to book the space for a private event. Ages 21+ paradiselost.nyc @paradiselostnyc Paradise Lost is open everyday - 5pm-2am.

We ordered a few things. Spicy Tuna Tartare: wasn't spicy, didn't taste fresh which wasn't a deterrent to me as this isn't a seafood restaurant or fine dining. Next time I'd pass on that. Bavarian Pretzel: amazing. Very tasty. Came out nice and hot. That rarebit cheese sauce? Oh honey that can come home with me anytime. Absolutely delicious. And this is coming from someone who hates that fake cheese, cheese whiz type taste. Margherita Pizza: didn't come out hot which is probably why I wasn't a fan of it. It was pretty mediocre for such a basic pizza. And the food didn't come out all together, so not sure why that didn't come out hot. Wings and waffles: Tasty buffalo wings. The waffles actually taste like funnel cake which was a nice surprise. THEN. The burger came out and that is why this review dropped. It had a small hair on the side of the plate and a closer look at the rest of the plate, you'll see a long hair on the pickle. That was disappointing but happy to have tried the place nonetheless.

For those who aren't history junkies, FDR ran on a platform calling for the repeal of the 18th amendment, Prohibition. During the Prohibition Era, speakeasies (hidden drinking establishments) popped up left and right due to the nationwide ban on alcohol sales, consumption, production, importation, and transportation. After his presidential victory, the 21st Amendment, ratified on December 5, 1933, officially repealed Prohibition. The restaurant's name is a celebration of FDR's repeal and how it impacted the American hospitality industry and economy as a whole. The interior is meant to transport customers back to the roaring twenties. Think flappers, The Great Gatsby, dim lighting, black/gold/burgundy colors, plush chairs, geometric wall patterns, vintage chandeliers, mosaic tiled floors, etc. There's four "sections" of the restaurant to dine in, each with a different vibe. *Lucy's Parlor - A hidden speakeasy named after FDR's mistress. This is my favorite space. They really went creative with the wall decor! There's black and white photos of Prohibition protests, as well as excerpts from love letters exchanged between FDR and Lucy. There's a small bar and a good amount of seating. Sophisticated, sexy vibe. *The Hide Out - A private and intimate dining space for a group of 4-6 people. You get special attention from the Executive Chef. They offer two seatings per night by reservation. *The Saloon - One of the main dining areas, complete with a large bar, high top tables, a fireplace, a vintage piano, and flat screen tvs. *The Dining Room - A formal dining area for private events and parties. It has a mahogany bar, skylights, and LED lighting. The drinks and food? Of COURSE they're on par with the theme. Most of the menu is elevated bar food, but they also have steak, pork chop, and seafood options. They have Happy Hour every day - all day on Wed & Sun and twice a day from Thursday-Saturday! DJs on the weekend. They even have a Sunday brunch! I've only had drinks, so can't speak on the food yet. I've tried... *Roosevelt Side Car (Courvoisier VSOP, Cointreau, syrup, and lemon juice with a sugared rim) $15 - Definitely a strong drink with a sour aftertaste! Not my favorite. *The Bee's Knees (Hendricks Gin, St-Germain, lemon juice, and honey topped with rose water) $15 - Refreshing, bright flavor and definitely on the sweeter side, but I loved it. Whether you want to sip on creative cocktails, book a private event, or enjoy a dinner meal, The Roosevelt is worth a visit.

Since we were big fans of those alcohols, we decided to check it out. The walls of the space were covered in colorful murals with Latin American imagery. There were banquettes along either wall with small tables and ottomans scattered in front of them, providing separate, little areas for each group. Large playing cards were fanned across each table with Jack, Queen, King, and Ace cards each having a menu on its backside. There were bar bites, a spirits list, classic cocktails that could be reimaged with your agave spirit of choice (picture a tequila mojito), and even a custom beverages. The creative drinks were not cheap, coming in at around $20 on average, but they certainly were complex! My La Balacara featured Casamigos Mezcal, spiced pear, Luxardo, orange, ginger, chestnut honey, and a chili tincture. I thought the drink sounded outrageous, but, sadly, all I tasted was that honey, the ingredient of which I was least interested. In fact, the smokiness of the mezcal really did not play well with the chestnut honey, leaving it to taste sort of like licorice. I was not a fan. My companion's El Encanto included Casamigos Cristalino, Lillet Blanc, strawberry-lemongrass cordial, guava, and basil, which sounded herbaceous, but really just tasted like a fancy daiquiri. He enjoyed it, but I found it unimpressive. Our drinks were accompanied by a complementary bowl of spiced popcorn, which was delicious. We had come from an earlier dinner, so the snack was as much as I needed. However, the few larger food items that I saw others order all looked great. While I would go back to Perico to try some other items, I felt like I had had better, more affordable cocktails upstairs at Panela.

However, they recently revamped the space, updating the decor to ensure that the W Hotel remains at the forefront of modernity. The small, linear bar was moved from one side of the room into the center and was now a larger, semi-circle to make it easier to converse with neighboring imbibers. The space maintained its lounge feel, with couches and comfortable chairs scattered around the bar. A main change was that, instead of the Living Room being visible to anyone that walked into the hotel lobby, it was now hidden behind a translucent wall of lights, only visible to those that entered. That change enabled the bar to be more exclusive, or "discreet", as we heard someone mention at the bar, haha. The place was reasonably crowded on the Friday evening, and we grabbed seats at the bar in order to be more social. To that end, we had some interesting conversations with both locals and hotel guest. Also, our bartender, Jose, was excellent! He was engaging to speak with and also crafted fantastic cocktails. The Espresso Martini he made for me had a very robust coffee flavor and just the perfect hint of sweetness; it was definitely up there on my list of top espresso cocktails. The bar had a list of really creative and unique drinks, and I had initially wanted to try the Kyoto Bridge with Haku vodka, sake, ceremonial matcha, and yuzu, but Jose had told me that he did not have the necessary sake for it. However, he assembled my martini with such perfection that I did not mind having a more basic drink on that visit; I could always go back to try the Kyoto Bridge and certainly will after such an enjoyable experience!

But this year, a dark stain on that otherwise vibrant experience came from Lucky 7 bar itself. Let's be clear -- this wasn't just a case of being busy or understaffed. This was blatant, willful ignoring of anyone who didn't fit a very specific mold. Myself and several others waited patiently (and obviously) at the bar, cash in hand, only to be passed over again and again while bartenders prioritized regulars, deep-pocketed bros, and the kind of performative hipsters who drink PBRs out of obligation like their hot topic t-shirt to a punk band way beyond their years. What's worse: there was no acknowledgment, no "we'll be right with you," not even a glance. Just a pointed refusal to serve anyone who didn't register as familiar, flashy, or fashionable. Or, who knows what reason. We gave up after 15 minutes. Luckys is a great a dive bar that's lived through the different incantations of the JCs arts scene but the bartenders working during the festival this year, particularly the woman, worked with a particular set of blinders that you had to bow down to.
