The drinks are amazing and the bartenders are friendly. Love going there on Sundays for karaoke. Great little bar around the Glendale galleria! They have a daily happy hour up to 8 pm with $2 off cocktails but EVEN BETTER half off cocktail deal with yelp check in! They did have terrible cell service so was a little difficult to check in but they also have wifi so ask for the password! Kind of a blend between a sports bar, cocktail bar and games! Light and open atmosphere with plenty of comfy seating. They had huge screen TVs with baseball on as well as jenga on a side table. The cocktails are great (especially at half price). Attended the bar on Saturday with a large group. The bar was very spacious with combination of benches, tables and bar seating. I loved that they had games which was a good bonus to have people interact and have them off of their phones. The beer selection was great! I believe that we would have had a good time at this establishment but the doorman was hyper aggressive with the group. He made many in the group feel very uncomfortable and worst he allowed us to leave the facility with drinks and glasses in or hands just showing the contrast to what responsibilities he valued. read more

This establishment is really worth visiting, especially since it's so close to The Americana. The selection of food and drinks go along great with the music/vibe. The sound is played loud enough to still be comfortable but not to the point where you can't hear yourself think. The decor of the interior really gives it an authentic feel as well. If you're into card games or Jenga, then you'll have an even better time. Prices were on point as well, aside from the already good happy hour offerings. I believe they have some good Monday night jazz and weekend Karaoke that I would like to experience as well. This is one of the best places I've been to in this part of Glendale, I am looking forward to coming back and bringing some friends here as well. read more

This is a great place to go when you just want to hang out and blend in with a few drinks. While enjoying awesome music classics, you can also watch your old favorite movies! Although it gets very crowded at times, my husband and I always find a place to sit and chill. I love that you can go all dressed up or in jeans and a sweater. Over all, the staff is friendly and the place is clean. Drinks are average priced, and you do have to feel around for the right bar tender because the drinks are not at all consistent between them. This place is super awesome. Hell they have everything that you could want to drink, even sheep dip scotch! A large selection of whiskeys is what that means as well as a decent selection of beer. This to me isnt your typical bar. It is much more loungie than that. They have long sofas on the side of the room opposite the bar. This is great for a group that doesn't want to sit at the bar or is to big to sit at the bar. Let alone the bar is usually filled up with 2-3 person groups. They have a few TVs to show various stuff as well. Also they have low "coffee" tables aligned around the room with the couches and chairs to make it more hospitable to groups of any size. I love their selection of whiskeys, bourbons, ryes, and scotches here. It is outstanding. They literally have a lot of my favorites and a number of new things that I can try. What also helps is that they do have a regular full bar as well and that includes a number of taps with craft brewed beer. Pro Tip: Seemingly the only thing missing is the grub which can be brought in from one of the other local eateries. =) Depending on the night they will even have live music which makes for a nice change up. I haven't been here on any of those days yet, but I am sure that it would enhance the atmosphere but make it more difficult to carry on a conversation. This is definitely a fun nice bar to come to. Unfortunately that also means it comes with a price tag that I don't exactly love, but expect and live with. I will also say that their prices aren't as bad as some other whiskey bars that I know of, so that is pretty helpful. In the end its a great place to come and enjoy some time with friends, colleagues, or other patrons. Its definitely worth stopping by here sometime as I am sure you will enjoy it. read more

The Famous is a very confusing place to me. It wants to have a speakeasy feel with the decor but the place is too well lit and the front is all glass. They have several humongous screens with the games on yet it's not a sports bar since they don't serve any food and most of their drink selections are some form of whiskey. We were told though that we are allowed to bring our own food if we want to or order something from the nearby restaurant and they would bring it over. Parking is a pain to find on the street. You can go one block down and park in the structure for a small fee then walk over. There is also valet for the restaurant next door that you can probably utilize for $8. The place is obnoxiously loud, especially with people watching the game. The doors are kept opened so the front area, which is the only area with unreserved seating is quite cold. They do have couches, tables, and a few bar seats and big empty space towards the back. I ordered a cocktail from their house cocktails menu. It was $11. I forgot the name but it had pisco sour, lime juice, and blackberries. This sounds delicious except my drink tasted horrible. Since wasting alcohol is against my religion, I drank it anyway but would never order it again. The patrons are definitely a mixed bag of all age range and ethnicity. There are some really weird old guys that hang out there. One of them even waited for me outside the women's restroom, which scared me a little, and asked me if I could closely examine his new haircut and see if it was even. Hmm... read more

A trip here just before any New Year's craziness resulted in a chill visit to this whiskey bar. Dark woods, cushion-y bar stools for my big butt, and plenty of space to lounge out. Fine cocktails and new inventions, I kicked off my visit with the recommended Live Young Die Fast cocktail -- a spicy kick-in-your-mouth drink garnished with basil and boozed with gin. I'm no gin drinker, but the drink itself was pretty hot. I've never ventured into savory or spicy drinks, so this was a pretty neat intro. I followed this up the French (bubbly cognac concoction), Russian STD Mule (which was fine - but average) and the namesake Famous cocktail, which I enjoyed. They have a Happy Hour I could meet, a few beers on the menu, and the place is new enough that they are currently relying on word-of-mouth advertising. I don't know yet what sort of regular crowd is popping up here, but there were some annoyingly boisterous drunk people on my visit, but they didn't last long. Are you the type of counter-culture youngster looking for a bar that celebrates art and indie-rock in a way that makes you feel like a progressive intellectual? If so, please feel free to book yourself on the red-eye back to Brooklyn. Thankfully, The Famous doesn't go there. Believe it or not, this bar actually cares about the craft and takes pride in building a solid cocktail. As we entered the bar I could just tell the chances of me getting a proper Old Fashioned were high. The cavernous entry with red brick walls and dim miners lights made you feel like there was a whiskey barrel in the back that Nucky Thompson had set aside for you. Although the throwback setting is slightly interrupted by projectors and TV screens, nothing appears over the top nor out of place as is common with these types of hybrid bars. i.e., part prohibition/part modern. The bartender who made my first drink was a slender built gentleman sporting a wonderful Rollie Fingers tribute stache, likely rolled in soy paper each morning before leaving his home. Immediately, I was in good hands. I proceeded to ask about their selection of Rye whiskey and came upon a particular bottle that was new to me called Journeyman Ravenswood Rye Whiskey. The bartender, AKA "Stache", was able to quickly articulate the taste profile and share with me a few comparable classes of Rye from bottles I knew. "Stache" began to talk through his method for preparing the popular Old Fashioned cocktail. The drink was fantastic and the introduction to a new Rye made it even better. Good bartenders know that there is an experience associated with drinking and "Stache" is a solid barman. If I lived in that outdoor Americana masterpiece I would make The Famous my everyday spot. Discovering a place like The Famous { in Glendale of all places } is like finding Adam Bomb in your pack of series 1 Garbage Pail Kids when all you thought about was that piece of pink gum. I never thought I'd say this, but I wouldn't mind moving to Glendale. Ugh, I just said that! The Famous is one of the many new spots around the Americana to open up. In general, Brand Blvd is a pretty happening place nowadays. We came to The Famous on a Friday night and the place was unusually slow, but I don't mind. The place is new so it will take some time to pick up, but it's definitely a great spot to have a group gathering. They have a large open area and lounge seating alongside the walls. The drink menu consist of their original mixes (which are strong) and the tap selection suits my needs. The bartenders are very sweet, very friendly, and they were working on a new cocktail called The Pigeon. The story goes like this: One day a lonely pigeon flew into The Famous are started a raucous and was shooed out by a broom. Now the brave soul gets his own cocktail on the menu and I got a free drink ;) Oh, if you're a Beethoven prodigy, they have an open piano that no one really plays. Tonight my family of 12 came by here to kill 2 hours before a birthday dinner reservation. 1 hour in we were having a great time playing games & enjoying our drinks. It was very quiet (at most 10 other people there). My family went up to the bar to order drinks and we're being a bit indecisive. When the bartender (Bianca) cut them off and was extremely rude. She said "let's calm down and relax because let's be real you're not tipping." I could not believe that she had responded that way. First of all I'm confused why she said "let's calm down and relax" when they were not yelling/rowdy in any way. Second of all, my family always tips but even if someone had not, that is no way to talk to people or give service. I have been a server for almost 4 yrs and never talked to people that way, especially based on whether I was tipped or not because it's not professional. Something that Bianca has yet to learn. We had ordered many drinks by that point and we're giving them business on a slow day yet we're given attitude because someone had not tipped. My wife and I discovered The Famous, maybe on the second day of it's soft opening. Prior to being The Famous, this spot had been Cigar Bar On Brand, which was a little sketchy. Months ago, we saw the sign go up, it was in a great font, that looked upscale and old timey, but being where it is located, still wasn't sold entirely. Then one day it was open. As soon as we discovered it, my wife went away on a vacation around a holiday weekend, and I took the opportunity to get nicely acquainted with the place. If you are looking for your standard Jim Beams / Jameison / Johnny Walker / Makers / Jack Daniels whisky's then you are out of luck, but you can find those at any bar. The Famous broadens your pallet, as I have had more new and great whisky drinks than I could have imagined. This is a great Craft Cocktail establishment. The Vituli, The Famous, & The Life Young Die Fast drink are amazing and unique to their menu, but they can make you pretty much whatever you want. They have a huge selection of all sorts of spirits, and some great beer on tap. The staff is great. Tiga, Monique, Eric, are really great bar tenders ( I am sure the other bar tenders are great, I just haven't been served by them yet ), and Nick who is their master of spirit selections has a great taste for what he does. Thankfully this spot doesn't play club music. On the weekends it has a DJ spinning classic rock, blues, soul, brit pop, punk, new wave. And during the week they even have a jazz band that comes in. The short version- Trivia night just mediocre (fun depending on your group, I had a great time with my friends and family but most of the questions were bs. Mostly entertainment questions, but would have liked some Sports, History or even Geography questions. Prizes included $30 off tab for the 1st place winner and they also had a bonus round for a free round of drinks. Food at The Famous was good. Had the Al Pastor Chicken Tacos (Shredded al pastor marinated chicken thighs, spicy tomatillo salsa, cilantro cream, pickled pineapple, red onion. Three per order.) which was REALLY yummy. Great taco on chicken tacos, with great flavors and it was filling. Drinks were hit or miss. I think I had the Riverbed and the Cherry-Lime Rickey go for the Cherry-Lime Rickery much better flavors. Overall drinks were tasty. Main reason why it's 3 and not 4 stars... I messaged the owner one whole month before my birthday to inquire about the Trivia Night and if I could make reservations for 15+ ppl. The owner Nic told me yes they could accommodate this request and asked me to call and confirm which I immediately did. I called on a Thursday night and spoke with a nice gentleman who told me that I could make a reservation and took my name and number. COOL! The night before my reservation I got a call from someone at the Famous and they told me that they do not accommodate reservations and that they cannot honor what I reserved almost a month ago. He apologized for the inconvenience but told me there was nothing they could do and suggested I come early. I didn't appreciate getting this info 1 day before my event (was no way for me to tell my party of 17 to relocate) and the callous customer service rubbed me the wrong way (not friendly whatsoever more matter-of-factly, "that's yo bad" tone). Stopped in for the first time on Tuesday, then returned again the very next night... their Old Fashioned skills are that good. On Tuesday, I was solo, and completely sober upon arrival. I missed their happy hour ($2.00 off most drinks) by 2 minutes, but did not care once I tasted my drink. David, as well as every other bartender in the place, makes Old Fashioneds just the way I like them. You will not find any cherries in your Old Fashioneds here. Picture Seven Grand as opposed to CPK. I only had time for one drink Tuesday, but on Wednesday, a bit more. I returned for a friend's bday with a party of 6. Ironically, none of them had even ever heard of "The Famous" before. If The Famous isn't by now, it definitely should be. Everyone in my party agreed that the drinks and vibe there were excellent. In just two quick visits, they have already jumped into my top 3 places to grab a drink in LA. As Bill M. so eloquently put it in his review - the Journeyman Ravenswood Rye Whiskey is perfect for an Old Fashioned. I will be sure to get "Stache's" name when I return, and give him the proper acknowledgment for his perfect drink suggestion. And at only $13.00 a pop ($11.00 if ordered on its own, $2.00 to make it an old fashioned), I see no reason to ever drive down the wallet busting WhistlePig highway again. Overall I went with 4 stars because I still have to try them out on a busier night, when the food trucks I've heard about make their appearance. The Famous has plenty of comfy seating and happy hour every day until 8p. I got a cocktail called Ivy Rose, which was good but a bit too sweet. My boyfriend got an old fashioned (his go-to drink). Our bartender was quite helpful and had super generous hands. I am not a whiskey/rye drinker, but I can tell you their duck confit tacos were unexpectedly delicious. You get 3 regular-sized tacos for $8. The tacos had a delicious kick (from sweet Thai chili) and wonderful flavour. Awesome place. Must check it out. The place is great because they manage to get the old-school whiskey bar feel with the perfect modern mix. They have large black and white pictures of Glendale from years back, which is really cool. They also always have some sort of old-school movie playing. The best part about The Famous is the quality drinks they make. Every bar tender looks like they know exactly what they're doing and they do it really well. Everything on the menu is just an amazing drink. I've never been disappointed in any drink I've gotten. The only slightly bad experience I had was when there were about 4 birthdays going on and it got way too crowded. Been here twice now, big fan of the place for 2 reasons: 1) Old fashioned is on point 2) Everything else Their whiskey drinks are legit legit. The selection is more than enough for the snobbiest of snobs and the bartenders are pros. I'd recommend getting any of your staple whiskey cocktails that you use as your benchmark for bartender skill and I can almost promise you won't be disappointed. The bar set up itself is really well done. The floor is spacious, the seating is plenty and comfortable (you get the bottle service vibe wherever you sit), and the decor is classy but also welcoming. I don't give too many places 5 stars...but when I do...it's because it's great. Since my fiance moved to Glendale...we've tried a bunch of different places off of Brand. I have to say...THE FAMOUS is my favorite. I've gone a bunch of different times and each time it just gets better. They have this super delicious pomegranate vodka cocktail...at least I think it's pomegranate. Anyway doesn't matter all the bartenders are super nice...and if you go before what 10:30? or 11? you can still order some food...or at least the french fries...and boy are those great...especially when you're drinking. Whenever we have friends that come by...we always take them to the famous for a great time. Great booze, great bartenders, great people...great atmosphere. To top it off...it's NOT expensive.
