Soooo I just read a review that kind of upset me. We were in the Firehouse Restaurant at the same time as a certain couple came in. Right at opening. We have been coming to this restaurant for years. And have never been disappointed, that being said. The female of the couple ahead of us was very demanding the waitress to split up large group tables for just the 2 of them. Did not request nicely at all. That was denied. And I know exactly why, we have seen time and again very large groups hit this restaurant. It didn't happen today, but it does frequently. The server was nothing but prompt, kind, pleasant. So if you're out there to bash businesses because you are making demands, and they don't jump through your hoops. PLEASE save it. After reading the reviews we were looking forward to trying the deluxe chowder, we were disappointed. They had just reopened after being closed for awhile so maybe they were not back in stride yet but we wouldn't eat there again. The food was excellent we had the deluxe clam chowder bowl, it was delicious, no sand...it was creamy, flavorful, and had crab and shrimp on top with Cheese. This was served with toasted garlic bread. We also had a side of garlic fries. I'm not a garlic fry connoisseur but my partner is and he said they were perfect. Clam chowder was excellent. I had fish and chips. It was bland and the fries where awful. The rest of the menu was mediocre. Our waitress was so bad we didn't even leave a tip, which has not happened in decades. For my wife not to leave a tip means it really sucked. The carpet is dirty and greasy. The chairs haven't been cleaned in awhile. There where ceiling tiles missing. The place has dust everywhere. The bar was dirty. The place needs a serious deep cleaning and paint job. We loved this place. Had the best clam chowder almost ever. Was full of clams, loved it had celery in it, was piping hot (which is important), and very few potatoes (if any?), and was rich but not greasy/buttery. So good. As the hour in happy hour approached, we headed to the waterfront and found this restaurant/bar. I asked the bartender how she was going to make us happy and she replied, or at least we thought she replied, that drinks were discounted by 50 cents. Wow - how am I going to invest my savings? My wife chose a glass of the house Merlot while I sought mellowness with a Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine was fine for what it was, but when I went to settle our bill, a second bartender informed us that big discount only applied to beer. There goes my autumn trip to Las Vegas. read more

The food here is so delicious, we stayed a night in Florence and picked some up for dinner to bring back to our hotel. We got the steamer clams, calamari and crab cakes and they were all to die for! They are open!! They are working with all restrictions in place! Tables are 6 foot plus apart, hand sanitizer as you enter is accessible for everyone. When tables were finished eating they were sanitizing them right away. Staff are very cautious and just a great job! The food was very tasty tonight! I had the fried shrimp meal as well as calamari for appetizer. Our service was great! She seemed to be aware of our needs and quickly refilled drinks as we needed them refilled. Chaotic service is the best way I can think to describe our experience. We got there on a Sunday evening at the end of a long holiday weekend, so perhaps the staff was simply exhausted. I can't say, but when we approached the restaurant there were other people at the door being told it would be a half hour wait or more. Someone asked about leaving a list and the staff person seemed surprised at the question, but after a couple minutes a pad was found and names for two parties ahead of us and then ours were taken. We walked around town for a few minutes then went back to check on progress. We ended up being seated within five minutes more, making the "30 minute" claim clearly an intended discouragement perhaps? However, once seated we were handed menus then ignored for another 20 minutes, at which point we simply got up and left. There appeared to be at least three serving staff, maybe more, in a pretty small establishment. Not all the tables were full, but they didn't seem much interested in actually serving customers. The absolute best restaurant I have ever been to, amazing food. My first day here in Florence I stopped here and after being here for a few months now this is the ONLY restaurant I have eaten at that I have liked and come back for more. The have great service, friendly and helpful. The food comes out in a timely manner, no excessive waiting. The decor along with tv allows for good entertainment for my Fiancée and I as we enjoy our time out together. We went again on July 3 and it was so very busy with customers over the extended holiday weekend. Big shout out to Krystal who handled all the tables. She was physically running orders and food out to everyone and amazingly kept a friendly, wonderful attitude the whole time! Let's be frank: the Firehouse is a sports bar in a touristy part of town. Like many of it's theme-heavy bretherin, there's a good deal of contrived atmosphere (in this case, it's fire department shirts, Harleys, early 60's music, sports, and brewery paraphanalia...hope I didn't miss anything there). Food is typical sports bar fare: burgers, soup, and some "Cajun" dishes. I went with mushroom Swiss burger and clam chowder. The burger was huge, too huge really, and the meat char broiled to an interesting texture. The bun let the burger down, being very sweet. The chowder was excellent. I wouldn't go back, the food was OK but not great, the atmosphere underwhelming, and it's rather expensive. Two stars for the burger and atmosphere, add one for the chowder. And though it was Sunday afternoon, when I would usually cut a lot of slack to a restaurant, my wife insists that I mention that the service was really slow and not particularly good. read more

We have eaten here in the past on our trips to Florence, but this was the LAST time. I ordered a chicken salad. My husband ordered fish & chips. My grandson wanted a shrimp basket and a chocolate milk. Not a difficult order, right? Well, not so fast. Grandson's milk came first. They used powdered chocolate and MAYBE about a teaspoon in the whole glass. There was ZERO taste of chocolate. Geeze, how hard is chocolate milk??? Grandson was very disappointed. There was only one waitress in the whole place...until the other one came back from her break. We FINALLY received our food after a good 45 minute wait. As it arrived, we saw my chicken salad contained deep fried, very HOT chicken on top, which had caused the salad to wilt badly. The chicken was over done. (Like shoe leather.) Just then, we overheard a waitress asking the cook why all of the deep fried foods were coming out so dark. (Others were complaining.) Both my husband's fish and my grandson's shrimp were extremely over done and literally inedible.( And it stunk!) It was clear that nobody had cleaned the fryers in a very long time. We weren't able to eat anything. When we were asked how our dinner was, we were honest. There were a lot of excuses made...and we were given a 10% discount off of our DRINKS. This is ridiculous. Recently my wife, dog and I were strolling along Bay Street and thought we would stop and have a drink. It was early afternoon so not too many were inside. My wife stayed outside with the dog while I went to the bar to order. After about 3 minutes of waiting and no bartender in sight I walked around the corner from the bar where I discovered the employees chatting. I asked if anyone was working the bar and one stepped up and said I'll be there. I went back to the bar and after a minute or so just left. I did look over my shoulder and still no bartender. Came for the clam chowder. Not going to go over the deep end like a lot of these people and say it was the best chowder ever. I personally can't even claim it's the best in florence (only tried one other place, and yes, this place was better). This isn't a fancy seafood place. It's a fire fighter themed pub/restaurant. That's not necessarily bad, but let's just say there was some karaoke going on while I was trying to enjoy my chowder. However the staff was friendly and the service was good. Back to the chowder. Yes, I was goaded into getting the deluxe chowder ($6 a cup, $9 a bowl). Sure, it was good. Had a bunch of cheese, was nice a creamy and comes with a bit of extra fish. It was good! Not to mention very filling- a cup filled me up good. My friend got crab cakes and regular chowder (which she enjoyed as much as the deluxe). The cakes were nice and soft and came in an interesting almost like, mango salsa type of cream sauce. I liked it! There are a lot of seafood restaurants in Florence, and I'd probably try another before coming back here (refrains from making plenty-other-fish-in-the-sea joke). read more
