The service was great, (We were one of only a couple tables there, so take it with a grain of salt). Where do I start with the food....., maybe with the starter. Crab cakes were luke warm, pretty sure they were microwaved. I got the feeding frenzy, 2 of my scallops tasted of Ammonia(means they were spoiled), the Mahi was B.L.A.N.D, the shrimp wasn't bad, and the crab legs, the shells were fairly soft, so tells me no where near fresh. My wife's filet Oscar, was drowned in a sauce, that became the texture of snot as it cooled. The garlic mashed potatoes were beyond bland. I would like to let the manager know that I had a group there this past Saturday Night, July 20th. There was definitely a shortage of staff. The poor hostess was frazzled, and was doing the bussing, the setting, and escorting guests to their table as well. We were seated in the back section of the main floor, and it was stifling hot. No one waited on us for a good while. (I had brought guests with me from New York City and wanted to show them a good time in Bemus. We had a young child with us, and needed to be seated and have our orders taken. My daughter approached a young waiter named Reid, and he was so kind and pleasant, and tried extra hard to accommodate us. He moved us to the other section and took excellent care of us. He went the extra mile to make sure we enjoyed our experience at the Fish. You need more employees like him, and we are extra grateful that we had him as our waiter. It is because of him that we would return to the Fish. When we did get our food it was most enjoyable! Again many thanks for employing excellent staff like Reid. read more

We stopped here because we were starving and the wait at EBC was an hour. Instead we had our choice of tables at The Fish and waited an hour for an over cooked burger and cold fries. There's a reason there are plenty of open tables because the service is terrible and the kitchen not prepared. Gave it one star because this is a beautiful location on the water, but you could smell the exhaust of an idling boat on the dock. My experience here was absolutely horrible. First off they take almost 20 minutes to bring any type of beverages including water. They bring the food one by one, and it takes an hour to 2 hours. The food is over priced. You pay $11 for barely any salad. During my experience I found a piece of tissue paper in my salad. When you order fruit they give you a tiny bit of STRAWBERRIES in a small plate. They never gave us a side of fries and still put it in our bill. I would never recommend coming here. read more

Ordered food to go and was very disappointed! My family ordered 3 orders of the crab legs. When we got home after picking them up and opened them we literally only got the crab legs... not the red potatoes or vegetables that are suppose to come with it! We were charged the same price as the dinner that comes with the sides so why we didn't get them I don't know. The crab legs themselves were not good! We each got three clusters and had only 1 cluster in each order that tasted okay. The others had no flavor, smelled bad, and didn't even look right! Came here looking for the Italian fisherman and was disappointed to find out it had been turned into....this. The menu is nothing special, besides the ultra high price tags, prices I've never even seen in places demanding much more respect. I opted for take out since dining in seemed like a chore, couldn't get waited on at the bar so I ended up leaving and calling my order in. The feeling I got at the bar was "unwelcoming" and "confusion" from the staff. Granted, I was ordering take out but still, it was not busy and was past any sort of dinner rush. 40 min later my meals were ready to take, I ordered the chicken penne for my lady and the braised short ribs for myself. On first inspection of my plate I knew there was an issue the rice was obviously undercooked and hard. The menu stated "5 ribs" but unfortunately I only received 3. The beans were okay very basic, the ribs were however very good, just wish they would have provided the proper amount as stated. My lady's dish was all but the same, very bland pasta with less chicken then mushrooms, very little sauce and an overall "basic" feel to the entire dish. Overall, for the price tag ($41.00 for these particular 2) I'm super dissatisfied. With drinks dining in would have been outrageously expensive, and far overpriced. I don't see myself ever coming back here again. The Italian fisherman was a place where we would spend birthdays and get not only great meals and service but a feeling that everything was worth the price and you left feeling satisfied. This is not the case here. Well, The Fish got a star based on view of sunset. As far as food...find someplace else to eat. We waited almost an hour and half for partial service. Rest of food arrived 15 minutes later. They were out of many items but allowed us to order and then come back to tell us that fact. If it was a packed house, i could see the wait but there were only 5 tables occupied. Some dishes were poorly cooked. Wine in a dish should not be poured in right before serving. You need to cook it. Watered down drinks and half dressed salad were a disappointment especially when the bill came. Very pricey for what was delivered. The top of this iceberg was that the owner fired all the managers, had no replacements and college aged students trying to run a pass and wait on tables. The owner was no where to be found when i asked to speak to a manager. Someone needs Restaurant Rescue to come in. Do yourself a favor and pass this one up. read more

Perfect spot to eat and watch the most beautiful sunsets ever! Great food and great options now that there is a new owner, he's way better than before! There are beyond vegan options now that are great! Paint night there is also a plus which is fun and very cheap. The music is great and you don't have to pay extra to get in a bar to listen to music. If I could give this place no stars, I would. We were at Bemus Point for a bachelorette weekend. We intended to eat dinner and had plans afterwards. We were seated at 7:10 pm.. a table of 7. We ordered our food right away and it wasn't until 8:50 that our waitress even returned to our table and that was only because we asked another waitress to please bring us more waters. We asked when our food was going to be ready as we had ordered over an hour ago and she ended up bringing half of our tables food out... half of which were incorrect. As some of us began to attempt to eat the meals that were brought out, we asked our waitress for silverware and she returned with 3 sets for our party of 7. Her response was "sorry, this was all I could find". The salmon that I ordered thst was listed on the menu as "basil pesto salmon with garlic mashed potatoes", was served a plain piece of salmon.. no seasoning or anything and most definitely box mashed potatoes with simply no garlic or any kind. At this point, while we are all waiting for our meals, it grew darker and darker outside and there was not a single kind of lighting over or close to our table. We had to use our phone flashlights so we could somewhat see our table and food. We are not ones to complain but everyone was irritated and the other place we were going to afterwards was getting ready to close. I went to the hostess stand and asked if I could speak with the manager and this man came over, who was standing near the front door. He said he was the manager and also the head chef.. confused as to why our head chef is standing out by the front door when the kitchen is downstairs and in the back of the restaurant and our tables food was still NOT out. I explained the situation and his response was "what would you like me to do about it?".. with a smirk on his face. Pretty sure if you are the head chef and manager, YOU should have a solution. Our water cups were empty for a very long time. We politely asked a nearby waitress for a pitcher of water. She walked back over with an empty hand and said she simply could not bring us any water. We asked our waitress when our food would be done as we had been sitting there for over 2 hours. She brought half of our party's meals over and half of that half was made wrong or not accurate to the menu description. We didn't have any silverware for several minutes after this. One of the hostesses kindly brought us silverware, followed by our waitress only brining 3 sets of silverware for our party of 7. We then waited another 10 minutes for the rest of our food. After brining this to the attention of the manager who was also the head chef, he replied, "what would you like me to do about it?" in a rude manner. Absolutely awful food-- will not return. My husband ordered the special and had to send it back twice it tasted like dog food! This was the fine dining part-- not worth it! The view is great but that is all. Too bad, such a disappointment. Update: it's been over 48 hours since I wrote this review and nobody from the restaurant has contacted me. I'm not surprised. The view was nice as were the drinks. But the food was tremendously disappointing. The ahi poke was tough and chewy and no flavor. Service was attentive by somewhat fledgling servers (In the wine bottle opening department), but that will come with experience. I am back in Florida now, but I think often about how good the meal and ambiance was and hope to return before the end of summer. I had my worst ever restaurant experience here as a tourist. Sat down and at the table we selected overlooking the lake -- what a gorgeous view. With white table cloths and nice seafood selection, I was ready to drop $150 at this restaurant. We ordered wine and all you can eat crab legs and 20 minutes passed with no wine or water refills. Although I typically am laid back about a wait, this seemed excessive, and no one else around me was being served either. I approached the hostess stand and kindly asked about the status of our wine orders. The waitress approached us and advised that no one was handling the bar to pour the wine for us. This was very odd and disorganized to me. We sat back down and our wines came about 5 minutes later. There was black residue in my boyfriend's white wine, so he flagged the waitress down to refill it. She refilled the same glass and once again we had a glass of wine with residue. Deciding to move past it, we accepted it as is and continued to wait an additional 45 minutes for our first round of crab legs to no avail. With fireworks to catch and totally parched, we cut our losses and gave the waitress, who turned out to also be the manager, the money to cover our wine costs and walked out after learning our meals weren't coming anytime soon. I know the reviews haven't been favorable but I would like to share mine and my husbands experience. We couldn't find anything open in the DeWittville Mayville area because it's a Monday. I personally think that's odd but as I recall from living in the area over 45 years ago that it's always been that way. So we headed to Bemus in search of a decent place to eat. We read the reviews but decided why not try it. We were the only ones there and we worried the food wouldn't be fresh. Anyhow I had Chicken Parm which was delicious. My husband had Beef on Weck which very good. We each had a beer. The bill was $37 before the tip. I rated it 5 stars because the service, food and prices were excellent. And the place is beautiful. We have a place on Lake Chautauqua so we were excited to see the Italian Fisherman 'reinvented', and had high hopes for The Fish. Our experience last season was only on the outside deck a couple times to listen to the live music, which was great. The service however was terrible. We waited forever for drinks and food. We saw a gentleman walking around that we assumed was the manager. He wasn't doing anything to help out the over worked staff at all. We were later told by our server that he was the owner! We decided to give it another try this past weekend. We had family visiting and went to the inside restaurant for dinner. Since it's early in the season, it wasn't busy at all. Our service wasn't too bad until a few other tables were filled. But the food was one of the worst ever experienced anywhere! Three guests in our party ordered the Chicken Parmesan, and the chicken was over cooked, rubbery, and was covered in so much breading that it was impossible to cut. It looked like a deep fried chicken breast, and was plopped on a huge bowl of spaghetti. It was disgusting. I had the fish tacos which were minced pieces of fish with some kind of sauce on top. The tortilla was tough, as if it had been frozen and then microwaved. My husband had the diver scallops which he said were terrible as well. They did a nice job in redecorating the place. It's very clean and inviting. But they don't seem to know what they're doing in the kitchen or management. They've got the best location in Bemus, but if they don't get their act together, the location won't matter much. We'll be going to See-Zhur House or Ellicottville Brewing Co. from now on. read more

I slept on this before writing. So many people were hoping this place would make the shoddy Italian Fisherman an ancient memory. Keep hoping. The Fish is a clean, nicely decorated restaurant with an imaginative menu. Problem is, they totally lack in execution. I've eaten there at least 6 times from the day it opened hoping they would find their way. My wife and I had dinner a few days ago with fingers crossed. My request for an extra dry martini, up, with a twist, arrived in a rocks glass, a twist and three olives. Extra dry meant extra extra dry vermouth in the martini. We both had the filet, ordered medium rare. The filet arrived charred and dry. The dining experience was going south so fast we didn't bother to complain. The evening was capped when I ordered a glass of Cabernet to enjoy with my dry filet. The red wine arrived ice cold. Anyway, it could have been worse. We almost ordered the Beef Wellington for two for $89.00. Still, I'm so hoping they can find a chef and someone to train the staff from host/hostess to servers, to bartenders. I've never seen a restaurant with so much potential get it so wrong Was there last night. Only getting worse. Sad. Beautiful venue. Total incompetence bottom to top. read more

The upstairs and downstairs of the restaurant serve different menus so I can't make any comments about the downstairs food/bar. The upstairs restaurant used to be the Italian fisherman and always had quality food, although it was usually pricey. The food was always worth the price. The Fisherman was taken over by new owners and renamed the Fish. Prices are still a bit high but food quality has decreased to be sure. I started with the panzanella salad, which was the best part of my meal: lots of fresh mozzarella, pickels onion, tomato and homemade croutons (croutons were a bit large and hard to eat, if they were smaller, this would've been my favorite part). Other diners at my table had the soup special which was a potato soup. They said it had good flavor but came out almost cold, which ruined the soup. For entree, I had the Sazon chicken penne. This was also just luke warm temperatures and tasted like someone had sprinkled adobo on penne and served it. Gross. Someone at my table had the ahi poke bow, which they gave a lot of tuna in this dish. It would be worth the price if you really like tuna. Overall, food quality was not worth the price. This basically a hole in the wall. It's not glamorous and has bugs everywhere which is disgusting. No one knows what they are doing. They are clueless on the menus and drinks they have to offer. Servers are young and unprofessional. I have seen them stand around talking while only a few actually do side work. Management is a joke. Who ever is managing clearly doesn't have the credentials to manage a restaurant. They have no idea how to maintain a steady and functional atmosphere. Managment is never around and from what I have seen, has no idea how to communicate with staff. Servers are also oblivious to their surroundings. The food is decent. The new paint job is very tacky. Upstairs is suppose to be fine dining but certainly is not. It is a gaudy tacky blue and the downstairs is teal and orange. The place is just a mess inside and out. Clearly, the new owners have no idea what they are doing whatsoever. It's clear that the owners (Tom and Bill) have never owned or had actual experience working in a multi dining atmosphere. And I can say the same for management too. I wouldn't recommend wasting time and money here. read more

This was probably the worst service I've ever experienced. The Waiter, Christopher, was either on his first day or was never trained on how to properly wait on a table. We were a party of six. We started out with our drink order for 3 beers and water. He took our orders and came back with 2 beers. Rushing away without comment, I figured he was going to get the third beer. About twenty minutes later, the bartender, who happened to not be very friendly, showed up with my beer. No apology, not a word! Dropped it off and ran. A few minutes later Christopher shows up with 2 side salads and 2 French Onion soups. The soup was cold and the salads didn't have any dressing. We flag him down and yell across the restaurant that the salads had no dressing. His reply was oh well you didn't say what you wanted. First, the menu said it came with balsamic vinegarette. I would again expect an apology and for Christopher to ask what we would like. He slaps two side dressings down, no word, and off he runs. Couldn't get a word in on the cold soups. Oh well! A minute later the two whom didn't have a salad or soup, their meals show up! Nice, right in the middle of our starters. They take them back. Another 5 minutes, and all the meals show up. Christopher attempts to put the meals on the table but guess what, he never picked up the soup or salad bowls. He asked us if we could move them to the side. Oh, sorry for your inconvenience! He never picked the bowls up. Now we all have our meals, great! Not so fast, 4 of them were cold! The mashed potatoes and vegetables were completely cold and the 4 steaks were warm. 1 of the party asked if they could substitute French Fries for the mashed potatoes. The plate shows up with mashed potatoes with the FF on the side. She explains that she didn't want the mashed potatoes and Christopher rudely tells her they come with meal! The seafood pasta was hot so I assume the steaks were waiting on the seafood. That was it, never saw Christopher again until the bill. No how's your meal, would you like coffee or dessert, thank you, never cleared the plates, nothing. read more

Probably the worst experience in a restaurant in years. After sitting for about 30 minutes I went looking for someone to serve us. As I entered the main part of the restaurant a waitress came out of the kitchen with a meal in each hand. She was crying so hard that my first thought was, she is crying into the food! She served the two meals and then came to take our orders. Apparently she was only filling in as she was the hostess and the regular waitress had just quit and walked out. She was the smart one. Our experience went downhill from that point on. My omelette was terrible, dry, small and tasteless. People at the next table gave up trying to be served and left. The people who replaced them also left. There was a manager (owner?) there. He did nothing to help. The management of this restaurant is causing a blight on Bemus Point. The other businesses in town should do something soon as those of us who regularly visited were left with a very bad taste in our mouths. Pun intended. read more

This is our second attempt at this restaurant--because it's relatively new, I thought I'd give them the benefit of a second try. For the price, the food is just Ok and not a good value. My husbands fish fri was served RAW in the middle. They made him another dinner but he watched me eat my dinner and I watched him eat his 15 minutes later when his second (much improved) meal came out. We sat in the bar area downstairs and the women behind the bar talked non-stop at full voice. We visit Bemus Point often and will it likely not choose it over the other options here. read more

I took a group of seven ladies to The Fish for lunch on July 10. I was nervous about doing this after reading some of the reviews but we wanted to dine near the water. Our service was excellent. Maybe they have hired more help. There were a fair number of tables on the lower deck where we ate, but we were served immediately. Our waitress, Emma, was very pleasant and helpful. She almost seemed excited and happy to wait on us. She came back several times after we were served to ask if we needed anything else. Probably one of the best waitresses I have ever had. The food was good, too. I ordered chicken quesadilla for $12. It came with four large servings. I would not hesitate to go there again. read more

The ambiance was nice. Great view of the sunset on the lake. Unfortunately the food did not meet expectations. Salads were good but seared tuna was woefully over cooked. Plus who serves tuna with green beans? I was really hoping this restaurant was going to be good. The Italian Fisherman, that operated in this primo spot was marginal. But hope springs eternal. It wasn't an improvement. Our waiter was nice but not at the level expected for fine dining. Your best bet is to go to Ellicottville Brewing across the street.
