A great place for sushi, great salad, sushi, panko mac and cheese, good date spot but i like it less every time i come here.

The Resturant has good sushi, but gives small portions. I eat sushi everywhere and at this place it's more pricier than the other places I've been and a lot smaller portions. read more

Food was okay, bartender service was horrible!! Very slow night for the restaurant, sat at the bar to watch the game. Bartender was not friendly, could barely wave her down to order and it was SLOW tonight. I considered cancelling my order and waking out. Took 10 minutes to get acknowledged. She forgot to bring 2 of the 3 items I ordered. Couldn't wait to get out of there. It's a shame since the hostesses were great and place has a lot of potential. Won't be coming back :/ read more

I had a hard time in deciding whether or not to write this review and this is why. My family and I have been coming to this restaurant for the past 10 years, we considered it one of our go-to/favorite places to eat. When it came time to my boyfriends birthday I decided to take him out and of course I decided on The Fish because I knew they would never let me down; unfortunately, this would be the last time I would be going there to eat. We went on a Wednesday night and had the Kobe Burger specifically in mind. There were about three other parties in the restaurant. We sat in a booth next to the window. Our first disappointment came when the waitress informed us there was only one burger left....on a Wednesday night. We didn't get too upset, even though that's what we both wanted we understood and looked for something else on the menu. As we are waiting for our food I notice a huge roach, the size of my thumb, crawling on the inside of the window, close to my boyfriends face. Luckily neither my boyfriend and I are scared of roaches so we quietly got up and went to the hostess stand to ask to move tables. Little did I know the "hostess" was the manager. When I asked to move tables due to the roach all she said was "thats fine". So, we move tables feeling a little disturbed and grossed out to say the least. As we sit down in our new table we unfold to see extremely dirty napkins, as if someone was trying to remove their makeup with the napkin. We inform our waitress about the napkins and she apologizes and brings new ones. At this point my boyfriend and I are getting fed up. No one, besides our waitress, had approached us and apologized for anything that had happened. We tell our waitress about the roach incident and she responded with "I'll talk to my manager". She returns 5 minutes later saying "she'll take care of it". My boyfriend and I are confused as in take care of us? Take care of the napkins? The roach? Our meal? The waitress returns and we ask her these questions and she responds with "let me ask". The manager, who turned out to be the hostess, approaches us with an agitated manner and says "So I cannot comp the whole meal because roaches are natural in a big city. There's nothing we can do about it. All the restaurants have them so sorry that's why I can't comp the whole meal" and she walks away. My boyfriend and I are extremely upset at this point. We had no intention of trying to get a free meal. I wanted to take him somewhere I thought had the best service and food and we were more than willing to pay the price. The manager never apologized for our terrible experience, she only apologized for not being able to comp our meal. I am extremely disappointed in the management service and how they handled the situation and most importantly how they treated my boyfriend and I. My boyfriend did not have a good birthday dinner and we, along with my family, will no longer be going to this restaurant that we've been going to for over 10 years. read more

Some of my friends swear by their Thursday night reverse happy hour. I finally made it out there and I have to say, even though it's an extremely small happy hour menu (2 rolls and 3 drinks I believe), it's really good. The rolls are only $5 and the drinks the same (give or take a $1). Service was fast and there really wasn't anything to complain about. read more

I went for lunch on a Tuesday. The host recognized that I was looking for a friend and pointed me in her direction. The waitress was nice and the staff kept my drink refilled. I had the chicken teriyaki bento box. It was a great lunch for $12 but the tempura vegetables were very tempuara-d. I'd like to see this place on a weekend. read more

went here on a thursday for reverse happy hour at 8pm. parking is a pain for this area, because all the street parking is taken and they have a dinky garage for patrons which is always full. we were promptly seated after arriving. ordered: dynamite shrimp clay pot pork calamari godzilla roll lickity split roll shoi roll my favorite dishes were the dynamite shrimp and clay pot pork. all the rolls were good quality, fresh, and delicious. but quantity-wise, i thought the restaurant was kind of skimpy on the rolls. you get maximum 5-6 pieces per roll, vs other places like kata robata where you get about 9-10 pieces per roll. the menu options are limited compared to other sushi places like kata robata and azuma. if you want alright sushi in midtown, come here...if you can find parking. the restaurant was kind of loud as they have a live DJ on thursday nights. makes it hard to carry conversations inside. read more

This was my first time at this restaurant and I am very pleased at the food and service. The only little fit I had was that I felt that there was too much on the menu and that it was not descriptive enough. My server however was very helpful, I believe his name was Vance and he recommended the miso soup and the house salad with ginger dressing as an appetizer. The miso soup came out hot and tasted amazing. It came with an abundant amount of mushrooms which made the soup taste even better. The salad came in a good portion and the ginger dressing tasted pretty good. I did however wanted to try the miso dressing but hopefully I will be back again. The other entree that my server recommended was the Kobe Burger and my goodness was it amazing. I would have never imagined that a sushi restaurant was even capable of making a burger taste so fresh and juicy. The truffle fries were very flavorful and was a good finishing touch to the burger. Super! The atmosphere is cozy. The food is yummy. The crab cream puffs are a must as an appetizer. There is a variety of specialty rolls for anyone's palate. The caterpillar, volcano, and lickity split rolls are some of my favorites. read more

On a Saturday at 1 pm the waitress and the buster were the only two people in the resturant. The waitress introduced herself and told us this information, told us she was busy with a six-top inside. I asked for a cucumber mint drunk advertised on the menu. Well there were no bartenders in house and she didn't know how to make it. Don't take me wrong - the food is good, the happy hours are amazing, lunch menu is the best. There is some mystery with service here. It does not matter what we order, something always got forgotten or messed up. Second, sweet bartender-ladies almost completely ignore female customers (except one, she is really cool). It does not matter that we come almost every weekend and always leave good tips (we do!:) - we never get as good service as dudes do. read more

I was SO excited when I found out The Fish was coming to Houston, this was one of my favorite places to eat in West Village ( Fancy Dallas Shopping center). I decided to go with some friends as they were craving sushi that day. To begin with, our drinks took 20min to come out, food took another 20min after drinks. THATS 40 MINUTES of wait time. No apology from waiter. Me and one friend decided that it might be easier to go inside and order drinks...WRONG. The bartender made eye contact with us immediately and we simply did the universal polite hand wave gester as a thirsty patron. But no, he was more focused on pulling drink orders for the watresses ordering in the well. ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS, take care of fron bar before well orders, anyone in the restaurant business knows this. He didn't say a word to us until 15 minutes of us standing there. And no, the place wasn't even half packed. The sushi we recieved was below par, dried fish that did not taste fresh whatsoever. If you know sushi you know when fish has been repeatedly frozen and thawed. We asked thoroughly about the quality of octopus before ordering, one thing with octopus is if you can't do it right, don't do it at all, way to rubbery to be on a sushi menu. Good thing we came at Happy Hour pricing or I wouldve been livid. Needless to say this is another one of Midtowns restaurants that promise on ambiance but fail at cuisine. Giving them 2 stars was a compliment. Will not be coming back here. read more

My boyfriend and I went to this restaurant last weekend and we loved it! Food was amazing. We started off with the lobster wontons as an appetizer and it is to die for. Linda T., our waitress was very attentive and respectful. The atmosphere is a little loud, but it's to be expected as its in the midtown area. This place has really impressive decor except the seats in the booths which are ripped from usage and uncomfortable. The drinks are a good level of dirty and the rolls are intricate and filling. Even the rolls on the happy hour menu, usually plain at other restaurants, are extremely well priced for the ingredients. I did have a problem with a piece of straw paper in one of my drinks but the food definitely made up for that and the unpleasant seating. read more

Now that the re modeling has been complete we can enjoy our favorite downtown sushi place. The quality of the fish and the servers are always top notch. I have yet to sit and drink around happy hour but I am sure the drinks are just and nice as we get during lunch. The valet makes it very easy to get in and out. read more

I kinda like this place because of their happy hour on Sunday's but their sushi just doesn't taste good. The rice has a flavor that is too vinegary and sticky and then they put chili powder on it. Not how fresh sushi should taste. Maybe if they fixed this it would be better. read more

Me and my buddy had a random craving for some sushi and it just so happened that this place was right around the corner from where we stay in midtown. The location is nice, not too crowded but a good amount of people traffic during the evening (we went at 8:30pm) creating a vibrant atmosphere. They have a patio area/ outdoor seating. I would take advantage of this if the weather was nice, great view of Gray St. We were seated inside. The interior was comfortable with warm lighting. We had a few Japanese beers and ordered several rolls and sashimi. Our server Chris....I think was punctual with our drinks and food. Soft spoken guy and knew the menu well. He made sure our evening went smoothly, always refilling our water. All in all great food, nice atmosphere and servers...or at least ours was. read more

We have lived near Houston for about two years now, and so far this place is among the best sushi restaurants we have visited in Houston. As far as price goes, it is the best value we have found here. We lived on the east coast before moving here, and this is the closest in value and quality to what we had there. I have not given 5 stars to any sushi place since we left the east coast, but this one is close. Parking is tricky at best, but I haven't found it to be much different elsewhere in Houston. Our waitress, Linda was very pleasant and helpful. She was very attentive despite having many tables, and her suggestions were spot on. If you sit in her section, you are sure to be well taken care of. Tell her your likes and dislikes and she will adjust her suggestions to match your palate. We each ordered a couple of rolls. All were made well and the flavors in perfect harmony. We also ordered some nigiri. The salmon and escolar were both excellent and the rice was warm, as it should be, rather than the cold lumps that you get in many places. We live an hour away, but will definitely be back as soon as we find another excuse to drive to Midtown. read more
