Sloppy Joe (partially eaten), Jameson on the rocks, and a kool-aid pickle of in the distance.

Lovely cozy neighborhood bar frequently featuring live music/ local bands. The food menu is small but mighty. Order the sloppy Joe. I am a Sloppy Joe connoisseur, if such a thing exists... and from my heightened position... I tell you... go sloppy. Or go home.

One of my favorite (dive-ish) bars in St. John's. I remember going hete before they had a performing venue built and when the was a couple good carts located on the premises. Its pretty much a place to go to get some good drinks at a reasonable price and hang out with friends on the outdoor patio. The only bad thing (for non-smokers) is that people can smoke on the patio.

Half HH Frito pie. Huge and delish!

Having moved close to The Fixin To is both a blessing and a curse. I know when hunger strikes it is only a couple of short blocks away serving my favorite vegetarian Frito pie ($5 HH). It's pretty tough to resist it's wiles. Fritos covered in a tasty vegetarian bean chili topped by house made queso, lettuce, tomatoes, and a dollop of sour cream. Not health food, but who doesn't need a little stick-to-your-ribs comfort food from time to time? Amirite? I've read some of the reviews saying they had issues with the service, but I have had perfectly fine if not great service every time. No hipster attitude. The food comes out quickly, and all of it has been very good. My nephew loved his chili bowl, I've also tried the nachos and chicken and dumplings. The Frito pie just happens to be my favorite. The prices for food and drinks are very reasonable, especially during happy hour. They have two patios. The one in the front faces Lombard, the one in the back is a little more secluded. You are welcome to bring well behaved dogs, and smoke if you wish. I know not everyone desires to be on a patio where it's allowed, but it seems to be popular with most patrons. The inside of the bar has several booths and plenty of stools, so you aren't forced to be around it if it's not your thing. They had Bingo one night when I was there, and it looked like they were having plenty of fun. The only thing I would suggest would be air conditioning. It has been a hot summer, and holy smokes does it get hot in there! You feel like you're in a bar down south! It's not fancy or pretentious. It's wonderful as is.

Fixin To' just started brunch and we are glad they did! Vegan and Vegetarian options keep it Portland approved. Menu is Dolly Parton era themed. Great drink options. Worth your time and dollar.

Hot Toddy. Very strong and very tasty!

Stopped by here on a Friday night for a beverage with some friends. I have also been here before during one of the Music Fests in St. John's. I had a hot toddy and it was very tasty (and very strong). I really like the atmosphere here - very hipster and laid back. It looked like there were a couple of games to play, and it was busy, but not overly packed. I wasn't sure what to make of their food menu - it was intriguing, lots of Fritos and such, but nothing that I really felt like eating at the time. If you're planning on eating, I'd recommend eating beforehand, it looked like more snacky foods on their menu. However - I hear there is a pizza food cart in their parking lot that is usually open up until 10 p.m., and I have heard (haven't tried) that their pizza is delicious. From what I remember from a music fest - they have a great back patio with a fire pit, so if you're a smoker...this is probably a very good bar for you to hang out at. If we lived closer we would probably be here a lot more often.

So just know that you may have to look a little bit harder to find a spot when it's busier. It's nice though since parking is free in this area. This was a show that I'd been looking forward to for 4.5 months, since I'd bought the tickets then, and spent over $100 on them. The assaulter/woman, was seated at least two feet behind me said clearly "this woman's hair is all over in my space". Then I heard a rip and sharp pain, and my hair had been torn out. A big huge part of it, to where I was bleeding and bald in a patch. I told her she ripped out my hair, and she said "your hair was in my space; it was an accident". My husband heard this too. The staff at Alberta Rose knowing I was bleeding and hurt, gave me an ice pack and moved my husband and I outside the theater area to stools in the bar, which is outside the theater area. That's all they were willing to do. The woman who assaulted me was free to watch the show in peace. I called the police, but the staff of Alberta Rose kept reinforcing to them that the woman who assaulted me and her friends had a different story. The friends and my assaulter said my hair got caught in my seat; there was no assault. Hearing this, as well as there are no cameras in the theater, the police didn't even bother to speak with the women, or her friends. If the Alberta Rose Theater staff had brought out the assaulter, as the police had initially asked, before the staff was so dismissive, everyone would've clearly seen that the area of my hair that was pulled out, is a layered area, and it's only about a foot-long. It is impossible for it to have gotten caught in my seat. I was too upset to realize and point this out at the time. The police did get a picture of my bloody head, and were taking this situation and assault seriously prior to the staff being so dismissive. Besides the shock and pain, another reason I was so upset is that the woman who attacked me was still in the theater, behind my family, who I was no longer able to sit or be with. Even worse the staff wouldn't even let me back in to see my family after the show was done. I didn't even see the show, and the artist I hold so dearly in my heart, at all after the assault. She's literally of my favorite artists. This was my fourth show at The Alberta Rose, in so many months. I'm still in a lot of pain nearly 2 hours later. And my assaulter was just allowed to walk away. Alberta rose has been one of my favorite places in Portland. Now I'm sitting in my driveway at home in tears over what happened to me, without their keeping me safe, or defending me in any kind of way.

I traveled from Seattle to Portland by train and bus on a day trip, in order to attend the Cultura event on May 10, 2026. I bought a to-go vermicelli entree at Van Nien Temple ( https://vannienvegan.com/ ) earlier in the day. It was a Sunday and Van Nien Cafe closes down at 4pm (hours 10 - 4pm) so I planned to save the entree for my late dinner after the concert, because I did not feel hungry before going to the event. The security rejected me, telling me that 'outside food could not be brought in, you can either discard it or finish it outside' (it was not listed on your policy, and I am not the type of person that would bring outside entree to eat in a music venue). Not wanting to waste the food, I was forced to eat the entree on the street while I was not hungry. I personally feel it is quite insulting, and the venue and their security staff could have done a better job to accommodate event goers who don't have a vehicle to store the food.
