I ordered the fish over baked rice with corn cheese sauce and it was delicious! The portion of fried fish was generous and the cheese corn cream sauce was very delicious. The food is mostly Hong Kong style Chinese food and I'll be coming back to try some of the other items on the menu. Service was adequate. One of the workers wanted to enter through the side door so she banged on the window I was sitting next to in order to get the attention of another employee. This was very starling as the area is not the safest area. It was quite rude to bang on the window right next to a customer when she could've just walked to the front door. read more

Came in on a Friday for lunch and it wasn't too busy. They have a lot of options and it all sounds so yummy. I got the beef brisket soup with hand made noodles and it was really yummy! I was so full and it definitely hit the spot. My friend got the baked fish with cream corn dish and she liked it too! Will definitely be coming back here! read more

This restaurant intrigued me. I don't believe i ever had Hong Kong style inspired dishes. So to assist with my review, i had two friends join me from San Francisco to help with this review. So what did we order? 1) Lemon chicken feet: this dish is served cold. I was expecting chicken feet from a dim sum restaurant- nope. the cold chicken feet had a nice flavor but difficult to eat because the collagen and skin were not tender and just adhered to the chicken appendages- would not order again. 2) Hong Kong style french toast: this was actually not bad. it had a cheesy type of filling which was unusual but decent flavor. I would order again. 3) stir fried veggies: the veggies were over cooked and lacked flavor. would not order again. 4) baked pork chops in tomato sauce over rice: this dish was actually very good. the pork chop was tender, the sauce a little sweet and not over bearing, not cheesy, which melded fine over rice- i would order this dish again. 5) Beef chow fun: this dish doesn't have the flat noodles because they hand make their own noodles. but the noodles were tender and the beef was flavorful and tender. not bad- but my preference is the traditional beef chow fun from a cantonese chinese restaurant 6) 3 cup sauce Chicken pot: this dish arrived in a very large pot filled only a 1/3 of the pot with braised chicken pieces and veggies. the chicken pieces were not boneless, so be careful when eating this dish. pieces of chopped splintered chicken bone is the norm here. the flavor was decent, but nothing to rave about. would pass on this dish. Perhaps we don't appreciate Hong Kong Style/inspired dishes which are a fusion of chinese and american dishes? Most dishes were just ok and nothing that would encourage me to return quickly as a destination spot. would i return? perhaps to try the appetizers read more

I visited earlier for dinner and tried the Teppan sliced beef rice. It was alright but tasted like BBQ sauce. The milktea bear looked appealing but tasted like Thai tea, which was disappointing. After 3 visits to The Flame Cafe, I figured it was about time to write a review. I love this place! It is a blessing and a curse that it is located a little farther from me, otherwise, I'd be here all the time. The Flame Cafe specializes in Hong Kong and Cantonese dishes, a group of foods that I consider to be my ultimate comfort food. Some of my favorite items here are the beef chow fun, baked pork chop with tomato sauce (over rice), baked fish filet with corn sauce (over rice), baked chicken with pepper sauce (over rice), and the popcorn chicken. Their Thai iced tea is also really good and comes with a fun frozen Thai tea "ice cube" that is in the shape of a dog. I'll find any excuse to come here again. The service is always attentive and quick, and the casual but homey vibe is great for a meal with friends and family. read more

We tried dining in on a Saturday around 6:00 pm for dinner last weekend, and it was so crowded! I wish the storefront was bigger so that more people could be seated. We ended up eating somewhere else because the wait seemed long. This weekend we ordered takeout from them instead. The food was delicious! I got the baked pork chop over rice with the cream sauce. It was very good. My husband got the spicy chicken mala pot, which was even better! I will order that next time. It also came with a side of rice. They gave huge portions for both dishes. Second time here and it did not disappoint! This time I thought my experience was even better, partially because the server was so attentive to my friend's needs since she is vegetarian! The resolution was replacing the meat/seafood with fried tofu and that was almost a perfect choice. I got the seafood with cream sauce and spaghetti and thought the sauce was a little more watery than expected, but I was still satisfied. I was craving for Honk Kong cafe style cuisine. I've heard that there's a decent restaurant near 99 ranch. I decided to place an order to go for dinner. I ordered the pork chop and chicken cream sauce with rice, along with the beef fresh noodles stir fry. I was a bit disappointed, the food was just mediocre and nothing to rave about. The restaurant had no sign outside so it was a bit difficult to find. For my fellow readers, the restaurant is right in front of 99 ranch. I really like this place! Flame cafe is located right next to 99 ranch and has fire (pun intended) dishes like teppan, noodle soups, and cafe snacks like popcorn chicken, chicken wings, and tofu. Let me tell you, everything was delicious! I ordered the teppan steak and rice, Tom kha noodles, and popcorn chicken. Everything was great. I also ordered a Thai tea with a cute Thai tea dog in the cup. The servers were very attentive and nice. They always checked in on me and greeted me for my first time. Oh and the Tom yum seafood soup without the noodles. Hong Kong style French toast with condensed milk! The chicken wings, fried mushroom were delicious appetizers/snack! I don't hate but didn't love the lamb skewers... I do love lamb... the soup was great! Made with fresh lemongrass! The handmade noodle dish was my favorite. If you order the pork rice bowl, it came out late cause of the way they had to cook it, so order that ahead before other stuff. I loved the ice animals!!! Soo cute!! And you can eat it! ABSOLUTE 5 stars. This place was amazing. The service was unreal. My boyfriend and I went in on a Tuesday evening an hour before close. When the server saw that I was shivering from the cold AC, she instantly turned it down without even asking and brought me over some warm water. It was the kindest gesture! As for the ambiance, it's super cute and modern inside with comfortable booth seating and nice natural light. It made us feel comfortable instantly. The FOOD was insane. The portions first of all are huge. You can't tell from the photo, but the chicken pot alone would've been enough for both of us - and we like to EAT. The chicken was my favorite - so soft and savory, and perfect with rice. The beef soup was also amazing, although the noodles were a tiny bit soft by the time they brought it out. But, the amount of beef and veggies as well as the flavorful broth definitely compensated. Overall, we 10000% will be back. Probably this weekend:) have to try everything on the menu at this place. I cannot believe it took me so long to discover this place. This place just hits home for me! I am so glad I've found a Chinese cafe with the food I grew up eating. I ordered a seafood baked rice, mala chicken, and cucumber salad. The baked rice had meaty pieces of seafood. The cheesy sauce and rice is a yummy bite together. The mala chicken was fun to eat because of the pepper that makes your tongue tingle. The cucumber salad was a nice side to have to add something fresh with the meal. Service was quick and brief. I've walked past this restaurant multiple times as I shop at 99 Ranch Market all the time. The waitress was extremely friendly and seated us immediately. I asked if they were able to make any of the baked rice plates vegetarian and she gladly offered to substitute the protein with baked tofu. I got the baked tofu with corn cream sauce and fried rice. Portions were huge and can easily be shared between 2 people. The baked tofu was so tender and the sauce was flavorful! The fried rice was perfectly seasoned and delicious. I could not resist from ordering the milk tea with a bear since it looked so cute! The bear tasted like iced cola which surprisingly did not melt into my drink. Milk tea was good and the iced bear was so adorable! Would definitely be back soon! read more

What a great addition to the collection to the growing number of Asian restaurants in South Sac! Where many other restaurants fall short like in cleanliness, innovation, and price - the Flame Cafe exceeds expectations and passes on those criteria with flying colors. Having not really had other the style of Hong Kong food that Flame Cafe specializes in, the plethora of baked seafood and pasta options was very interesting to me. Although those tastes aren't super foreign to me by any means, Flame Cafe's take on it was different. The pasta wasn't overly salty and the baked cheese on top really added to the body of the meal. The salmon was and other various seafood was also tasty. Just beware it does make for a very heavy meal so expect to have some leftovers if you can't finish on your own. The teppan steak meal was surprisingly good too. I don't really expect too much from Chinese steak but this one didn't really disappoint. It was juicy and the sauce really added to the overall taste of the dish. Maybe after I'm done trying more of their expansive menu I might think about ordering it again. For dessert, how can you go wrong with Hong Kong style French toast! The bread was pillowy on the inside but had a nice crunchy exterior. Overall, I'd highly recommend coming to try Flame Cafe and especially for the price - you really can't go wrong! read more

Fried Tofu is like a desert! Very nice. Ordered the #805? Spare Ribs with noodles. I am thinking ribs a couple inches long with some actual meat on them.... Received RICE with little bits of cartilage with some bits of meat on them; something a squirrel could nibble on. NOT happy. Came here on a Saturday afternoon after we saw the bear drinks. The restaurant had great decor and was very lively. The food was flavorful and the servers were very attentive. I'd recommend anyone to try the Baked Prawn dish if you like a creamy spaghetti, or the Teppon steak if you like a nice sizzling hot plate. Both entrees were great with nice portion sizes. Came back again because we really wanted to try their other foods. We came around 11am and there was a long line already. Parking was easy. The waitress welcomed us and again was really nice. She was super helpful and kind. We ordered the beef brisket noodle soup (it was recommended by the waitress). The beef brisket noodle soup was one of the best I ate and the portion was big.
