Stopped in hour before closing on Sunday. It wasn't busy. Jimmy was our server. We tried different dishes on this visit. My son tried the milk lava French toast. I ordered the three cup sauce chicken pot and Singapore Laksa noodle soup. My husband had the Teppan steak set. We finished the noodle soup. It had the perfect amount of spice with shrimp, fish and fish balls. Chicken pot was very flavorful. Jimmy said it was the most popular of the chicken pot options. Steak was good as well. My son liked the French toast a lot. When asked about the filling, Jimmy said that it was a secret recipe. Of course! Food was delicious and came out fast. Service was excellent. Very attentive! Will be back.
The dog and bear ice were cute and a nice one time experience for a good Yelp picture. But, it was not easy to eat nor did it really taste like anything. The teppan set was delicious with just the right amount of seasoning. I loved that the skillet was hot enough to make some of the rice crispy. I've been to Singapore and I was totally missing Laksa and theirs hit the spot. The sparkling Mango soda was very refreshing and would be a great option for the summer. The restaurant is literally in front of 99 Ranch, not off to one side. That three me off when I was looking for it. It is fairly small but people are in and out so there was no wait while I was there. I had the calamari starter which was okay and nothing special. For my main I had the pork chop with tomato sauce and cheese over rice. The rice is actually a fried rice and was pretty good by itself. The pork chop is tender and flavorful but there's not enough compared to the amount of rice served...good thing the rice was good by itself. I also tried my friend's fried rice and it was very good but again nothing out of the ordinary. What tickled me was my Thai ice tea with a "dog" ice. It looked more like a kitten to me but still cute. The ice tea was tasty too so bonus.
This cafe is right next to (connected to) 99 Ranch. From the outside, it doesnt look like anything special but what got me here were Yelp reviews and I was not disappointed. The handmade noodles were delicious with the right amount of chewyness and the sauce was perfect. I do prefer spice so asked for chili sauce and what they gave me was super spicy! I think next time I am in thr area, I will come by to try their desserts! The popcorn chicken was perfect as well. Do not sit on this place and go eat there.
There was no wait when we came in for lunch on Saturday. [[HIGHLIGHT]]But it was almost all full.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Service was quick and efficient. Lots of options on the menu. All the food came out and it was delicious. Fried foods were perfect and crucnhy. Sizzling dishes had great flavor. Skewers were perfectly cooked. Portions were generous, we had lots of leftovers! The beverages were super cute, although on the sweeter side.
Conveniently located next to Ranch 99, Flame Cafe offers a variety of Hong Kong cafe staples. We had no trouble quickly getting a table when we came before noon, but I've seen lines before during the lunch rush. I ordered the toast, curry beef brisket, baked pork chop with rice, and baked fish fillet with cream sauce. The portions are ample, and the taste is decent. Nothing that will knock your socks off but enough to satisfy that HK food craving.
Flame Cafe has a great, cozy atmosphere, totally giving homey vibes with all the cute decorations everywhere. Festive LED lights brightening the rom while calm songs playing in the background.. just great! I ordered the Beef chow fun and pork chop baked rice. The pork chop baked rice is authentic, specially because the rice underneath is fried rice and not basic white rice. One thing to add is that there isn't enough sauce. Sauce gave the traditional cha chaan teng flavor though. The beef chow fun serving is kind of small, and the beef is kind of chewy. Staff is attentive, good experience overall.
The Vibe: Cha Chaan Teng chic. The Strategy: Eat first, regret nothing later. My Therapist Recommended This (Okay, I recommended it to myself) Forget yoga. Forget meditation apps. If you are having a bad week, the cure is sitting right here in this classic hk dish. I call this the "Emotional Support Combo". The Baked Pork Chop Rice: It's basically a warm hug made of cheese and tomato sauce. The pork is tender, the rice is fluffy, and the sauce is tangy enough to make you forget your problems. The Milk Tea: Silky smooth and served in that iconic Black & White cup. It calms the soul while simultaneously waking up the brain. The staff here are basically the care team--they saw my empty water glass and refilled it before I even asked. Total cost: Way less than a co-pay. Side effects: Extreme happiness and a full belly. Absolute comfort food heaven. My diet starts tomorrow (maybe).
I always enjoy coming here when I can for a Hong Kong style meal and it always fulfill a craving! It does get pretty crowded over the weekends but we were still able to get a pretty large group in! The service is pretty good overall and I did feel like it was pretty efficient! There's a large parking lot outside that it shares with 99 ranch but you're able to find somewhere to park!
This place is located right in front of 99 Ranch. The vibe is nice. They have cool decor like bear bricks. I only tried their Baked Seafood with rice and it was amazing! It had fish, calamari, and shrimp in it. Everything had the perfect mix and texture. Pro tip: ask for hot sauce and it takes it to the next level. The food came out quick and it was served fresh and hot! Service was great also. It filled me up but I wanted to keep eating because it was so good. I will definitely come back to try other items. If you've never been to Hong Kong, eating here will give you a glimpse of their amazing food. It's that authentic.
Came here for lunch and got the Thai tea with dog! It's so cute! But somehow it's not a dog but a bear!! Got the beef brisket noodle and chicken steak teppan . they sizzle in front of you which did splash on us a little. So sit further away! The beef brisket was not as tender as I'd like. The noodle was a bit too soggy. The chicken steak teppan was good. Huge bowl of rice. If you should your yelp, you get a lemon ice tea and it came with the dog!! The price is very affordable compared to the Bay Area. Will definitely come back to try other things if in the area.
好食，抵食 Pork chop in tomato sauce was one of my fav take out items from 大家樂 when i was at school. The pork chop here brought back so many fond memories. We ordered the seafood in cheese cream sauce as well, and some garlic chicken wings. I think both baked rice items are spot on and quite a bargain. The chicken wings are also pretty good, relatively less good value. The service was perfect, and the place is cleaner and more spacious than a typical HK 茶餐廳
Came here on a pleasant Sunday afternoon and was seated right away--no wait at all. There were four of us, but since we weren't too hungry, we decided to share two entrées and one appetizer: the curry fishballs, beef sizzling plate, and creamy seafood baked pasta. The sizzling plate was nicely presented and mixed tableside by the server, though I didn't try it myself since I don't eat red meat. The curry fishballs arrived hot and flavorful--not overly salty, but nothing particularly standout either. My favorite by far was the baked seafood pasta. The seafood tasted fresh (which I'd expect given they're attached to an Asian grocery store!) and the cream-to-pasta ratio was spot on. I also appreciated that none of the dishes were overly salty. The interior felt clean and modern. While the restaurant is on the smaller side, it still managed to feel cozy without feeling cramped. Overall, I'd definitely return to try more of their dishes! :)

This was my very first visit to flame cafe as I had a craving for Hong Kong style French toast! I had attempted to come here before but the wait time was so long we went to another spot. This time we arrived on a weekday right when it opened and thankfully many available seats were open so we were seated right away. As usual I go on Yelp to check out reviews and pictures and so I literally ordered what I wanted to try from the Yelp reviews! I ordered the milk tea with the teddy bear because it was so cute, the Hong Kong style French toast to satisfy my cravings, the Singapore laksa noodle soup as it's something I've never tried before and the 3 cup sauce chicken pot, knowing we would have plenty to pack leftovers to take home. The restaurant is super cute and clean! We sat in a booth and seats were super comfy. I had just traveled from Asia a few weeks ago so the aesthetics of the restaurant reminded me of cafes I had seen in Thailand and Korea. The food came out quickly and everything was so good! I enjoyed every bit of it and so did my hubby. My only qualm with the 3 cup sauce chicken pot was that the chicken pcs seemed to be more bones than meat. The flavor was amazing but each bite was more chicken bone than chicken meat. Not sure if it's meant to be that way, but it was exhausting trying to chew the few pieces of meat off each bone LOL! I would definitely be coming back as I would love to try some of the other dishes. Prices were reasonable for the portion size. Food came out fast and piping hot! The place is not too big so keep that in mind if you are coming with a large group and definitely expect to wait on the weekends. I came here after it was recommended to me by a couple co-workers and was really looking forward to trying a local Asian breakfast spot. One of the first things you will notice in this diner-style HK breakfast spot is that the booth seating is spaced uncomfortably far apart, to the point where multiple diners, including myself, were forced to sit on the same side as our companions to share our meal without extensive reaching. As an OC native, I was immediately drawn to the sizzling teppan steak set because of its visual similarity to Pepper Lunch back home. We also ordered the spaghetti prawn in black truffle and Hong Kong style french toast. With these three dishes, I felt that we sampled a decent variety of what they had to offer and have to say that the food was disappointingly bland and lacking in flavor. -- Teppan Steak (2/5): criminally under-seasoned meat that tasted nothing like the juicy, bursting-with-flavor bites that I'm used to when steak is prepared Asian-style. as someone notorious for thinking that everything is over-seasoned, it takes a lot for me to feel that a dish needs more salt, but they managed to accomplish that here. the accompanying veggies were just there and did absolutely nothing to interact with or enhance the main entree. -- Spaghetti Prawn in Black Truffle Sauce (2/5): maybe I'm just not used to HK-style spaghetti but the tomato sauce tasted watered down and was also drastically lacking in flavor, without the slightest hint of black truffle whatsoever. prawns were admittedly decent and the only saving grace of this dish, which was overall mid at best -- Hong Kong-style French Toast (3/5): i'm definitely a savory over sweet bfast person so was surprised to find that this was our favorite dish of the morning. stuffed with peanut butter and topped with butter and syrup, this was the only one perhaps worth coming in for, though it could have been enhanced by condensed milk drizzle the way i've seen it served at other places Overall I was quite surprised by the numerous 5 star reviews lauding the authenticity of these dishes, which made me wonder whether HK-style food just isn't my cup of tea...? However, as another reviewer pointed out, they do offer a free lemon tea with Yelp review which could potentially be artificially driving up their ratings. Personally, the food and ambiance weren't up my alley and I wouldn't recommend Flame Cafe, unless you are having a highly specific craving that could only be satisfied by this particular genre of food. read more

Seriously want to come back here because it smells so delicious inside. We unfortunately came just to try out a drink that had a very different touch which was a milk tea iced bear. There were a few options to order it and saw a different type of iced dog I believe which I think was matcha. The drink was yummy as well. They are pretty full seems always but even for a small place it didn't seem like there was a wait to sit down. I can't wait to come back and try the food here. Already knowing it must be delicious because it just smelled so good making me want to come back for more. I made my drink a coffee type but my mini me ate the head of the ice bear. I told her to leave the other part coz it seems to give more flavor to my coffee. For sure getting this again on my next visit. read more

The service is exceptionally friendly, the atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and the food is truly authentic Hong Kong-style. It's the perfect stop on the way back from a day of skiing--hot noodle soups are just what you need to recharge after a long day, and the desserts are highly recommended as well. read more

The entrance is slightly tucked away, next to 99 Ranch. (The entrance is on the left of the structure, when facing towards the building). We arrived about an hour before closing and they were quite busy. Service was good overall. I ordered the Beef Brisket Tomyum Noodle Soup (#503). The beef had too much tendon for my preference, with very little lean-cut meat. However, I enjoyed the flavor of the broth and appreciated the amount of veggies included in the soup. Even though this particular item wasn't best suited for my tastes, I would definitely return to try other menu items. Good portion sizes too! read more

Our server was friendly and he was great at multi-tasking. Looked like they were a bit understaffed at that time. Thai Tea w Dog was 10/10 (so cute) Beef Chow Fun was very tasty, just wish it had more pieces of beef. Baked Prawns with Tom Yum Cream Sauce: I got it with spaghetti, I loved the sauce but a bit disappointed only came with 4 prawns and very little pieces of bell pepper. Cantonese cafe with many options on their menu. My favorite order there is the teppan sliced beef rice. It comes on a hot plate with slices of beef, corn, rice, and sauce. Food was amazing. We ordered the beef brisket noodle soup, steak teppon, blue lychee soda, and the honey ginger slush with coke. Everything was a 10/10. The beef brisket soup with chewy and bouncy rice noodles flavor was absolutely great and the beef chunks were tender. The steak teppon set was perfectly seasoned, not too salty or saucy. The crunchy scorched rice was a good texture element. The blue lychee soda was subtly sweet and the lychee flavor wasn't overpowering. The honey ginger coke was very gingery and refreshing. I was VERY impressed with just about every aspect of The Flame Cafe. This Hong Kong style cafe serves up delicious drinks, brick toast, baked rice/spaghetti, and more! One of my favorite things at The Flame Cafe has got to be the drinks. The Hong Kong milk tea, Thai tea, and red bean drinks all come with a cute ice sculpture of either a dog or a bear. It looks amazing and makes for a really fun photo op - not to mention it makes the eating experience more fun. I found the food to be exactly how I expected it should be at a Hong Kong cafe. It was authentic and also delicious. I ordered the beef chow fun and the flavor was on-point. The noodles did not stick together and the veggies and beef tasted very fresh. Though there were many people during our visit, the server we had was pleasant and attentive. She got us everything we needed and checked up on us. She offered up boxes and bags when we were ready for them and was outstanding. As for the interior, it is very clean and modern looking. I found the whole experience to be above standard. Went here after a 10k run to celebrate with an iced tea with bear; popcorn chicken, and fried mushroom (all sooo good). I actually had no idea this place was right next to Ranch 99. Definitely a locals kind of place but worth it if you have a chance to. Service can be a bit slow but food comes out fast, pack a bit of patience. read more

The flame cafe really wow'ed us with good flavor and excellent service! We had the cutest, most adorable bear in our Hong Kong style milk tea! The tea (102) is flown in especially from HK so it's very authentic. The spicy cucumber appetizer was crunchy and not too salty. We also ordered the baked seafood with cream cheese spaghetti (411), which was delightfully creamy and satisfying. Definitely would come back! read more

Food was filling and flavorful, with a massive variety for anyone to choose from! I'd recommend the braised pork spaghetti with five spice punch and the beef teppan with sweet soy sauce for a charred taste. As for desserts, the classic hong kong toast is always a crowd pleaser, but the sesame milk mochi is a sleeper hit with a strong milky taste, thick mouth feel and nutty complexion. Service was a bit slow, but this is a small restaurant so there's no real rush. It feels cozy and simple, a perfect place to go after shopping at the nearby 99 ranch. Overall I loved my experience here and would gladly come back! read more

Been wanting to try this place out for years. Finally I worked near the restaurant & decided to take advantage of the opportunity. I ordered that Teppan beef plate, it came out sizzling good. The Milk tea with the bear was also yummy & super cute. I would have given this a 5 star if the server came to check on me & she forgot to bring me sauces. I had to ask for it again. Other than that, food was amazing. They have so many options to choose from. I'll be returning to try out other dishes. read more

Came here with a friend to catch up and try some place new. The Flame Cafe, located adjacent to 99 Ranch, serves up Hong Kong cafe comfort food. The inside is cute, as if you've entered a close friend's comfy new apartment - trendy decor, wood accent, natural light, etc. I liked that the booth we sat in had a drawer full of napkins/utensils so we can easily grab them without flagging down a waiter. We ordered A LOT of food just to try: - Red bean milk tea with doggie ice - HK milk tea with bear ice - Teppan beef - Beef brisket noodle soup - Prawn in creamy tom yum sauce spaghetti - Fried mushroom - We also ordered the chicken wings and a teppan steak to-go My prawn spaghetti was so good; creamy with a bit of tang from the tom yum. The beef brisket noodle soup was super salty, and my friend ended up not finishing the noodles (but the brisket itself was super tender so she ate all the toppings). The teppan beef was like a Pepper Lunch plate with less seasoning. Our drinks were freakin' cute and tasted great. Service was quick, and we received our food just as quickly. Highly recommend stopping here for a bite, especially after doing your grocery shopping just next door. read more

Flame Cafe is a Hong Kong style cafe that has been around for years in the Ranch 99 plaza, right in front of Ranch 99 and somehow I didn't know about it till recently. Since learning about it a couple weeks ago, I've already been here twice, it's just that good! I've tried the garlic chicken wings, popcorn chicken, Singapore Laksa noodle soup, and the prawn in black truffle cream sauce pasta. Popcorn chicken and the garlic wings are both cooked to perfection - perfectly crispy outside, flavorful, and has juicy meat on the inside. Singapore laksa noodles are different than the type of noodles I'd normally eat, but I'm a huge fan of this. To describe it as best as I can, the broth is almost like a very light kapoon (curry coconut milk noodle soup) flavor mixed with a bone broth of some sort, and they come with ramen-like eggs, chicken, fishballs, and fried tofu. It's flavored just right, and the chicken is cooked right and is tender. Highly recommend this noodle soup to anyone who's craving noodle soup or can't decide what to get here. Baked pork chop in tomato sauce is a classic and delicious here. The pork chop is cooked well and not dry and the sauce is both creamy and flavorful, and not salty compared to most tomato sauces. Prawn in black truffle cream sauce has the truffle aroma the second it hits your table. It almost reminds me of a light Alfredo sauce with truffle in it. The service is great here. The staff are friendly and always checking in. The restaurant is spacious, and has about 14 tables to accommodate 4 people in each with a couple tables in the front that can be combined for groups of 8. I highly recommend checking out Flame Cafe if you've never been here before and/or trying the dishes I have for those who have been here. read more
