We came to the Flipside Cafe for brunch around 1PM. We tried to call in our table ahead of time but you can only put your name down for a table in person, so we were given a wait time of 40 minutes when we arrived. However, we were seated in about 15-20 minutes. The restaurant is super crowded and tables are very close together. While everyone is required to wear masks, it is kind of difficult to social distance in such a small restaurant. I ordered the Flipside BLT and the cinnamon crunch waffle. The food came out extremely fast and piping hot. The BLT was incredible!!! Toasted sourdough bread, crispy bacon, tangy tomatoes, spicy arugula, and creamy mayo to bring it all together. The sandwich was delicious and came with a side of mixed fruit. The waffle also came with a side of fruit and was covered in cinnamon toast crunch cereal, granola, bananas, and a sticky, spicy syrup/glaze. It had the perfect amount of spice and sweetness and reminded me of fall flavors. The roasted banana pieces were my favorite. We also had a side of crispy potatoes which was delicious with their homemade ranch. The wait is definitely worth coming here. Food was great and very filling. Yum yum yum.. what can I say... the shrimp and grits at The Flipside cafe was amazeball!! The vegetables, the grits, the shrimp were all seasoned to perfection. I appreciated the fact that they observed and enforced strict Covid guidelines. Every server and bartender had masks on. My friend order eggs, bacon and a biscuit and said that the biscuit was buttery and yummy. If you're ever in the area I suggest to check out this breakfast place. It's cute inside like a classy diner mixed with a coffee house feel. Don't skip this place. Wow! The food and dessert are amazing! The service was friendly and helpful with her suggestion on the mushrooms ravioli. The ravioli was cooked perfectly. The cream was rich with flavor, plus mushrooms, red peppers, and spinach. When visiting family in the area for Thanksgiving, we were looking for some place to eat the night before. This topped the list and I was told it was some of the best food that could compete with NYC and other large cities. My brother said they usually go on Sunday for the brunches that are crowded, so we called to see if we could get a reservation. They were not crowded and we sat down with 8 people. Started off with a hazy pale ale to go with the crab cakes and truffle fries. These crab cakes stand up to the ones I have tried in Maryland. For my dinner, I went with the Lockport NY Beef on Weck that was on a small bun, but came with a punch from the horseradish and a side of greens (one thing I miss about living in the South!). If you are not into greens, get the sweet potato fries that have a sweet brown sugar taste. Everyone at the table enjoyed their meals and we had enough to take home to other family members that did not join us. It is some of the best food and I highly recommend this place if you are in the area. Don't be turned off by the strip mall feel, because you will be surprised with excellent food and service that is Southernly. read more

This is my second visit to Flipside Cafe. The first time ended with a guy driving his car literally through the restaurant. Needless to say, a review was insignificant to the shock and worry for the people who were hurt from the event. This visit was much safer. We made a reservation for a certain number of guest but unbeknownst to the reserving party, the party got larger and larger. Most of the staff and management were so nice and accommodating, as some of our party went to the wrong Flipside (Rock Hill) and had to travel to Fort Mill. So there was a delay in our ordering. The menu was a great variety of vegetarian and non vegetarian options, sweet, savory, light meals and heavier, more hearty meals. It was a great selection that was not overwhelming but definitely not limited. I ordered the lobster omelet without the bacon, fruit and grits. He ordered some sort of bowl that contained potatoes, green onions, peppers, goat cheese, mushrooms and scrambled egg, truffle potato hash. My sister ordered steak (medium) and potatoes. All of our dishes were delicious. The lobster omelet was not skimpy on the lobster. Every bite contained lobster. The bowl he had was amazing. All the flavors came together so well. It was definitely a comfort dish and the goat cheese made the dish. My sisters steak was cooked correctly and seasoned very well, my fork landed in her plate a lot. They have a great mixed drink menu and friendly staff. I appreciate the hospitality, which is what gives this place a full five stars. They were very accommodating about the changing number of guest and the delay in our ordering. This was a group from three states that have not seen each other in a while. Although they were crowded, they didn't make us feel rushed, they allowed for a nice dining experience. I would definitely go again! read more

I don't know if I've had ever had such a large serving if avocado toast! I went to Flipside Cafe with my fiancé and a couple of friends and I was pleasantly surprised. It is pretty small inside but from the moment we walked in we were warmly greeted by both hostess. Our waitress was great, making sure that we all had what we needed. There was 8 people in our party, 6 adults and 2 kids, and she tackled our orders like a pro. The food came out relatively quickly and was great. I got one of their avocado toast, there were about 3-4, I can't remember the name of mine but it was great with a side of potatoes. My fiancé got the chicken and waffles with grits. The food was great but what really stood out to me was the hibiscus mimosa, ugh it was a 12/10. Well this was one of my most interesting meals! I ordered the French toast and went to wash my hands before I ate. During the washing of the hands, my wedding band fell off my hand and went down the drain! The staff managed to fish it out for me! WHEW! Now to the food: the French toast came stuffed with pecans and chocolate. I'm not a big chocolate fan, so I scooped the filling out and ate the rest. It was pretty good. Visited this place numerous times and it's always been a test experience but this past Sunday may have been the best. Had family in town so decided to come here for brunch. The wait was about 30 mins which is not surprising considering how good the food is but how small the restaurant is. We went to Carmella's next door and the group got drinks while we waited. We were a party of 7 and they were able to accommodate us w/in 30 mins. Haleigh was our waitress and she was nothing short of amazing. Her personality was perfect for our group and she understood the sense of humor of the men which of course they loved. She made excellent suggestions on food and drinks and apparently did a good job at surprising some folks with selected ipa beers. She always helped us with a smile and made sure we were 100% satisfied. Today I had the streak & eggs which came with the potatoes and a blueberry pancake on the side. My husband got the biscuit bake. It was all delicious but the potatoes were definitely the best thing for me! I just love their potatoes. Their crispy, seasoned well and not dry on the inside! Prior to today I've had their shrimp & grits which are good but I've definitely had better-the sauce is a bit thin and watery, their grits and Brussels which are amazing and the crab sandwich was also good. Once again Yelp comes in clutch, my partner found TFC since I wanted a nice filling breakfast to start my day off. Not to far from where we live so a quick skip and a hop and we were there. We walk through the door and immediately greeted with a smile and kind words then walked to our table. Our waiter which I don't recall his name (shame on me) came to greet us and brought water. We started our order off with me saying "Mimosa please" and then we find out through our amazing server that they have flights and multiple flavored mimosas. I wanna say it was for my birthday haha but I'm not that jaded (maybe lol). I stick with my traditional and my partner ordered the flights which they were very well made and tasty. We then ordered (4) orders of the steak and eggs. No I'm serious we ordered 4 of the steaks and eggs since we wanted more steak and we were hungry and it was my birthday lol. Our amazing waiter got a suggestion from the kitchen that they would give us the steak from their dinner menu and all was well. If we had to be critical about anything our steak was slightly above medium more like medium slightly well but steak was still extremely flavorful and still medium enough. I came here for brunch on my birthday weekend and it was everything I wanted and more. The mimosas were the absolute best. It was like a cup of champagne with a shot of orange juice. The food was beyond delicious. I ordered a Pastrami Rueben. I've had these at other places because I enjoy a regular Rueben with sauerkraut and dressing. The slices were thick and manageable to eat. They use Dukes mayonnaise to give it a little kick. It come with crunchy fries. The sandwiches are large so you can take the other half home and reheat it. The ambience is cozy. The staff is always alert to your needs. I respect an establishment where the manager comes to your table and asks questions. We went on a weekend morning to Flipside Cafe and were greeted with a long line of individuals waiting to get a table. Normally I'm not a fan of waiting to eat, but hearing all the guest talk about the food in line got me excited. Once checked in we waited for about 45 minutes before being seated. It's a small little cafe with big flavor and amazing smells coming from the kitchen. By time we got in we were very hungry so we each ordered two main courses for brunch. My order included the Banana Walnut Pancakes with a side of fruit and The Flipside Breakfast which were both equally amazing. I will say the portion to price are pre item are spot on as I really didn't think I'd be be able to finish the meal. Wow! I am not from South Carolina and I'm not sure what the standard is, but this wonderful cafe has set the bar high. I had the pecan crusted trout with peach chutney that was a perfectly balanced dish. The trout seasoning was perfectly balanced with the sweet peach chutney on top. It came with creamy/cheesy risotto and perfectly cooked asparagus. I cleaned the plate off. The pecan pie comes a la mode and with chocolate syrup. I could do without the syrup but the pie was not like any pecan pie I have had before. Still thinking about it hours later :-) Hope I get to come back. By the way, my server and all the staff were so friendly and sweet. They knew half the guests in the restaurant and their preferences already and talked to people by their first name. We said we will be there in 10 mins but they refused and assigned table to someone else. They put us in waiting list with 25-40 min wait now!!! How rude? There time is valuable but customer's is not. Holy Flipside Cafe! What is it with some of the best restaurants in the CLT area being in hidden strip shopping centers? And in this case don't even face the primary entrance highway. Flipside Cafe is a breakfast - brunch - lunch spot. That I guess serves dinner as well, but I have never visited after noon. There may be a bit of a wait on the weekends, but unlike some other S.CLT spots this one actually worth it. The owners have been visible and available on almost everyone of our visits (side note - this is a big deal). Last note, the shrimp and grits (pictured) is a must try. read more

This was a fantastic find and one that comes highly recommended. It seems that there is also a restaurant location that looks less casual. This location in a strip mall was easy to get to with plenty of parking. They have gender neutral restrooms, which is a hidden piece of hospitality for some. The hospitality of Flipside Cafe seems to be the center of their focus and it comes out in their food. The sloppy joe is so full of flavor with a plentiful portion. The BLT came out on perfectly toasted bread, that almost dissolved as it was bitten into. Truly memorable. Also memorable are the mashed potatoes, those are dangerous good. I am going to try The Flipside Cafe again soon ad hopefully they will live up to the four stars. My husband and I came here from lunch and could tell they were not having the best day. They seemed to be short staffed, the waiter/bartender seemed crazy busy, and there was a customer complaining and being a pain. So I totally give them the benefit of the doubt and forgive the semi slow service. The drinks were pretty good and my husband said his burger was good. I had the avocado pull apart bread and found it lacking. I don't like whatever they added or mixed into the avocado and would much rather have just pure avocado. I hate to do this to what used to be my favorite restaurant but they earned this 1 star rating today. I entered the restaurant and sat at the bar as I usually do. The bartender, Geri (she is the best) took 5 orders at the same time. The 2 couples, one each to the right and left of me along with my order. The wait for food was longer than usual, at least for the 2 couples. Unfortunately, my order never came. The couples consumed and paid for their meals and mine had yet to be served. Inquiring I was told there was but one order ahead of mine and it would soon be out. Seems there were many, many orders ahead of mine and that orders weren't being processed in the order they were received. I work in this industry. I know the challenges facing restaurnteurs these days and I am more than empathetic. But one has to speak up when execution is less than acceptable. The challenge is now to Flipside to improve on service. read more
