Patient, had answers to all our questions, made a great suggestion on some Ilegal mezcal. Food was amazing. Came out quickly and had great flavor. Make sure you order dessert first because you can take the entree leftovers home. Place was busy but it was easy to have a conversation with everyone at the table. The worst dining experience in my 70 years. A waitress never came until we were there for 20 minutes. And then she shows up with water, apologizing for a wait, and insisting she'd be back to take our drink water. 15 minutes later she shows up again takes our entire order and 20 minutes later our food shows up. No drinks until we're 3/4 of the way through our meal. She claimed that the bar was backed up. That seemed odd to us as we were six feet away from the bar and there were only three people there. My husband and I came in for a late lunch and we were not disappointed! First impression was great. The decor is eclectic and the restaurant and bar are gorgeous. The service was very good and quick. We got the chips and dip trio for an appetizer and I ordered a shrimp taco and an Al pastor taco and my husband ordered the grilled poblano dinner. My husband had a margarita and I got the dessert drink. All of the food was fantastic and fresh. Everything was well seasoned and incredibly flavorful. Drinks were delicious as well. Parking: This location has very few spots for street parking, but since it's Bellefontaine I don't see parking ever being an issue. IF, the street parking is all taken, then there is Free public parking right across the street. Host stand: The hosts were young and seemed a little confused. They asked where we wanted to sit, then said we couldn't sit there, but choose somewhere else.. as I said, they were confused, not a great first impression. Server: Our server was Eric, he was very professional. He got our orders correct, checked on us a good amount of times to make sure our food was perfect and he made sure our drinks never ran out. Food: After we ordered, it only took about 10 minutes for our meals to be served. We both enjoyed our meals. Everything tasted fresh and cooked well. The only area we felt like could use improvement about the food, was the queso and salsa, those tasted good, but could be thicker. Bathrooms: They were clean and sufficient. I stopped in just before 4:00 pm on a weekday for an early supper. The place is super clean and cozy, with a large inside dining area, and a big street-facing patio. I hit the place between lunch and dinner when many restaurants have service issues, but The Flying Pepper folks took very good care of me. I had a half-price app from the happy hour menu - chips and house made guacamole, and it was very good. I then tried three of the street tacos. I went with roasted pork, grilled chicken, and steak. They were all fantastic, with fresh ingredients and great flavor. Simple, yet wonderful. Three was plenty for me, and I can see my wife being happy with two. We live an hour away, but I'll definitely be taking her there for dinner. A solid five! read more

We've enjoyed many authentic Mexican dinners at The Flying Pepper Cantina and also their food truck. Decided to try the new brunch offering this weekend. We were not disappointed. Very nice but simple selections and as always, fresh and flavorful. We each had good, local craft beers. I tried the huevos con chorizo (eggs and chorizo) served with rice, beans, and plenty of corn tortillas. My better half ordered the Beto quesadilla. All the Beto items are a mixtures of chorizo, eggs, and potatoes. We both used the delicious hot tomatillo sauce. Delicious food and such an inviting and energetic environment. read more

First off, the pricing at this establishment is ridiculous for what you get. second, I had to send my food back two times before they got it right and the moment I walked by their kitchen it smelled like someone was boiling dirty diapers. We left before eating because the service here is horrible. The only redeeming quality was the drinks we got but those were also insanely overpriced. One of my friends suggested we try this place and we were in the area, so we gave it a shot. The atmosphere of the restaurant is bright and modern, which we loved. We ordered the dip trio and chips as an app. The guacamole was the star of the show. We thought the cheese dip was good. The salsa, was bland. They don't have a kids menu, so our 7 year old ordered the quesadilla with shredded chicken. I tried her quesadilla and was very underwhelmed at $12. It came with zero sides and seemed like the shredded chicken had been sitting in juice that wasn't strained off, so her quesadilla was wet. I ordered the torta ($14 - also includes no side dishes) and while it was good... the best part of it was the bread that is not made in house, but from another local shop. My husband got the grilled poblano dinner with shrimp (was about $20 for the full order) and his came with tortillas and side dishes plus a TON of shrimp. He was impressed and said his meal was delicious and worth the money. Our waitress was not overly friendly. She did offer to get us extra chips a few times and offered us refills, but didn't bother to have any type of conversation outside of that. Another waitress working sparked up a conversation with our kid, which was nice. Overall, I'm not sure if we'd return. It's great to see small towns get restaurant options like this and while I don't have any real complaints having gone to many Mexican restaurants over the years, this one was just okay. First impressions: VERY bright. The restaurant decor is great but is ruined by how bright it is. They have a lighting element on the ceiling that I don't know if they can dim or only have half of them on but with all of them on it make the place look like a high school cafeteria. If it was much dimmer it would be much nicer. The two guys at the front were incredibly nice and professional. I was super impressed. We got sat immediately which was a nice surprise on a Saturday night. We ordered the dip trio which seems very popular. The cheese dip was fine but nothing spectacular. The guacamole was the standout here. The drinks were disappointing size wise for the cost. And my margarita was very sour (I've had LOTS of margaritas) Don't know if they use a mix or not but something is needed to cut the tartness. Maybe more tequilla? Because it wasn't strong at all. I got the nachos. I like the idea that you have an option of half or full order for many of the items. The nachos were fine but nothing spectacular. Upon entering the restaurant I noticed the chic seating and decor. We were quickly greeted and provided a table on the patio as per our request. My husband and I LOVE coming to The Flying Pepper Cantina! Everything is always so delicious and the staff is super friendly and helpful! On this particular occasion I was wanting to try Mezcal for the very first time. Our waitress, Summer and myself came up with the idea to try a Guava Mezcal Margarita. Summer, our waitress had heard from the bartender(s) that they recommend pairing Mezcal with a sweeter fruit when trying it for the first time but I didn't want it to be too sweet. Stopped in today for lunch and discovered a true gem. We were seated by a very friendly server right away. Immediately after the place became very busy. The servers worked like a well-oiled machine attending to guests, filling drinks, delivering appetizers and meals. Our table ordered the trio of dips, which seemed to be a very popular item. It was salsa, guacamole, and queso that we topped with chorizo (highly recommend) and, of course, chips. It was so satisfying. Our party included my very old school 80 year old Mother. She ordered and loved the Burrito bowl pork carnitas. My sister had the shrimp and veggies and said it was fantastic. I had the grilled pompano pepper chicken and bacon plate and it was divine. Nice place. Good atmosphere and decor. Full bar, bar area are great for two. Employees are friendly and helpful. It's located right in the heart of Bellafontain. Lots of parking available in the are. The food is excellent from the flavors to the presentation. A favorite is the chips and salsa sampler with guacamole, chx, and tomato salsa. Can't go wrong with any of the tacos. I was disappointed. Reading the reviews, I was excited to try this place and have some "authentic" Mexican in Bellefontaine. We started with the trio of dips and chips. The cheese sauce was just that cheese sauce, not tasting like it had any acid, spice, or anything I would have expected in a Mexican cheese sauce like a good queso. The salsa tasted almost like a marinara sauce, again no spice or chilies. The guacamole was decent. The fish tacos were over dressed, the birria tacos were really good, and was not a fan of the grilled poblano dinner. I get what they were trying to do by cooking with strips of bacon in the chicken, but the flavors just didn't meld together. In terms of cocktails, the jalapeño marg didn't have much flavor, it's like they ran out of lime juice or forgot to add muddled jalapeño or something and the mezcal old fashion just didn't have much flavor either. This place was not bad, but definitely not great either. read more
