We've been huge fans of the Foundry Grill for years. Favorites have included: Brussel Sprout and Dirty Fry's appetizers entrees of trout and the filet mignon. Our last visit (party of ten - son-in-law birthday), was the worst. Of the ten entrees: 3 halibuts (all over cooked and DRY) and 3 filet mignons (2 ordered medium rare and 1 medium - all arrived medium well as though our orders were completely ignored). We let the server know and were comped desert. Two of the comped deserts were cheese cake. The delivered cheese cake looked and tasted like they had been in the fridge for a couple of days. I will say that the appetizers met expectations - really good. Nevertheless, at something like $700...this meal was a major disappointment. Robert Redford needs to return. read more

Another marvelous experience at the foundry grill. This place is absolutely stunning! The views alone is a reason to go. I just love it here. The staff is top notch. Every time I've come I've felt as if I was a regular because the service is warm and welcoming. I didn't get to take a picture of my lovely burger. But the truffle Mac n cheese was the star for me. I honestly could eat the Mac n cheese as an entree it is magnificent. The Brussels sprouts are a must have every time I come. The are sweet, salt, and savory all at the same time. Sundance resort! There's 3-4 restaurants around the grounds. The Foundry seems like the most expensive one. We went for Sunday brunch sans alcohol, but it was available. They had ribeye and crusted salmon as the lunch entrees. Brunch is served buffet style. $50 per adult, $25 for children up to 10(?) years old. They had grits (tasted wonderful), grilled green beans over a bed of sautéed onions. Sautéed mushrooms. Walnut cranberry salad. Crusty rolls with rolled butter balls. Mini jars of jam and honey. A breakfast bar with crispy bacon, eggs benedict, scrambled eggs, sausage patty's. Waffle bar, omelet bar, fresh whipped cream, fresh fruit, warm syrup, caramel, chocolate chips, salsa, sour cream, and a couple more toppings for your eggs. Then there was the dessert bar! Cherry chocolate tartlets, cheesecake, bread pudding, scones, carrot cake, chocolate cake, blondies, raisin bars, and much more. Expensive! $$$$$ read more

Get here early for walk around the property. Absolutely beautiful. Restaurant is tucked away near the general store. Front staff is not the most friendly staff but other staff members more than make up for it. We got the Brussels sprouts and charcuterie board for apps. Both were fantastic and I would highly recommend. I love it when the B sprouts are little charred on outside with lots of flavor. Charcuterie board is very tasty but could've used more bread. Which they gladly gave more when asked. I got the salmon and my colleagues got steak. Fabulous. Both seafood and meat was well seasoned and well cooked. Drinks were well made and high the spot. Location is amazing! Food was terrible. Chicken fried steak was ground beef and tasted like it was fried in rancid oil. Eggs Benedict had the thinnest piece of ham humanly possible and egg was overcooked. Orange juice tasted like it went bad. Fresh drip coffee was over bitter and acidic. The ambience of this place is its main appeal. The rescue setting with the beautifully frame mountains through the windows, makes this s great dining experience. I was looking for somewhere special for a birthday dinner. I was recommended The Foundry Grill. In addition I was bringing some individuals from out of state and wanted to show them the beauty of Utah. This place hit all aspects. We went on a Monday night and it was packed. We had reservations and I would recommend that. The grounds are beautiful, so make sure you have some time to walk around. We sat around a large fire pit and enjoyed conversation prior to our dinner. We had ribeye and Tomahawk steaks both were cooked perfectly and literally melted in our mouths. Brussels sprouts were crispy, the fries were delicious. Dessert was decadent. If you don't like an ultra runny egg white - DO NOT order the Dirty Fries. And if you think you can ask for the "poached egg" to be better done, think again. "We just have a vat of eggs, poached like that" was the response .... and after my request for a "more well done whites, egg" - my order was delivered without explanation 40 minutes later, without an egg! The foundry consistently is one of my favorite places to eat in Utah. You can't really beat the ambiance - dare I say Sundance resort is my favorite place in UT to visit. We came here to celebrate the Christmas holiday as a family - I work as a nurse so this was the only time I got off this holiday go around. We ordered the Brussel sprout appetizer and the soup of the day which was a coconut curry soup. The brussel sprouts were amazing. I love brussel sprouts and have eaten my fair share of them and I must say these are so freaking delicious. They are the best balance of sweet and tart - I know they use balsamic somehow and they reduce it perfectly. I could've eaten the whole plate myself but had to share. I ordered the flat iron steak entree and my husband got the bison ribeye. They both had the same accompaniments. We both got the chimichurri on the side. The fingerling potatoes were a great side, as well as the bearnaise sauce. The roasted carrots were less than desirable as they had way too much bite to them still - tough and stringy. The Brussel sprouts are a must-order. If you don't like Brussel sprouts, you're wrong. Try these and then question every life choice you've ever made. They're very good. Been coming here for years and have always loved it. Today was quite a disappointment. First off, it took an hour to get our food after we ordered. The charcuterie board was excellent. But the mains were not great. I had chicken tacos and they had no flavor at all. Needed hotsauce to get the flavors to come out. The black beans were the worst i ever had. My husband and I wanted to be up in the mountains so we decided to go to Sundance. We were surprised to find that The Foundry Grill was open at 7AM. The scenery up at Sundance speaks for itself! And the ambience of The Foundry Grill is cozy-log cabin that makes you appreciate the mountains and nature! We were greeted and seated quickly. The staff was bright and friendly. The bathrooms were located just outside (but still in the same building) of the restaurant. The restrooms were very clean and kept well. My husband and I ordered espressos to start the morning off and they were intense and thorough! We also ordered a coffee toward the end of our meal and we're surprised to find that the coffee seemed strong! We will be ordering just the coffee for future reference! Both were delicious! For food I ordered the Avocado Toast and my husband ordered the Vegan Breakfast Bowl. Both were delicious!! And the beautiful part of both dishes overall was the celebration of the ingredients themselves. The Avocado Toast was sublime! Avocado, poached eggs (perfectly prepared), Tomato Hollandaise, prosciutto, and sour dough bread sung in beautiful harmonious tunes. The Vegan Breakfast Bowl was expertly prepared. When I prepared the perfect bite with a little of everything (baby pepper, snow pea, spiced carrot sauce, egg substitute and crispy polenta) I was impressed with not only how fresh it tasted, but how each ingredient was seasoned just enough to celebrate the ingredient but not so much it overwhelms its original state of being. The host forgot to give us menus and also a place to scan the QR code so we sat for probably 10 minutes waiting for someone to come take our drink orders etc. The server was overwhelmed and had been assigned what looked like 6 tables and was really scrambling to keep up. We had the broccoli cheddar soup as a starter which they split for us into 2 cups. It was very well blended and tasted good! We also got their lemonade options. Those lemonades had a lot of flavor and would be even better with some alcohol added to them :) . We also got the flank steak sandwich and the chicken bacon ranch sandwich both with the fries. The steak sandwich was better than the CBR but both were really flavorful and delicious. The pesto on the steak sandwich really made that sandwich the winner. We would eat either of them again. the truffle aoli is also to die for. The service was extremely lacking though. It took nearly 20 mins for anyone to get our drink order and then almost an hour before we got our food. The place wasn't that busy on the inside but maybe the outdoor patio was? Definitely worth the trip if you are anywhere near the area. Reservations were very easy to make and everything was ready for us when we got there. It's worth coming a little early to check out the area and shop, as it's just a beautiful place. We had a large group of 10 and we got appetizers to split and the bread and fries were absolutely incredible. The service was quick and attentive, and every person loved their food. Another wonderful meal. Ordered the ribeye, the braised short rib, the Brussels and for our side we had the asparagus. If you've eaten here before you know that everything is wonderful. The Good: The Brussels were definitely a highlight. The arrive crispy, with nuts, raspberries and a sauce. They are on par with the best Brussels sprouts I've ever had (which were similar with cayenne and honey). The ribeye was one of our favorites as well. Flavorful, well seasoned and perfectly cooked; our picky steak eater adored every bite. We ate here for multiple meals and my favorite items were the seasoned fries, the macaroni and cheese, the beat salad, and the campfire cookie. The avocado toast was good, but nothing special. It was a bit soggy and heavy on the acid. The pancake plate was tasty, and they allowed me to sub the meat for a fruit bowl. My hubby liked his adobe jackfruit wrap. It was not for me, but he's vegetarian and liked having the choice. The worst dishes were the shrimp tacos and the miso cod. I would skip both of these, and maybe the seafood in general. First, let me start with the vibes. Sundance is one of the prettiest places in the state so naturally you're going to enjoy the ambiance and vibe of the foundry. The decor is amazing, views spectacular, and the rustic building is top notch. Now to the food. And here is where the foundry loses one star. Some restaurants have this thing where everything on the menu is amazing. Other restaurants have "their thing" that is good and some items aren't the best. That's the problem with the foundry. They change their menu quite frequently and sometimes they have absolutely killer menu items and other times not so much. For example, the Brussels sprouts here are AMAZING. 10/10 no doubt. Also, I got a crab melt last time I was there that was incredible. Creamy, lots of crab and truly delicious. Steak is usually a good bet. Other times I've left with friends saying "mine wasn't that great." So know this going in and you should be good. Staff is usually quite friendly. read more

Decided to plan a little date night up at Sundance before the snow comes and we were not disappointed! We started with the dirty fries. At first I thought there might be too much garlic, but really it was just my famished self being a little too sensitive. I became accustomed quickly and found the absolutely delicious! They were seasoned perfectly and the egg was perfect. The fries were cooked to perfection, perfectly crisp, not soggy and very tasty! I had the filet, medium rare with the Boursin mashed potatoes and asparagus. The steak was to die for, perfectly medium rare and melted in my mouth. The Demi was tasty and not overpowering for the steak. The potatoes were pretty good, not quite outstanding but a decent complement to the steak. The asparagus was good too. The ends were slightly crispy, I like them really crispy but I know that's not proper in culinary circles... My wife had the special which was a short rib gnocchi. The gnocchi was very good and the short rib was tender and delicious. It was a different dish but quite good regardless. It was topped with crispy green onions which was different but I really liked it! We finished the evening with the flourless chocolate cake. I was hoping it would be similar the the flourless chocolate torte that we had here a few years back, but it wasn't. Our family has made a point of visiting Sundance and eating at the Foundry Grill for more than 15 years. We love the decor and coziness of the dining area. The food and service have always been great. Unfortunately, it has changed, we realize that there is new ownership but the menu choices have really shrunk. On our visit Friday Nov 24th for lunch, the meal was okay not fantastic. Most of us ordered sandwiches or street tacos. The waitress didn't seem to know much about the beer menu, and wasn't inlined to help. When we ordered a beer it was warm, now I know in Germany beer is often warm, but this beer was meant to be cold. We were disappointed and not sure when we will return. The check was more than $400 for 8 people to have sandwiches & beer...not a happy group. Makes me sad. read more

Such a fun dinner!! I came up here for a girls night and we had the best time eating dinner in the mountains. To start, we ordered the dirty fries. It was the perfect size to share between the 3 of us. The seasoning on the fries was delicious and I liked the crunchiness of the fries. I can always tell if a place is good based on the fries, and these are good fries! This was a great choice for an appetizer. I ordered the seasonal lemonade as my drink and the chicken as my entree. The chicken came out on a skillet and was very juicy on the inside. It came with a grilled potato salad and green beans as the sides. It was very filling and I liked what I ordered. Overall, we had a great experience. We were seated immediately when we arrived. The service was awesome and very attentive. Our waters were never empty. I've been to the Foundry grill multiple times and was never impressed with their food. We decided to give it another chance while we were at Sundance for the outdoor theater. And the food definitely impressed this time! Brussel sprouts were seriously the best I've ever had and their potatoes were delicious as well. They got my husband's steak mixed up with someone else's so when we sent his back to get cooked some more they brought us the right one and it was about 1/2 the size... so that was a downer. The real down side came in the reservation process. I called the day before and they took my name and number and told me they were pretty full at 5 but could do 5:15, I said great! When we showed up the hostess could not find our reservation and kept asking if we received our text confirmation. I repeatedly told her no and that I was never informed that was part of the process or I would have called back. The vibe I kept getting was she thought I was lying. I wasn't. I showed them the call record that I had called yesterday and what time. She just kept starring at her computer and finally I had to ask if we would be able to eat here or not. Only then was she able to look at me and say they couldn't accommodate us and gave us a few other options up at Sundance. I was definitely put off by the way she was handling their mistake so I asked to speak with a manager. Even though the restaurant was mostly empty, I've worked in restaurants for years so I get the whole not wanting to overwhelm the kitchen and staff and flow of the evening. BUT if you can't accommodate us tonight you better find a way to make it better for another night. The manager still acting like we were lying, kept asking the name of the person we talked to, all I could remember was it was female and the time we called. And he said he couldn't fix it unless he knew who it was. I wish I had asked for a list of females employees answering the phone and working at that time to jog my memory. He was the one who made the accommodations to get us seated right then. I'm grateful he was able to take care of their mistake. In the future I'll make sure I get that confirmation text and now you've all been warned haha hopefully they don't lose anymore reservations! We tried to be as respectful as possible.
