I love the Franklin. It's a wonderful neighborhood spot with a rotating specials menu and pleasant staff. I've had stuff from the dinner menu and the brunch and I've never had a bad experience. It's also BYOB what's not to love. I see people here complaining about the weirdest things. CC' fees (which are mandatory by state and every restaurant has them) and servers who give you an answer to an issue and you just tell them they are wrong and proceed to leave? Sounds childish to me. Remember to be kind to your servers. They are just trying to make a living too. And remember that things are out of their control sometimes. However, it is clear that it was a case of bad management. You need to properly staff in order to meet the demand. They charged a surcharge of extra cents on my items ordered and said it's because the company they use charges a fee for card use. The restaurant is legally supposed to cover that fee and if it doesn't state it transparently on the menu or before purchase you're not supposed to be charged that fee. You pay for 15$ if you see 15$ on the menu, not 15.60$. They then said if you pay in cash they give you more money back and charge you the non-surcharge amount, which makes no sense, expecting a restaurant to give you the correct amount bc you paid with cash and not card. Especially since I paid debit and federally you can't be surcharged on things that aren't credit. It's only an extra 5$ on the total bill but it totals out for everyone's bill that eats there. read more

Rainy Friday date night, after the restaurant we made reservation couldn't accommodate us, my boyfriend called the place to just to make sure there are outdoor tables available. The lady on the phone was friendly, honest and welcome. Im so happy that we decided to go here. Have tried to eat here a few times over the past two years and have given up. Started the meal off with my wife finding something in her drink. I had the lobster bisque and it needs a new name. I couldn't really discern what soup it was supposed to be...seriously lacked cream and wasn't the correct color. My wife had the warm goat cheese and mushroom risotto and enjoyed both dishes. The last time I went the beef bolognese semi salvaged the meal. Though the homemade pasta was great, the sauce was alittle oily. This time however it couldn't do the job. We went to the Franklin for dinner and they knocked it out of the park. The ambiance is great, the food even better, and the service out of this world. Jimmy, our waiter, was super attentive and so kind. My boyfriend and I split the crispy Brussels sprouts, spicy chicken parmigiana, and the warm goat cheese salad. Everything was delicious, but the chicken parmigiana was the star of the show. We kept saying to each other how that was one of the best chicken parms we've had. I came in on a sunny Thursday afternoon around 3:30 pm. For some reason they were still serving their morning menu. I ordered a burger. It came out with white spots all over the bun. It might have been mold, or it might have been some kind of chemical spray (like oven cleaning spray). I showed the waitress and she insisted it was fine. She said it was because they keep the buns in the refrigerator. I keep bread in my fridge at home, and it doesn't get white spots. She said all the buns had spots on them. I would be happy to order again if they gave true meal sizes like when you go in person but can't order for pick up if that is the size of a 20 dollar pasta. It was good, but I did have to add salt and that's not something I usually have to do because I don't like my food overly salty. But once I salted it to taste, it was wonderful. We finally got an opportunity to try dinner here - though we ordered in. We tried [2 I believe] of the Braised Short Rib ($28) which is AMAZING as well as a Pan-Seared Atlantic Salmon ($26) dish which is also delicious. We also got the truffle fries which I liked better than my 4yo, who usually likes fries. So when we got our order delivered, there were donuts on top and first thing I thought was "oh, they added in some doughnuts" but then I looked at the receipt on the back and it was for an Abby in downtown. We called the restaurant and apparently Grubhub took the wrong order from the counter. Uf! They offered for one of their staff to bring it over and told them we can give them back the other bag but they couldn't take it back (some policy about open food, though we didn't open any of the containers nor take them out of the bag.). Anyway, Abby, our family was starving by that time so since we had now all this extra food, there was nothing to do but to try it. A "Tour de Franklin" my beaux said. The Cavatelli Carbonara (22.75) was AMAZING! I would have never known to try it. The Bolognese (19.75)...also AMAZING! I wasn't too into the Dulce de Leche donuts though and mu husband ate the Franklin Burger (17.75) at a future date. We couldn't get the kiddos to try the pastas but they devoured the short rib. We called the restaurant to ask them to resend and were told "no problem, we'll tell the kitchen to rush it and redeliver." Great! Went here for brunch this weekend and was very pleasantly surprised. First the iced coffee came in a giant wine glass, so I knew we were headed in the right direction. There have been quite a few new restaurant openings in my neighborhood over the past 2-3 years that have been executed with varying degrees of success. After my first visit to The Franklin for brunch I am confident The Franklin will be a restaurant I will frequent regularly. First off, at least for their brunch menu, The Franklin did an excellent job in providing many options that are varied and well-priced. I ordered a $12 mushroom and goat cheese omelet that was well prepared and I greatly enjoyed. The price point was reasonable, and I am glad The Franklin seems to be avoiding the trap a lot of new restaurants in my neighborhood fall into of jacking up the price for simple things like an omelet. Service was warm and friendly, and the décor was enjoyable. I was struck by how comfortable the seating is arranged with lots of room in between tables; no bumping elbows with your neighbors here! I can't wait to come back for dinner and hope to find it as busy as it was for brunch. There is one area that could be improved in my opinion which is the acoustics; I hope they can install something in the restaurant to dampen the noise a little as it was quite loud. read more

My favorite meal of the weekend would have to be brunch so when my friend suggested we try this new spot in Jersey City heights, I was immediately interested. The Franklin is one of many new businesses finding a home in this up and coming area. The atmosphere is very modern and since this is slightly off the beaten path, my group of 4 was sat immediately on a Sunday afternoon - a rarity in the JC/Hoboken area. I ordered the Franklin burger which was loaded with guacamole, chorizo, and burrata. It was out of this world. Every bite was flavorful and the handmade fries that came with it were delicious. My 3 friends all ordered different eggs Benedict. The contentious was that the chorizo Benny was the best. We also split an order of the pancakes. These were just OK - nothing special about them. Good but something I could make in my kitchen at home. The service was where this restaurant fell short. The restaurant was pretty much empty but they forgot to make the pancakes we ordered. They ended up coming out after we had already eaten. I think they also could be more attentive overall. Still a solid new spot in the area with an extensive brunch menu. read more

This review is for the food only! I thought service there was friendly and they did a great job staying on top of water & coffee refills. I ordered the Crab Cake Benedict. The Crab Cake was gooey, full of red & green bell peppers - it looks as if my crab cake had more peppers than crab. The English muffin they served them on was nice - but not toasted enough. The yolk of my poached eggs were half cooked, pretty sure the hollandaise was broken. Not much flavor in the dish, super mediocre. The potatoes were sticky and full of red and green peppers, like the crab cake - so the only thing I could taste were the peppers for the entire dish. For $15.95 this dish was a joke! Portions are small but I didn't enjoy it - so I really wouldn't have wanted to eat anymore. I was expecting delicious things from all the neighborhood buzz, I was disappointed. Fantastic little spot! I have to start off by saying that our server, Kelly was amazing! She was so pleasant and friendly and made the experience even better. We recently moved a couple of blocks away and have driven by a few times to see the busy outside dining area. The vibe is very chill and the coffee is great!
