Very good but Expensive. This is a place I would go to if I wanted to treat myself for the day. I couldn't just go here as much as I would like because the prices are a little to steep for my pocketbook. The employees were great and the fudge was delicious. This was our fourth stop on the Gold Coast & Old Town Food Tour so I got to try the butter toffee at the the Fudge Pot. I'm not exactly a big fan of chocolate so this review is simply on my experience. This is such a cute little shop that's filled with fudge and different kinds of sweets. They have so many things such as cars, tools, animals, etc that that are all made of chocolate. I love that there are just so many cute things to look at here. Overall, I would definitely recommend this place to anyone especially Chocolate Lovers! It's such a cute little shop to just look at regardless if you like chocolate or not. They also have other sweets like caramel apples that looked really good. I will definitely have to come back and try that next time. My name is Andrea & I'm a chocoholic. I've lived down the street from The Fudge Pot for almost 5 years, but have never been inside & there is a very good reason why. I simply do NOT have enough discipline to go in this store and not leave with at least 10 pieces of chocolate. The smell of chocolate as I walk by is enough to make me crave sweets so I know it's all downhill once I enter. Today I had a question for the owner and had no choice, but to go inside. I made a promise to myself that I would not be leaving with any chocolate and opened the door to what looked like Willy Wonka's chocolate factory. The smell of chocolate was overwhelming. How does anyone work here and not eat chocolate all day long? I asked the guy behind the counter that very question. His response: "they don't work here or they eat chocolate all day long". Note to self- never work in a chocolate factory. Not that I have enough artistic talent to even work in a place like this because The Fudge Pot truly molds works of art out of chocolate. I was awed by all the different shapes of chocolate animals that looked looked too pretty to eat (well...almost too pretty to eat). So was I able to walk in The Fudge Pot and not buy any chocolate? For those of you who thought I would make it have way too much faith in me. I purchased 2 chocolate covered cherries (my favorite) for 50 cents a piece as a treat for after lunch. I thought 50 cents a piece was a bit pricey for a small piece of chocolate, but after eating it I realized that the dollar I spent was well worth it. YUM! I also acknowledged that I went to the Fudge Pot every three days, and the owner recognized me by now. I am so glad that I do not live next to the Fudge Pot. Otherwise, I will not be able to wear my current pants. SO WHAT'S GOOD IN THE FUDGE POT? I highly recommend the FRZOEN CHOCOLATE BANANA! Initially, I was highly skeptical of the banana. Like most of you, I assumed that it would be no different from bananas dipped into chocolate, which I could easily make myself. However, surprisingly, the chocolate was thin and crispy. More importantly, the BANANA tasted like ICE CREAM. I felt like I were in heaven every time I ate this dessert. I would suggest you buying dark chocolate banana. Otherwise, it would be too sweet. EVERY time I'm in Chicago I go to The Fudge Pot. It's a small, family owned and operated business in the same spot for at least 3 generations! Besides being one of the last remnants of Old Town Chicago from the 1960's, their fudge, chocolate confections, taffy apples (walnut or peanut) and more, are all made there, fresh and delicious. All of the employees are friendly and patient with the multiple questions and requests. They're open late and make special orders in advance! The rear case is fun--chocolate dinosaurs! Others have mentioned their custom orders, which seem like a cool idea for which I would probably never have a use. But to satisfy my sweet tooth after a meal in Old Town, I have swung by here a few times. I like that their chocolate-covered pretzels are medium-sized pretzels instead of little ones like you usually see. That gives a more balanced chocolate-to-pretzel ratio. I like their Hawaiian Delight--chocolate, macadamia nuts, and coconut, one of the greatest flavor combinations of all time--but they need to put more of the solid goodies in the mix. I stay away from all the crazy designer chocolate signs and go for pure munchy value. While on the Chicago Food Planet Near North End Tour, we stopped in the Fudge pot for a demonstration/explanation and the chance to try the bathroom scale's patience, not to mention springs. I knew it was destined to be a great experience when they opened by explaining how the founder had a hand in creating the 3 Musketeers Bar - possibly the finest of the mass-produced candy bars out there. They don't make their own chocolate but they certainly know how to treat it and if the morsels I sampled were any indication, the Fudge Pot and I could use the healthy distance that exists between us. The very friendly, familial atmosphere you find when you walk in and the smile inducing chocolate make for a candy shop I'll be happy to visit the next time I'm in Chicago. read more

Unfortunately, there was no fudge to be found on my visit, so I settled for truffles and a chocolate bark. I ate a Kahlua truffle and an amaretto truffle. The Kahlua one was pretty good, but nothing spectacular. But the amaretto truffle was excellent, and it's the only reason that this review is 2 stars instead of 1. The truffle was rolled in a toasted almond crust, and it was simply delicious. The chocolate bark was called something like Hawaiian Delight, but it was really a Hawaiian nightmare. It consisted of chocolate, coconut, and macademia nuts. The chocolate was absolutely awful, and there was hardly any coconut and macademia nuts. I never thought I'd ever meet chocolate that I didn't like, but I did. The quality of the chocolate was horrendous, worse than a store bought chocolate bar.
