This is my favorite coffee shop in Savannah. Conveniently located for downtown wanderings, with your typical college coffee house decor...tables and couches, kids typing dutifully away on macs, dogs lounging under the outdoor tables...it's fun. I am obsessed with their iced Thai coffee...it's perfect for consumption on a hot, humid Savannah day. I've had their spinach & egg croissant, which was good, but nothing to write home about. Their chicken salad is lovely. I need to find more opportunities to eat there and really should take my computer there to write yelp reviews and/or work on a novel...because really, what are coffee shops with wifi for except to have people watch you be cool, creative and scholarly. The only reason it doesn't get five stars from me is because, in the true fashion of college coffee shops, the staff comes off like they're doing you the biggest favor making your coffee. It is painful to tip them when they're sneering at you from behind the counter. They make me feel so bourgeois because I'm not a starving SCAD student. Never fun. read more

Patient, kind, and personalized service. Get a double shot of the Turkish coffee, which will get you over the $5 minimum order on cards. They'll ask if you want it strained (I said yes). The preparation will take at least five minutes, and they'll bring the glorious result to you in the sitting area. You won't regret it. Or, if you're a tea person, check out the amazing selection of loose tea tins to the right of the ordering area. You're encouraged to open and smell any and all to guide your decision-making. You're sure to find something that will please you. Then take your selection to the ordering area. They'll give you a personal steeper and demonstrate how, after your desired steeping time, you place the steeper down on your cup, and it autoempties. Love this place! read more

Gone downhill. Ive visited Gallery many many times over the years in visiting Savannah. Just recently returned after 3-4 years and was saddened to see it in decline. First of all, any level of cleanliness is lacking. Food and coffee stains, crumbs all over the place on tables, on the dirty cement floor, on counters. The employees do not bus table and don't wipe them down--it's really quite gross. It looked like nobody took a mop to the floor in here for a very long time. It never used to be like this. Second, they always seem to have a lot of people helping behind the counter and most of the visits Ive made, they are standing around joking, talking, and generally not paying attention to customers. Some rudeness and lack of civility is apparent. Two stars for the coffee and bakery goods which are very good. The lunch menu is rather lacking and not great. Generally, it's confusing why the owner and manager don't check the cleanliness of this place--its a turnoff for customers (and I have heard customers complaining) as well as a health issue for paying customers. It's all too bad because it could be a good place to visit with a premiere location right on Bull next to a famous Chippewa square with nice views of the comings and goings. read more

Love the atmosphere and the vibe but honestly, the coffee taste absolutely horrible here. So bad, I almost tossed it in a garbage. I have worked as a barista and know coffee very well to say this was worse than Starbucks! Heck, I would much rather get a coffee at Parker's than get it from Gallery Espresso. Both would be cheaper as well. Some of the stuff are not the nicest either. My wife got a pastry today, and they seemed quite upset, gave it to her without saying anything at all. He did not ask anything like "how can I help you?" or "what would you like?". Nothing, not even hi, how are you! Just waited until she asked for what she wanted... They were not responsive to other customers as well, which seemed really rude for a place like this. read more

Lovely atmosphere, even more lovely coffee and menu. Coffee is always smooth and delicious. "Mistletoe Joe" was a fave. Bought a bag of beans to grind and brew at home. Oh, the freshly baked scones (sweet and savory) are amazing, best I've ever eaten. They are huge, flavorful, soft and moist. Many scones are dry and not so tasty. Try the fruit and cheese tray, oh, my. I could go on and on. :) Even the restroom is a treat...check out the walls in the ladies. read more

I don't want to come off as one of those "I liked their first album better" types of people, but I'm going to give Gallery a better rating than it deserves for the sake of the hole-in-the-wall basement Gallery Espresso I originally fell in love with in 2003, when it was right next door to Home Run Video. But, I know, nostalgia is no good for realistic ratings, so I must come down with my hammer of judgment. 2.5 stars is about right. Yeah, it's cute. Loved the iced chai. Never had a problem with the staff. Was a little overpriced for what it dished out. But I feel like Gallery Espresso never figured out what it wanted to be. Like a small-town shop with Starbucks-sized ego and ambitions, yet it fell flat somewhere in the middle. It's kind of mediocre, unimpressive, leaves you no reason to come back unless you're in need of a caffeine fix and walking right by. And if you're a little less lazy than I tend to be, you should just walk five or so extra minutes down Bull and have a cup of joe at the Sentient Bean, where you'll receive twice the quality and half the hipster BS. read more

I love Gallery Espresso. I will always love Gallery Espresso. This coffee shop offers up moderately priced coffee and food, and is a great place for study or working on your own, as well as having a good conversation with others. Indoor and outdoor seating is available. Located right off of Bull St., in the square where Forrest Gump was filmed in donwtown Savannah, Gallery is a semi-quintessential spot for Savannah locals and the SCAD / college crowd. It offers up a variety of coffees, teas, and other tasty liquids, as well as fresh pastries and sandwiches. (My fave sandwich is their BLT - so good.) This place is cool for groups (people do bible studies, group studying, all kinds of things here) as well as a more singular experience. ONE QUAINT NOTE: Gallery Espresso is very laid-back, very artsy, and kind of dusted in its decor and appeal. At first, it can almost seem off putting when you walk in, because they decorated their venue with a bunch of old chairs and couches, which are mismatched and unassumingly placed all about the place. The place has big windows, which allows in great daytime interior light. Like any coffee shop, the people (the patrons) don't tend talk to you or even look at you right away, if at all, when you walk through the door. But the people who sit in these mismatched chairs are good people. And the servers and workers here, who really hold this place together, are good people, too. And the truth is, you never know who you might meet in Gallery Espresso. I've met some interesting characters here in my time. read more

ITALIAN SODA It was extremely hot so I got cold italian soda instead of coffee. I got the strawberry and my friend got the mint. Both were good but I wish it had more carbonation in it. I'm SUPER proud of this business being very ECO-CONSCIOUS with using INGEO bio-plastics (do a little research, sweet stuff that can be composted) and they WASH dishes/utensils. This is a prime example of what went wrong in Savannah. Up until a few years ago, Gallery Espresso was on Liberty Street in a funky cave-like underground location that had good cheap coffee and cool, local art for sale on the walls (an easy five stars to this jaded soul). There was always some semi-conscious kid, in-between smoke breaks behind the counter, blaring My Bloody Valentine. I liked that. Then, they changed location to a bright airy spot (which does no favors for my hang-over tinged morning complexion), upped the prices, and pretty much sucked out everything that was good about the place in order to appeal to yuppies, tourists, and SCAD students (i.e., people spending other people's money). It's not the worst place in the universe to grab a cup of joe...it's just a big shame that the goodness is gone. Like Devin O., it makes me a bit sad. Just another part of the Disneyfication trend of downtown Savannah that forced me and other like-minded individuals to the outskirts, and away from the fake plastic watering cans and fake plastic trees that have taken over our funky little town. read more

The coffee was good. The music was not too loud. The people at the counter were friendly. I enjoyed sitting and reading while I drank my coffee. At the counter, they asked "Do you want your change?" No one has ever asked me that, so all I could think to answer was "yes." They also have a tip jar. Maybe they should do one or the other, but not both. read more

Great little coffee house on Chippewa Square in Savannah GA. One thing I really enjoy about Gallery is the fact that they serve some different coffee menu items that are not always available at coffee houses. Gallery offers a Freido which is a shaken Iced coffee drink with flavor, yeah it sounds odd but pretty tasty. They also offer a Turkish coffee, which is great if you like your coffee dark and bitter. Overall a great place to kick back, and watch the passers by while enjoying a good coffee or pastry on Bull Street. read more

Only negative...one of the two girls behind the counter truly seemed to hate (I mean HATE) being there. Who knows what her deal is, but she was not trying to win any best customer service awards when she silently stared at me while I tried to figure out if she was helping customers or just waiting annoyingly on the other person behind the counter. When I finally asked if she were "ready"...she nodded dismissively, silently took my order and then took her joyless self to round up my food and drink so she could plunk it down in front of me. I would really like to love this place, but I just can't do it. Some of my friends and I went here every Sunday for about 3 months after running around the downtown area. The customer service was always slow and we felt like we were an inconvenience. You would think that having 20+ people guaranteed every Sunday morning would be a good thing for a local business, but apparently they weren't so enthusiastic about it. This place was on the other side of Chippewa Square from my hotel during my stay in Savannah and since I was the typical-tourist it covered all the bases for a traveller who needs a late night caffeine hit, sugar hit, or access to free WiFi. It's got all those things, but I can't rave about any of it. The coffee was nothing to write home to mom about, and after trying a couple of their desserts I started wondering if they ever threw them out since they were quite crunchy & dried out. My guess is that they sit there until some sorry "tourist" like me waltzes in and decides to treat herself since she's on vacation. Ah, such a sucker. I must add that I really liked the bathroom. Lot's of little souvenirs and trinkets to buy and gawk at. BUT to my surprise after the glowing reviews of fellow Yelpers! ... the cappuccino wasn't anything memorable. In fact, we had to ask for it to be made in the correct size cup (the barista tried to serve cappuccino in a latte mug--no thanks!!) Watch out Turkish coffee lovers! A lovely coffee house in Savannah Georgia, just off Chipewa Square (Forrest Gump's Bench scene), and centered in the middle of the Haunted tour district (somebody died everyplace in that city!). But you won't die in line at Gallery Espresso ... they have quick friendly service, and some great pastries and other delicacies to nosh on. They serve a mean Breve! The decor is very casual, wall bricks and plaster with exposed wood beams; coupled with comfy, beat up, wing back chairs to sink into and enjoy a coffee and a newspaper. They have books, board games, and a laid back friendly clientele. Go sit down for a while, and forget why you were going to go anywhere else later on. Amazing place! The guys behind the counter were all really sweet and extremely fast. I got a double shot mocha and it was fantastic. If they were in my hometown I would never bother with starbucks again! The decor is kind of artsy and has plenty of sitting room inside but I prefer to sit outside and people watch. It's right on the corner of Chippawa Square and is a wonderful place to sit and relax day or night. They also have food, which all sounded delicous but I went just after dinner so didn't try anything. Not into coffee that much? No problem because they also serve alcohol. If you find yourself in Savannah on vacation I'm sure you'll head to Chippawa Square at least once so pop into the Gallery Espresso, I pormise you won't be dissappointed. Always one of our favorite stops in downtown Savannah. It's perfect for dessert with their delicious cakes and drinks. I highly recommend the Italian sodas and any variety of chocolate cake! We visited several times during December, and there was such a wonderful, calm atmosphere on Wednesday and Thursday evenings, even during the heart of the holiday season. I visited Gallery Espresso while in Savannah for a short visit. On this particular day, we had been out walking the city for a long time before we finally stopped in Gallery Espresso. It was a hot day, I was "hangry" and had not had any coffee and when I just couldn't take it anymore we stopped into the first place we saw, which happened to be here. It's very eclectic inside, with a random mish mash of chairs, old tables, couches, art work etc. Many SCAD students hanging out inside, taking advantage of the chill hang out spot and free wifi. I ordered a chicken salad sandwich and a "large" iced coffee. The coffee was made right away and the sandwich was brought out a few minutes later. Good thing I ordered a "large" because that was equivalent to the size of a small at McDs or Dunkin (16 oz, I believe). The coffee was just okay, but not flavored and they only had milk or 1/2 and 1/2 as options. Not the best coffee ever. The chicken salad sandwich was pretty tasty though. Served on a soft croissant, it was plentiful, flavorful and definitely satisfying. The coffee and sandwich were both a bit over priced in my opinion, but the sandwich being so tasty made up for it. read more

It's a great place to grab a drink and sit down to work on your stuff on the computer. The chairs are mostly ripped and they all look like they were picked out from somebody's front yard. I guess with the "art school confidential"-esque kind of artworks on the wall, it's supposed to be artsy. It's definitely a college student's place. Their free wifi is INSANELY fast. I speedtested their wifi it was something like 17mbp/sec. CRAZY. so if you are trying to download something this would be a great place I asked for a bagel. She took our cash and did not tell us our total we have no idea if we got the right change back. When we mentioned this she said " oh well I have already rang it up".
