A new fave breakfast spot. Right off State road 7/441 just north of Atlantic on the west side, tucked right next to a Thrift City, Gem Eatery is a "gem" for sure. Hubby and I love breakfast food, I'll eat a good pancake any day so based on our good Yelp folks and friends reviews and in conversation, we beelined here as soon as we could. The place is small, homey, my favorite kind of place. We walked in on a mid Saturday morning and were told by a very nice waitress to sit anywhere; it was about half full, not too busy. We sat near the back near the kitchen. My observant hubby noticed upon entry that this was also a bakery--we were close to a video screen that looped pictures of fancy cakes, cookies, catered events and other bakery fare they offered. Then this very happy, friendly gentleman came out of the kitchen with a HUGE tray of HUGE freshly baked cinnamon rolls---I kid you not--I thought we had wandered into some episode of a Food Channel bakery challenge show or guy fieri or something, I thought cameras were going to trail him going through the restaurant. Lol. He just wanted to get the scent of fresh baked buns throughout the place. And tempt the customers, maybe. Epic. Anyway, our minds (and calorie consciousnesses) were set on having a simple breakfast. The menu is pretty straightforward. A few combos, seemed like most items were la carte. I selected to have one pancake with bacon crumbles cooked into the batter. I asked for white chocolate chips to be added. That pancake was so good. And huge. I could only eat half, thanks to our sweetie pie waitress who advised me to order only one. It was chock full of actual pieces of crispy bacon. Hubby had a combo with pancakes, eggs, home fries and bacon. A little slice of watermelon added color made his plate look more appetizing. Those home fries though.......Lol! I have had The Gem Eatery bookedmarked for some time. We took advantage that our daughter was sleeping over her grandparents near by and decided to try someplace new. First, don't let the run down strip mall turn you off. The Gem is definitely a hidden gem. They have limited tables and we only had a 5 minute wait. We had to start with the famous cinnamon bun. It was absolutely decadent. There is no better way to describe it. It was a lot of bun goodness. I had the veggie egg white omelet with feta. It was packed with veggies...potatoes, broccoli, spinach, red pepper, fresh mushrooms, onion. The flavor was absolutely freshly delicious. I opted for a side of grits (after all the potatoes were in my omelet). It was too big to finish and I took most of it home. (Well, I did have part of the cinnamon bun - which if I failed to mention was worth every gooey cinnamony calorie) My husband had pork chop and eggs, Jerk style. He was excited because it was actually spicy! I ended with a cafe con leche to go. Service was pretty good. I did have to ask for a refill on my coffee, but they were friendly. All in all, I totally need to find an excuse to drive from weston for margate for breakfast soon. They had a peanutbutter and jelly French toast special that is calling my name! read more

I honestly can't remember the last time I walked out of a restaurant without having a meal. Typically there's some redeeming quality that keeps us there with the promise of hope, unfortunately, that wasn't the case with my visit to the Gem Eatery - which is sad because this place has been on my bookmarks for a while and I was really looking forward to a great visit based on other people's reviews. It was a really rainy day, the Gem was a bit busy but there were still two or 3 empty tables. We were greeted almost immediately by the hostess and sat at a table. She took our drink orders and brought us our drinks and told us our server would be with us shortly. We waited, and waited and waited some more, without acknowledgement from the server. More than 20 minutes later we were still waiting, ignored, hungry and disappointed. We put money on the table to cover our drinks and left. All that had to be done was some sort of communication like a quick stop by the table saying something like hi, I'll be with you in a moment or even a wave from across the room. I saw on yelp that they make homemade cinnamon rolls so I had to check it out. I went on a Tuesday at noon and the place was empty. The menu shows that they offer homemade dishes like mac and cheese, Cuban sandwich, breakfast, etc. They are open breakfast/lunch/dinner. There is a large parking lot out front with plenty of free parking. There is also a bike rack in front of the restaurant. I ordered a cinnamon roll to go. They gave me a frozen one with a side cup of cream cheese frosting. They would have served it warm if I was going to eat it right away. I took it home and warmed it up in my microwave and then frosted it. This roll was AMAZING! Perfect amount of cinnamon and sugar and the dough was super fresh tasting. It is a large serving, and it should be for the $5 I paid. If in the area, I would definitely pick up another cinnamon roll. I'm also curious to try some food, however, a little curious why they had NO customers at lunch. read more

As the restaurant advertises, they DO take their food seriously. Arrived around 10:15am or so, which wasn't too crowded. My family and friend left full and happy. Quality food for great prices. They served lunch before 11:00am too. Follow them on their Facebook page! Also, they take credit cards. When I asked if the corned beef is "shredded", the server immediately replied, "Everything is homemade. It's not canned." I thought, "Whoa, that's real pride for the food right there!" The servers were friendly and very attentive, always asking if customers need coffee refills. They worked fast, so fast that one server dropped a fork and another dropped garnish. I would probably do the same, if I were serving like 6-8 tables. Still, they get 5 stars for customer service! The corned beef and hash, with scrambled eggs was delicious. The beef had crispy edges and was not salty. It was definitely HOMEMADE. My mother's customized omelette (spinach, mushroom, and tomato) and oatmeal was also good. That oatmeal was probably the best I've tried at a restaurant! Texture and flavor was just right. The server asked if she wanted brown sugar too. Both breakfast dishes come with toast, and the server asks if we want butter on it. Again, love the attentiveness! My father had a steak and cheese sub with french fries. He enjoyed it, as the steak was tender and not dry. All of us tried the french fries, which were crispy and fluffy on the inside, unsalted. When the sides are just as good as the main part of the meal, that means the cook or chef takes pride in his/her food. My friend ordered a "Western omelette" with some potatoes. She said it was good too. I believe it had cheese and bacon. Can't remember but she ate the entire omelette, so she enjoyed it. I went here just on the spur because I saw the reviews and thought it had potential as a hole in the wall. The setting was very simple yet cozy. My waitress was very kind in helping pick from the menu seeing that there was a lot of delicious options. I got the Giambotte which was an omelette. Instead of the Italian sausage I switched it for the turkey sausage. I was very optimistic on what was to come out seeing there was a sign that says, and I quote "Everything is made fresh to order. This is not fast food!" but boy was, I surprised when my omelette came out, and the plate was enough for two. It was honestly delicious! The vegetables were sauté the right way,the food was piping hot to the point that you can still see the steam. It did not disappoint at all. As the chef was very kind and sweet, and showing us what new desserts that he had. My party, and I was definitely tempted by the cinnamon buns in which a couple who were sitting adjacent to us highly recommended the cinnamon buns, and said that you won't regret it once you try them! And they were just outstandingly delicious. I highly recommend this place. It's best that you do get there early enough because a crowd does start to rain in around 10:30 AM. read more

Location: The first time I tried to find this place, I passed it a couple of times. It's tucked in a shopping center (across from the field) on 441 in Margate. If you pass the field, turn around, you went too far! Restaurant/Inside: The place is small (@ 10 small tables), but based on the name, it's definitely a "Gem". I usually have to wait, but no more than 15-20 minutes, if I get there early enough and it's definitely worth the wait. Food: All of there offerings are great, but my favorites are cinnamon bun, French toast and the German pancake, which is amazing! The pancake is one large flat pancake, that has high edges and comes with powder sugar and lemon on the side. Summary: This is a family run business that is a no-frills, good eats breakfast joint. This is owned and operated by a couple who obviously have experience. The food options are creative, the food is delicious and filling. Portions are generous, prices are low, and service is friendly. We ordered two omelets, one Cuban sandwich and one order of cinnamon bun French toast which the description says is dipped in custard. I tasted each one and thought each dish was great.
