Had dinner here with a larger group and we sat inside the vault and it was such a fun time. The cornbread is unreal, the oysters were so good and the crab cake ball things were so good too. I got the blackened pork chop and it was exactly what the server described. A lot of my friends got the chicken pasta and they loved that. I wish I got the potato croquettes but I'll have to come back. I didn't try any of the speciality cocktails but I did get their pomegranate mocktail and added tequila to it and omg it was so good. My fiance and I were visiting Blue Ridge with 2 other couples for the weekend. Blue Ridge downtown gets quite busy in the weekends and a lot of restaurants cut off their reservations at 5 ppl. General Ledger was able to accommodate us and were happy to do so. It used to be an old bank and they have a really cool dining room that was the old vault! The restaurant is classy yet casual, the servers (ours was Keegan) are friendly and welcoming. The owner used to be a server and you can tell she runs the place as a family business. We ordered wings, a Cobb salad with shrimp, the ledger salad, burgers and cornbread. The burgers were well seasoned but the toppings were sparse, 1 slice of onion and 1 piece of lettuce. The Mac and cheese was amazing. The croquettes were AMAZINGGGG. GET THEM. If I could only eat carbs this is what I eat all day, think loaded potato marries sour cream and onion potato chips. The salads are huge and both the Cobb and Ledger salad were delicious. The Cobb dressing was interesting, sweeter than I prefer but still good. The Ledger salad, the fried goat cheese make you want to go to heaven. The wings were crisp, flavorful but didn't pack enough punch in the spice level. But would still order again. First off, our server, Jonathan was amazing. Secondly, the food was stellar. We ordered 1 dozen of the fresh oysters and they were out of this world. Super fresh, very mild. Then we both ordered the pecan crusted trout and it was some of the best trout I have ever had. Many places have way too thick of a crust, hiding the flavor of the fish- not here. Perfectly crusted. The Kale salad was great and we ordered the Daly e for the fish on the side not sure how it would taste. But it was delicious. Still glad it was in the side, that way the fish didn't get soggy. Overall, the service was really good, food was alright. My wife had the pappardelle pasta which was just okay, it needed some additional seasoning as it was fairly flat. We came for lunch and had a chicken Caesar with grilled chicken, black eyed pea and collard greens soup and portobello mushroom salad with white cheddar croquettes, and a Kaiser roll with fixings and their French fries. Our lunch server, Lisa, was AMAZING, and SO helpful, she made us want dessert, but we couldn't fit it in. Everything was so good, we came back after dinner for dessert. 5 stars!! We picked this spot for our 1st wedding anniversary. Our waitress Brittany was super attentive and kind, even when we could tell it was busy. The place is loud and lively, and we loved looking at all the decor (it used to be a bank)! I got the shrimp and grits and my husband got the special, a 16 oz ribeye. On our annual Girls Trip, based on reviews, we made reservations at The General Ledger. The restaurant did not disappoint. The atmosphere is adorable , the staff friendly and best of all the food was great. I had the Fried Chicken Paillard which was very tasteful. The chicken was juicy and the entire dish was nice and lite. To add to our evenings enjoyment we were celebrating two birthdays and each were given a lovely dessert. The best parts about the GL are the location, setting, ambiance, bar, and service (Valerie was so excellent), and wine list. The food is a bit hit or miss, but the hits are really good. First, if you enjoy bourbon, try their "S'mores Old Fashioned" Don't worry it's not sweeter than a regular old fashioned but their use of bitters is fantastic. Well done barkeeper team!!! Second, if they put quail on the menu, you must try it. This was some of the best quail I ever had in a special. Absolutely delicious. Also, we really liked the ruben, but the cornbread and the chocolate chip cookies were both too sweet for our taste. The caesar dressing also didn't have the "punch" that one expects from sardines. Third, their wine list is pretty good and mark ups are modest, so there are some good deals to be found. Fourth, this is right on main street in an old bank. It's such a cool setting. read more

Sooooo, we ordered drinks. Mine didn't come until I asked a second time after our food arrived. They were out of portobello, mushroom burgers, so two of us ordered burgers, one medium rare and the other medium. The server reversed the burgers, which wasn't noticed, until after the burgers were dressed, and bitten into. Instead of medium rare, I had a medium burger. The medium rare burger got sent back. I ordered the peanut ginger slaw, and got plain old coleslaw with lots of mayo. I asked and was told that we got the peanut ginger slaw. The server was sweet, but she needed to listen and pay attention to details so she didn't have to apologize so much. read more

10/10 I had the ribeye with croquettes and green beans. It was the best ribeye I have ever had! We were seated at the bar even though we didn't have a reservation and I'm so glad we were given the chance to dine at the general ledger. They have this really cool vault in the restaurant that you can enjoy dinner in. I thought this was super unique. The owner came around and spoke with guests, she spoke with my neighbor Peggy Sue, who is a regular at the restaurant. Peggy Sue raved about the restaurant and gave me suggestions on the menu. If you ever stop here to eat, make sure to ask for Luke. What a great server he was; very attentive and kept our drinks full. We were a party of 8 people and he took our orders correctly. Also would highly recommend making a reservation to be seated inside the vault (about 8-10 people comfortably). The ambiance inside the vault is quieter than the rest of the restaurant. We were able to hear each other's conversation and talk without yelling. We would recommend the corn bread skillet and fried green tomatoes for the appetizer. The restaurant had a good ambiance with the whiskey display at the bar and the old bank documents on the wall. The service was excellent with both bartenders and server. We started with the stuffed mushrooms which were excellent. I had the Pescatore Pasta with scallops, shrimp and squid. The flavor was good but I could have used a little more spice. My wife had the Prime Rib which was cooked perfect and tasted the same. Dessert, Cookie skillet, took a little long but there were several large parties and we were in no rush. We were referred here by one of the locals, and because of that we didn't have reservations. However, that didn't keep the staff from turning us away. We were greeted by the friendly smiles and seated right away. The ambiance was nice, I wouldn't say cozy, but it was nice. You walk in to a view of a bar to the left and a vault in front of you, which you can dine in. The waiter suggested the corn bread as an appetizer, and it did not disappoint. Moist and full of sweet flavor, I could not pin point the sweetness! My husband got the salmon and I got the trout. Both were a good portion and rich in flavor. I had a hard time putting it in words. It's a must try! We were so full by the end, we decided to take the skillet cookie to go. It didn't look as pretty in the togo box so I didn't post it, but I would also suggest to take it home or eat it there. I highly recommend this place, will return next time I visit. read more

Last week, we decided to try out General Ledger for dinner. It was highly recommended by a local buddy and we were very impressed with our visit. The restaurant is in an old bank building. You can reserve a table in the old vault. We made reservations the night before and arrived early. We took a seat at the well stocked bar to enjoy a cocktail before dinner. They had a nice bourbon selection that was reasonably priced. We grabbed a table as soon as it was time for our reservation. Once at the table, our service was great. We looked over the menu and decided to start with a few appetizers. We went with the skillet corn bread and stuffed mushrooms. For our main meals, we went with the blackened pork chop and reuben sandwich. I substituted some white cheddar croquetas for the mashed potatoes that came with the chop Our apps came out quickly and they looked amazing. The corn bread was served with a big scoop of honey butter on top. It melted perfectly over the top of the bread. We cut our slices and noticed it was quite airy on texture and swimming in butter. I wasn't mad about that in the least. The flavor and texture was absolutely perfect. It was probably some of the best corn bread I have had. We shared the stuffed mushrooms. They were very unique in the flavor, but the combo worked. The sauce was so good that we asked for an order of bread to soak up every last bit. Our mains came out right after we finished our apps. The blackened pork chop was topped with a bacon onion jam. The sear and tenderness was spot on. Really enjoyed every bit of that chop. The croquetas were a treat, crunchy and rich. The Reuben sandwich was incredible as well. The house cured corned beef was perfection. Overall, we really enjoyed our experience here. The food, drink, and service were all top notch. I look forward to our next trip back to the cabin so we can revisit The General Ledger for some other tasty menu items. Highly recommended. read more

This restaurant has it going on! We sat at the bar because we didn't want to wait 1/2 hr (6:30pm on Wed.) for a table. We ordered the Pecan crusted trout and skillet corn bread. Went here for dinner with my family, this place is adorable! Staff were so welcoming and friendly. Just wish it was a little bit bigger inside it felt slightly cramped, but that did not make affect my experience in the slightest. The server we had I can't remember his name but he was so funny, and helpful. He was so smiley and witty which we loved. He gave us such good recommendations on food, the pasta special they had was delicious! Seasoned perfectly, those croquettes were also super yummy, don't even get me started on that cornbread! The only thing I will say is the steak was good but just slightly over seasoned, but other than that perfectly cooked. I also got a side Caesar salad which was amazing, the amount of dressing was perfect and the croutons are made from the cornbread which I thought was interesting but they were very good. We had reservations for 6. Once we arrived we noticed the vault was available so we asked if we could be seated in there. The vault is private, but would feel cramped if we had 8 to 10 people. However, the actual vault is pretty cool to see. We each ordered salads and appetizers. The Ledger Goat Cheese sale is amazing! If you order a different salad then boo you! For an appetizer we ordered Deviled Ham & Pimento cheese. As advertised the crackers are Ritz Crackers. I felt they could've used some fancier crackers to make this dish even better. Pimento cheese was amazing. Our entrees were all great. My only complaint is the Swordfish Entree is supposed to be served over Quinoa, but it was definitely served over Pearl Couscous. Nonetheless I prefer couscous over quinoa so it was great. Giving this a 3 star because it was better than average, but this location in a tourist town could have something 5 star. read more
