We loved this place! We ate at the bar and had the most awesome bartender. He was super helpful and very nice. We had the cornbread, which was delicious, then the ledger goat cheese salad followed by the cedar plank salmon with this wonderful kale salad and a side of rice. Everything was done to perfection. I wish I would have remembered to take pictures of the cornbread and salad but it looked delicious so we dug right in. We made reservations for this restaurant after our wine tour. Our reservations were for 5pm however, we arrived around 4:30pm. They allowed us to be seated despite arriving early. I ordered the 16oz steak & substituted the potato croquettes for mashed potatoes... Great choice by the way! It's came with seasoned veggies as the second side (green beans). The steak was very juicy & flavorful! Idk what type of lemon butter sauce drizzled over the steak but it was so good! Definitely the biggest steak I've ever ordered so I had leftovers for later. I also ordered the crispy crab fritters as an appetizer. Surprisingly, those were good as well. The sauce tasted a bit like marinara sauce but more flavored. The steak was about $40 and the fritters were $16. I was definitely satisfied & would recommend this restaurant if you're in the area. read more

During a weekend stay in Blue Ridge, we looked up local places to eat and found The General Ledger. A quaint restaurant in Downtown Blue Ridge, General Ledger was a very cute find. What takes this place over the top is the service. Mitshella was incredible nice and attentive to our needs. She understood the menu and was honest with her recommendations (she told us that the staff harvested a couple of the herbs on the menu!). The food was good. We ordered a good variety from their menu (Seared Tuna salad - dressing in PHENOMENAL, Divers Sea Scallops, Trout - must try, the mussels - meh) and also got several items to-go. Drinks were... okay. We ordered the watermelon sugar high (changed the vodka to tequila) and... it was way too sweet (our fault, it's in the name). But we'll be back! read more

My wife and I drove here from Nashville to ride the train and spend a few nights in the mountains. I don't even know where to start with this little Gem of a Restaurant. We started out with a cast iron skillet of cornbread! Absolutely delicious!! Next my wife ordered the goat cheese salad. She thinks this is the best Salad she's ever had!! She liked the Salad so much that she now makes this Salad at home. It's now in the rotation permanently!! I had the Reuben Sandwich with a side of Red Potatoes!! Very good! The setting of the general ledger is very unique with a bank vault as the "private party" room in the center of the restaurant. We started with the cornbread as an appetizer and it didn't disappoint. The Reuben I had was one of the best in recent memory, and that's coming from a Reuben snob. The family both had the pecan crusted trout and it was wonderful as well. Lastly, we had the blueberry cobbler, and it was so delicious I forgot to take a photo. Bruce did a great job serving us from the get. Very personable and fun to be around for the whole family. We went to General Ledger for dinner, this place is so awesome and is in an old bank building...the vault/safe is still there and used as part of the restaurant! We started our meal with Crispy Crab Fritters (sorry no pic)...they were so yummy! Then we ordered the Blackened Pork Chop, White Cheddar Shrimp & Grits, Pecan Crusted Trout, and the Classic Ruben for dinner. Everything was really good. The Shrimp and Grits also came with some andouille sausage that had a nice little kick to it. We ended our meal with the skillet cookie...so good. We have been coming to The General Ledger several times a year since they opened and I've been ordering the pecan crusted trout every time. Over this time, I have experienced fewer and fewer pecans and less crusting at each experience. This time it was served with no pecans at all with no noticeable crusting. I had discussed with my server the importance of the pecans when I made my initial order and discussed again my disappointment when it arrived naked from the kitchen. Server tried to rectify by bringing some chopped pecans (I used) and a some miscellaneous sauce (not used). While the trout was cooked nicely, it in no way resembles expectations set by menu description or dated pictures in yelp reviews. OWNERS....It is time to review the menu and make updates. If you don't want to make a "crust of or with (noticeable) pecans" remove that part of the wording. You offer a nice enough product but the diner may leave disappointed and write a lengthy review detailing how things could have been better. read more

We ordered the pimento and ham app as well as the mushroom app. Both were filling, delicious and promptly brought out. We even had ample leftovers. We ordered waters all around for our party of 5 as well as local crazy beers--yummy! We ordered two Reuben's with peanut/ginger cole slaw (bland slaw but not too bad), kale salad (yummy), portobello sandwich with fries, kids butter noodles & kids grilled cheese with fries. Companions had the steak and beet salad. Beets were described as "roasted", but they said they were just plain canned beats but the rest of the salad was tasty. I had the portobello mushroom salad on focaccia. I love roasted red pepper and there was a huge slab under the portobello. Along with a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc, it was a very nice lunch on our way to Mercier for our fall apple fix. read more

I was in Blue Ridge with my wife and our two sons (post college age) were driving up from Atlanta after work on the Friday night of Memorial Day weekend. We did not look for a place to eat until about 8:45 pm and by this time, most places were closed or said it was too close to closing time to seat us. We walked into the General Ledger, and they could not have been more accommodating -- they had no problem seating us right before they were going to close and they made it clear the full menu was still available. We all had fish dishes for dinner and every one of them was excellent. We even stayed for coffee and dessert which was tasty, and the staff never gave us a feeling we were being rushed. We were seated in the bar area and it looked like a friendly bar scene too. Nice to find a place that accommodated us a bit late with such good food and friendly and excellent service. read more

We found this place on a whim. Pregnant and hungry after leaving the orchard I checked Yelp for help. After seeing this place was 4 mins away and opening for dinner at 4pm we would be there right on time. From the outside it may not look like much but I can tell you if you happen to find yourself here, you've stumbled across a gold mine! Excellent, excellent food! From the crab croquettes appetizer to the main dish special and the white chocolate bread pudding everything was stellar! The service was exceptional Sam took great care of us and Jeremiah bought us the delicious cornbread bc he felt we had to try it, lol he was right. Honestly-I don't know if they have anything bad on the menu but if I'm ever back in blue ridge this is now a must stop. They also do live music. Only redeeming quality of this place is the drinks. The bartenders did a great job and served great drinks. We waited an hour for lunch, standard for a tourist town. We checked the menu beforehand and were ready to order as soon as we sat down. We ordered cornbread and got it quickly, but it was half burnt. After this, we waited an hour and 15 minutes for our lunch to be delivered. We ordered one salad, a soup and grilled cheese, a burger, and a Reuben. When the food was finally delivered, the salad was hot and wilted, and the burger was extremely rare and inedible (ordered medium). The other two meals were decent according to the people who ordered. Overall, we were super disappointed considering the other good reviews. We are tourists and come once a year but will not ever be returning. read more

The place has tons of character and a robust menu! The cream on top was the service. Bruce was our server and he was incredibly personable and passionate about their food and provided stunning service. It was a very enjoyable evening and there was not an ounce of room for improvement. That's high marks coming from me! Unfortunately, we were so into the food, we failed to take a single pic! Haha However, the portions were hearty and the taste was delicious. Here's a rundown of what we had: Oysters Rockefeller - flavorful and large! Pork Chop - massive and tasty! Chicken Pasta - hearty portion and hearty taste yet light Special of the day - Branzino Fish - light, flaky and delicious with sun dried tomato risotto and squash medley For dessert, we had the skillet cookie with ice cream (takes 15 minutes but worth every minute of the wait and a slice of key lime pie (homemade and delicious). To top it off, one of the two owners (husband and wife) came by the table to check in. She was actively engaged and there was no job she wasn't pitching in to do (running food, clearing dishes, seating folks, checking in with each table etc.). The steak was very bland, the fried green tomato's batter wasn't finished cooking. The cornbread was very good, but after the appetizers we were let down with the entrees.
