We stopped by randomly while visiting the Carlsbad Village one early Sunday morning and it was poppin-- this is a sign The Goods, must really be good ! Upon entering, it was cute and cozy . Everything looked clean and there were about 4-6 tables with bench shared seating on one side and a few options for dining outside . There was a line that was kind of all over the place--I was a bit confused on where it started . I walked in on the side where the cash wrap was on my right, so the line started at the opposite end, but it just looked like one big blob . Once we were in line, things were smoother . We were helped by a rather timid employee and while she was kind, it was really difficult to hear her over the glass shield as this was our first time visiting . After finally placing our orders, we payed $25 for 4 pastries, and luckily found seats inside-- let me tell ya about them ! JALAPENO HAM AND CHEDDAR CROISSANT-- The croissant itself was sooo fresh, buttery, and perfectly crisp . There was even a cheese blanket that had crisped up on the bottom that they had left that was a nice delicious surprise . Flavors came together well and was such a lovely bite-- highly recommend for the savory pastry lover ! CINNAMON ROLL-- This was probably the largest and most fluffiest cinnamon roll I've ever seen ! After the first bite, I was shocked to learn the frosting was not too sweet, and just how we liked ! It was the perfect amount of cream cheese and sugar that complimented the chewy bun . We really enjoyed this one a lot ! NUTELLA BUTTERCREAM-- Another amazing donut ! I really admire the balance of not too sweet -- it really gives the light to the fresh made fluffy dough . Nutella buttercream was a DREAM ! CLASSIC GLAZED-- Simplicty at its finest . MUST TRY ! Overall, we're really happy to randomly stumble upon The Goods, as we definitely will be returning customers . The cinnamon kruger- tastes just like a churro. It was warm and fresh right out of the oven. It was a little too gummy for me, but was the staffs favorite! The nutella butter cream- my personal favorite. The nutella butter cream is whipped to perfection. It's light & sweet but not too rich. The donut is the perfect consistency. It is light and fluffy and the cinnamon sugar coating gives a great flavor. The boston creme- it's got a dark chocolate glaze that is more on the bitter than sweet side. The creme doesn't have a ton of flavor but isn't super sweet either. If you don't love sweet this is the donut for you. Not my personal favorite. The apple fritter- the perfect amount of crunch with a soft inner layer. The glaze was so yummy & it had apple slices in it that were the perfect consistency. Loved this one and I don't love apple fritters. It's the cutest shop, nicest staff & such a fun environment. Definitely recommend going right when they open so you get them fresh out of the oven! I love the donuts here. Even their cake donuts are super soft. I had the brown butter cake donut and it was my favorite of all of them. We also tried a jelly filled berry donut, passion fruit citrus filled, a Tahitian vanilla glazed, a churro cruller, and a chocolate ganache with sprinkles. I wasn't able to try the vanilla or chocolate ones...because kids and they didn't share. The churro cruller was also very tasty. I didn't care for the passion fruit/citrus filled one nor the berry jelly filled one. But to be fair, l am not a fan of filled donuts. The employees are friendly and the store is kept organized and clean. I come here about once per year and would come more often if l was closer. Next time l will try more yeast donuts as they're more to my preference. But l will always get a brown butter cake donut as well. They're just too good not to get. I ordered a vanilla latte and asked for it sweetened. When l picked it up the note said it was made "extra sweet" which concerned me. But to be honest, it barely had any sweetener in it. I prefer a sugar substitute but didn't think they had any in their store. I was incorrect in that assumption. As l went to grab a lid and some napkins, they had a bowl of sugar substitute packages as well. My total was a little over $30 which brings 6 donuts and a latte to around $4.30/ea. not a cheap eatery. But they are definitely made with higher end ingredients and are super fresh & pillow soft. They make the drinks right in front of you so I watched everything the young lady was doing. I asked for cream in my Americano and she handed me a carton of half and half. Donuts and drinks were 10/10. Atmosphere was a 10/10. Service was a 2/10 in my opinion. The two young girls (blonde and curly haired) working the counter don't seem to realize that they are at work. Customers at the counter and they continue to maintain gossip while serving people. It was very unprofessional. Our second time here. I really don't understand the hype. The photos and description online shows this prestigious place that looks and feels clean and elevated. We walk in, and it feels very dirty inside. The doughnuts we got were very sweet. I give it to them for trying to be something elevated, but I think they miss the mark. Donuts are good. Review is for the odd service practice here. When we came in to order, there were already 2 cups of coffee on the counter. We waited for 15 minutes after paying for our coffee while we ate our donuts. While waiting, the employee announced that two coffees were waiting on the counter. We told her we were also waiting on our coffees, and she told us we could have the ones on the counter. These coffees were uncovered and sitting there for more than 15 minutes. When we said we'd like a fresh cup because those have been sitting out, she asked if we were sure. I don't think it's acceptable to be served coffee that has been sitting out for unknown times, especially after we pointed it out. The coffee could have been returned by a customer for all we know? They do have a variety of options and they don't just have a variety of frosting flavors, the actual donuts are different flavors. Tried the berry, the pineapple coconut and the maple. The berry filling was runny but tasted good. The pineapple coconut had a lot going on. The texture was gluten free, if you know, you know. The berry was a bit grainy but overall it was ok. For $6 per donut I expected more, especially with the Yelp reviews. Maybe these are the only gf donuts in Carlsbad ‍. My dad's favorite are Boston crème and the other morning when I came to try one it was amazing. I picked these up for his birthday Sunday but was so embarrassed to find one of them had no crème at all and the other two were disappointing as well. The Goods is definitely an upscale donut experience (prices reflect this) but I'm quite happy we tried the spot. While the Vermont Maple donut was average, the Chocolate Ganache was absolutely phenomenal. I love, love dark chocolate and the flavor and texture of the ganache was just incredible. Not too sweet - just perfect. My husband enjoyed his Boston Cream and his Churro Cruller. I love milk with my donuts but usually you can never get good milk at donut places. For maybe the first time in memory, The Goods offered a cold, delicious glass of nonfat milk - exactly what I wanted.
