Drink menu was pretty cool but everything was crazy expensive. Unless you're a lightweight you can't get drunk here without breaking the bank. Wait for drinks was pretty short though and the bartenders are cool and nice. I am obsessed with the ghost ship portion of The Grand, it has amazing interior decoration on the level of what you'd see in a pro haunted house or Disneyland! My favorite bar ever (aesthetic wise) as a horror and pirate junkie. Unfortunately the ambiance of this amazing venue was significantly diminished by the insane volume of the dj in the other part of the bar :( if they could dampen the sound somewhat, I feel like it would make the ghost ship more enjoyable and immersive. What I will say is that during r&b sundays the vibe is good, it's definitely ALOT more of women to men in terms of ratio but still a good time can be had ! I've been here a few times and I love that friendliness of the energy here ... I know it is a lot of Chicago that is in the Phoenix Metropolitan area however as a East Coast girl, I wish sometimes when you go to functions such as this it was more inclusive and that they recognize people from all over. Won't be back here. The woman security guard is rude AF. Pocketed my personal pepper spray. Listen I get that pepper spray isn't allowed in the club. The Grand has multiple personalities! This facility is broken down into several areas. There's a main room, outdoor patio area and the "Ghost Ship" room. That's three if you aren't counting the adjacent Palazzo or Club Downtown. The main room offers both coffees and adult beverages. Feel like stopping in early in the day? No problem. In the mood for a late night drink? They've got you. The music is good and the staff is friendly. I haven't had a chance to visit the Ghost Ship, but I hope the same is true for that area. I do wish they would put a sign up at the door when hosting an event billed for "The Grand" when it's actually at the Palazzo. There's no sense in walking into one area and waiting to learn it's at the other. Parking is tight. I wish they monitored who parks there, given people headed to businesses north of the Grand like the free parking. Pro Tip: If you're driving and looking for the parking lot, maps won't tell you which lane to be in. Head northbound and keep to the far left lane. If you're right of the Light Rail tracks, plan on waiting for a green light. After you make a left turn, hope that no one is blocking your path to the lot entrance or you'll be taking the scenic route around the block and back again. read more

Really cool place! I went here for the spooky market tonight and we had a fun time. For my drink I just asked for something sweet with tequila and they made me a drink that was super good! I think it had strawberry and orange. My husband had a beer. We also got a slice of chocolate cake and a pb cookie to bring home. The chocolate cake was delicious. Excited to have made it out for the opening night of Ghost Ship. I'm very understanding of the fact that there are always some hiccups when a place first opens so I certainly take that into consideration, and I'm hoping a return visit after some wrinkles are ironed out will earn them 5 stars because the potential is absolutely there. Drinks: first two drinks ordered (Zombie and "Dark and Horny" were large tasty and served in interesting glasses. Took quite awhile to receive (service in general was very slow, very nice server and seemed to genuinely care, just everything took forever). The remaining drinks ordered (Bananas Alexander, Funky Monkey, Black Cockatoo and Oaxaca Dead) were all good but size was significantly smaller and served in all the same dull glasses (taking away from the Tiki style experience). Dates stuffed with Chorizo were fantastic! And table next to us ordered sliders that looked pretty dang good and generously portioned. Decor overall was cool, but in the upstairs corner with the canon it's a little lacking. Where we sat kind of just stared at the other people and a black wall that could really use something visually appealing. Coins worth $10 toward the pre-paid amount that could be kept as a souvenir or used to pay part of the tab was a really good idea! We did keep one. Lastly when we booked the reservation we knew of the 2 hour time frame, we had hoped to get 4 drinks in that time, but with the speed being snail paced it was 15 minutes before our time ended and we were trying to get at least a 3rd round. So by the time the third time arrived there was about 5 minutes left in our reservation so we had to chug the last drink and clear out as the server came rushing up and said he needed our card and coins to close it out quickly and get us out for the next reservation, seemed we were more aware this was the case than he was until that moment. Like I mentioned we expect they'll figure it all out and this place will be amazing, I would just suggest maybe waiting a few weeks more before giving it a try otherwise it may be a little frustrating/clunky. read more

How can you not love black light lit menus? Or a spooky cafe? What about a rustic, regal, yet gothic mansion of a study space? This is: The Grand! The coffee, bar, and general store are excellent, staffed with lovely and friendly people that genuinely like working here! Always a good sign. For coffee, I've had a "Butterscotch Latte", and "Lavender White Mocha", and both were excellent! Breanne (bre-an) was the barista and she is very sweet and patient. I was told the baked goods come from a local bakery, Barb's Bakery. I'm always happy when local businesses support each other. The general store is cool too. They told me the owner brings in really neat items, I for instance saw marble candle holders which were as grand as well, The Grand! haha and I snagged them! Excellently priced as well. I've always loved The Grand for its atmosphere and drinks and especially its speakeasy "Sanctum" where you can enjoy The Grand's live music from above on Friday and Saturday nights. I only recently came back to try the food and it was not as great as its bar scene unfortunately. I had "The Grand Burger" but the bacon was not cooked all the way. I also had the "Caramel Apple Waffle" but it tasted cheap, I was hoping for a much richer batter like Matt's Big Breakfast's (across the street) Belgian Waffle. All in all, I'll be back for the coffee, and drinks on the weekend, but I don't think I'll be eating the food anytime soon. This coffee spot is actually a nice place to hang at any time of day considering they're open all day everyday. I also see a lot of people come here to study. Personally it would be a distraction since it's a pretty open space and people seem to come and go. Plus they have pretty good music playing but still the Grand provides chill vibes. Cool little spot with some solid ambience. Sat on the patio for a minute before I was accosted by the homeless, but you kinda get used to that living in downtown Phoenix. Decent coffee (at $4 a cup, it should be stellar). EXCELLENT Cinnamon roll. There's a full bar, a restaurant, a little store...pretty cool spot. The best part of this place is the employees. The Grand is a grand place! I hold many special memories here studying very late at night during college. It was nice having a place that opened that late because not many coffee shops stay open until 11 or even 12 pm. I have only ever had coffee and pastries here, never tried their drinks. Unfortunately I was not much of a fan of their pastries as they were a bit dry, but thoroughly enjoyed their coffee. Regarding cleanliness, I think they could definitely step it up a notch. There were many times where the floors and tables were dirty but I am sure they were just too busy to get to it. The Grand deserves all the stars out there, because it is just what it's name says...it's pretty darn GRAND. I am so thankful I was introduced to this place. A 24/7 coffeeshop/eatery/outdoor patio/study atmosphere/hangout/bar place! Seriously, what can get better than that? Ambience- Inside: I'm the type of person who likes a little background noise while studying so this place was my ideal arena. I came here on a Sunday afternoon for a good two hours, ordered a flat white and sat at a table and peacefully studied for the GRE. There's an upstairs with more privacy and enclosed areas with lighting and smaller tables for one person. The downstairs has larger tables for group hangouts/group study. Outside: You can sit at the large wood bench-type seating at the outside patio that is SHADED and beautifully surrounded by plants and trees! I always love to see the anomaly of greenery in AZ (although I do love the desert vibes as well). There are also small tables and chairs to sit at outside. Food/Drinks- The food menu is diverse ranging from burgers, mac and cheese, salads, and soup. The coffee menu is pretty unique but at the same time standard with your cold brew, latte, etc. Alcohol Bar: They have a decent sized bar right when you walk in and I noticed on the Sunday that I was there that couples and groups of friends came in to grab a drink at the bar and leave soon after to continue day-drinking. I mentally took a note of doing that with a group of girl-friends one day, too. Great idea! ALSO, their drink menu is super fun, they have strawberry basil margaritas!? say YUM. HIGHLY RECOMMEND: I'm excited to go back to this place at night for a night-cap, but also to study some more and order food. I think this is the perfect place for people who are hiring to take their interviewees here if you are giving more of an informal interview. We showed up at 8:50 for our 9:00pm reservation at Ghost Ship. We didn't get seated until 9:30 which is frustrating considering there's a 2:00 time limit. The server was really friendly and knowledgeable but it took about 20 minutes to get our first round, the next 2 came out much more quickly and they were all delicious when they arrived. I get that everyone gets seated around the same time and there's a flood of drink orders but considering we were seated much later than the other tables I didn't think we'd be competing with other orders so I didn't understand the slow drink service. The last criticism is the nature of the non-refundable prepay reservation. I don't normally have a problem with this, however, when they advertise a food menu that you budget for and then they aren't actually serving food, it becomes a costly problem and now you either have to buy more drinks (not good when you're driving home) or give up the prepay to reach your minimum. Summary PROS: -Friendly Server -Delicious Drinks -Cool Atmosphere CONS: -Long wait despite a reservation -Sold out of food, only alternative is buy more drinks to get money's worth -Slow drink service In all, I'd give it a few more months to work the kinks out but would consider going back read more

When I moved to PHX I was looking for a place to study and be able to grab a coffee and some food and relax. The loft was amazing and the atmosphere was near perfect, makes sense being near ASU. Fast forward to post-pandemic, I was looking for a later night spot to study and apparently near downtown is near impossible and I remembered The Grand. Look it up and see it still says coffee and tea and opened late. I arrived around 7.30. The coffee section did not seem open so I thought. I would get a beer. "What do you have on draft?" "We don't have anything on draft, just cans or bottles" "Oh sorry I saw your drafts section over there, ok what do you have for cans or bottles?" "They are over there"***points to a darkly lit section under where the draft pulls are that is impossible to see So I grab a beer and ask if they have food at all... she brings me a "menu" with 4 items on it and no pricing on it. I order a grilled cheese and grab my beer and sit down and try to log onto the WIFI and can't get logged on. I go to ask about the WIFI and am told they do not have WIFI and I that I should just use a hotspot The food was mediocre at best and the beer, well, was a beer. Total came to 16 dollars. Not the best experience honestly. I have read on here that The Grand cannot afford to have WIFI ... that is so ridiculous. I see the owner mentioned this was never meant to be a WIFI spot. What does that even mean... almost every business has WIFI. WIFI is not a spot.... very sad turn of events here. At least if you are going to be a "bar" serve something on draft. read more

I like this place, there's a lot of things going for it, the 24 hour coffee service, the fun bar, the pastries, the full service kitchen, the seasonal cocktails, the eclectic staff with the punch you in the face whit and just the right amount of snark and innuendo to keep it fresh and exciting. The grand is also one of the few places in the downtown Phoenix area that you can park your car off street in a parking lot. Just don't drink and drive, k?! I can't believe that I've never had a cronut before, I feel like I've missed the fad, but this place had them on the menu, so I gave them a try. I now see what all the fuss was about. A disappointment. We got there on a Friday at 8pm. Realized we had to wait in line, pay the $20 per person "deposit" and wait an hour to be sat in the Pirate Ship. Once they took us in, we were crammed like sardines with strangers into the 2nd floor ship. I was told my seat was a luggage rack type thing, 6 inches from the floor (see pic). Nope. The Grand is seriously a hidden gem.. I stepped in to what seemed like heaven but only a tad more demonic themed (not off putting at all). My favorite thing about the Grand is a toss up between their Iced Chai's and the Vegan Breakfast burrito. I don't think I could choose between the two...I literally have to have them every time I'm at the Grand. The Grand literally has it all, a delicious bakery selection that includes vegan options, a full fledged bar (glasses of wine are $5 whaaat), and a kitchen that offers nearly everything. Oh and did I forget to mention that they also have a market attached as well as a speakeasy up top?! Don't forget they are open 24/7 every single DAY! I don't think it gets any better than that. Now I have to be completely honest, the only downside to this place is they are almost always out of the vegan burrito. Which isn't terrible for those that snag those delicious babies up, but for the rest of us that are trying to get a bite to eat and want some Just Egg...its a struggle. There are literally articles about this place getting started and catering to every group, students, late night cocktail crowds, etc. Owner now says their establishment was never about students using their spot as a study hall. Cool. Change your demographic and establishment but don't be so condescending to people who have been loyal to this establishment. Until this is under new management avoid this as your coffee shop. Wonderful hidden gem with a variety of traditional and crafted Cocktails. I decided to get an old fashioned that was strong, smooth, and easy. For my second I got a whiskey mule, which was unique tasting and so delicious. Again they are strong drinks, so depending on your tolerance one may be enough. I went for two and that was maybe too much for me. Their drinks were great and so was the relaxed and cool atmosphere. I definitely would go back for another cocktail or two. read more

Mold! Just bought 2 slices of dessert. The red velvet was stale and when we took a bite of a strawberry it tasted bad. When we looked at it in the light it was definitely moldy! June 2nd I visited the grand. I arrived to the grand at 6pm and sat down at the bar and waited to to be served for 30 minutes now. 4 employees walked past me and never acknowledged me. There's another gentleman that is setting at the bar across from me and has been seen 3 times from the waitress while I been waiting over 30 minutes. The employees are socializing with each other while I continue to wait to be severed... I'm the only black person... not sure what's up. I've been here before and always sit at the same spot. I've been to The Grand about a dozen times and I have to say that it's one of my favorite coffee shops in the Phoenix metro area. I like to get work done at cafes/coffee shops. This place has LOTS of seating area indoors, outdoors, AND upstairs. There's a good amount of outlets all over the place for your electronics. They are open 24/7 and since I'm a night owl, the time I've spent here is mostly late nights. The indoors is mostly pretty dark, but there are patio areas outside so if you are working here at night, it can be nice outdoors (yes, even in this AZ heat). I usually order the iced mocha latte with soy. I've never tried any of the food items here, so I can't speak for those. There is a parking lot east of the coffee shop, but it's pretty small. My backup parking spot is across the street by the Phoenix Public Market, which is not a far walk at all. Recommend this place. Love it. I will keep coming back as long as I live in Phoenix! P.S. I've been to The Grand here and there throughout the years. However lately, it feels like I'm a regular with the amount of times I have came here with my friends. There is a great ambiance that just keeps drawing us here. Whether inside or outside the coffee shop, we sit at their tables and converse. And having that kind of comfortable environment is the reason why I can be here for hours on end, just talking. The drinks are amazing as well. Lately, I've been obsessed with the cafe mocha with hazelnut. When I'm not sipping on this, they have a delicious dirty chai that is exceptional. On top of that, it provides a great view of downtown Phoenix in all its glory. The Grand is a fantastic place and I foresee future quests to this spot. read more

This is such a great vibe! Feels steampunk, pirate-esque & just fun. Very laid-back atmosphere, intentionally decorated in a great way with fab details & a good list of tea & coffee options. I've heard the food here is great but did not try this time. Don't know how this has such a low rating on here when their fb page from Google had a much higher one but I'll be coming back for sure & adding it one of my fav spots when I'm downtown Phoenix. I was greeted kindly upon arrival. My company was great & we stayed a long time & enjoyed the random 90s playlist mix & talked. What a unique venue! I may have visited Amsterdam in the past which is what this coffee shop used to be, but regardless, the atmosphere is a trip! I love the steam punk-train station vibe going on here (as another reviewer described). I agree with that description! I was hesitant to review because I didn't actually have coffee here. I had a Smoke and Cigars cocktail. Don't judge me since I had this on a Monday night but holidays are rough!! It kicked my butt! It was probably one of the strongest scotch drinks I've ever imbibed. I'm fairly certain if I had been fighting a cold the alcohol in it would've surely killed those germs. I'm thinking next time of sticking to an Old Fashioned, my usual. Back to the atmosphere, there are 2 stories of areas to sit and enjoy coffee, or a cocktail in my case! There is a large outdoor area too so this place is great for large groups. I guess several literary groups meet here once a week or so! Parking is on the north side but you have to come from south to get to the parking area and stay in the super left lane on the left side of the tram tracks to get there so it is slightly confusing, but at least the parking area is free once you do find it. Very cool vibe and perfect for a downtown feel. The night club next door gets packed on the weekends, so parking can be difficult. Uber or get a ride so you can enjoy drinks and not worry about parking and drink your drinks! We can back in the morning for breakfast/lunch and it was beautiful!
