The company I work at has the Green Olive cater work lunches. The food has always been good. I had never eaten at the restaurant until today. I was driving by and saw it (it's next to the large Skechers outlet). Where to start? AMBIANCE: You'll eat outdoors under a covered patio. It's clean. You order at a counter and they bring the food to you. You'll eat on melamine plates with disposable plastic utensils. I don't have an issue with any of that but if you're looking for a fancier Mediterranean eatery, this isn't the place. SERVICE: Who I assume is either the owner or manager, gets a zero out of 10 for service. I witnessed him being rude to the person ordering in front of me. He seemed irritated when I placed my order. I pointed out the price he charged was more than the posted menu. He didn't seem to give a f*** but he was aware it was $1 more. Anyhow, I was hungry and it wasn't going to break me. Later, he was irritated when I mentioned the fountain beverage was flat and, without apologizing (didn't ask for an apology but usually I see people in the hospitality business apologize for the inconvenience or show some gratitude for getting some feedback) and said "why don't you just grab a bottle or can out of the fridge?" The tone he used was more like "don't you know you should do that and why are you bothering me?" So, when my food came and it wasn't what I thought I ordered I went back to the counter and he was like "I asked you if this is what you wanted?" I was looking at the picture above the name of the dish (which was nondescriptive). So, partly my fault for not clarifying with him what's on the plate. Given that he was annoyed with guy in front of me who didn't seem to be asking a lot of questions, made me not ask him for a description. A simple arrow or lightly drawn box or different spacing on the menu would make it clearer what dish went with what name. Honestly, the service is what is driving the star rating. FOOD: The chicken kebab was good. Juicy chicken even though it was white meat. The fried meatballs were okay. I thought it was kibbe from the appearance but there was no bulgar crust. The yellow rice was a nice accompaniment along with the salad. The hummus was smooth but perhaps a bit too garlic forward for my taste. The fountain beverage was a hard pass. I'd stick to bottles/cans if you want a soda. In summary, this place is good for catering although I don't know who takes the catering order. The service on this single visit was atrocious based solely on this one employee who looked like he wasn't having a good day. The food today was good (enough). There aren't a ton of Mediterranean places anymore but this isn't a place I'd drive extra to eat at. Would I eat here at the restaurant again? If the other people I was with wanted to, yes. I was surprised that there was a franchise The Green Olive in Gardena. I go to the original restaurant in Downey CA and decided to try this location for lunch time. The food tasted very different from Downey location. I always order the house salad, salmon skewer and steak skewer (med rare). The steak was very tough and dry- I ordered it med rare and it was over cooked and hard. Also the flavor was very off. The salmon was cooked great however the flavor was very different. If you try the food at the Downey location you will be surprised and very satisfied. Unfortunately this location was not good for my liking. At least I tried and now I know. Aside from that the shrimps had great flavor. The salmon was plain but paired with the bell peppers it was pretty good. ALSO the salmon had bones, almost chocked a few times, beware. The meal was of course with hummus and a salad. The salad dressing had only garlic flavor so I gave both my salad and hummus to my wife. The chicken chunks were dry but were well seasoned. To me they tasted like chicken one could get at a taco stand as opposed to Mediterranean flavors. All three of us agreed that the rice most likely sat under a heating lamp for various hours because it was very crunchy and it seemed like we were eating Mexican rice instead of the customary basmati rice. My wife could not eat the rice because it was too crunchy. I didn't mind the crunchiness so I finished most of mine. My nephew is a human Dyson so he ate all of his meal. Also the pita bread was not warm so it did not have much homemade taste. If I return I would most likely only order a side of chicken and rice. Again, to me it seemed more like I was eating at a Mexican taco stand than at a Mediterranean restaurant. 3 stars because the dry chicken had good flavor and the rice although crunchy due to over heat exposure it reminded me of Mexican style flavor. read more

The Green Olive has an extensive menu for dining in and taking out (or delivery) and the catering menu is decent too - a good option if you need to feed a crowd. We ordered too much food for 3 people, but we can easily feed another 3 with the leftovers. All of our entrees were as expected. He had #19 The Works...he liked the dolma but wasn't thrilled with the hummus (none of us were), it didn't taste bad, it was just wasn't memorable. Tahini forward and that's about it. The #7 and #10 were good, gyro was tasty but a bit dry; the marinated chicken and the beef kebab were tasty and juicy good. Pita was decent but I've had much better at other places. This one wasn't fluffy which was what I missed. A quick grill stove stop and it was decent dipped in the baba ghanoush, which by the way was my favorite. Garlicky, eggplant deliciousness. Hubbers' choice for dinner. I was all for it because it's been recommended by a few friends and family members to check out should my hunger pangs crave for Mediterranean food. I ordered the chicken schwarma plate. Which consisted of chicken schwarma, yellow rice, hummus, salad, pita bread, green sauce. The schwarma was tasty, much different than what I'm used to, this was more of a wet sauce than the traditional dry. Great spices and herbs. The rice was tasty as well. That's means we are paying the workers salary for the restaurant and driver. So the owners are passing on there workers salary through fees that they hide under fees. Before it was just delivery fee and tip And I place my order with out rice and they still added the rice :( and even though they get your order wrong they still charge you a service fee.
