Heart, healthy, and hearty mung bean soup
Julia R.

Wish I could eat here every day because their "Soul Food" is literally food for my soul. Do you want to feed your soul? Seriously! Do you want to feed your soul through your taste buds and belly? I returned here for the heavenly mung bean soup, but I couldn't resist the fish fry with collard greens today for lunch. Scrumptious collard greens that pack all the nutrition your heart and soul will ever need! The greens are perfectly balanced with savory broth and sweet pickled onions. It came with a side of macaroni and cheese baked so perfectly the noodles dance on your teeth with the "al-dente-rhumba" (I just made up that food-dance!) And the cheese is so melty and buttery you'll want to jam more spoonfuls of their mac & cheese into your mouth before you've even chewed and swallowed the first bite! Please PLEASE go eat here. I can't eat it all myself, I'm so full I'll probably won't have to eat again for a week, but I want this restaurant to stay in business so I can come back here when I'm hungry again. I didn't even tell you about the side orders: 1. Aïoli which I used for the fried fish 2. Lemon vinaigrette which I drank as a beverage! I literally drank the vinaigrette dressing because it's so freaking delicious. 3. Cornbread yum! Homestyle ambience, outdoor seating.

Little treasure spot located in Lihue, on Akahi st. The Greenery cafe is located in the back of a house. The front of the house is a counseling office. So make sure to walk in the back. Out door seating available with limited parking. 2 car parking on the left side of the building. Don't block the entrance. A variety of Vegan/vegetarian, and healthy options. They're a Small business so expect to wait. However, I would recommend calling in your order ahead of time! I love their Mung bean soup, ahi wrap, and mango smoothie

Such a hidden gem! Stopped here for a quick lunch after our helicopter ride. I got a smoothie, fresh fish wrap, and a brownie-so delicious! Of course I forgot to take pics of the food but I've attached some pics of their beautiful garden

So unbelievably fresh. And feels good to support a local business and their awesome staff!

A backyard soul food cafe with healthy vegan options. Made with love and care! You can taste it. Fresh local ingredients too. So happy I finally tried the mung bean coconut soup. It was so nourishing. Service was kind, quick, & delightful. Simple ambiance with no frills but plenty of shade.

This place was not too bad however the pluses did not outweigh the minuses in my opinion. The Greenery is located in an old tiny house behind another old tiny house. It's kinda hard to find if you're not from Kauai. The parking is also very limited so good luck finding a "stall" (you park in the front yard) The reason we checked it out was because it was a "healthy" option however the ahi wrap came with potato chips as its side. I dunno ... to me, it kinda defeated the purpose of checking out a "healthy" eating establishment when chips are your only option as a side. The wrap itself was a good size and was actually tasty BUT it took us almost 30 minutes for us to get our order which consisted of my ahi wrap and my GF's plain old salad. Weird because it seemed like there were a few people working the kitchen but it took a lot longer than expected. A bit stressful because we weren't expecting to wait so long especially since we had a flight back to Oahu and were already a little pressed for time. As for my GF's salad, it was supposed to be a kale salad however they ran out of kale. So they substituted "organic lettuce" according to the worker. From what I tasted and what my GF relayed to me, the salad was a huge disappointment. Dressing had no taste, no kale, and if it weren't for the fruit thrown in, a prewrapped salad from 7-Eleven would've been better. The thing that actually bothered me was that instead of putting up a sign stating that they were out of kale, they kept explaining to almost everyone after us that they were out of kale, how they were substituting "organic lettuce", blah, blah. In case you were wondering, it's a really small place so we were sitting across from the window where you order. (We were waiting about 30 minutes for an ahi wrap/salad remember) So ... all in all ... food was ok, staff was pleasant enough but the rest was meh. There is quite a bit of room for improvement. 3 STARS

Food is good but the wrapping technique needs some improvement. Our wrap collapsed the second we took it out.

A true local experience with a warm aloha welcome!…read more Aloha Craft Cafe is tucked away and yet completely in the center of everything! Smiles are everywhere from the baristas to the servers to the owner/managers and even the other patrons! Everyone seems to know everyone there! On the day I visited, there was a group of local aunties and uncles who brought their melodic voices and ukuleles to sing and serenade in the traditional Hawaiian ways with meles (songs), talk story, and a single flower for the Wahini (women/girls) to tuck behind their ear. Even our little fur baby "Sophia" (nestled in our arms) was greeted in the true aloha spirit! In addition to feeling so welcomed, my vanilla latte and order of bagel with smoked salmon & cream cheese were delicious and filling! We enjoyed eating outside under the umbrella covered tables while still enjoying the soft music and songs of Hawai'i! Highly recommend Aloha Craft Cafe!

The cream cheese filling helps balance the sweetness. There is just one flavor of malasada, but even those not fans of poi will like this malasada. The owner also encouraged us to try the Cocoa Berry Cake Bites by Cousins in the Kitchen; seemed like a special of the week promo item, so it might not be there regularly. OMG it was so fluffy yet moist and definitely not too sweet! Everything you would want a cake to taste like. The hot egg muffy and coffee mocha also hit the spot for a wholesome and complete breakfast. Service is quick, so grabbing something on the go easy. The cafe is not easy to find; if you see government looking buildings, you're going the right way. Look for The Lihue Plantation Ltd. before seeing the Aloha Craft Cafe banner. Parking is plentiful, so no issue to there.

The first night, my husband ordered the prime rib special with mac salad and rice, which was basically his dream come true, and I got the loco moco, which I shared with my toddler. Everything was flavorful, comforting, and exactly what we were craving. We enjoyed it so much that we came back on our final night and ordered the galbi and lechon kawali. Once again, every dish was a hit. The proteins were flavorful and filling, and the mac salad deserves its own shoutout. It may be my favorite mac salad on the island. This is absolutely the kind of place we'll return to on our next visit. It's also conveniently located near the airport, making it a great first stop when you arrive or a last meal before heading home. A couple things to know before you go: parking was easy when we visited, but there isn't any seating. This is very much a pick-up-and-go spot. I'd recommend calling ahead and placing your order so you're not waiting around. Great food, generous portions, and the kind of local spot you hope to find when traveling. We'll definitely be back.

Service: Service was standard. I wouldnt say anything out of the ordinary. Food took a while as it was fairly busy. Tip: I would suggest calling in your order so that its ready by the time you arrive to save on time. Ambiance: This is not a dine-in establishment so not much to say about ambiance in general. We will def be back should we decide to visit Kaua'i again in the future.

I'm no expert…read more... But I have travelled enough by plane that I've learned a few tricks along the way. And when traveling 6 hours across the Pacific Ocean, the last thing you want to be is hungry mid-flight. Sure.... Maybe a couple of bags pretzels and your favorite complementary soft drink will get you through, but not for me. Or maybe you are all about that "fancy" charcuterie board, a bag of Air-Dried beef Jerky and a plastic cup filled with your favorite wine that is offered by the said airline once you hit cruising altitude which will set you back about $27bucks if you're lucky. Just make sure that credit card is ready as no cash is accepted. Well, after experimenting the last few trips we've taken to Kauai with different food options to take on the plane for once we get hungry, we have discovered that Subway is our new best friend. Not only can you customize your sandwich to what you like, but we've noticed that the sandwich stays intact and travels pretty well until it's time to eat. My only advice, get the condiments on the side, otherwise you will have a very soggy sub. So here's how WE do it! While on the way to the airport, we log into our trusty subway app, select the Lihue location and pre-order our sandwiches and chips. Within 15 min or so, we pop into Subway, grab our subs and off to airport security we go. A little X-ray radiation in my sub won't kill me, will it?? Once boarded, happily in my seat hoping that the empty seat next to us is someone that won't mind my 3 crazy kids for six hours; we are read for takeoff! About an hour in the air and well into our cruising altitude when the flight attendants start making their way down the aisle asking what everyone wants to drink and handing out those tiny bag of pretzels, we are anxiously unwrapping our freshly made 6" subs knowing we will soon be filling our bellies with goodness. Meanwhile, the person next to us is drooling with envy... Don't worry, I'll give them our extra bag of pretzels. So... Your next flight home from Kauai, I suggest stopping by Subway in Lihue, grabbing your favorite 6" of 12" sub and remember how happy you will be once you're 35,000 feet in the sky. But as much as you love 'em as I do, please for the sake of everyone else on the plane, hold off on the onions. After an hour or so... They gonna stink! Safe Travels and remember... Eat Fresh!
