5 of us went here for dinner. 1 steak salad, 1 ribeye, and 3 steak and enchiladas. We also ordered the roasted pork nachos which were delicious. I was ordered the steak and enchilada entree. I asked for a rare cooked steak, it came more like medium and was tough. The other 2 had the same experience where the steak was not cooked to order and was tough. The enchilada was good, the sauce has really good flavor. The ribeye was ordered rare and was delivered over cooked and tough. The mashed potatoes where really good. The restaurant itself is pretty small, but the food is pretty amazing! My husband and I started with the guacamole and queso, which was really good! The chips were warm and you get plenty. My husband got the Rotisserie Pork Chop, and it came with two good sized chops, he said it was amazing. He took home half of it and it was pretty much an entire second meal! I ordered the Surf & Turf, which had a filet mignon and shrimp. It was delicious, the steak was very tender. I got mashed potatoes and a Caesar salad as my sides and they both were delicious! The only negative thing I'd have to say is the space is really an issue. There's two restrooms, one men's and one women's, the women's restroom didn't even lock... The walk way to the restrooms was also pretty narrow, and gets tight when other people are waiting as well. Overall a good experience! read more

Found this place on accident on a trip into San Angelo from working in Big Lake. The staff was beyond great and very attentive. We started with a seafood appetizer (which was amazing) and quick. I decided on the grill pork chops and my husband did the bacon wrapped shrimp - OMGosh!! Everything was GREAT!! Even the dang vegetables and sides were awesome. We literally finished the app and the food was already out and it was pretty full in there. I would definitely recommend this place and we will definitely be back - I'll drive the 140 mile round trip for good food like that! Rotisserie pork chop dish was to die for! The mashed pitatoes were nicely seasoned and the broccoli was cooked perfectly and sprinkled with some sort of delicious garlic/cheese mix. The pork chops were tender, juicy, and seasoned nicely. For $21 you cannot go wrong. We also got the nachos which were great but could have used a few more chips. We met some friends here for dinner. We have been quite a few times and enjoyed it. We got drinks at the bar while waiting for a table. We had great drinks and the bartenders were fast and friendly. We got our table, ordered our meals, and that is where it went downhill. Brandon was our server. I ordered ribs ( new to us on the menu and I love some good ribs) My ribs were very dry and not very good. When Brandon asked how our meal was, I told him that it wasn't very good and the ribs were extremely dry. His response was "ok" and he left. He never came back until we asked for our checks, and even then, never suggested that I order something else, that he get a manager, nothing! When he brought the check, I told him that I was disappointed that he never asked me if I wanted anything else or suggest that I speak to a manager, and that he never even apologized for the meal. Again, he said "ok" Needless to say, Brandon missed out on a tip and I honestly can't believe that a nice place like this wouldn't care if a customer enjoyed a meal. I left my entire meal (minus the one rib I ate) on my plate and no one even cared. It will be a while before I go back, if ever. It's ok. This place is owned by the same guy that owns the Cork and Pig and Armenta's. I feel that those are the two best restaurants in San Angelo and I regularly recommend them. The Grill does not live up to the same standard. I had a ribeye steak, it was drenched in a balsamic vinegar sauce. I'm not saying it was horrible, but it was the worst ribeye I've ever had. I go home to Angelo once or twice a year to visit family and friends there and have wanted to head over to The Grill the past couple of times I have been home and finally got to do just that. I arrived and was puzzled by the layout - it's not a big area and most of it is taken up by the bar. I was seated at a table and awaited the rest of my party. I took my coat off, only to put it back on moments later as it was FREEZING in the place! The rest of my party arrives and we sit and discuss the menu. I remark to my two friends who live in Angelo that I read on yelp about The Grill and it didn't look so awesome, however I still wanted to check it out for myself. It's rare that non-chain places open in Angelo, and I wanted to try it myself. The waitress came to take our drink orders. I ordered the Blueberry Martini and my friends ordered the Mojito. I asked her if the air conditioner was on, as it was so cold for all of us. She said she'd ask. I then asked about the queso, as I had read on yelp that it tasted like pimento. (I HATE pimento) The waitress then replies: "Well, you live in Angelo, so you don't know what real queso is. It's more like real queso from New York." I have to admit I was a little taken aback... for all she knew I was from New York. lol I also felt that was a pretty pompous thing to say. Honey, I am SO from the ATX... and we have AWESOME queso here. At that point, my friend tells me that it does indeed taste like pimento and I probably won't like it, as it is hard, not soft... like our "unreal queso" here in Texas. *grin We order the chips and guacamole and enjoy our drinks. I didn't really care for mine, I thought it tasted like a blended blueberry muffin. Now, you'll love it if that's what you like. The Mojitos were a little on the too sweet side, but they were ok. Our guacamole arrives and it looks great. Looks can be deceiving. It didn't taste a bit like avacado; only cilantro and lime. Does the chef taste before sending out? Why can't food taste like the food?! Maybe we in Texas don't know "real guac", either. My husband and I came here on our first night after moving from the bay area in California. He had the steak and enchilada, and I had the pork tacos - both dishes were excellent. Cali has a good amount of commercialized Tex-Mex places, but this restaurant was classy and had great attentive service to match the great food. The bartender was very skilled (excellent Mojitos) and friendly when we moved seats to watch the football game. UPDATE: After living in San Angelo for about a year, we continued to come here for their consistently good food. This is my first time to have brunch here, and it has been a huge disappointment. The good: reasonably-priced mimosas and large portions of food. The bad: slow, inattentive, and apathetic service; inedible potatoes; over-cooked eggs. My husband had to send his plate back, it was that bad. He ordered the brisket hash- the potatoes were so hard he couldn't even stab them with his fork, and the sunny egg had a hard yolk that was cooked all the way through. As soon as we received the plate, we realized the state of his meal. We both sat there, full plates, waiting for someone to check in...our server was MIA and the hostesses and other servers passed us without notice. Finally, our server reappeared and rectified the horrible plate. Our second round of mimosas took 22 minutes and 43 seconds to get to our table (yes, I timed it). I had to spit out 4 potatoes as I couldn't even chew them. All this, and they weren't even busy. A Sunday morning with half a house, plenty of servers and kitchen staff, a substandard showing. We might give this place a chance to redeem itself for brunch, if I can get my husband to step foot back in here. He's pretty disgusted, and do don't blame him. read more

Unfortunately, The Grill is one of the few decent places to eat in San Angelo, so I have given them my business multiple times. Their food is pretty much consistently good. Problem is, the service. Today I called in a to-go order from their website at 11:30am and observed that there was a lunch and a dinner menu. The prices were considerably lower on the lunch menu. Needless to say, I was surprised when I picked up my food and the total was $8 more then I had anticipated. Their explanation was that the website had not been updated in a year. That's it. No offer of reimbursement, no apology, nothing. Not acceptable. The time before last, it came time to pay, I gave the server my card, and she did not approach our table again for at least fifteen minutes. I finally got up and asked her if I could have my card back and it was evident she had completely forgotten about us, even though we were her only table. So there are not a whole lot of options for eating out locally in San Angelo, but sadly I will have to avoid The Grill from here on out. First off, how the heck am I suppose to read the menu if it's so dark in there? I actually had to use my phone's light to read it. I felt like I was in Hollister back in my high school years. My family and I came here for a graduation dinner, and it was poppin'. We were seated next to the kitchen which is located near the middle of the restaurant like the bar. I was afraid that the smoke from the grill would be a bother but the vents did their job. I ordered the chicken enchiladas which came with beans and rice. I was disappointed with it because the presentation looked great. The rice was not cook thoroughly and the beans tasted like it came from the can. The enchiladas was okay but the sauce was an odd blend of spicy and sour. Apparently, they just built the patio, and that's all the rave. I didn't find anything spectacular with The Grill. The Grill is one of the top two/three restaurants I found on Yelp. We tried the Cork & Pig (related to The Grill) and weren't impressed so we tried The Grill. The Grill is better than Cork & Pig in our opinion. Why? I prefer the atmosphere: less crowded, not as loud and cleaner. The food: the menu is more manageable than at the other place (and their online menu is the same as the one in the restaurant), and it is better. Service is about the same at both, nothing bad but nothing great. Waiters talking to one another in plain view, arms crossed waiting for something to happen. And they are not very interested in what you have to say, and we usually go when it is not busy. But that is high school/ college kids for you. Now back to the food. The only item worth ordering is the Texas Pork Back Ribs - and I don't like pork. It truly falls off the bone and is good. The Famous Brisket Tacos wouldn't be famous if it depended on me - nothing bad but nothing famous-worthy...And they don't give enough tacos, which are on the small size (same issue with the Steak and Enchilada). The black beans on any dish are not great. The 'steak' from the Steak and Enchilada is ridiculously tiny. And for appetizers the Seafood Ceviche looks more and tastes more like gazpacho. The Grill tries to be high end without knowing what they are doing. It's cute, but I prefer cooking at home than paying for something that should be either less pricey for such meals or of better quality for the same price. read more

Had dinner here last week with 15 other people, which amazingly wasn't a problem. Really cool interior, though a bit small, I'd recommend reservations just in case. There is also outdoor seating which would be great on a nice night. The Grill immediately gave off the impression that it is one of the nicer places in San Angelo- as a friend pointed out, the don't have cents listed on the drinks, it must be classy. The service was good for such a large group and we didn't have to wait that long for our food, so bravo kitchen staff. The grill is in the center so you can see them working which is always good to see. From the group, we ordered about everything on the menu, and everyone was satisfied. Quick Texan Tip: if it says enchilada and steak, you will get an enchilada and a steak, not two enchilada (someone in our group was surprised) My Tip: I'd highly recommend the jalapeno martini. Southwestern grills are a dime a dozen in larger metropolitan areas of Texas such as Houston, Dallas, Austin and San Antonio. It was nice to find such a place in San Angelo. The menu has a nice mix and very well priced. Those who find this place pricey will find themselves paying almost double in a larger town. The food was good, but the execution lacked severely. My rare steak came out medium, my eggs over hard were over easy and the dishes came out staggered in our small party. There were five minutes between the first entree delivery and the last. I will say the potatoes on the brunch menu were amazing and soaked up well my runny egg yolk. The service from the wait staff was more than adequate and account for most of my stars. This place has huge potential and should be on your short list to sample. I look forward to trying this place again when I return to San Angelo. I have high expectations and encourage you to develop your own opinion. read more

Alright, if you've ever been to San Angelo, you'll know there is not much down there. I went to Texas to visit my friend's boyfriend who was enlisted at Good Fellow Air Force Base. We start off our meal with a couple drinks, 2 sangrias, and a lemon drop. All delicious and my lemon drop martini was only $6, a refreshing change of pace from Chicago's $10+ drinks. Our appetizer was guacamole and chips, which came with another side of cheesy dip. Loved the guac! I enjoy everything from chipolte guacamole to this one, which has a nice flair to it. Every restaurant I went to in Texas, the food comes FAST. 3 of us ordered steak dishes and my friend ordered chicken. Throughly enjoyed the steak, it was tender and juicy. If I lived in the San Angelo area, the grill would be my favorite spot, hands down. read more

A pleasant find on the outskirts of San Angelo. Definitely worth the drive. Great happy hour prices until six include $2 domestics and $3 "import" bottles. They really mean premium when they say import. I.e. Anything that's not of bud, bud light or coors light quality. The happy hour guacamole and queso is a treat. Not traditional melted cheese queso, but "queso Americano," a pimento cheese like spread with a jalepeno kick. Guacamole was so fresh, we actually saw it being made in the open kitchen. Both my husband and I had the Shrimp Brochettes, a skewer of jumbo shrimp, topped with jalepeno and cheddar cheese, wrapped in bacon and then grilled. Delicious!
