Unfortunately, that was not our experience at the Inn at Cannon Beach. My husband checked us in around 4:15 p.m. on Thursday, July 16. We had booked a four-night stay. Although there were no other guests waiting and three employees were behind the front desk, he was greeted with a curt, "How can I help you?" There was no hello, welcome, or smile. The check-in process felt cold and robotic, with none of the warmth we had experienced at every other property on our trip. After settling into our room, we returned a few minutes later to request the complimentary pass to the local gym. A different employee provided the information with little enthusiasm. She mentioned the gym was about a mile away. When I asked whether it was walkable, she replied, "I can do it." I wasn't asking whether someone could walk it--I wanted to know whether it was practical and safe for visitors unfamiliar with the area. We decided to explore on foot. The route followed a busy road with no sidewalks, something that would have been helpful to mention. We also encountered several large elk roaming near the road and decided it was wiser to turn back. My husband asked to speak with a manager and was directed to the front desk supervisor, who was the same employee who had given us the gym information. He explained that, based on our check-in and subsequent interactions, we did not feel welcome and would prefer to leave if we could receive a full refund. She responded with a perfunctory, "I'm sorry you feel that way," agreed to refund our stay, and that was the end of the conversation. There was no attempt to understand our concerns or ask whether anything could be done to improve our experience. We were disappointed that our first impression of Cannon Beach came from a hotel where we felt like an inconvenience rather than valued guests. For a nightly rate of $500+, we hoped for better service. Although we had to scramble to find accommodations during the busy summer season, we ultimately found another hotel where the hospitality matched everything we had come to appreciate throughout Oregon.

On the main drag of S Hemlock, a short walk to a grocery store, Tolovana State Recreation Area, and the beach, as well as a few restaurants. The compound is a series of buildings with rooms that you enter from the outside. We were upstairs with our balcony overlooking the garden, which was nice. The day we checked in, the woman at the front desk was helpful, but for me, with a hearing deficit, she talked fast and I relied on my wife to interpret for me. No big deal, though. They offer cookies individually wrapped, which is a nice touch. In the lobby are tea and coffee. Our room had double queen beds, was clean, and had all the amenities: mini fridge, microwave, and hairdryer. Strangely, we found that our heater was on, and we had to investigate how to turn it off. There is no A/C, at least not that we saw. However, it does not seem to get hot there, so with the window open, not an issue. The bathroom had a small tub/shower but nice fan and great water pressure. The TV worked fine. The first morning, we checked out the complimentary breakfast. You have to walk across Surfcrest St into another compound called Lodges at Cannon Beach and back in the corner is the breakfast room (there is a sign that leads the way). However, we were not impressed. Except for the sausage, biscuits, muffins, and juice, we were not impressed. There were no scrambled eggs that morning, just hard boiled. I'm not a fan of biscuits and gravy. They don't have a waffle maker, so the waffles had been sitting out and, for us, not edible. Ultimately, we skipped the breakfast the next two mornings. Housekeeping did a great job of cleaning and tidying up our room each day. We appreciated that. Besides the unimpressive breakfast, I only had one other issue. About dusk the frogs start up in the pond at the center of the garden area where most rooms overlook. They are continuous and loud, so that we had to close the window to be able to sleep. There is a fan in the room, but we like fresh air and were unable to enjoy it. Overall, we were happy with the Inn At Cannon Beach.

Super lucky to get a last-minute same day room at this historic hotel in the center of everything…read more Second floor queen bed with a sitting area, the shower and toilet with sink are separated from a wonderful quiet room with bathtub and window. It's one of the most luxurious features of room seven. You can close the door and enjoy a salt or bubble bath without being interrupted when you come in from the beach. Check-in was warm and welcoming and I met the new GM, Joey, as well. Lemon lime ice water as well as sleeping on coffee are part of the service. I always enjoy the sitting area in the foyer connected to the The Alchemy Lounge -- so a cocktail can be had with friends sitting in front of the fire place. You can also buy some gourmet popcorn or take a Log down to the beach and start a fire with some driftwood. And Parking downtown means you'd probably never have to move your car once you check in. Everything is within walking distance for meals and the beach is literally a two minute walk. One of my favorite places to stay in town.

The desk clerk could see we had mobility issues but needed help with our luggage! She said to try and if we couldn't make it she would call maintenance to throw my 87 year old mother over his shoulder and haul her up. Joey was her name. The room was so filthy that I wouldn't use the jet tube because I didn't think it would be clean. There were stains on the carpet and walls. Tile floors are cracked too the point where you lost your balance when you stepped on them and pinched your feet. Towels were awful and cheap and stained pillowcases. Don't stay here it's not what is advertised!!

After a long drive, who doesn't enjoy the smell of mildew, mold, funk and harsh chemicals in an attempt to mask the foul stench?" How about the sight of rotting wood windowsills, cobwebs everywhere, and a couch that has many mysterious dark stains? This place is described as "bright and contemporary". It is neither bright nor contemporary. In fact, it was about the darkest, dingy, foul-smelling abode I have ever had the misfortune to visit. The advertisement says, "You can open the windows to hear the waves and feel the ocean breeze." You cannot open the windows due to the broken glass and rotted wood sills. The faded smelly country kitsch furniture is something you might expect upon passing thru a trailer park after a weekend beer binge in the armpit in the universe. I cannot vouch for the beds as we immediately decided there was absolutely no way we could stay there, but I am quite certain that bedbugs are a very real possibility. In a word, the seller is very misleading about what he is selling. The seller is not even located near the property - everything is done via the phone or email. When I called the seller back to complain, his response was "well, it's the beach". I told him I wanted a refund, as this was not even close to being worth $230.00 a night. The bonus prize for cancelling without giving 7 DAYS advance notice being charged the full price for every night booked. And it's best done solo or with the love of your life, as happens, away from the familiar or crowds. Especially if, just before the new year turns, you can give yourself some time to reflect on the past year and sort through hopes and desires to set expectations for the next year...that's golden. The Courtyard was the place picked this year to take some downtime after a hectic year. Am gifting myself a few days here to reflect and get ready for the upcoming new year so a spacious, comfortable room is important. And we found that the rooms at the Courtyard have everything needed: from fireplaces, to huge soaking jetted tubs, to balconies to sit out and look at the night sky. Great help from Maiya setting up our reservation, and JLyn who checked us in remembered me from a couple months ago -- all the pre-visit arranging was very hospitable, which is an important part of the overall vacation experience. Also pretty great to be so warmly welcomed after such a long drive through the fog and winding roads. Totally lucked out with the room. Now deeply content, curled up in a very comfortable king size bedroom with fireplace going and the balcony has already offered us a view of the stars -- and in tonight's case the half moon as well is hanging so brightly in the clear night sky. We're told on the last night of the year December 31 the moon and the Pleiades will be neighbors for the night; thrilled that I'm going to have a view of that from my balcony. The bed is incredibly comfortable and the room is clean -- always is here, which is one of the reasons we return. One of the small things we love is the towel art and the Kleenex or tissue art. Whoever does the rooms here really takes time to make those small touches -- and it stands out (when you spend a lot of time in hotel rooms you can tell who cared about the space). And this room is not only on the top floor but has the open space of a comfortable sitting area with sofa so I can enjoy catching up on Stranger Things while enjoying some fresh fudge and drinking some tea. Don't underestimate the simple joy of having a fireplace when at the coast because it's so cold and dark outside that the warmth and bright light of a reliable gas fire makes all the difference. Even picked up some fresh fudge from the whiskey bar on the corner -- the Alchemy lounge -- just a minute walk away (in the same building as the hotel registration desk and foyer) before retiring to the room. Put the kettle on (it's fantastic that this place has kettles for us to make our own tea) and waiting for it to hit whistling so we can enjoy some peppermint tea. Never underestimate the luxury of having not one, but two mugs when traveling solo because you can make two different cups of tea... a favorite thing after a long day of driving, on a cold night. Whatever everyone else is doing in their neck of the woods, find myself very grateful to be here at Cannon Beach in such comfortable and peaceful quarters. Love this hotel. Merry holidays, everyone.
