The food was 1 star. Sitting on the beach with music in the air was a 5 star. Since the food is their business it should have been far better. As busy as they were and as quickly as they brought it to us there is only one explanation for how cold our burgers and fries were. They must prepare hoards of food and then sit it under a heat lamp. McDonald's taste at a much larger price tag. We were very disappointed. We are bringing our children and grandchildren back in September. While sitting and enjoying the music, breeze and view we added The Gulf as must dos for that trip. Sadly, once we had tasted the food. That's in Captiva and another story/review. However, it was served quick and it was good. Fries were very good! We will go back. I'm intrigued by the skirt steak and the seared tuna. Wonderful location, delicious food, and awesome ambiance. The Gulf has all outdoor seating, a beautiful ocean and gulf view, and a a cool vibe. Great for date night, and very child-friendly. This is a great place to have dinner outside, and enjoy a beautiful sunset and some people-watching. Menu-wise, we especially enjoyed the red snapper ceviche, the burger, and the mojitos and mudslides. Yum. read more

This is an awesome place to enjoy seafood on the beach!!! They have it all; fried, steamed, and grilled... I had the grilled grouper salad and shrimp taco bowl. It's 2 different sides for each and bartenders in between each side. The view was amazing and it was a nice cool breeze. We received many stares from other patrons, which was slightly uncomfortable. Nice location on the water. There are no waiters for the tables, ,so there is a crazy wait for drinks. They have 2 bartenders making drinks for the folks at the bar and every guest sitting outside, including 50 picnic tables and lounge areas. A third bartender did show up and helped sort out the line. It was January and unusually nice weather which explains the crowd in the off season. I assume they are staffed up for peak season. read more

Do not go there for the food - you will be disappointed. We got a burger, grouper sandwich and a hummus appetizer. The food was palatable at best. Burger was small and smothered in mayo. Grouper sandwich was very greasy and hummus had no flavor. This is a bar and all they serve is bar food. Walk up and order food from a window, find your own seat at a picnic table and they bring you the food. If you want a drink you have to go to the bar, No draft beer, bottle beer only and plastic cups. Go somewhere else (like Cobalt) for food and then go to The Gulf for drinks later. read more

Visited here on vacation. I loved the atmosphere. Really laid back and chill. The drinks were good but kind of pricey. I paid about 25 dollars for 2 drinks. You can see the beach from the location and watch the boats and jet skis ride pass. The food was pretty good however everything is sold separately. We paid about 35 dollars for a Cuban ham sandwich and a chicken sandwich with one order of fries. Overall, the experience was well worth it. I would visit again. read more

Went to this place Wednesday night. Nothing like they advertised. I had 2 elderly friends with me,both on walkers. Parking was scarce to begin with. When I got in with them they said they were not waiting table that night and to stand in this line to order and pay and then they would bring it. You had to get your own drink too. Really now- you want to make these handicap people stand in line. We asked for at least a menu and they brought one. We obvious told them this would not work for us. We had lunch there today and it was AMAZING! I love fish and/or shrimp tacos and the shrimp tacos were fabulous! Lots of shrimp, the toppings were fresh and plentiful. (I tried to get my husband to go back tonight but it was a little too far). Next time we are in OBA, we will go to The Gulf again. The atmosphere of this place gives it 5 stars! It's loungy but laid back- perfect for the beach! Another reason I love it is that it's dog friendly. I had the tilapia bowl from the taco bar. the tilapia was fresh and a good sized portion. It's a build your own set up which fits in well with the vibe of the place. Their blueberry mojito is also amazing- a must get. Lots of flavor and refreshing. Relative to typical restaurant prices in the area, the food is great for a reasonable price, and the waterfront location is so unique. This place works for well for groups. I've had some good meals and some bad meals here. The ceviche was awesome. My husband raves about the grouper sandwich to everyone he knows. Their fries usually suck- I wish they'd figure those out. I also wish the hummus was better because it would be a nice appetizer to share with friends. The atmosphere is awesome. They would be REALLY smart to have cocktail servers walking around on their busy days because I often want another drink but then my husband has to leave to go stand at the bar for 10-15 mins for us. We spend more of our time waiting in line than sitting together. I always recommend it to guests visiting and will continue to go, but they could improve some. read more

There wasn't a large selection, especially if you don't eat seafood, and while the food was good and came quickly, for the price, I would expect something a little better. The mojito I had was absolutely amazing! It was absolutely packed when we were there, we spent 15 minutes waiting for drinks at the bar and at least a half hour in the line for food. Overall great space with good food, perfect for kids to run around. However there is no covered seating and right before our food arrived we experienced a brief torrential downpour. Our entire family was standing under an umbrella since our picnic table was soaking wet and we couldn't sit down. However our server thought it would be appropriate in that moment to bring out or food. When I yelled to him over the pouring rain if he could keep it warm for us for 5-10 minutes until the rain stopped, he explained that this wasn't an option. So we ate our food while shivering and getting soaked, and then it cleared 10 minutes later. There were hardly any other customers due to weather, so I really do not understand why they couldn't have kept our food dry. Oh well. read more

Fabulous! I spent 4 days hanging out on Orange Beach and checking out all the spots and this one is bar none my favorite. The design is unique. It is a bunch of bright blue containers set up flawlessly on the beach to create a funky, fun atmosphere. The Gulf is located directly on the beach with a spectacular view of the water. All the furniture is modern yet classy and comfortable. I have never seen a restaurant/bar that is totally outdoors with swanky design and furniture and I LOVE it! There is also a fun gift shop with clothes and coastal decor where I purchased the most amazing sweatpants of my life. You need a pair or two. My only negative is that the menu isn't very extensive. We got the cheeseburger and appetizer platter. Both were good but nothing to write home about. read more

We've been here twice. Once in 2015 and last night for dinner. I like the atmosphere and the location is awesome. I like that they have lots of different seating options so if you've come to socialize and have some drinks, there are seating options for you, and if you've come to eat, there are lots of tables for you too. Several of the tables are long and great options for big groups. It was a little harder for us to find a table just for two (most were taken already). We didn't get there till almost 8:50ish and they had some lines for the two places they service food from but our line moved quickly. You can order food from two lines. This is where you also order fountain drinks and bottled water. If you want a beer or something from the bar, you order that separately at one of the bars. They give you a buzzer that you put on a blue disk thing on your table and when your order is ready, a waiter/waitress brings it to you. It's pretty efficient and our food came out really fast after we had ordered. My husband ordered the shrimp tacos and I had the grouper sandwich. We also split a side of fries. Both entree items were really good and I'd recommend either of them to get if you stop by. We didn't visit the bar on this trip but when we come back, I want to try the ceviche and some of their specialty drinks. read more
