One of the best indo chinese restaurants in the bay. Tastes far better than the Inchin's bamboo garden. Staff is very friendly and warned about the spice levels. This is a fantastic restaurant! We ordered the Paneer Tikka Masala, Mango Lassi, Chicken Momo, naan, and rice, and every dish was incredibly delicious with very generous portions. I truly enjoyed everything, but what surprised me was the chai tea--it was, without question, the best chai I've ever had. And it's free. The service was equally excellent. The food is delicious and the staff are helpful and very kind. Their secret recipe chai is great! I ordered spicy chicken momo to go, and they were willing to put the sauce on the side so that the dumplings didn't become soggy. I also ordered mix mass tarkari (vegetarian Nepali curry), delicious and full of coriander seeds and other yumminess. The food is unusual, satisfying, and delicious. Wow!!!! I really mean wow! This place actually has the best chicken tikka masala and butter chicken and saag paneer. It's the perfect combo of spices and level of sweetness/tomatoness. If you like the tikka masala a bit on the sweet side instead of just salty, this one is great. The saag tastes very unique/more healthy and less oily than other places. I've tried places all over Oakland, Berkeley, Pleasanton, and this place is #1 (for me). I usually never order momos or chow mein at restaurants, but I gave it a shot here and also wasn't disappointed in the least. Actually probably the best chow mein I've had too for the price - the thin noodes are chewy and it doesn't feel oily as most chow meins. The momos - just try it and you won't regret it. And the staff is also really polite & nice! The restaurant has a homy/diner vibe, cute modern and traditional plating, and there's always a good amount of families and groups of friends and couples eating here. Found this location on yelp based on distance and stars. Without a doubt well worth the ratings. We stopped for lunch and it was a very quiet afternoon. The location is convenient, parking generous and staff helpful and friendly. We ordered the Butter Chicken, Lamb Biriyani and Paratha Roti. Every items was delicious. When my friend suggested Indian when we were making plans for dinner on Saturday 3/29/2025, I suggested The Gurkha Kitchen. I arrived a few mins before my friend and there was lots of seating available. I got the shrimp curry and my friend got the butter chicken. We also shared the butter naan. The shrimp curry was not overly salty and had a kick without being too spicy. Naan was soft and soaked up the curry sauce very well. Service was friendly and efficient. I enjoy very spicy, hot pepper dishes and that was the only thing I would add more of. Each bite of chicken was so soft and the rice complimented each bite. They gave a large portion so I def have left over for the week. Came here on a Tuesday night and the place was packed, always a good sign. Gurkha Kitchen is a Nepalese-Indian fusion with flavor and heart. You can tell it's doing really well for a reason! TVs around the restaurant are displaying montages of Nepal, it was cool to watch while waiting for our food. We tried a bunch of dishes and everything was incredible. The vegetable pakora was crisp and heartier than I expected, with a nice kick of spice. Super good with the mint sauce. The chicken momo were a standout: hand-folded, juicy, and packed with flavor. The sauce included with it had tomato, sesame, nuts, coriander, and turmeric. SO good. The tandoori chicken might honestly be the best I've had. It was tender, juicy, perfectly seasoned... not dry at all. Loved the garlic naan too, drenched in butter and perfectly charred. We also got the chicken thakali thali, which had big chunks of bone-in chicken with a clove-forward spice. It came with tasty sides like potato-bean and bamboo shoot curry, black lentils, of course rice, and a super refreshing carrot and cucumber salad that helped cut the heat. There's also free hot chai on tap, yum! Our server Dipesh was so kind and welcoming, and we learned the spot is co-owned by Narayan Khanal and Prabesh Khadka. All the workers here are Nepalese. I was excited to try due to ratings. I ordered Fish Pakora , Vegetable Pakora , and Butter Chicken with Garlic Naan. The garlic naan and butter chicken were solid 7/10. But, the Fish Pakora and Vegetable Pakora were so disappointing. The fish was fried but slimy when I bit into it, I ended up throwing all the fish away after that bite. The veggies were burnt (overfried and hard). Also the portion was small compared to other Indian restaurants I've been to. I would not order again, I was pretty disappointed.
