I'd feel better if you said 10.(Side side note: What is tip etiquette for a place like this. I asked in the office and they said they never tip but I had been doing 20%. In the end I saw their side of the thing. 20% for some scooping. Now I do a flat dollar. Is that okay? I don't even know if these things get responses.)) I fucking hate sliced tomato like that. That's on me not them. No penalty there. They double up on the iceberg lettuce and that's fine by me. Ice-burg gets a bad rap. I like it. It's crunchy. Interesting take on gyro. All beef and chopped up. Just feels like it could be so much more. They also use a mayonnaise sauce instead of tzatziki sauce. Not a fan. But what I really like about this place is the service - the first time I went there the line was so long they were apologizing and giving out coupons for a free meal. I'm a big fan of halal food and tend to get it often when I'm back home in Brooklyn. So I wanted to see what this place is about. The chicken was nothing like actual halal food chicken, it was bland and there was barely any, the lettuce took up half of the plate, barely any tomatoes and onions. The "white" sauce.....when I asked what is in it, they could only say, "It is mayonnaise based." I asked to sample it and yup, pretty much it's mayo and nothing else. My husband and I were able to experience this restaurant at their soft opening. The menu was a bit small, which surprised me, but when I learned how and why the business was started, it all made sense. I ordered the Falafel platter minus rice. My husband had the combo platter. The staff was incredibly helpful, as I honestly had no idea how to order. The portion of falafel was very generous, and the white sauce - WOW!! My husband really liked their hot sauce as well. I've been to Halal Guys a few times now and have tried out all the possible choices in the platters. By far my favorite was the limited time spicy lamb... I'm sad that it isn't staying around. I didn't care too much for the chicken, and the beef and falafel were ok. But what made me come back was that rice. I don't know what is in that rice... Magic? Unicorns? Idk, but, that is the best damn rice I've ever had in a bowl like that... it's like it never gets stale. I can eat leftovers and not have to heat it up days after my initial time eating it. And I know I always have leftovers because that stuff is filling. And that rice is SOFT, and the flavor is like no other! And they pile you up there. The Kalamata olives and hummus make the dish that much better. They are an extra charge which I wasn't initially willing to do but it definitely was a game changer in the overall taste, and plus they give you your money's worth so I'm ok with it now. Beats spending the extra cost at say Salsarita's who went from giving you free guacamole on your bowl to now charging upwards of $1 for half a teaspoon... oh and keep that white sauce coming. Great service! Great food! Great atmosphere! I looked at the previous yelp reviews because I had no idea what I was going to be getting myself into. All the previous reviews said to order a regular (only $1 more expensive than the small) combo platter, so that's what I did! The portions were HUGE! I split it over three meals! The reviews also said to get a lot of white sauce, so again l, that's what I did. It was super yummy. The workers were super nice and one even asked if we wanted any extra sauce so we took him up on that offer! Turns out they keep a little fridge by the drink machine with the sauces so you can add extra sauce as you please. I also got some baklava and it was to die for. The Hot sauce was HOT. And I LOVE spicy food. So be careful with that. All in all, great experience. Will definetly be coming back here. read more

I love their chicken over rice and have been craving it ever since I moved up Buffalo 3 years ago. I was so excited when I found out that they we're opening in Amherst. When they opened, I went immediately. When I did, what I found was not Halal guys. The rice was bland, the chicken was dry, and the white sauce... They claim that it's the original sauce, but I've ate that platter for 10 years of my life. I know that the white sauce taste like and that abomination they have is not it! I had the privilege of attending The Halal Guys' soft opening as my first Yelp Elite event (yay!) I was so excited to try as I am a huge fan of the food they serve. I have never had The Halal Guys before and I am always intrigued to try the same food from different places as everyone seems to have their own take on how it is prepared. The restaurant has ample indoor and outdoor seating with umbrellas which will be great to take advantage of whenever Mother Nature decides to give WNY some sunny weather (hopefully soon!) The employees and owners were all super friendly and made sure we add plenty of their delicious white sauce at all times! I live for white sauce and will say The Halal Guys' is so delicious I got a packed to keep in my fridge! I decided to go for the combo platter- I got everything on it! Go big or go home right? When I say I my friend and I finished everything I mean we finished it ALL. I was sort of sad that I was able to stuff that much food in my stomach in one sitting because I could have easily split the large combo platter in half and would've had leftovers for lunch...but that goes without saying that clearly it was so good we could not contain ourselves. I definitely made sure I had ample amount of white sauce something that I certainly recommend- it is the cherry on top of your meal. Everything was incredibly fresh and delicious! I will say compared to my other spots, The Halal Guys seems to be a bit more untraditional and maybe a bit more Americanized- but not in a bad way! I am hoping if I compare it to the Chipotle of Mediterranean/Middle Eastern food that it is not taken in the wrong way. There are several spots where you can get your traditional food and there are spots like The Halal Guys where there is a new wave take on things. Me and a friend decided to try this take out / sit in restaurant.... First impression was good it was clean and kind of cute ... not much seating tho. ..... I noticed a steady stream of people coming in and out so figured it must be good!,,,, sadly, it is not. The falafel platter was horrible! I have had fallafal On many occasions and I know good falafel when I taste it it was tasteless and over fried,sitting on a bed of dry red rice. I have been to a total of 4 halal guys, one of them being in NYC. The staff here is amazing. Their customer service is on point, the restaurant is very clean, the manager came to our table to see if we needed anything and ask us our opinion. Wow, it was a great experience. For the food, I had to take off one star. The meat had no flavor at all. I had the shawarma bowl and my friend had the chicken and we both came to that conclusion.The rice was great, the bread was soft and according to my husband the falafel was pretty good.
