5/21/24- Last time I visited this place the food was disgusting and not at all fresh. After arriving home and looking at it I felt betrayed by a supposedly reputable brand. I yelped this concern months ago to the corp folk and they failed terribly with follow up/ through. The first time I ate at a Halal Guys was food off their cart in New York City years ago. Back then, they were already transitioning from just having a cult following for their food, and had one brick and mortar location. The pace at which they've moved since then to international status is astounding and may I say fully deserved. In the world of fast casual dining, the consistency at which the food is prepared and delivered across multiple locations should be of great concern to their competitors. I was glad they opened one relatively recently in my current neck of the woods, and my only regret was that I could never find an opportune moment to try it out at Irving, until today. Right away, the friendliness with which the staff greets you makes you feel instantly at ease. The menu is not expansive, as well it should not be, because that allows them to really hone in on doing the basics well, and keep that consistency and save on food costs. The charm of sitting on the curbside, on a bench or just eating whilst standing next to the food cart in NYC cannot be replaced, but it doesn't hurt to be sat at a table either ;). The Irving location was clean and has plenty of room if you're bringing a group. My order was the combo rice bowl of gyro and chicken, which comes with lettuce, tomato and choice of sauce. White sauce obviously, and just a little bit of the red. I used to be able to handle the heat back in the day, but not anymore. The dish also comes with pita bread, and I added a side of falafel to my order, which is not part of the dish by itself. The falafels were the best I've had in all of my memory, and I've lived at one point in the Middle East, so I've had my fair share over the years. They were fried to perfection, crisp and not oily at all. The ground chickpeas inside had a smattering of coriander seeds and were light. I've had dense falafels at other places and they absolutely ruin the experience, and this place does it right. The chicken and gyros were moist and well-seasoned. I love the graphics on their drink cups - It pays homage to the humble beginnings of the carts they started with dishing out their food (I've attached a picture of the cup). Although, I have to call out Halal guys for inaccuracy, because the line depicted waiting for their turn to order at the cart on the drink cup was way too short. This place is a chain that came as a result of a food cart in NYC. they are famous for their white sauce. I could happily eat here 1x per week. We bought a combo platter to split and added 2 falafels. The platter comes with rice, shredded lettuce, chopped tomato, 1/2 toasted pita, and chopped chicken and gyro meat. We had some babaganoush in the fridge and added it to our meal - which was a great add on to dip the falafel in. Pricey but oh SO delicious. I keep it very simple here. Beef rice bowl with veggies and no heat. The heat I will admit is a little too much for me! I'm a spice lightweight apparently. I got chicken before and wasn't as pleased but the beef here is perfectly seasoned. The chopped onions are amazingly fresh too. Get the big bowl and you will have 2 meals in one. Worth it! I've been eyeing the baklava so when I want a treat I'll grab that for the next time. Perfect place for a quick to go and you are in and out. There are lots of tables inside though and it is pretty clean when I've gone in there so you can definitely do some social distancing. I will admit the food was not dried out and tasted pretty fresh late at night. They weren't skimpy on the white sauce or the hot sauce. They kept asking me if I wanted more. It could have been more meat but it was a good meal. The pits bread was a little old, but still good. The crew was nice and the place was clean. But that could be due to 2 reasons. One it's a new location. Two it was late and no one else was inside. Staff had time to clean without people messing it up. All and all I will return and try again. But they screw up... it will be no problem for me to catch a flight to NYC and getting some from the original....or I can just eat at one of the many Indian restaurants in the area. read more

Management here is horrible!!! I usually don't pay attention to how much I get charged.. after I paid, I noticed that I paid much more than I thought. Apparently I got charged for 3 portions instead of 2. Manager took forever to figure out how to fix the issue and then gave me an attitude like it was my fault. I'm sorry! This review is for the MacArthur Blvd location specifically. I know restaurants are having trouble getting people to work but at least train the people you do hire. I guess the large white guy is the mgr but he moves like molasses and doesn't seem to do much. Halal guys has very limited menu options so the must rely on good value ,fresh food, and good service. They raised prices snd decreased the meat portions. Pointed it out to big white guy and he just shrugged his shoulders. Let me start off by saying I have eaten Halal Guys on Lemmon Ave in Dallas and on Ave Of The Americas in NY. By far and large The one on Lemmon Ave. is the closest I have had to the original in NYC. I recently changed jobs and was excited to see that there was one close by. I was excited as the line was long so to me that was an indication that the food has to be good. The wait was about 5-10 minutes and I place my order. I got it to go and as soon as I got in my car I open it up. It was messy but who cares. First bite and I was disappointed to the fullest. The meat was dry and some pieces crunchy and old tasting. I can believe people are lined up for this crap. If the line wasn't so long I would have gone back and asked for a refund. So disappointing.
