I have not had food from The Hat in over twenty years so I could not recall anything off of their menu. Driving by this location, I said out loud, "Why not?". Though the parking lot is rather small, I found an available space immediately. In order to enforce social distancing, there is only one way in and way out of this place. The menu board was clearly posted above the cash register which made ordering a cinch. I ordered a pastrami, turkey sandwich, plain cheeseburger, fries w/ no salt and three soft drinks for the Fam. Seating is limited as several booths are closed off in order to promote social distancing. In my case, I found a available booth immediately. We waited five minutes for our food which is fast in my book. One bite of my turkey sandwich and I was HOOKED! The French roll was so soft and fresh, the turkey meat was DELICIOUS! The fries were good, crsip and fresh, the pastrami was LOADED with meat (a bit too much!) and the beverages were cold to the touch. I WILL be back for more! read more

This place has been open many years and is a regular spot for a lot of locals and even me when I come to town. This place can be busy sometimes but there is also a drive through Every time I come I always get the pastrami sandwich, a grilled cheese, and the orange cream soda. The pastrami here is great and there's a reason I think about it 500+ miles away. Grilled cheese is good also. I have been coming to different locations of The Hat for many years, and in recent years this location is by far the skimpiest in terms of portion size. The pastrami sandwiches used to come with twice as much meat with the meat falling out of the bread into the paper. This location seems to try to ration even when it isn't busy at all. I walked into no line and only 2 orders ahead of me, waited less than 5 min, and this is what I received. Extra star because the wait is quick and the staff is very friendly. I think I've only eaten a pastrami sandwich a couple of times in my life, so I can't really compare The Hat's to any other pastrami sandwich. All I know is that the sandwich was packed with meat and it was pretty flavorful. Bread got a little soggy, but it was still pretty good. I got the pastrami with an order of large fries and it cost around $17.00. Might seem like a lot, but they give you a HUGE portion of fries and the sandwich and fries could probably feed two people. The pastrami chili cheese fries is not on the menu, but can be ordered (one could say it's a secret menu item? Except it's quite popular). At my consort's advice, I ordered the pastrami chili cheese fries for her and I to share. It was such a large portion that we also had to share with my parents. The chili cheese fries alone were amazing, but the pastrami really put it over the top. Probably one of the best variations of "fries with stuff on top" I've ever had. The pastrami is not the best pastrami I've ever had, but the combination of all those ingredients together was quite stellar. I like to order the au jus on the side so that it doesn't get too soggy to eat at home. The fries is like $4 for small $5 for large. Might as well get large for a dollar extra and they give a lot! Theirs is the fat fries that's kind of mushy and smooth in the middle. I personally love it. So greasy it just goes down the throat. The gravy is good. This is not a good spot anymore, a lot of the food seems half a**. I had lunch there on Saturday January 27th. I ordered a very simple plain mustard hotdog and small fries. It was the saddest mustard hotdog I've ever seen at the Hat, the bun was broken in half and just a literal splash of mustard on it. I had to ask for mustard packets to evenly spread it on the hotdog. The man calling out the numbers literally tossed the items on the table as I reached out to take them from him, the staff taking the orders couldn't figure out if they wanted to talk to me in Spanish or English, when I responded in English they responded in Spanish to I replied in Spanish only for them to look at me like they didn't understand Spanish. Bought two pastrami dips and they were just cold and soggy despite eating them there within minutes. The hamburger was flavorless, the single tomato slice was over an inch thick, the bread was crumbly, the meat was 3 different pieces of meat shoved into the burger to make it seem like it was one patty. The fries were terrible despite the massive portion and the onion rings were hard as heck. Never coming here again and I don't recommend anybody come eat here when there's better places to eat where they'll make your food with care, passion, and love. The flavor was mediocre and the overall feel of the place is mediocre. Delusional for claiming it's world famous, I've had better pastrami, burgers, and service at diners charging half the price.
