I came here for a late dinner. I saw that they were open late(1am) and drove there after reading the reviews. First and foremost, I was greeted once I was ready to place my order. Then was giving a number. I waited no more than 6 minutes for my food. Chili cheese fries with pastrami = $20. The fries, cheese and the pastrami was good. The chili though was disappointing. No flavor what so ever. Customer service was good. I'll give it another shot and order something different.

This place is an LA icon. We have been coming for years. Today, we came here after a Dodger game and it was packed with fans. The place is small for the volume of people that come here but we were able to sit down to eat. We shared a pastrami dip and onion rings and my son also had the chili dog. And of course, all with an Orange Bang. Everything was so good. Had a huge case of FOMO when I saw several other clients eating their pastrami chili cheese fries. OMG; I think my stomach would kill me but what a way to go.

Can't go wrong! This place is a classic! The service was very nice and inviting! The food... yeah... if you can eat there because the food will be still warm and tasty! If not, the reheat ability is fine! The feeling inside was friendly, busy and efficient! I do plan to go again! There is god parking!

My Mother wanted an old fashioned pastrami sandwich. So we took her to The Hat for there "World Famous Pastrami". I've been to other The Hat locations and this one delivers the same high quality food! Mom got her pastrami and loved it!!! She said it was exactly what she had been craving... mission accomplished :) My Son and I had the Roast Beef w/ Gravy and shared an order of Gravy Fries. Oh so good, the gravy is thick and rich and the roast beef was well cooked and sliced fresh. Gravy fries are one of my favorite things and these are top shelf. The restaurant is clean with plenty of seating and the staff is friendly and delivers your order quickly. There is a private parking lot and some street parking around.

If you're a pastrami lover then The Hat is your spot. They have everything from burgers to all things chili. Order at the counter and wait for your number to be called. When I was there, I only heard people ordering pastrami sandwich or chili cheese fries. So you know had to get each. The pastrami sandwich was hefty with piles of small and thin cuts. A little dry but still good. Chili cheese fries were heavy and so satisfying. Crispy fries and generous portion of chili/cheese. Portions are big and the prices are super reasonable.

Food was great. I love to come here, but the workers attitude not cool register guy. He had an attitude the person giving the food had an attitude. I will not come back with the same type of service.

It's been a very long time going to The Hat and at this location. I would say about 10 years. The time was 6:30pm last night and we were able to get a table. There was no line so I was able to place my order quickly. The food has definitely changed over the years in my opinion when it comes to the size of the pastrami dip. It was good but the size portion was a smaller sandwich than it was in the past. The french fries were good and the service was nice.

I didn't know I could crave au jus sauce, pastrami sandwich, grilled cheese, and chili cheese fries but I am so glad my brother and I did!! At 11pm no less. Excellent people served us home cooked meals on a platter & the old diner vibes were immaculate. Thank you The Hat!! I'll be back soon.

Top food, one of the best chili cheese fries. I have yet to try their pastrami, which is what they are known for, but I swear one day I shall maybe next week. I do know chili cheese fries are fire tho!, so they are a must. Prices are also pretty good given the times, so a huge thumbs up and if you're craving some chili cheese fries; this is the spot.

Do you take call in orders for pick up?

They do, but you still have to wait in line to pay in person and they don't start your order until you pay. All you're really doing is saving the time you are at the register.

Is their pastrami beef or pork?

    It's beef

Does anyone know what type of bun the hat uses for their pastrami dip sandwiches?

It's a soft white Italian roll, but the sandwich is horrible go somewhere else man.

I found this place while on a mission to track down some really good micro-roasted coffee beans,…read moreand it was also highly recommended by the wonderful folks at Cafe Minerva in Hermosa Beach. After fighting my way through South Bay traffic and making the drive from Hermosa, I can confidently say it was 100% worth it. From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere felt warm, welcoming, and full of heart. You can tell there's a lot of love behind what they're doing here, and that energy carries through everything from the service to the food and, of course, the coffee. I ordered a quad espresso over ice, and wow... it was absolutely delicious. Smooth, flavorful, perfectly balanced, and honestly one of the better iced espressos I've had in a long time. Even better, the prices felt very fair for the quality. For food, I ordered the chilaquiles and the frijoladas, and both were incredible. They had this subtle but delicious undertone of spice that kept building with every bite. The surprise star of the visit was their house syrup. It was so good that I ended up buying a bottle to take home. The flavor instantly transported me back to mornings in Mexico with my grandma, waking up early, sipping coffee together, and enjoying the comforting aroma of café de olla. It was one of those unexpected moments where a simple taste brings back a flood of memories. Great coffee, amazing food, beautiful atmosphere, and a little taste of nostalgia. I'll definitely be making the drive back.

Saw it the other day bring them water salsa while their other customers have to get everything but, i digress. The mulato breakfast sandwich, its flavorful! I do recommend trying it if its your first time and want something not so heavy. I like the chilaquiles, its better when you add a fried egg. Soo yummy, savory, and flavorful! As for the coffee, if you like a pick me up... and a coffee that isn't sweet but strong. I suggest a refresher drink (tonics). The coffee is sugary and you unfortunately cant taste some of the coffee. If that's your preference, we'll i recommend. Besides that, the environment is lovely and art they have. Delightfully understated atmosphere with unique tiles throughout the decor, and we loved that we could hear each other talk and enjoy each other's company. Our server was amazing, she was so knowledgeable while being personable and extremely funny. I assume she's the cook's wife based on the other reviews - I arrived a little after my aunts, so I didn't get a full introduction since they had already secured a table and had ordered some drinks while looking over the menu. I had my eye on 3 different meat dishes - the Roasted Duck Breast, the New Zealand Lamb, and the Angus Beef Ribeye Steak - and my aunts also had each picked 1 of those, so we went family style, and it did not disappoint!! The chef knows how to cook each type of meat to perfection, and the searing pans are doing exactly what they need to be doing! The Roast Duck Breast was AMAZING as cooked to the recommended medium, with delicious crispy skin. The Angus Beef Ribeye Steak at medium rare was as tasty as it was gorgeous! And the New Zealand Lamb was PERFECTION, down to the bone. We also got the gourmet macaroni and cheese as an add-on side, since all the meals come with mashed potatoes and various veggies, and I was in heaven! As someone who used to work at the Disney Parks and frequented the steakhouses and other fine dining both here and in Orlando, Sage Bistro is giving Disney a run for its money when it comes to high-quality meat dishes! The prices reflect both the cut of the meats and the skill of preparation, with it averaging to about $50 each across the 3 of us, which is pretty reasonable for top-tier quality! The only thing I had to be careful about was that many of the dishes have mushrooms, and my throat gets itchy if I eat most mushrooms, so I had to avoid those dishes. During our meal, when I mentioned it to our server for future visits, she was great at noting which dishes could completely be modified to have no mushrooms while also being realistic about acknowledging the dishes that cannot be, which sadly includes the Braised Short Rib that sounds out of this world. But I can have the Beef Rib Soup, so I definitely want to try that next because I WILL BE BACK!!! They also offer takeaway, and were very generous in giving us each a coupon card to use for ordering through their website.

Note: I think it is more difficult to do walk ins now, so be prepared to fight for a reservation online instead WHAT WE'VE ORDERED IN THE PAST (* denotes personal favorite/would order again) APPETIZERS - Baby Albacore: nice bright dish to start the night! I really enjoyed the fried shallots on top. - *Cornbread: a must get! The chile helps cut the richness of the dish so it's not so one dimensional. Butter and honey -- what more can you ask for? - *Cherokee Tomato Caesar: I was surprised by this dish. Four tomatoes used are so delicious and meaty and the dressing coats it perfectly. The little anchovy in the center of the tomato adds to the savoriness of the dish. It's so simple, yet delicious. - *Carolina Gold Rice: a table favorite!! The seafood was abundant and everyone enjoyed each bite. The rice was al dente and not mushy at all, but helped meld all the flavors together. Everyone agreed we would reorder. MAIN - *Beef Ribeye: delicious. It's good to share because of the richness of the ribeye plus the bone marrow. I personally could not eat the whole ribeye by myself. Medium rare is the way to go. - *Mushroom Crusted Pork Chop: cooked well and was delicious! Not dry whatsoever. The crust on the pork chop was great. SIDES - *Dressed Lettuce: their salad which is a necessity to have vegetables at the table. The dressing is citrusy and bright, which helps cut the richness of the food. DESSERT - *Sticky Date Pudding: this does take some time to make since it's in a skillet. But when it comes out, it's so decadent with the ice cream. I tell myself that I'm healthy eating it since it's made with dates. - Chocolate Cake: dense, rich, dark chocolate, not too sweet. I love dark chocolate so I was a fan of this cake. We even got it to go and it still tasted good a few days after the meal. It's pretty dense for a cake and I really only need a few bites -- so its a nice way to end the meal. If 2-3 people: recommend 2-3 app/sides + 1 main protein If 4-5 people: 3-5 app/sides + 1 main protein I think it's a great celebratory meal. Everyone that I've come with has stated they would go come back -- especially since the menu does change seasonally. Something happened and when we arrived there was a mix up with the reservation so we ended up sitting in the bar for about 45 minutes. This place is extremely casual, think shorts, t shirts, and flip flops and you won't be out of place. Servers and bartenders all have the eagle rock/highland park grunge vibe. I went there with my wife and 2 teenage daughters. We started with the cornbread. I thought it was good (4/5) but with the amount of butter and honey anything would have been good. Wife didn't care for it, thought the buttermilk made it too sour. Just know that it's tiny. For the four of us, each had one bite. The menu for mains is pretty limited. Steak, swordfish, or porkchop. We ended up going with the steak, 2 swordfish, and then added the brown eyed peas, mashed potatoes, and then wanted to start off with the pork chile (which is really chile verde). The chile verde was the star of the night. If I ever went back, this is what I would order. Maybe it's because all the chef's are hispanic, but it was really good. They serve it with homemade tortillas and it was excellent. The steak is a large 2 pound bone in rib eye. I ordered it medium rare. It was more on the rare side, which i don't have a problem with, but the steak was a little tough. Not super tough but for $150 I definitely expected a little more "melt in your mouth" rather that fighting some pieces. Bone marrow was a nice touch. probably a 3/5. The fish was well cooked, not dry but the flavor was not amazing either. Hard to explain but the sauce was a little too sour. I like lemon on my fish but the sour almost made me think the fish was past it's prime. It wasn't, but the sauce didn't really highlight the fish. I shouldn't have ordered two and would skip this one next time. My least favorite and a 2/5 The sides were good. Mashed potatoes with garlic and butter, nothing special but good. Brown eyed peas were really just white beans. They were good, but not steal the show good. About a 3/5 For dessert we split the chocolate cake which was more like a muffin with a hazelnut whipped cream. Don't think of chocolate cake, think of it rather as a small piece of chocolate flavored loaf with no frosting or chocolate pieces. I liked it because I like things that are not very sweet but I was the only one that cared for it. Overall portions are fairly small. Between me, my wife, and two teenagers we ate everything. Total bill with tip was about $510. Pretty crazy when you think about it. Would I go back? Probably not but the ambiance was nice with the grill and real candles.
