My husband found this place recommended on Reddit so we decided to check it out for an early dinner. We split an order of the crab cakes, he got the Nashville hot chicken sandwich, and I got the Ted Danson sandwich. The food all came out quickly and everything tasted amazing. Phenomenal spot. They have an all day breakfast menu that goes until 5 pm daily, as well as lunch options and dinner entrees. Everything the table had was delicious! I got the chicken and pancakes with baked apples. The pancake was super fluffy and the apple butter was so flavorful. The meal came with two chicken tenders which were pretty juicy. I also got to taste some breakfast potatoes which were super good. Everyone at the table enjoyed their meal. Portions were good and our service was event better: Our server Nathaniel was really nice and on top of everything. The food didn't take too long and it all came out hot and fresh. Tried this place tonight for the first time. Party of 5. Service was AMAZING. Staff was very polite and helpful with recommendations. Food was GREAT, we will be back. We tried the pimento cheese (loved it), barbacoa fries (very good) and the pretzel. Entrees were: meatloaf, fish and chips, chicken sandwich, burger and schnitzel. All were very good! I love the Hayden because I love their New York deli style menu that has a Texas twist to it. They're matzoh ball soup is perfect for a rainy day. I love that. I can pair it with a sandwich and on this visit, I indulged in the Ted Danson and had zero regrets. The sandwich is a perfect blend of flavor and goodness with turkey, Swiss cheese, slaw and a house sauce on perfectly toasted bread. It was a perfect meal for me. The food was good however the biscuit was very dry inside but the gravy was soo good, they had put the eggs on top of the biscuit gray which it was weird for me. Picture it! Planning my husbands birthday brunch, we wanted something new so of course we look at Yelp for inspiration and we find this amazing place. Located off broadway in Alamo heights. They worked with my reservation issues because I kept changing the number. And they were super sweet about it. The restaurant was busy but the waiter Bill was helpful and attentive. He was on point with refills and checking on us. We had a table of 14 with two kiddos and a lot of food was placed on that table. He kept on cleared plates and restocking our cutlery and napkins. The decor was very modern to me but when I was headed to the bathroom the bar area was clean and efficient. I loved they had a place for a silent auction for the community. The thing you all want to know about, the bourbon berry smash was smashing! Strong, delicious, coy, fruity, I might be buzzed from it. Was perfection. I don't think I could have ordered a better drink before the meal. We had Brussels sprouts, pimento cheese dip, and smoked whitefish dips(times two) as appetizers and it was shareable for the entire table. Each appetizer was big enough to share and was just the right amount for a taste to enjoy with leftovers for those who loved it. I had the bagel and lox, I shared with a table mate who had the meatloaf hash. And dang. Just delicious. The bagel was fresh and toasty with the cream cheese melted just right. We also waited a bit before our server came to our table but we were not in a rush so it did not bother us too much. Dariel was our server and she did a great job. She was friendly and our orders got to our table fairly quickly. We all enjoyed what we ordered. This is my favorite brunch spot, period. I normally like to try something new on the weekends, but I just cannot keep myself away from the Hayden and their amazing pancakes. My favorite is the apple one, but all of the flavors are excellent. I've also had their breakfast sandwich and pimento cheese dip, which are on point as well, but I can't keep away from those pancakes. My wife loves all of their dishes with fried chicken. We've come for lunch and dinner too, and the burgers are solid. They have all of your standard diner favorites, like burgers, salads, and sandwiches, as well as some really unique things like latke waffles and a fish dip. We had the smoked whitefish dip with veggies to start and my husband who doesn't eat fish really enjoyed it. Then we split a pastrami and Swiss sandwich and the chicken fried chicken with mashed potatoes, gravy, pickled red onions and candied jalapeños (I asked for extra red onions and jalapeños). I love the decor, it was very welcoming. We had a group of 12 and I felt like we were in a family's dining room. Our waiter Phil was so friendly and energetic. Another place that has been on my list, but I have failed to visit when I am in San Antonio. Now that I have, believe me, I will be back. Super cute interior, and the owner or manager came by and chatted with us for a few minutes while we sat at the bar. Parking is a little tight, but it is free. The smoked whitefish sandwich is like the best tuna melt you'll ever come across with a real depth of flavor. Next time: the pastrami! Came here for brunch, it was a bit busy but overall it wasn't too bad of a wait considering it was Sunday around noon. Nothing more than expected, maybe 10 minutes? Our server, Ally, was great. She constantly checked in when we needed a refill, but wasn't hovering or being too much. She was also quick to fix our coffee when it came out hot instead of iced. Unrelated to her, my only complaint would be that with all the people eating, it felt a little warm. Maybe turn up the AC/ fans if possible? But the food was delicious!
