Visited here during happy hour and got a few cocktails and their fries. This place was recommended by a coworker and I'm glad I went! This place looks very nice on the inside and outside! There is parking in the plaza but it can get pretty full. I have never heard of the split charge until I came here. Our waitress didn't notify us of a split charge and wished we were told as we didn't pay attention to the menu. Not sure if this is just a TX thing but split charges don't exist in CA, so we had no idea! We knew we wanted a couple drinks and wanted to see how we'd feel after sharing the fries and if we had known there was a charge, we would've just ordered another dish. Other than that, the portions are great! The food itself and cocktails were delicious and I'd definitely recommend this place for anyone wanting deli foods and drinks as they have cool refreshing cocktails! We started with the made-to-order pretzel, and wow, it is massive. Perfectly pillowy and chewy at the same time, with that classic pretzel flavor done exactly right. We ordered both the mustard and pimento cheese spreads. I'm a huge fan of the pimento cheese, while my husband loved the mustard for its classic flavor. I had the Hot Chicken Sandwich, and it was superb. The breading is unlike anything I've had at other fried chicken spots. I can't quite put my finger on what makes it different, but it's exceptional. The pickles balance the sandwich perfectly, and the house-made potato chips are a must. Nothing about this meal felt standard. Every ingredient felt intentional, elevated, and thoughtfully curated. My daughter ordered the fried chicken and latke waffle, and it was a 10/10. Perfectly crispy with that ideal sweet-and-savory combination. My husband had Elaine's Big Salad and couldn't stop talking about the tomatoes. He even asked our waitress what made them so good. The answer? Just really well-sourced tomatoes. My first visit here this afternoon and I could say quite a bit about this place. Food: 5 stars Definitely some passion build into the food here. I tried the apple short stack and the big kahuna burger and wow. First off the pancakes I had were phenomenal. They were perfect fluffy, carrying lots of flavors of butter, and vanilla. They were plenty good enough to eat on their own but with that added apple topping they were just something else. Absolutely perfect is how I would describe the pancakes. The big kahuna burger, man! What a dish. The bun was so soft and delicious. Very nice shallow flavors to combine perfectly with the punch of flavors inside. The sweetness from the pineapple and teriyaki glaze perfectly compliments the beef patty which was also juicy and tender. Absolutely amazing. Service 3 stars While the staff was kind, there was issues with the actual service itself. First thing I notice walking in is that the restaurant was absolutely filthy and I mean it. Food all over the floor, straw wrappers, napkins. Also as I walked my shoes stuck to the floor and whatever residue was on it. The staff did tend to us but honestly I felt bad for them as it seemed they were totally understaffed and rushing through everything they did. Overall though we did still have a nice meal so can't complain too much. Ambiance 5 stars This place has an immaculate interior design. It was absolutely dreamy inside. They had a lovely composition of colors and lights, table flowers. Anything you could want in a dinner place honestly. It felt very welcoming inside and I really could sit and just admire the decor. Very very nice. So overall the score averages out to 4 stars and honestly the place would be solid if they could offer the staff some help and keep the place tidy. Also not to mention some things were a bit pricey. Example an upcharge of 3 for a Side on a dish that's already 17$ seems a little much to me when I could get a whole mean a lot of places for that. I can pair it with a sandwich and on this visit, I indulged in the Ted Danson and had zero regrets. Hayden started their new 19.99 dinner specials this last week. A few friends and I went yesterday and there were some issues. The serving staff was amazing. They all helped each other. It was busy so I took that into account. We waited 35 minutes to get our food while others who got there after us got served around same time but less wait. Plates were supposed to come with green beans. Mine didn't. My friend got the wrong plate delivered to her but within a minute her correct one was delivered. Now the bad part. The desserts. I ordered the mini sundae and it was delivered melted and almost room temp soup. My friend got the small root beer float and that had been sitting for a while as well. It was half full as well. I ordered delivery of a couple items that I've had and enjoyed several times before, but was disappointed this time. I ordered a cup of matzo ball soup ($7), but received a very small container of soup that looked to be a 1/2 cup. It was so small that the matzo ball was too big to fit in the container and had to be wrapped separately. I felt kind of cheated. The other item I ordered was a cup of Irish coffee. They refused to give it to the runner (who is over 21), saying no alcohol is allowed to leave the premises. Do they have a new guy? Picture it! Planning my husbands birthday brunch, we wanted something new so of course we look at Yelp for inspiration and we find this amazing place. Located off broadway in Alamo heights. They worked with my reservation issues because I kept changing the number. And they were super sweet about it. The restaurant was busy but the waiter Bill was helpful and attentive. He was on point with refills and checking on us. We had a table of 14 with two kiddos and a lot of food was placed on that table. He kept on cleared plates and restocking our cutlery and napkins. The decor was very modern to me but when I was headed to the bathroom the bar area was clean and efficient. I loved they had a place for a silent auction for the community. The thing you all want to know about, the bourbon berry smash was smashing! Strong, delicious, coy, fruity, I might be buzzed from it. Was perfection. I don't think I could have ordered a better drink before the meal. We had Brussels sprouts, pimento cheese dip, and smoked whitefish dips(times two) as appetizers and it was shareable for the entire table. Each appetizer was big enough to share and was just the right amount for a taste to enjoy with leftovers for those who loved it. I had the bagel and lox, I shared with a table mate who had the meatloaf hash. And dang. Just delicious. The bagel was fresh and toasty with the cream cheese melted just right. I can't believe that I haven't tried this place sooner. What a great spot to pop in a for a chill, yet absolutely delicious dinner. The service was outstanding. Our server Luis was great. Very personable, attentive. He treated us very well. The food at The Hayden is great. I am at a loss for words for how great a dish is the Barbacoa Stroganoff. It is truly next level!! It was so good I didn't even want to eat it all so I could have some for tomorrow. I also ordered the Poblano Bacon Cheeseburger. So full of flavor. The pimento cheese just adds so much to the burger. The matzoh ball soup is some of the best I've ever had. So much depth of flavor with the broth. The pastrami was obviously done with care. This is my favorite brunch spot, period. I normally like to try something new on the weekends, but I just cannot keep myself away from the Hayden and their amazing pancakes. My favorite is the apple one, but all of the flavors are excellent. I've also had their breakfast sandwich and pimento cheese dip, which are on point as well, but I can't keep away from those pancakes. My wife loves all of their dishes with fried chicken. We've come for lunch and dinner too, and the burgers are solid. They have all of your standard diner favorites, like burgers, salads, and sandwiches, as well as some really unique things like latke waffles and a fish dip.
