What a great find. We had just flown in to Tulsa and our friend suggested we try this new restaurant right on Route 66. Since it's the 100th anniversary of the Mother Road we all agreed. We had breakfast and before we even ordered the owner, Tim, came over to introduce himself and see if we had any questions. The service was good and the food as well, but the feeling of stepping back in time, with mix-matched plates, glasses and silverware was the best. Old photos and light fixtures feels as if your grandmother has invited you over for a meal. It is right in the heart of the Land of the Giants, which is exactly that, giant statues of famous characters of the area. If you are nearby, don't miss The Helen. A true gem. read more

I wish I could review the food but we went to this place and after being seated were just ignored for a long time. No water, no checking in, nothing. I would understand if the place was busy but most of the staff was off on the side just chit chatting with each other. After sitting around for a long while we just left. No one said anything on our way out, they just kept talking amongst themselves. I guess go here if you love to just watch the ins and outs of a restaurant but don't actually want to be a part of it. read more

Two slices of bacon considered a serving? Is that where we are as a society now? The food and service are excellent. For me, a metro diner version of my usual country breakfast. The bacon portion was a little shy and unlike a good country diner, a biscuit and gravy was not offered as optional, for the bread selection. A biscuit is a $7 add, and another $7 for peppered gravy. Nope! The two slices of bacon were crisp and smokey. The eggs almost perfect a little cloudy for "sunny Side," but close enough. The real hook here are those dang "tater tangles." A big handful of long shreds of potato threads, fried to absolute perfection. Crisp on the outside and crisp to the very last strand in the middle of the tangle. Check the pictures. I like extra crispy hashbrowns. These are the best of the best. If you have dined in this building when it was the Wildflower, well not much has changed in regards to the décor. Make it three slices per serving on the bacon; make one biscuit with gravy an option for the bread and I can go 5 stars. Almost there with the tater tangles. A rainy Saturday morning and a short wait for a table told me that this a popular place. The vibe is totally Tulsa with Route 66 emphasis. The glasses are a blast from the 1970's and 1980's. A mix of glasses purchased from fast food restaurants of the era. I ordered a full tank breakfast. The steak said to be wagyu. I found is seasoned very well and more tender than most breakfast steaks. The Helen Smash browns were fun and interesting a less crunchy hash brown but the flavor of them was excellent. I opted for a biscuit instead of the usual toast options for an up charge. It was large and flaky but had some harder edges that were hard to eat. The flavor of the biscuit was very good. All in all I would describe the food as good and worth a return visit but to be honest the experience was more enjoyable than the food. It is a very touristy place but an experience I recommend for an enjoyable, relaxing experience not necessarily if you're just wanting a good meal. read more

My husband and I went down to the farmers market in the rain this morning. Decided to try a new place for breakfast. We stopped at "the Helen SE corner of 11th and Peoria in the Meadow Gold district. Is a great place to be on Route 66 it is what I would call a touristy place. The Tulsa Art on a wall which I have posted in photos I took I thought was so cool. The glasses are retro, I had the Return of the Jedi Burger King collectors cup. My husband has the Pepsi collectors cup Bugs Bunny. I got the Omelette Your Way Three-egg omelette with your choice of three items: sautéed mushrooms, caramelized onions, spinach, bacon, ham, pork sausage, Swiss, cheddar, or American cheese. Served with Helen smash browns and a choice of toast. Add an item for one dollar. (gluten-free option available) The omelet was good and cheese. The Helen browns (Hash-Browns) were served in a nest was good but the potato's were not fully cooked in the middle. Still the crunchy from raw potatoes. The pickled onions were good, different flavor than my Husband makes and I could not quite make out the different flavor but different was good. Our Waitress was Amazing and checked on us several times while there. We will definitely be going back. Our check at the end came in another retro cup with Porky Pig with the saying that's all folks. The hubs and I love to find a great brunch/breakfast spot in Tulsa. We chose to try out the Helen since it's fairly new and nearby where we had an event to attend. We arrived right at 11am on Sunday and there was a group waiting inside. But, there wasn't a wait for 2 people. We were immediately seated by the kind hostess and shortly thereafter greeted by our waiter. After perusing the menu, I chose the French toast stack and my husband had biscuits and gravy with a side of hashbrowns and a side of bacon. The food was delicious! I just wish a protein of some sort would've come with the French toast, especially for the price. And, it was around $25 for the biscuits/gravy with both sides (has browns and bacon). The portions aren't large so I just think the value is off. But, food was great, service was great, and it's right on Route 66 so that's my reason for the 4 stars. read more

The cutest breakfast place!! The inside felt so homey and welcoming. We sat down and started off with some coffee and their "cake of the day" (banana) and it was fantastic. I got their classic omelette while my fiancé got their sliver dollar stack. Both of these dishes were very delicious but the thing that stood out to me the most was the owner checking in on all the tables, bussing the tables, and helping out his waitstaff. His kindness and love for his restaurant was just so nice to see and we can not wait to go back! read more

Ok, AGAIN apologies up front for not including pictures, I'll try better next time we go... Wow, what amazing experience Tim Rucker gained while in the restaurant industry in New York city!! SO cool that he has come home to T-town to share his knowledge of his culinary experiences while there. The Helen is COOL with a great atmosphere. I could picture it in NYC if we weren't looking at Tracy Park across Peoria. We especially liked all the various funky, retro, repressed light fixtures. We went for a late brunch on a Sunday morning. While it was nearly full, our timing was great and we were seated immediately at about 12:30. I'm a native of "Smallsa" as I like to refer to it since hearing it from a friend not long ago and know the Rucker family, though I never had the pleasure of meeting Tim. I introduced myself and my wife and after learning that I knew his dad (God rest John's soul; he was a GREAT man) and some of his siblings, he was a most EXCEPTIONAL host and genuinely solicited our thoughts and feedback, which obviously were all positive. Now to the good stuff--THE FOOD!! My wife ordered the Chickee Chickee Sando, a fried chicken thigh on a potato roll with caramelized onions, house-made bread-and-butter pickles, and black pepper aioli. She LOVED it!! I went for the Tulsan BEC (can't imagine why it was calling my name, lol!). It came with candied BEEF "bacon" (D E L I C I O U S!!!), American cheese, and a fried egg. It was perfectly over-medium as ordered, and comes on white bread, but I was able to substitute gluten-free bread. It was the PERFECT combination for a breakfast samny!! We both had the coleslaw slaw and potato chips as sides; both are house-made as well and were SO much better than stuff out of a bag.... I volunteered in some kitchens when I retired and you would likely be amazed how much stuff is already processed and ready to serve and kitchens simply don't go to the effort to make things from scratch...guess what?? I was exited to try this place. I loved the way they had this place decorated. I also loved the retro drinking glasses. The wait staff were very friendly. Our waitress was very attentive, however the food was not anything spectacular. The hash browns looked like they were going to be very good but lacked flavor. I had the biscuits and gravy. The gravy was cold and so I asked if they could heat it up for me. I thought maybe it was from being plated while they were waiting on my husband's plate. They took it back and re-plated a new order. When I got it the gravy was a little warmer, but not much the sausage bits were cold. After biting into the cold sausage I was done. Not worth the $50 total we paid at all. read more

Our server, Maritza was great so this review is no reflection of her. We called ahead and there was no wait. We arrived and I liked the blue color choice of the interior, the way the tables are set gives it the feel of a cafeteria and that's not bad just an observation. I ordered the morning fuel up which isn't described as a burrito but looks like one. It was toasted nicely on the outside but the ingredients had excess liquid so it was also soft and wet. It was not folded correctly so the ingredients fell out. Taste overall was just okay- nothing remarkable. My partner ordered the sunrise on 66 and commented that the bacon seemed to have been reheated and said there was nothing great about the meal. Half order of French toast had was soft and not in a good way and seemed to not have been soaked enough or cooked to get a nice crust on the outside. Disappointing as other reviews suggested it was pretty good. Overall the ambience is nice and clean. Food is underwhelming and I hope they are able to improve execution of items and work and improve on quality. As for us there is no rush to go back until I hear from someone that it's gotten better. Spending $60 and feeling underwhelmed by a brunch is truly disappointing because Tulsa usually does good right. read more

My daughter and I had brunch at The Helen, at 1306 E 11th St, Tulsa today. It is a very cute diner located on historic Route 66. They are open Wednesday through Sunday 7 am -2:30 pm. My daughter had the Avocado Toast with scrambled eggs. She declared it to be excellent. I had Sunrise on 66, two eggs (my choice was scrambled), choice of bacon, ham, sausage patty or chicken sausage link. I chose bacon which was done to perfection. Also included was Helen smash browns (crispy and yummy) and choice of toast. All delicious. To top it all off, we shared the Cinnamon Roll Crumb Cake, which is a must try! The atmosphere was relaxed and the staff and owner made us feel at home. We will be back for sure! read more

This place is fantastic and I'm fairly critical. Food was perfectly balanced and fresh. The owner was very friendly and interacting with the customers during a busy Friday breakfast. Our server, Luke "vazzle dazzle" was very attentive and personable. I really can't say anything bad about it and plan on hitting them up again during our short weekend trip. read more

We ate at the previous Wildflower for years and it was a favorite. Went in to give Helen a try. They seated four groups who arrived after we did. When I asked when we would be seated, our name wasn't even on the list. They all stood there with blank looks and did nothing to rectify the problem so we left. Probably will not return. read more

Got the eggs Benedict with a side of tomato relish and pickled onions, and it was pretty solid. The hash browns were nice and crispy, which is how I like them!
