We loved the spicy maple syrup that accompanied the fried chicken and waffles. The chicken was also moist and well seasoned. Steak salad was average and pretty much on par with any other restaurants. Drinks need room for improvement....

Solid experience once again. We came for Father's Day brunch. Friendly staff and got seating right it away. As expected but linger for food but still reasonable knowing every table of this large restaurant is filled with other patrons. Shrimp and grits. The shrimp large juicy and had natural sweetness. I love sauce but this was a bit over sauced for me. My son love his steak eggs and fruit. Pork Silog was ok. Garlic rice was great, pork was a bit one note.

Next time we should get back to our usual favorites which is burger, fried chicken, Cobb salad etc.

We started here for dinner before heading out to a concert. Dinner was perfection and so were the drinks. I never know of this little gem of a place in Lafayette until my friend raved about it. I'm happy she suggested it before we headed out to our concert in Oakland. My friend had the boneless Mary's chicken, yukon & russet mash, braised kale, truffle honey and I, blackened salmon spanish spices, brown rice & quinoa pilaf, roasted vegetables, pesto. To me it was a lot of food for the price, so I ended up taking half of my meal home to have as leftovers for dinner the following night. Check them out.

I had been to the restaurant that was previously at this location a few years ago and had been wanting to try The Hideout Kitchen. I came here this morning with some friends and we really enjoyed our meal! First, I LOVE that they take reservations online via Open Table. We have been to other restaurants for brunch that don't take reservations and had to wait 45-60 mins to get seated. I arrived a few mins early and was immediately seated after checking in. My friends were running late so I appreciated that they didn't make me wait until the rest of the party arrived. The entrees we got were the ube pancakes, tomato soup and grilled cheese, chorizo tacos, and a Benedict. The ube pancakes were a generous portion and the ube sauce wasn't overly sweet. I tried a piece of the grilled cheese one of my friends ordered, which was perfectly cheesy. Though I didn't partake as a non-meat eater, my friends seemed to enjoy the chorizo tacos. Friends had mimosas and a lychee martini. Next time I'll have to take uber or Lyft there so I can enjoy them without being too drunk to drive! Waiter was friendly and we didn't have to wait long for the food or check. We had a great table outside. Although we were near a lot of car and foot traffic, we could still talk and hear each other at a normal volume. I'd love to try the grilled cheese with tomato soup on a chilly day, which are probably far and few now that it's spring. Maybe next time I'll try the brioche French toast or the breakfast burrito.

We love The Hideout! Been coming here for a long time, maybe 10 years ago when it was near the Soccer Post. Everything I've had there is fabulous! The owner JB is a great human! He helped many local businesses during the pandemic!

Love that this place takes a homage to my Filipino roots with their pulled pork silogs and Ube pancakes. We loved the spicy maple syrup that accompanied the fried chicken and waffles. This is a good place to come after spending time at the Lafayette Reservoir! They have lovely outside seating and a casual atmosphere, but feels slightly upscale too. We were seated immediately, but it took about 10 minutes for a server to come to our table. However, he took our drink and food order quickly and took good care of during our visit. We went for brunch/lunch on a weekday. They have a great variety of options for food, something for everyone! We started with coffee, which tasted good and I liked the mugs and little pitcher of cream alongside. There was a little bit of the grounds in the coffee, but not so much to make it unpleasant. To eat, I had the steak frites. It's not your traditional steak frites, which was nice to see! The chimmichuri sauce was the perfect topping for the steak. The fries were cooked to my liking (not too crispy) and the steak was seasoned well. If I were to order it again, I'd ask for medium rare as opposed to medium to make it an even better eating experience. However, it was delicious! The other people in my party had the smoked brisket panini and the honey fried chicken. Both of these dishes were delicious as well. The chicken is one of their best selling dishes. Bright Saturday morning before rainy week ahead

Continues to be go to brunch place but this time I would rate it 3.5 stars We ordered curry chicken wrap - though flavorful it could do with more seasoning, less burning and moisture or curry. Frittata has always been our favorite but it was also dry, I liked it when they served it in the baking dish itself. Drinks were good. Chocolate martini and bubbly both were good. Being Easter Sunday their kitchen was backed up. So it took them solid 30 minutes to bring the food. But after that they did get us the spicy aioli and were quick to serve whatever we wanted. We liked the previous location a bit better but atleast this is more open. All the parking spots are paid and only coin or credit card are accepted. Three hr limit on the parking.

I dined at Hideout with a group of colleagues after a long training day. Great experience. We enjoyed both indoor and outdoor space. We landed at a table in the bar for happy hour - this is where my only critique comes in. The chairs at the high tops in the bar are "half stools" - not enough seat to rest comfortably on. Each member of my party commented on them as they sat down and groaned when they stood up later. We then had dinner on the patio and it was delightful. We shared a few appetizers - the mascarpone toast was the surprise favorite! Then a range of entrees - each one of them delicious. Hideout achieves that perfect blend of homey and chef-driven. True comfort food without feeling heavy. Our server took great care of us. I'd highly recommend this spot. Just choose your chair carefully.

Meatballs and polenta appetizer (Feb 2026)

Came in for a pre-movie dinner on a busy Friday night, and other than a few minor issues, we had an overall excellent experience. We got seated in the back room which was cozy and not as loud, which was great. Our server was friendly and put in our order quickly after we let him know that we had to try to make a movie time in nearby Walnut Creek. Because the restaurant was pretty busy, it was understandable that the kitchen was also handling a lot of orders, and all things considered, the food came out pretty quickly overall. The wedge salad was an excellent portion and had a different type of dressing than your usual blue cheese, and even though it was lighter than a typical blue cheese dressing, it was very flavorful, and the salad was packed with tomatoes and crispy bacon, along with crisp iceberg lettuce. The French onion soup was bubbling hot and rich, and the meatball and polenta appetizer included tender, nicely seasoned meatball over creamy polenta and a rich gravy. The polenta was chunkier than we prefer but went well with the gravy and meatballs. The boneless honey fried chicken was outstanding, with crispy skin, tender meat, and drizzled with tasty truffle honey. The potato fennel mash was smooth and salted nicely, and the sauteed kale with dried cranberries had good texture and flavors. Both sides complemented the fried chicken well. We were in a rush at the end to leave to get to the movie on time, and getting the check paid took a little longer than expected, but that was pretty minor. There are plenty of other menu options that we would like to try again in the near future and look forward to coming back soon.

It was a lovely evening to sit outside but the service was atrocious. They have a service level problem which is a shame bc the food is actually good. There was confusion between two server for our entire section of 6 tables, which led to delays in getting water, taking orders, receiving food (our chicken wings came our slow and was cold), (did not get a steakknife for my double porkchop, so the food got cold, I eventually flagged down the hostess who got me the correct knife vs a butter knife), and checking in the taste of the food (did not happen). I ordered an expensive dinner and it came out cold. Not great. I'd say I am 0-2 at The Hideout now. It's just not worth the service difficulties - every table in our section had delays and difficulties. It is so off-putting that you'll want to leave. Btw they add "+3% service fee to all transactions" which you'd think would equate to the commensurate level of higher service. Hope they can improve bc the hostess was great, the food was very good, and the ambiance is solid. Despite that I'm not sure I'd ever come back. Yes, that's how badly the service staff is run there. Poor experience, good (cold) meal.

I love the hideout kitchen. On a nice day, sitting on the patio, I'm swept away to somewhere else. I feel like I'm on vacation and everything on the menu is a delicious getaway. Every time we go, there is a different menu. Brunch is one, happy hour (mid day offerings) and then there was dinner. I'm sure those rotate items as well. The food is great, lots of savory options that are on the healthier side. The meatballs and polenta, mussels, brussels and salads were delicious. This place is dog friendly, they have a nice patio for your well behaved best friends. Service was friendly and the whole place is just nice. Highly recommend.

Food and Drinks were very tasty and of high quality. We ordered the cheeseburger, the Sesame Seared Ahi, one of the beers from their rotational tab and a cocktail (Manhattan). For desert we had Marianne's Mid Pie. We sat on the patio with our dog and the service was very friendly and efficient. The patio is very inviting and tastefully decorated. We will be back!

The owner JB invited back for dinner after our less than stellar lunch experience. I'm really glad that we accepted as we had a MUCH better meal. We were sat at the bar and started off with a glass of Pinot Noir and tea. The staff recommended Brussel Sprouts did not disappoint, and the wedge salad was the surprise of the meal; turning what could have been a boring salad into an amazing, unique riff on the steakhouse classic. A subtle Gorgonzola balanced perfectly with the well cooked lardons, all dressed with a refreshing yogurt dressing. We wrapped up with the bone-in Lamb chops, perfectly frenched and packed with a ton of flavor. Absolutely PERFECTLY medium rare with the right amount of seasoning. If we had saved room, we would have indulged in the waffle ice cream sandwich, we were seriously drooling over it! Thanks JB, well definitely be back. read more

Definitely a hidden gem. I fell in love with this place when my husband and I came for dinner. We sat at the bar, met the owner, and devoured the clams appetizer (if you try it, you'll need more bread! Dip it in the sauce. It's to die for). The dinner menu is perfect. There's definitely something to accommodate different tastes. Waffle churros with a side of vanilla ice cream is the best. But the hospitality of everyone who works there is what sets this place apart. Our server had all the best recommendations and getting to chat with JB was welcoming. Great guy who cares bout quality meals with big portions. He believes that if you leave hungry, he didn't do his job right. My husband and I came back to try the brunch menu and had to get the #WaffleSandwich -- when we brought our daughter for brunch a few weeks later, I tried the morning glory. The Hideout Kitchen is officially a family favorite. We're coming back to try everything else. You can't go wrong no matter what you order on any menu they have. read more

Cute location with an excellent shaded patio, and huge plus for us being dog friendly! Very tasty food (our party tried the honey chicken, linguine, and a burger and each person enjoyed their meals). I ate here three weeks ago and my mouth is still watering at the idea of eating there. I can not stop asking my friends for us all to go back here. I went for dinner, and shared a buttered apple flatbread, polenta and ragout, and the short rib stew. The flatbread combined flavors together that I would not have expected but created a party in your mouth, the polenta ragout was to die for, and the short rib stew was positively incredible. I haven't had braised short ribs that tender in a while. If you haven't eaten here yet, you have to go!!! Also, if you can't decide what to order, feel free to ask someone what their favorite thing is on the menu, I have never received a better answer to that question yet. read more

My babe and I had dinner here tonight and it was wonderful! Although they suggest that you make a reservation because the place is small, I was able to walk right in and get a great table! The ambiance was so cozy and welcoming! The wait staff was amazing and attentive. Now lets talk about the food!!! SCREAMING!!!!!!! EVERYTHING WAS DELICIOUS! We Ordered the shrimp grits and it was perfect! They expanded the place! I like the new library. Food is consistently good here. The signature honey fried chicken is very good as usual. The law with cranberries was a nice touch. My wife had it and I got a few bites. I had the linguine with clams which were excellent. The sauce was lightly creamed so you can taste the clams. Pasta was al dente. Checking in on yelp gave us a free cranberry bread pudding which was topped with vanilla ice cream and surrounded by fresh berries. Always good to come back. read more

The hostess was very friendly and so was the rest of the staff. The food was very good! Five stars. Although are waiter was polite and courteous I just couldn't get over the fact that he was wearing a hat that plainly said "F*** This Sh*t"!!!!! Afterwards I noticed his attention to detail reflected what his hat said... f this sh*t. Great place! I just wish the staff would dress appropriately and made it seem like they wanted to be there. Initial impression is that this place is super popular and you will wait to be seated. I'm not exactly sure why it's so hugely popular. I thought the food was just okay, nothing special. I mean, my potatoes were just seasoned with Lawry's salt. I feel like you could get a little more creative than that. I would like to try for dinner and then I hope I could update my review to be a little more favorable. Service was very friendly and accommodating and I like the set up with the outdoor dining area. Perfect for a warm day. I hope to have a better experience with the food next time. read more

Went here for breakfast on a Tuesday after seeing the good reviews on yelp. We discovered that they don't serve their full breakfast menu during the week but they did offer a few items which worked out good for us. I tried the waffle sandwich and it was very delicious and I was very satisfied with the portion. The breakfast potatoes were cooked perfect and tasted great with a little bit of ketchup. The iced tea was also very good and refreshing. This was a very good find and will return when in the area. read more

Price is fair for the quality, if you think it's too high, it might be because you have too high of an expectation. Best place to have brunch in the East Bay post Caldecott Tunnel. The Harvest Scramble with side salad was delish! Loved that they included goat cheese in the salad and that the salad has a variety of texture - wonderful combination of asparagus, spinach shallots, bell perppers, and garlic. The side salad was a meal by itself and so appropriately matched with the scramble. Nice patio! Great parking. Centrally located in Lafayette. read more

This place is just so cute. The atmosphere is so cozy and comfortable especially for dinner with the tealit candles. The food is amazing, i ordered the 7 cheese rigatoni with chicken and it was some of the best mac and cheese ive ever had. The order came with alot of food so i had plenty to take home and it was just as good the next day. I also tried the Roasted turkey BLT and that was one of the best sandwiches ive had in awhile. Friends ate here and gave it rave reviews. I'm a fiend for fried chicken so I had to go. So when I sit down I see many things I want to try because the dinner menu is awesome but Im locked in for the Fried Chicken. Got it and yes, tasty coating, not too salty, and best part was it was all boneless. A-frickin-mazing!! Also had the bread pudding, churro waffle, and Brussels sprout app. ALL THE FOOD WAS GREAT!! Server even dropped me a carafe of iced tea cuz I drink a ton of that too. Definitely will be back. Would give it 6 stars if I could. read more

Went this morning and ordered the wAffle sandwich and my husband ordered the chili omelette and both were out of this world. We had to wait about 30 minutes to eat but it was well worth it! Will definitely be coming again for brunch or dinner or both! read more

Additionally, we received complimentary fresh baguette and butter. For my main dish, I decided to try the quenelle, which can be described as a soft dumpling made from seafood purée that resembles a velvety soufflé. I taught myself a long time ago to completely avoid Indian food places in the Walnut Creek - Lafayette neighborhoods. For whatever reason, I finally decided to try this place (in some 17 years of living in Walnut Creek). This place also confirms my previous experiences. Will skip this place for good. Not even sure where to begin the story with this experience--it's one I honestly wish I could close the book on quickly. The Hideout sounded promising, but unfortunately, this chapter turned into more of a cautionary tale than a page‑turner. To give credit where it's due, we were seated promptly, and the host was incredibly warm and welcoming--full of smiles and good energy. That moment? Easily the highlight of the entire visit, the only part worth bookmarking. Our waiter was kind enough, but nothing that stood out--just going through the motions, no extra effort to really elevate the experience. Now, here's where the plot starts to unravel. Within five minutes of sitting down, we had already placed our drink and food orders, expecting things to move along smoothly. Instead, we were left in a long, drawn-out wait--20 minutes for drinks. Yes, 20. We went through two rounds of water and nearly got up ourselves to check on the status. By the time the drinks finally arrived, our food followed just a minute later, making the whole pacing feel rushed and poorly written. The drinks were a real letdown. The Irish coffee was acceptable, but my sangria was... honestly, a sad little side note. One lonely slice of orange, watered-down ice, and a flavor that tasted like it came straight from a can. It looked tired, tasted flat, and definitely didn't live up to expectations--hardly a refreshing twist in the story. Then came the food, which didn't redeem things. Lunch today at the Hideout was an unplanned highlight of my day. I was looking for a quiet place to eat lunch on the East side of Lafayette and was not having much luck finding anything that wasn't going to be heavy or fast food. I pulled into the Hideout parking lot to turn my car around and then I saw it...the perfect lunch spot. I parked easily (no easy feat in Lafayette!) and went inside to be cheerfully greeted by one of the waiters. They seated me immediately and were attentive, courteous, and helpful the entire time. The owner introduced himself and poured my high end sparkling water for me and asked me how my day was going..very friendly. First time dining here tonight after hearing from friends in town that there was a new place to eat. We had to check it out of course. They were busy tonight but they accommodated us as fast as they could. We only waited about 5 min so it wasn't bad at all. The guy that sat us was very nice and told us the server would be with us shortly and to enjoy dinner. Maybe he was manager because he was greeting other tables and kind of moving about the dining room. Anyways, my wife had the bologonese pasta and I had the honey chicken. They both were excellent and we had some bread to soak up the delicious sauce from the pasta. I love fried chicken so I was excited to try their version. It had a sweet flavor but it was also balanced with the saltiness of the chicken. Scalloped potatoes were awsome too....and the kale was great as well. All in all it was a well balanced dish. Pasta was like eating mom's recipe, and my mom can make a mean pasta. If the food had been mediocre (which is not even close to how amazing the hideout food is) Travis would have made it even better just by being our server. He was so polite and was quick with orders. He was also very friendly. (He was so nice, he made me feel like we were friends). I ordered the Honey Fried Chicken. I didn't have particularly high expectations...after all, it's just chicken, right? Then after I tried it, my tastebuds were practically dancing on my tongue. I shared a bite with each person at my table, and they all loved it. Aside the chicken on my plate, was a delicious mound of mashed potatoes. Mashed potatoes usually all taste the same, and have the same texture, but the mashed potatoes that they served me were amazing. Had a holiday brunch with girlfriends at this lovely spot. There's a convenient paid parking lot right across the street. While there wasn't a visible sign for "The Hideout," it's easy to find on the corner of Main Street. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating options. The host, hostess, and servers were incredibly friendly and attentive, making the experience even better. The food was absolutely delicious and beautifully presented. Portions were generous, so we ended up taking some home. The desserts were a standout treat! My personal favorite was the lemon tart, but the churros, resembling a waffle, were also authentic and flavorful. The cheesecake was perfectly balanced--not overly rich. The Hideout was highly recommended to me by a co-worker, so I decided to treat my teenage daughter to a good meal. Our food was pretty good, just kind of basic comfort food. But we had a really rough time with our server. I don't know how to describe it other than extremely awkward. He was clearly being very flirtatious with me, and like I said my daughter was with me. I kind of laughed it off at first but then realized he wasn't stopping when I was clearly uncomfortable. It ended up being a terrible experience over all. We recently had brunch at "The Hideout Kitchen" and discovered they had moved to a new location. Initially impressed by the expanded seating, our experience quickly soured. We were seated immediately but waited 20 minutes before our order was taken. Additionally, our server spilled water on the table, poorly cleaned it, and left the surface wet, requiring further assistance to tidy up. My Arnold Palmer was mostly lemonade, lacking the proper balance with tea. Previously, we enjoyed frequent visits to The Hideout for its food and service, but since the move, both the quality of the food and the service have declined. Came in tonight with grandma and family. First time eating here but I heard through friends it was a good place. Turns out my grandma reserved a spot for us and didn't know until we got here. It was busy but our server was attentive and made sure we were ok the whole time. I has the fried chicken and it was awsome. I like kale too so it was a good matching. My wife and I dined at the Hideout. The decor was nice and the place seemed like a great place to eat. Unfortunately, we had the worst possible service. A server named Brian waited on us, yet we felt like he held us hostage by telling us his life story. We merely wanted to order and enjoy one another's company, but instead could barely get through ordering as Brian had to go on and on talking about, honestly we don't know what, and then each time he returned it was the same thing. I love this place and have been here many times, but I will not be returning after my last visit. My girlfriends and I came in to have some drinks and food, but our server made us so uncomfortable! He was extremely creepy! He was much older then us but continually hit on all of us, asking personal questions like if anyone had a boyfriend etc.. It's right around the corner from Bradley School of Music, so we often get a pot of coffee and some delicious breakfast each Saturday around brunch. When first started coming here, it was easier to get a seat, but word has definitely gotten around. The wait is never too long though and always worth it. I usually like coming to this place because it's on my way home. Since the remodel there has been a change in overall service and food and not for the better. There was only one party ahead of us waiting to be seated, and it didn't even appear that they had been acknowledged. About two or three minutes later, a gentleman came over, asked how many were in their party, and seated them. We then waited another five minutes before the bartender finally looked over and asked, "Have you been helped?" We replied, "No." He asked how many were in our party, whether we preferred inside or outside seating, and then seated us inside. After sitting for about 10 minutes with no acknowledgment from the server, the bartender returned and took our order. I had two very simple modifications to my meal. I repeated them a couple of times just to make sure they were noted, as they were nothing complicated. I simply didn't want two ingredients that normally came as garnishes. The bartender read my order back, confirmed the modifications, and walked away. About 35 minutes later, our food finally arrived, but we still hadn't received our beverages. I politely asked another server, who had yet to acknowledge us once during our visit, if we could please get our cappuccino. He brought over a regular coffee instead. I politely explained that we had actually ordered a cappuccino. He seemed irritated but said, "Fine, I'll go get it for you." Unfortunately, my food wasn't prepared correctly despite the bartender repeating the order back to me. Even more disappointing, my entire meal was ice cold. The scramble was cold, the toast was cold, and honestly, nothing on the plate was warm. What made the experience even more frustrating was that there wasn't a single opportunity to mention any of this. The bartender never came back. The server never checked on us. Even the person who delivered our food never returned to ask how everything was. We were essentially forgotten after our meals were dropped off. I genuinely hate writing negative reviews because I work in customer service myself and understand firsthand how overwhelming the service industry can be. I completely understand getting busy. What I don't understand is completely ignoring your guests. Even when you're overwhelmed, acknowledging customers and checking in, even briefly, makes a huge difference. Looking back, I probably should have taken the condition of the restaurant as a warning sign. When we walked in, there were numerous tables inside that still had dirty plates, cups, and leftover food from previous guests. The outdoor patio looked the same. What surprised me most was that many of those same tables were still covered in dirty dishes when we left. I wasn't expecting perfection, but I was expecting much more than what we experienced. We spent over $50, received cold food, an incorrect order, waited an unusually long time for drinks, and never had a single opportunity to let anyone know because no one ever checked on us. It was honestly a very disappointing experience, especially after hearing such positive things about this restaurant.
