House Old Fashioned
Edie A.

The High Lonesome is a neighborhood bar that has been around for 8 years. A bison overlooks the patrons from the bar with a great selection of whiskey and other spirits. Bartenders are super friendly and greet you when you walk in the door. They have a rotating list of cocktails based on the season as well as a large selection of beer. My favorite, though, is their House Old Fashioned. Usually $10 on their regular menu but also on special frequently. A smooth yet boozy blend of a dash of bitters, simple syrup, orange peel that is twisted into the cocktail, and whiskey poured over a cube of ice. Perfection.

Hip little bar in the highlands. Great place to stop for a date night or to grab a tasty cocktail. Ambiance is kinda dark and pretty chill but I enjoyed having a couple drinks at the bar before our dinner reservation.

my glass was so dirty and smelled like literal YEAST, absolutely save ur money and skip this place. my man was mad af he had to buy me a drink here and i didn't like it . Save ur money and go somewhere else.

Immediately loved the atmosphere of the bar. Drinks are great and the bar tender was attentive. Will be back when I'm in Denver!

I have a weakness for a great whiskey bar. My wallet knows it. My liver knows it. My wife…read moredefinitely knows it. Sometimes I show up hunting for rare pours. Other times I'm just in the mood for a cocktail that reminds me why I don't waste my time at places that think whiskey and cola is "craft." This visit was all about the cocktails, and Seven Grand absolutely delivered. Josh, our bartender, was running the room like a conductor leading an orchestra of happy whiskey drinkers. He asked what we liked, made a couple of recommendations for Old Fashioneds based on our preferences, and absolutely nailed it. Every drink was balanced, flavorful, and dangerously easy to sip. The guy knows his whiskey, knows his cocktails, and somehow still manages to make everyone at the bar feel like they're his only customer. The whiskey selection is enough to make a bourbon nerd lose all sense of financial responsibility, but surprisingly, we escaped without needing to refinance the house. If Josh doesn't own Seven Grand, someone should probably look into fixing that. Until then, I'll keep showing up to "try just one drink"... knowing full well that's a lie I tell myself every single time. Highly recommend. Just don't blame me when two hours mysteriously disappear.

They've gotten do much busier though. There must've been over 30 people at the bar getting drinks. But the 4 bartenders at the bar were slinging them out quickly. Even though they were fast the drinks were extremely well made and the customer service wad amazing. The ambiance was great!! Everyone was here to have a good time. But no one was overly rowdy or raucous. People were friendly and conversational but stayed in their lanes also. Even though all these years have passed. And the pandemic has ravaged many businesses. The quality and service here still makes this place one of the best whiskey bars around!!!

We showed up about 10 minutes before our start time, met our guide Michelle, and looked around the property and gift shop. The tastings were fantastic and it felt like the appropriate number for the 60-70 minutes of the tour. After the tour we got a drink at the bar to try another whisky that wasn't sampled on the tour. All the staff were friendly, knowledgeable, and laid back on our Sunday evening visit. They have other events that sound really fun to come back for! We had time to go grab a cocktail from the bar prior. Ryan was behind the bar, crafting beverages for folks. My husband chose to have a Sazerac, while I went for an espresso martini. Drinks in hand we headed back to spend time with Forrest, who took us on a brief tour of the facility. He gave us the history of how Stranahan's started. It was interesting to learn that they bottle by hand. We came to our tasting set up. At each couple there were jars with items to smell that would be aromas or tastes we would experience, like rose, leather, tobacco, and cinnamon. There were four tastes paired with caramel, cheese, chocolate and fig. Each pairing brought out different flavors in the whiskey samples. We both had a lovely time and at the end, I had my husband pick a favorite for me to get for him for his birthday. Great experience!

First, wife is a vegetarian and they had no mains other than Mac and cheese for her. She ordered the salad without chicken which was $25. They knocked it down to $22 after I asked why it was the same price without meat, which still seemed like a lot for a salad with no protein. Kids' Mac and cheese was not the same receipe as last time; it was a different noodle and seemed to be needing some salt as it was pretty bland. Unlike our last visit they did not include an ice cream for dessert. My fried chicken and waffles was ok--the breading was a bit soggy though and I much preferred the Nashville hot chicken from my last visit. If I'm being honest this was closer to a 2 star experience, but with how good the last visit was, I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt they maybe tonight they were just off. That said--need one vegetarian entree for the menu.

Started off down stairs but came up to the rooftop to sit closer to the Tv's. The bartender was good, the food came out quickly. The drinks were a little inconsistent. I got the same cocktail three times and each time they came out very different. The reason I took off two stars was because of the other patrons and disrespect of the staff. We were clearly there to watch the game, not a small game but the World Series! With 2 innings left another table came in and decided to be obnoxious. It was a family, and they asked to put on college baseball. The waiter went and changed the channel and the sound without asking or saying anything. We asked why they changed it because we were watching and he said it is still showing on a TV on the other side of the room. We would have had to move our table, food and drinks after we had been there for hours. Inevitably we were not able to finish the game and had to watch it on our phones. Of course the family who requested the change, wasn't even watching the games they asked to put on. No one asked us or even acknowledged until I asked. It was beyond rude and disrespectful, I doubt I will never come back here for a game after that experience. The entire situation was uncomfortable, and I can't help but think they wouldn't have done that if it was a group of men watching. Major bummer because the food and location is pretty good. Overall, 2/5 stars.

Sure you should. So I had the time to drive 20+ minutes from work to get to the northside to try out the Little Wolf's burger bar located inside the establishment and called the "Flip & Howl Burger Kitchen." (Don't ask me why.) I made the drive mainly because I'd asked AI where some of the best burgers were in Denver area and one of the answers (when I asked for "quality ingredients") was "Little Wolf/Flip & Howl Burger Kitchen." Made the drive for the Durango-sourced Colorado Wagyu beef/cheese burger that cost just a bit more than $10 a pop. Rating right up at almost a perfect 5 stars, the drive was worth it. And what made it so great? Not just the burger, but because as soon as I walked in the proprietor's first words were, "Want an ice cream cone on us?" While I thought it must have been because of my stylish aplomb and in-command presence . . . turns out everyone gets the same offer. (What a great marketing idea:). Took my burger, which by the way, tasted great, but of course ate my soft ice cream teaser cone first. Turned out to be a fine idea. End result? When you're looking for a great place for a blue-collar burger at an extremely reasonable price be sure to make the drive to the northside to give Little Wolf's a bite.
