I had the Canyon bowl with chicken. I know it's a new restaurant but my chicken was tough and dry. I don't know why the kitchen let the dish go out when it was so obvious. I let the wait staff know but her answer was to bring a sauce. It didn't help. The table next to us also complained to the wait staff- it was the chicken for a ceasar salad- also complaining of it being tasteless and dry. The manager was terrific, she saw the dish and took it off the bill. I don't think I will be returning anytime soon. read more

Recently opened, terribly disappointing. The space is more or less unchanged from Commoner. Poorly laid out and uncomfortable. The food was poorly prepared and lacked flavor. The chicken in both entrees was dry and inedible. Restaurant 101 : remove the tendons and brine the chicken. Even the table next to our party complained about their food. I realize they are just getting started and will give it another try in a few months. On the plus side the manager noticed we hardly touched our meals and compensated our party by removing them from the check. She was gracious and understanding. read more

My husband and I were so excited when The Hills opened, and it absolutely lived up to the hype. We stopped in on a Monday evening and had a fantastic experience from start to finish. We started with the whipped feta and honey appetizer, which was delicious. The bread served with it was incredible and honestly gave us a hint that their pizza must be amazing. For our entrees, I ordered the Catalina Chicken and my husband had the Far East Noodle Bowl. Neither dish disappointed. My husband wasn't initially craving the noodle bowl, but ended up being so glad he ordered it--it was unique, flavorful, and something different from the usual restaurant fare. We also enjoyed a couple of cocktails (I opted for a mocktail), and both were excellent. The drink menu alone is worth a visit. The ambiance is relaxed, welcoming, and thoughtfully designed. It's a super cute space that feels comfortable whether you're there for dinner or just stopping in for drinks with friends. We'll definitely be back and would happily come just for cocktails and appetizers next time. read more

Came for lunch on a short trip to Tucson. Had the Impala Burger and Fries. Food was good overall; texture on the burger was surprising but they tell you up front it's 30% mushroom in the blend. Fries were great. Service was stellar and despite being a busy lunch rush, service was great. read more

We had a reservation for 4 people at 1700 about a week ago. We showed up at 1650 the host told us that we were early and had to wait! Note: there were several open tables and we stood there and"WAITED!" We were finally seated at one of the open tables! After this glitch everything was fine. Good food and service! read more

We realize The Hills is a new restaurant and they still have a lot of kinks to figure out. We attempted to make a reservation on the Saturday evening before Memorial Day and they were booked. We waited and made a reservation for the following Wednesday at 5:45. When we arrived we were told we would have to wait for a table for 30minutes, or be seated at a high top in the bar. We said we would do that. We found the hi-top table to be way too high for the low seats. We felt like toddlers sitting at a table for adults. Our server, Chloe,was sweet and attentive. She said we were not the first to comment on the hi-top tables. The menu was a bit underwhelming and the food was "just okay". The fries arrived lukewarm as it took awhile for the food to arrive to our table. Hopefully, it will improve with changes made going forward. read more

The environment was nice. The service was not so good as not very attentive and slow. When they brought out food for our table said 1 entree was out so just brought the other people's food with us and said sorry what else want. So others at table eating and I had to wait for new entree. Asked for sour dough toast and they said out of that. Then asked for tortilla cookies and they said out of that. Offered chocolate chip cookie but had to cook it and took too long. They did apologize and not charge for 1 entree. As I went to bathroom saw the entree they told me was out being taken to another table. Very confusing. Not sure I'll go back. read more

Went to The Hills for lunch today. Loved where they placed us to dine, service was wonderful, and food was great. Loved it all. The walleye on Fridays - fish and chips, was really good. The only comment I would leave management is that some of the restaurant has fake turf on the ground on left side, which was super hard to walk on. Someone may fall. This is a new restaurant opening up as, hopefully, a local, comfortable spot near us. we went for dinner for mother's day. My wife had the Spicey Chicken Sandwich and a glass of Chardonnay. I have the Freebird Chicken & Fries and an IPA. Positives were (i) good ambiance, (ii) manageable noise level, (iii) decent service, (iv) good food (basically, elevated bar food), (v) reasonable price (just under $50 before tax and tip), (vI) our server had a trainee shadowing her, a very good thing to do (and overall, the waitstaff and hostess staff were very young, eager and friendly, plus they looked sharp - white shirts/blouses with black pants), (vii) we were not given big glasses of water to start or asked if we wanted water (which is like gold in the Arizona desert and mostly goes to waste when served to diners), and (viii) 100% unexpectedly, 25% discount on food (not drinks) because it is in a "soft opening" phase. That was really nice as a gesture (we don't care about the financial impact). No real negatives and we'd happily go back again. read more

Had a late lunch at the bar. I had the Impala Burger. i really enjoy that they take a responsible and unique approach to the house blended burger by adding Shitake Mushrooms in. The Billionaire bacon was amazing and paired well with the sauce. The Charro Margarita was perfectly balanced. The bar staff was very friendly and attentive. I'm very glad there is finally another great place in the neighborhood to eat in addition to Charro Cafe. I will defiantly be here a couple of times a week. read more

I came back to The Hills with my in-laws to show them this new neighborhood gem. After a great brunch here recently, I wanted to explore more of their menu. The place was packed, so we started at the bar while waiting for a table. However, the bartenders were so fantastic that we decided to just stay and eat there! Jose was incredibly busy crafting drinks, yet he managed to efficiently check on us and take our entire order without a hitch. The other female bartender (whose name I missed) was also very helpful; they make a great team and she made sure we were well taken care of too. My in-laws really enjoyed the wine, I believe it was La Crema. For appetizers, we tried the prickly pear meatballs and the whipped feta with honey; both were incredibly good! Following our bartender's recommendation, they ordered the Far East noodle bowl and the chicken pesto sandwich on focaccia. Everything was amazing. Since the portions are quite generous, we shared everything so we could save room for dessert. Even the fries were a highlight, clearly fresh-cut potatoes, which are the best kind! For dessert, we had the banana party and the smashed Oreo pudding. Just like the rest of the meal, they were no exception to the high quality, the pudding was so creamy it was the perfect sweet finish. This is definitely my go-to spot for any time of day and any occasion! read more

We took a chance on a brand new restaurant to celebrate Mother's Day and were pleasantly impressed. The location, interior decor , and the vibe, is awesome. The food, menu, and service were phenomenal! All of the staff were very welcoming, and polite. Our server was very knowledgeable, friendly, and quick. We can't say enough good about our experience. If you enjoy a crowded, noisy space with untrained young staff who have no concept of service, pacing or pleasing customers, head for The Hills. The food is meh, particularly the accompaniment to the salmon, a badly made/flavored "hash" of quinoa and butternut squash that was cold and tasteless. I had the Catalina Chicken which was chicken cutlets with pasta, fried arugala, lemons and capers. I am not a fan of arugala but it wasn't bad and the rest was delicious. It did not come with bread but I ordered a side of focaccia bread. My dinner partners had sandwiches which came with fries. This is a new restaurant and they are in the soft opening and everything was 25% off. I believe their opening is Mother's Day. Also the ambiance is nice and it is had the base of Catalina foothills. We made a reservation several days before we went to dine there yesterday. We arrived a little early and the young lady at the front desk said the table was still occupied and pointed it out to us. We said we just wanted to let her know that we were here. After a few minutes she came out to let us know that the people had left and it would be ready in 10 minutes. After 10 minutes past we went inside and checked on our table. It was cleaned up, but not set up yet. We stood waiting next to our reserved table, when different young lady came and said we could not have it because a lot of people were coming in. we asked what that had to do with our reservation and she offered us a small table with 2 wicker chairs which looked like decorations close to the toilets. We declined and told her that we would like to have the table that we were told was reserved for us and she declined. We then told here that we did not feel welcome anymore and we would. Leave and go to eat elsewhere. I have no idea what that was all about. We were dressed nice and our money is just as good as other peoples. Our credit rating is in the 800. I will never step foot again in that place and I will let all of my friends know about the really awful treatment we received. read more

My family was excited to dine at this newest creation from the Flores family, the owners of El Charro. This eatery is located in the space vacated by Commoner and Co. The seating is much more comfortable than it was under its predecessor. The food and service were first rate. Two of us had the salmon, which was excellent. Others in our party had the GOAT pizzeta and a Jules burger. Everyone was happy with the food, which was not overpriced. The only hiccup came when we presented our El Charro gift cards as payment. We had been told by El Charro employees that these gift cards would work at The Hills, which is located across the street from the El Charro on Kolb and Sunrise. Much to our dismay and upset, our server as well as the GM informed us that we had been misled. I expressed in no uncertain terms my displeasure. The owner Sasha Flores soon appeared at our table and graciously diffused the situation. She couldn't have been nicer. We left happy. I would highly recommend the HIlls, but DON"T bother bringing your El Charro gift cards. read more

From the food to the service I would definitely recommend, there were so many options on the menu so there is something for everyone! It was a beautiful restaurant very clean perfect for a date night or a family dinner.
