    5 Wings Dinner

When i worked over in this neighborhood i used to eat here at least once a week. I was in NE and wanted some food from here. Does not matter how long it has been the chicken is always the best! It's crispy and flavorful where you do not even need a sauce. I got mac and cheese and broccoli as my side. Bae loves the mac and cheese and cornbread. Definitely have to try this spot if you are not familiar!

there was a time in yester year when this place had GREAT food. A kinda of neighborhood, family owned meeting spot. I was excited to try it again with my family in tow. Quite possibly one of the worst meals I've had in a long long while, and still pretty darn expensive to boot. fried chicken. while it looked good, was clearly frozen and quickly thawed for cooking. the skin was pretty tasty but simply a blanket for mostly freezer burned and thus hard and dry meat. Let's talk about the $10 sides. Mac and cheese that tasted more like bland buttered noodles void of cheese. I was excited about the potato salad but to my dismay it's grossly sweet! who does that?! The pinch of sugar would do well in the bitter collard greens. Lastly, the fried chicken dinners average about $25 a piece for carry out. Now i'm a foodie and would hardly complain if it weren't so incredibly disgusting. . Sorry. i'm all for neighborhood, family owned businesses that unite communities, but the sweet little old couple that has run this place for years needs to retire. I'm giving it 1 star only because of nostalgia.

This is a wonderful little local spot, with delicious food and wonderful service. Came for the fried whole fish and fried chicken and we were not disappointed. The fried fish was perfectly battered, fresh and very tasty. Fried wings were juicy and delicious. Kiddo also ordered the burger , and it came in great size, she couldn't finish most of it. Appreciate the bartender who was also our waitress suggested the perfect cocktail to pair with our meal. Street parking only. Our overall experience was very satisfactory and highly recommended by @WineDinenVacay

    Crispy Spinach

This place is a gem. This is our favorite spot for our monthly girls' hangout! The food is always delicious--crispy spinach, neck bones & lima beans, and my personal favorite, the catfish. Alexia is amazing! She's always so helpful and handles our group of 10+ with ease and a smile. Milano is hands down my favorite bartender--if you need a drink, he'll make it just right every time. We've been coming here for over a year and look forward to it every month. Stop by, say hello to Milano, and grab a rum punch--you won't be disappointed!

    Fried Snapper Dinner

Sat at the bar, had the fried snapper dinner paired with cabbage and Mac and cheese. The fried snapper was exactly, fried fresh and came out HOT, which I loved. Being greeted when walking in is the normal here! I came here during happy hour, but the Snapper was todays special it is not on their normal day to day menu!

Great neighborhood restaurant on a quiet street. Large outdoor area where you can sip, eat, and enjoy your friends. Staff are super friendly and the atmosphere is cozy like your living room. The fried fish and chicken is about the best in the city. Both crispy and hot.Not greasy. The cabbage was pretty good too. Good soul food!

So the spot has been around since 1967. Now that definitely qualifies as being a DC staple. When you're around that long, there's something that you're doing right. So I had to go find out what that was. Where I am: http://thehpostrestaurant.com . Location Reviewed: 200 Upshur St., N.W. Washington D.C. . Menu Includes: Neckbone & Beans, Fish &Fries, Fried Pickles, & Crispy Spinach as appetizers. Cornbread, Fries, Cabbage, & Coleslaw as sides. Chicken Dinners, Pork Chops, Lamb Chops, Shrimp, Ribs, & Fish as entrees'. Burgers, Chicken sandwiches, Fried Catfish, & Crabcake sandwiches are also offered. They have a full bar as well. . What I reviewed/rating; Their Fish & Chips( fried whiting with hand cut fries $8-Happy hour price). DECENT. This starter was good. That's it. I wasn't wowed. Good price. The "Atomic" Burger (with bacon, onions, mushrooms, peppers, & cheddar $14). STAMP!! Juicy, & Spicy...the peppers, onions & cheddar brought this burger together!! Their side of potato salad ( came with the burger) was actually DELICIOUS!! It was recommended, I got it...I FINISHED it...which is not my norm with this dish. The Mac n Cheese (entree' side)was DELICIOUS as well. With a more creamy cheese rather than dense. Their Collard greens(entree' side)...DELICIOUS!! Seasoned well, it definitely had a meat as a conduit. Thumbs up!! Lastly I reviewed their Fried Chicken (2 breast 2 wings $20)...STAMP!! Fries to perfection!! Crispy, seasoned...you don't need any sauce with these!! . Customer Service: Excellent, informative, and pleasant. . Online Navigation: Fairly simple, no contact 3rd party delivery available. . Parking: Street. No meters. Outside seating available. . Recommendation: The Fried Chicken won't fail you here!! =STAMP =DELICIOUS =DECENT =PASS =NAH #Bjgschlimsreviews

Understanding that service can be a tad slow as they are juggling the kitchen and front end. I highly suggest you order online. Our order took about 40 minutes but everything was made fresh on the spot and came out hot so I'll take that anyday. If they can fix the front end by hiring someone else I think things could be much better however her daughter was doing her best and she was super nice and friendly. The menu is small but the food packs a punch. I ordered almost everything on the menu as I was hungry and really wanted to give them a shot. I ordered the Cajun Salmon but also added Shrimp and Chicken for $40. This is not on the menu as an item as I combined the 3 they have into one. I also ordered the Fried chicken entree and chose Candid Gams and Teriyaki Green Beans for sides $22. Lastly I ordered the Fried whiting entree which for sides I chose Mac and cheese and green beans $22. Both entrees came with cornbread. The Cajun Salmon was seasoned EXTREMELY well and was filled with onions and peppers. There were Large shrimp, I wish the tail was off, a healthy piece of salmon and good chicken. It is a large portion as it filled the entire container. I couldn't stop eating it. The fried chicken entree with candid yams and teriyaki greens beans was good as well. Amazing candid yams. Made just like my wife's. Soft, sweets and mouth watering good. Yum yum yum. The fried chicken was great. Seasoned well. Crispy and juicy. They weren't up to the chef's liking as they were a little darker than normal so they tossed in another 3 on the side. Both sets were good for me. The green beans were good. Couldn't really taste the teriyaki but good nonetheless less. The fried whiting was good as well. I love that the lid had wholes poked so that my fish wouldn't be wet by the time I got home. Instead the fish was nice and crispy. The Mac and cheese was old school Mac and cheese. It was ok. The collard greens were your mommas collard greens. Just how you'd expect. The cornbread's for both dinners was soft, and tasty. Overall I'll absolutely be back. This might be a regular once a month stop for me. The food is GREAT! Soulful for sure. Momma Tee can cook. The service is great and now that I know to order in advance I won't have to wait nearly as long. They definitely have a returning customer in me. Go go go in you're nearby.

At that time, I was upset about what happened with George Floyd a week earlier; still in 2026, it was wrong what happened to Floyd (not to mention more recent news that happened in that city was horrible too). I hung out with a friend on that warm day having a beer outside his apartment in Takoma Park. He is a mega-leftist politically (I'm more independent), but said he wanted to support a black-owned business; I said that's a good idea; I might do that for dinner. He was doing his own thing for dinner, so I was on my own. So, I looked up on Yelp what was in the area, and I saw just across the border in DC, Oohh's & Aahh's. Staff was nice, and I got a fried chicken platter. As this was Covid times, there was no dine-in. So, I schlepped all the way straight up Georgia Ave 6 miles back to my home in Wheaton fairly quickly on that Sunday as I don't like my food getting cold. I think my food stayed pretty hot as it was well-wrapped, and if it had cooled off, I could always microwave at home. The fried chicken, mac n' cheese (my favorite vegetable...I know not really a veggie but a joke), etc. were all solid. If I was ever over here, I'd consider coming back; just so rare I go to DC these days.

We came in as paying customers to purchase food, as we have done on prior occasions. While placing our order, a comment was made telling us that we could "go down the street to a church to pick up our food." This statement was made loudly enough for others to hear, and it caused laughter among those present. We did not find this to be humorous. There is no such church nearby, and more importantly, we had not engaged in any conversation or behavior that would invite that kind of remark. Being singled out in that way felt disrespectful and unnecessary. I approached you calmly to ask why that comment was made. Instead of acknowledging it, the situation escalated. You became loud, refunded our money, and asked us to leave, even though we were willing to stay, receive our food, and move forward. As returning customers, we expected to be treated with a basic level of courtesy and respect. This experience did not reflect that. I am sharing this not to create conflict, but to bring awareness to how such interactions can impact customers. Respectful communication matters, and moments like this can determine whether customers choose to return. Sincerely, Mr. and Mrs Mahdi

My African American military family arrived at 11:00 a.m. sharp on Father's Day. I mention "military family" because I want to paint an accurate picture: we weren't a loud or unruly group. We were five adults, five well-behaved children, and two infants looking to enjoy brunch together. The restaurant was completely empty. Not "a few open tables" empty--completely empty. No one was even sitting at the bar. When we told the hostess we didn't have a reservation, she went to get a manager. What struck me immediately was how flustered he became the moment he saw our group. He came out red-faced, visibly agitated, and immediately launched into how they were completely booked and there was "no way" he could seat a party of 12. We even asked if we could split into two groups of six and were met with the same response: impossible. We stood there looking at an entirely empty restaurant while being told there was absolutely no way we could be accommodated. The whole interaction was honestly bizarre. Confused, we simply said "okay" and started walking away. As we were already down the sidewalk, a hostess came after us and explained that we could sit on the patio, which was first-come, first-served. We could order through a QR code and have food brought to us. That was completely fine with us. In fact, with children and infants, the patio was arguably a better option anyway. The truth is, by that point we stayed more out of convenience than anything else. Getting five children and two infants back into three separate vehicles and finding another restaurant felt like more of a hassle than it was worth. Looking back, I wish we had simply left. Which raises the obvious question: if the patio was available all along, why wasn't that the manager's response from the beginning? Why did he act as though seating us was impossible instead of simply saying, "Our indoor dining is reserved, but you're welcome to sit outside"? I do not make accusations of racism lightly. However, after reflecting on the experience, I cannot escape the conclusion that race played a role in how my family was treated. The manager's reaction upon seeing our group, his immediate insistence that there was "no way" to seat us despite an empty restaurant, and the fact that available seating existed all along created an experience that felt unmistakably exclusionary. The interaction nagged at me throughout the meal, especially when my children and nieces and nephews started asking, "Why didn't the restaurant want us to eat here? The place is empty?" That's not a conversation I expected to have with children on Father's Day. When we left about 90 minutes later, both the dining room and patio were still far from full. I counted 8 open tables inside and 5 open tables on the patio at 12:30. I understand reservations. I've dined all over the world. But Moreland's is not a Michelin-starred restaurant with a months-long waitlist. It's a neighborhood pub--closer to an upscale Applebee's than fine dining. Yet somehow my family was made to feel unwelcome from the moment we walked through the door. After years of being a customer, that is deeply disappointing.

Unfortunately, the overall experience fell short of my expectations. The fish sandwich was somewhat oily, and the coleslaw had a tangier flavor profile than I personally prefer. While the chicken had some enjoyable flavor, the seasoning and coating appeared to vary between pieces. The texture was also different from what I anticipated, as it was quite tender and fell apart easily, and the coating slid off giving it a texture that seemed more similar to roasted than traditionally fried chicken. The seafood basket also presented a few concerns. The shrimp seemed slightly overcooked, and the cod did not taste as fresh as I had hoped. In addition, the honey butter rolls did not seem to be at their freshest, as the texture was somewhat firm. Definitely frozen! I think it's safe to conclude that the rolls are store bought dinner rolls that are simply tossed in the oven for a few minutes and brushed with butter. I understand that experiences can vary, and it's possible that dine-in service differs from takeout. However, based on this particular order, and the price I would likely consider other options before ordering from this location again.
