I've been to Holbrook House a couple of times for lunch and really enjoyed the food. The burger is fantastic. My most recent visit with friends for drinks was really a masterclass in customer service. We arrived around 6:30pm and didn't have reservations, so we were told to check for seats by the bar. The manager noticed us searching and guided us stay in an area where he believed the party to be leaving soon. We did stay there but another party ended up leaving sooner, and the manager still kept us informed. It was nice of him to remember our party and look out for seats for us. While pricey, the atmosphere, drinks, staff are worth it. Definitely a must see in the Financial District. read more

Finally made it to Holbrook House. I've passed it numerous times and actually used to work in this building before Holbrook House even existed. Beautiful open, airy, classy place. Indoor and outdoor seating, nice place for a group outside and maybe one of the smaller tables inside for a date. Drinks are creative and have great presentation, but are on the pricey side, but so is everywhere else in the fidi for the most part. Part of what you are paying for is the ambiance. The online menu from their website is not up to date with food or drinks. I had looked before going and had a drink that I was planning to get, but sadly it was unavailable. I thought I was coming prepared, but had to scramble to find a backup choice. The french fry flight had a delicious trio of fries, all of them tasty, and some nice sauces for dipping. Perfect complement to the drinks. The service was pleasant and even when there was a mix up on one of the food orders, they took care of it and let us keep the mis-delivered item. I like how the restaurant is the opposite inside - moody and sultry, perfect for a Happy Hour or late night meal. But in the daytime? You should be outside. The menu offers a delicious sounding raw bar, including oysters, crudo and lobster. We opted for a more traditional lunch of chopped salad (pass) and the crab linguine (would order again). What a beautiful space for sips and nibbles. It's difficult to get a reservation but it's well worth it. The staff was very attentive and knowledgeable, offering lots of dining suggestions. My group wanted to experience the martini cart, and oh boy was it an experience. I believe the server's name was Amber and she walked this through multiple ways you could create a concoction. My two friends chose very fancy martinis with blue cheese olives and a caviar bump. The highlight for me was seeing the long pour of the martins into the glasses. For food we started with the Grand Seafood Tower, which consisted of three levels of delicious chilled seafood and the crown jewel being the half lobster and a dozen oysters. Such a fun place to end the night after a long day at work! Holbrook House was full around 7 p.m. on a weeknight. The patio/building lobby area was full. We found a couple of seats in the island bar area which is huge compared to most bar areas. Our bartender was super busy when we first sat down but the night got slower about 30 minutes in. I came through the Holbrook House for happy hour with coworkers. Of course we had to order drinks from their carts! They have two switches by your table to call over either the martini cart or champagne cart. The champagne cart was a bit underwhelming that it was just a cooler on wheels to pour table side. The martini cart was great. There were so many options! You could make your dream martini. It was really great. The bartender also gives recommendations if you don't know what pairs well. I opted for a champagne flight when the server came around with the champagne cart. For food, we ordered the flight of fries, scallop crudo, mac n cheese, and fish and chips. Not usually a potato fan, but the fries were delicious! The scallop crudo was a small portion size but great, clean and fresh flavors. The mac n cheese was delicious and perfect for a cold windy night in SF. I got the fish and chips, and the fish was very fresh but mostly flavorless on its own without any breading or sauce. I walk past Holbrook House almost every day on my way to BART, and I've always been curious about it because the building itself is so beautiful from the outside. I finally stopped in for drinks and the interior is just as stunning as I imagined. The space has a very polished, upscale feel with a beautiful marble bar, warm lighting, and a really thoughtfully designed interior. It feels like a great spot for after-work drinks or a relaxed date night in the Financial District. I've also noticed they host events pretty often, which seems to add to the lively atmosphere. And look at the photo, presentation is insane. Hang that thing in the Louvre . My boyfriend and I stumbled upon this place last year during a trip to SF, and were so happy to find this again after recently moving to the area! First, we loved this place last year due to the ambiance and service. Our bartender last year was fun to talk to, helpful with recommendations, and a great mixologist. We were happy to find the same was true this most recent time as well! I asked the bartender to make me something tart with tequila and egg white, and he definitely came through, and he gave us a sample of a drink recipe he was trying out. Additionally, we ordered the oysters, meatballs and mac n cheese to share. We loved all of the food too! The meatballs were pretty decent in size, seasoned well but also complemented with a sweet tomato sauce, and tender. Instagram led me to reserve a lunch date here at one of their martini tables. Easy to make a reservation online. Seated right away though parking was challenging as it always is downtown. The location is beautiful and ambiance elegant. Flipping the switch for the martini table-side service was quite satisfying. Our bartender made the experience even more wonderful. The booths along the walls of the bar are where the buttons are. What the designer of the space didn't realize is that the cart is quite large and doesn't provide space for the people sitting at the bar or at the table any room to maneuver. When the bar is busy on a Thursday evening it can be a tight squeeze. But that won't stop me from enjoying myself though! I ordered some small plates like Fried brussels sprouts and deviled eggs and caviar which were really good. I can't comment on the drinks but I liked the food. I've been here a few times for events and decided to bring some out of town executive business guests. It was a disappointing experience. It took them a while to seat us even with reservations. The drinks took forever to arrive, it came after a few of our starters and reminding them a few times. This place is absolutely incredible and if it's reading rearview, we need to come here immediately. Ambiance is so chic and sexy! You can make reservations on OpenTable, but make sure that you get one of the booths that have the light switch for champagne or martinis. This was one of the most unique experiences I've ever had in my life and me, and my husband had such an enjoyable time out. You get your choice of switching on the champagne or the martini light switch. We chose the martini light switch and at that point a cart will come over and make you a martini of your desire. The service here was excellent, and I would come back strictly for that reason alone. The food was not to be out shown by the service however, everything on the menu looked delicious. I went here once, but never again. I went in for a mimosa with their "fresh squeezed orange juice." When I paid at the counter with a $20 bill the person at the front counter instructed me to take a seat. I assumed he would be bringing me my change with the drink. I mainly stopped by for drinks w my team and were impressed with the selection for both alcohol/nonalcoholic drinks and bites. We had a party of about 6 so wait time took a bit longer but staff was well attentive and accommodating. Cocktails were well balanced - I personally got the Summers Roar with Mezcal but truthfully you couldn't go wrong with any of the cocktails. It seems like they alternate drinks every so often, so always check the menu! They seem most known for their champagne and martini cart if thats more your vibe. They seem to be open all day considering they serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I only ate apps but they were all very tasty! Main standouts were the Mac and Cheese and the oysters. We sat at the bar and we chatted with a lot of the staff, everyone is super friendly and fun! They have done a really great job with the decor of the bar as well. I know the main appeal of this bar is getting a booth or table so you can use the Champagne/Martini lights, but I still feel that the bar seating is better. While I will be coming back to try this experience, once the bar started to fill up the booth service started to slow down. Which is understandable as they bring a bar cart to your table to make you cocktail. They also provide a little champagne as an appeasement for the wait! TL;DR - mediocre food with lackluster service (manager and waiter disappeared on us). Ruined a birthday dinner. Five of us had a reservation for 8:15 on a Friday night for a birthday dinner. We checked in ~ 5 min early but was told it would still be 20+ min for the type of table we selected for our reservation (inside the main area) rather than the patio. Manager said we could start with drinks/appetizers on the patio and then he would let us know when the table inside opened up. Never heard from him again. Got menus, ordered appetizers and drinks. Mentioned to our server that we were waiting for our table inside to open up. He said he would check. He never mentioned anything about it again. Drinks took about 15-20 min and appetizers took 30 (got deviled eggs, oysters, caesar salad, brussel sprouts and flight of french fries). Didn't get the flight of fries we ordered. Notified server and food runners. They both said they would check on it. Finished our appetizers and since at this point we had waited over 30 minutes we decided to say screw it and just stay at our table. We ordered mains and reminded our server that we still hadn't received our french fries appetizer. 30 minutes later, still no french fries. We received our mains (some of which included fries), and about 5 min later received our flight of french fries, which at this point we no longer even wanted. After the mains were dropped off, never saw our server again. Another server came out and checked on us maybe 30 minutes after our mains were dropped off. She handled the rest of the night. We had to ask for the french fries to be taken off of the check. For what presents itself as a high end, high service restaurant, this may have been some of the worst service I've ever received. The food is not good enough to make up for the crap service. I've been to high end restaurants and they know how to take care of customers. Will never go back to this place and will actively steer people away from it. As someone who has been a server, bartender and manager in the industry, I'm appalled at the lack of service we received here. I still tipped albeit not my normal 20+% but avoid this place if you expect decent service (or sit at the bar). Also, in case you're thinking it was just us - the table next to us also asked for several things to be taken off of their check because service was soooo slow! This place is beautiful inside! I don't know what this used to be, but I think it was a bank. We had reservations for a Wednesday night and I was surprised by how busy this place was. It was literally shoulder to shoulder. We are so glad we made reservations. I love how you can order your drinks from a switch of a button and the staff would stroll on by with the cart and ask what you would love to drink. We ended up getting the Martini espresso, collet(champagne), and the French 75 (cognac). All the drinks were good! This is service was one of the highlights of the place. When it came to the food all the dishes had small portions and the food was just so so. The best was the flight for fries as it came with different sauces for dipping. The caviar bumps was not really worth it for that price, just save your money. The baked oysters and devil eggs were mediocre. I've had way better elsewhere. The most disappointing dish was the ribeye. This dish was so small for $50.00. I rather go to original Joe's for that price for double or triple the size. Cool restaurant at the heart of financial district. Their open "patio" theme is wonderful for business lunches. The food was good and fresh, I can't give a single bad comment about it. The Dungeness crab pasta was perfectly balanced with a lot of umami in it. Their devil eggs were supposed to be one of their signature dishes but they were just ok.
