I'm trying to become a more positive person, so instead of being harsh I'll put a positive spin on my thoughts. If you're not in a rush for your food, you'll be delighted to know that neither is the kitchen. If you like ordering medium rare, but in the back of your mind you hope they bring you well done, this is the place for you. If you prefer to get your drinks 20 minutes after you order them, so it feels like a fun surprise, then you should add this spot to your list. If you like food that's over-salted yet somehow under seasoned, you will salivate over their fries and appetizers. Seriously, this place survives for ten years and good restaurants close down every year! Is this what the east side deserves? Did we build our houses on a sacred burial ground? This feels cruel. Sweet deals brought us back, the service will keep us! CC was our server, and she was the best server we have had in a long time! We decided to share the surf n turf. The steak we got was a ribeye, it was cooked perfectly & tasted great. The lobster tail unfortunately was not so great. FYI, it is NOT a maine lobster tail. So its not as sweet. Personally I did not care for it. Otherwise, everything was great. We also found out that they are undee new ownership & now they cook all of their food in house under an open flame! :) Thet made other changes as well, such as they got rid of the salad bar. My Husband and I used to come here all the time when they opened 10 years ago. After the VID happened in 2020 it kinda went downhill and a lot of items were removed from the menu. We had date night last night and decided to give them another try. I am SO GLAD we did. The East Side lacks great eateries and The Horseshoe Grill is now back up in our top 3. Apparently there are new owners, so that might have to do with the excellent experience we had with our dinner last night. Not to mention our absolutely amazing waitress, Jaycie. She was so attentive, hilarious, and really made our experience top notch. We got the bbq sampler platter which was amazing. The drinks (Moscow mule and Long Island) were excellent and the zucchini sticks were the best we have ever had. It was a bit slow but we got there pretty late at around 8:30. Right now, this place is only open a few days each week, as we'd tried to go during the week earlier. Hoping they'll increase the number of days they're open, as they seem to do a good business. We had a very good meal there. We chose the one-trip to the salad bar as our sides. The salad bar was clean with fresh ingredients. The platters we ordered came to the table quickly, were very flavorful (brisket and pulled pork), and tender. They came with Texas toast as well. We got some complimentary hot rolls ahead of the meal, but they seemed to just be regular rolls you could buy at a grocery store. Our server was attentive and friendly. I usually have a three strikes your out rule. But this place only got two strikes and I won't be back. Service was good, ambiance was fine. But bottom line, they do NOT know how to smoke a brisket. Dry, chewy and flavorless it was. Two beers and a water, were not enough to wash it down, and now, I need physical therapy on my jaw. There's a lot of barbecue places around. So if you're going to do brisket, you better nail it, and get it right. They just got it all wrong. We went in at 12:30, what should have been their lunch rush. But we were the only patrons. So many restaurants closing recently in Tucson. Glad to see Horseshoe Grill still is the go-to reference for a local steakhouse. It had been a while since we were last at HSG and decided to head in on a Friday night. It was still the great steaks and friendly service we remembered. It's obvious they are trying to keep their prices affordable and the cost of meat has skyrocketed everywhere, but HSG's steak prices are more reasonable than other restaurants in Tucson and the quality is excellent, so for that alone they earn my repeat business. Same goes for cocktails as well. One thing that has always struck me about dining at HSG is the incredible service and super friendly staff. Oh, and they brought back their killer salad bar, too! That mainstay became a Covid casualty. I'm so glad it finally has been restored. Great unassuming venue for a date-night. read more

Disappointed, the food came out just warm, not hot. Still great tasting. My biggest disappointment was in the service. So slllooooowwww. It's why I didn't try them again until now. When the new owners first took over we tried it and had the same experience so we gave it a few months to work out their kinks. Unfortunately, it's still the same. We ordered the sampler platter for two including salad bar and loaded baked potato. The salad bar was very good. 4 The baked potato and all of the meat were all room temperature. Unacceptable, but we had a concert to get too, so we ate what we could. The baked potato would have been fine if it was hot. It was cold. 2 The ribs were dry and way over cooked. Seemed old. I would give them a 1. Virtually inedible. The brisket was much too fatty. Very little meat. Like 80-20 fat to meat. 2 The pulled pork was the best of the 4 meats. Moist and fresh flavor. 4-5 The smoked sausage was not good. Greasy and not much flavor. 2 We likely will not return. read more

I have to begin this review by beseeching management to place YES! We're open! Signs all over the frontage. We nearly missed out on THE best wings in Tucson because the suites on either side of this little gem are being renovated. If some guy hadn't been standing outside we'd have driven on. Had a wonderful time at THG yesterday, with great service from Vinnie (sorry if it's spelled Vinny!) and EXCELLENT food! First of all, Vinnie was awesome as a server, he checked on us frequently, refilled drinks quickly, was very helpful in navigating the menu, had a really fun personality, and he made an awesome smoked Manhattan (at his good suggestion, I might add). The food was just terrific, too! I was a little concerned that the pork belly burnt ends would be fatty but that was NOT the case at all, nor were they too sweet either, they were delicious, just right! I liked the little cubes, nice size. Very tasty. The chicken wings were also fantastic! Crispy, tender, and delicious. Still thinking about them. And they accommodated sauce on the side (they offer a lot of sauces for the wings, too). I had the T-Bone steak, and it was also delicious. I hemmed and hawed, should I get barbecue or steak, and I guess I'll just have to return to try brisket or the other meats, but I had NO issue with the T-Bone. Yes, when it first came out, it was underdone (we ordered medium well and it was more like medium rare), but Vinnie made it right very quickly. Just came out of this place feeling screwed blue and tattood. So not worth the money.... We went for the Surf & Turf.... $130 for two people...and doesn not include a salad.. $39.99 T-bone, plus $15 for the small lobster tail that was probably purchased from Fry's for $5.... Both steaks needed a saw to cut through them... I've never had a chewy Lobster tail....first time for everything! We often go to various reputable steak houses.... This is not one! Was able to snag dinner reservations for Valentine's Day... but wishing I had tried this place out on a different day. The prix fixe menu was well presented/ but lacked depth of flavor and somewhat overpriced. The wagyu ribeye filet was drier and didn't have the tenderness I associate with wagyu. The lava cake was dry but the house made peach cobbler was good. It is a bar and grill vibe with lots of seating. Curious on their bbq.. and will check it out sometime... but I would avoid a special event/ prix fixe meal there for sure. read more

Had high hopes for a great bbq... loads of good smokey smells, I was really hoping it translated into the food, but not so much. I had a side of ribs, brisket and sausage, the sausage by far was the best of the three. Prices were on the high side for the quantity and price. This review is specifically for their Valentine's set menu- while we regularly enjoy their normal menu, this holiday warranted it's own accounting. Holidays- especially Valentine's- are typically horrible days to dine out. But the special menu Horseshoe listed in this email was so enticing we made a reservation anyway. We did eat early (5pm) and so we missed much of the craziness holiday dining typically entails. We were seated immediately, and our server was very attentive. I am gluten free, and she made sure to alert me and the lot when I'm every item where there was a potential issue. I started with the oysters Rockefeller, which they were making gluten free. They were completely delicious, as was my dining companion's shrimp cocktail. We moved on to salad for me and lobster bisque for him, both tasty but the least remarkable of the courses. The next course was steak. I had the six ounce sirloin that was served an absolutely perfect rare plus, and he had the ribeye- both topped with crab. We each ate about half, knowing dessert was coming. I had the chocolate lava cake while he enjoyed the peach cobbler. Both had a generous portion of vanilla ice cream. We did our best but neither dessert was finished- the meal was just too rich and generously portioned! As an aside, I had the wine pairings, which only added $19.50 to the cost. This included three glasses of wine and a dessert cocktail. I opted for only two glasses (a crisp Sauvignon Blanc and a tasty Cabernet) and then was given the option for a hazelnut martini for dessert (only a fool would turn that down). Service was attentive but not distracting throughout- truly it was a meal I'd expect from a fine dining venue, not the local steakhouse. read more

Always a good meal and drinks here. This place is a hidden gem on the east side in a unsuspecting shopping center. The menu has plenty to choose from my favorite is the A'La carte and sides. The 1/4lb brisket Mesquite grilled shrimp and sweet potato fries. The quarter chicken with THG seasoning was ok a little too long in the warmer I think. The service timing with drinks appetizers and main dishes was timed well and the waitress checked back timely. The projector screen TV is just the right size for the room and there is no sound so the dining area is not loud. The place is mostly spot on when we have been there. I was very put off by hostess on 5/15/25 at around 5pm. A family of 4 was waiting before us. Then another party of 2 came in after us. Then more people came in. The hostess did not acknowledge anyone. I dont know what she was doing, maybe processing gift cards. It doesn't take a second to greet and welcome your guests. She didn't even say i'll be right with you.She didn't look at anyone, smiled or say hello. Once the waiting area was FULL she then asks "who's next?". Seriously? If she looked and acknowledge each guest she would know who was next. If you're the hostess, you are the first person your customers see. The minimum is to say hello. Our T-bone Steaks were perfectly cooked, delicious!! My friend enjoyed mashed potato with gravy and l had the salad bar. My friend had coffee and dessert, she said the peach cobbler was very good. I've got nothing but praise for The Horseshoe Grill. The exterior isn't going to reach out and grab you, but once you get inside, your faith will be rewarded. I had the grilled shrimp, and they were perfectly done and flavorful. I chose the steak fries, made in-house, and they were so good that I ate every single one of them. They also make their own pickled onions, and I only wish that I could make them that good. One successful meal can be a fluke, so we returned later in the week and had the same experience. Jade V. took great care of us. She is polite, personable, and professional. My wife had the bacon blue burger, and we finished off with the peach cobbler and ice cream.
