If you are ever staying in Portland, Oregon, please stay at this hotel. My husband Jeramie and I highly recommend it, and this is what they did for us, in addition to upgrading our room for free, and helping us out every minute they see us. It just opened last month and is so quaint, cute, and the staff is really, truly amazing. They found out that we were here to start making a baby and wanted to do everything to make sure our journey started off amazingly. There was a book, a coaster, and a lovely note waiting for us on our desk in our room when we came to the room one day‍‍ The note offered words of encouragement for our journey and their heartfelt happiness for us!! A HUGE shout out to some of the staff by name because they were genuine from the first seconds of meeting them all the way through our stay: Perrin, Ellie, Delfina, short blonde hair girl with necklace on (bad with names) and all of their staff. Thank you again from the bottom of our hearts for your hospitality, kindness and holiday greetings! The hotel and the people are amazing and we will only stay here from now on. I stayed in the snug room at the Hoxton and for the date range it was around $95 per night. For that price it was awesome!! I looked at some prices recently though, and saw it was up to $150, for that price, absolutely not!! The snug room is indeed, pretty snug. There's a mini fridge in the room, a tv, and a cute little radio. You have about 1ft on either side of the bed and then the bathroom is directly in front of you. Beware the walls are pretty thin and the hallway floors were squeaky. I definitely heard people all hours of the night walking the floors and entering their rooms. Totally agree with the other review that the water from the shower gets all over. Half a shower wall might look cool but totally not functional. Also the only garbage can in the room is in the bathroom. Idk about you but feels weird throwing food items into the bathroom garbage, or having to leave it on the nightstand next to the bed. The hotel itself is quite trendy. They have sufficiently popular music playing in the lobby and it's fairly chic downstairs with comfy chairs for sitting, and even a long table with a bunch of outlets for getting work done. The coffee bar was pretty solid as well. Didn't have a chance to grab anything at the restaurant, and supposedly there's a speakeasy type bar going in downstairs. Additionally behind the front desk there's beer, wine, kombucha, snacks for purchase at market rate (aka it's not $10 for a beer). The free breakfast bags for the room in the morning are nice too! Takeaway: the hotel was super cool and overall I really liked it. The staff were all awesome. It's a matter of price, if a snug room is around 100 I'd probably stay there again. read more

A nice little boutique hotel just a few short blocks to great food, The Pearl District, and the heart of downtown. Maybe not the most convenient place if you're traveling by car, but on both our stays we flew in, took the 38 minute ride on the light rail to the Chinatown stop and rolled our bags 3 blocks to the hotel where we were greeted by the young, friendly and accommodating staff. The fare for my wife and me--$2.50. The area is in transition with a lot of really interesting, innovative businesses, restaurants and clubs. But as with any area in the midst of revitalization there are still the few, lingering homeless. The hotel itself is a beautiful example of casual urban decor. The lobby, which sits literally at the main Chinatown gate, was one of my favorite places to enjoy a morning coffee and catch up with the day's news on each of the 5 mornings we stayed in Portland. On both our stays we booked the largest of their rooms which were great with beautiful morning light. (We saw a couple of the smallest rooms and they were "NY City" small--tiny. The restaurants were both surprisingly good and reasonably priced, and their "secret" little speakeasy around the corner makes for a nice adventure. The complimentary breakfast bags were a thoughtful and delicious touch each morning. Since our earlier visit in June, the hotel has adopted a policy of not making up the rooms every day of an extended stay unless requested. So one day we returned from a day in the city to find an unkempt room of unmade beds and un-refreshed towels. To its credit, staff promptly resolved our complaint. All in all, a great hotel in a fun and up and coming area. We'll return. read more

Friendly staff, well designed/decorated, and fun rooftop bar. My boyfriend and I came to Portland for our anniversary and the Hoxton surprised us with a sweet note and bottle of champagne. We went to grab a drink upstairs and the waitress was very sweet and gave great recommendations. I recommend the Orinoco Flow drink, it was a great balance between sweet and lavender. read more

I just booked a room online. We are from Portland but don't have ac in our house during this heat wave. We thought it would be fun to stay downtown. Upon checking in, the hotel the director of rooms was so incredibly rude and off putting that we decided not to stay. I own a small business and work in customer service. This hotel is in a rough part of town and we are also trying to support local businesses. The way I was treated I would never return to this hotel. I am still shocked by the whole experience. First time visiting Portland and had seen great reviews for this hotel so decided to book my solo trip stay here. From the moment I checked in to the moment I checked out, staff went above and beyond and were always extremely friendly and welcoming. Everytime you walk back into the hotel staff is always starting up conversations that make you feel like youve always been here. Stayed in a "cosy room" and it was just that- cosy. They have a mini fridge where you can store snacks at no cost (which is amazing!!). Hotel is extremely clean and quaint, no complaints here! Fees 1st: My 1st traveling to the Chinatown/ Pearl District area. Hoxton does not have free parking or a garage. There is a parking lot nearby with a $34 overnight fee or $17 all. The area sseemed a bit sketchy with a lot of transients being idle, but I encountered no problems. Oregon has a hospitality fee of $35 for hotels so in addition to the cost of your room you have this $35 fee mandatory to pay. And then ofcourse $50 deposit. Lots of shops & eateries nearby within walking distance. For the hotel itself: LOVED IT! The decor is retro simple. Customer service over the phone & in person were OUTSTANDING ! There are 2 restaurants within the Hoxton. A taco joint upstairs & an American food downstairs, with my favorite coffee shop. A nice detail is that the Hoxton leaves a bag of light breakfast (granola bar, juice, fruit) on your door. Being an antique building, hearing noises is inevitable. Water running, footsteps down the hall are heard clearly. My room faced the street and sirens & people talking were heard throughout the night. -1 Star for all that water that splashed out of the shower. We absolutely loved our stay at this hotel. The vibe, decor, food/coffee and customer service were all on point. We needed a night away because of some trauma my husband and I are walking through, and this was the PERFECT place to come. We decided to stay TWO nights cause we loved it so much. We stayed in a snug room the first night, and the cozy room the second night. Both were wonderful but the cozy definitely has more space, and had a small couch/sitting area. This hotel is modeled after The Hoxton in England! There are no washcloths in the rooms because apparently, that is an American thing! You get a delicious breakfast served in your room every morning consisting fo yogurt, granola, an orange juice, and a plum! There is a coffee maker in the room and you get real milk left in little cartons inside your refrigerator. The rooftop bar was a great place to hang out on a sunny warm afternoon! The margaritas are way strong, so don't drink too many of them! We ordered the ceviche each time! It was soooo good! There is also a restaurant downstairs which has a somewhat small kind of fancy menu, but the food is alright. You can walk to the metro to pick it up to go directly to the airport which is about a 50 minute ride away on the same track. So you don't have to change trains! The bathroom had black tiles, which I don't know how they keep the water markings off of the tiles, it's pretty hip! The mirror in our room made us look 10 lbs. thinner, and we took pictures of that because, how cool is that! A mirror that makes you feel good! read more

I spent a week here and found the style contemporary but the space a little snug for my taste. If you don't need a lot of space and willing to walk a bit, this is a great place. That being said it is in a less desirable area of the downtown section of Portland I would recommend not walking around at night because a large number of transients. read more

The hotel is amazing! It is the most comfortable hotel I have ever stayed at which is why i give it 5 stars. However, it is hard to find safe parking nearby, I parked in the closest gated garage and my catalytic convertor was stolen. The safest part of town to park is down washington and broadway towards the other hotels. It is unfortunate that the Hoxton is located in china town and it is having issues with homeless but the hotel is a 10/10. :/ read more

The Hoxton at Portland was such an amazing hotel, I loved my stay there. There were security attendants on the outside which made me feel very safe, and they were very friendly and held the door open every time someone walked in/out. The staff was extremely friendly and offered some travel tips for us. The room was small but perfect for two people, and it was so clean and stylish! It has updated amenities and just felt very modern and hip. They provide a bag with breakfast options that you leave outside your door, and it gets delivered to you at the time you requested. The long has a cafe and a restaurant which looked really nice, but we weren't able to check out. There's a rooftop bar which had lots of heaters (I was there in November so they were a nice touch), and has great views and drinks. There's also a secret bar which I really wanted to check out, but didn't know it was closed on Sundays. (Side note, lots of places/bars in Portland are closed Sundays - I was very surprised). There is a parking lot across the street which was $24/overnight and a few other lots nearby as well. The hotel is centrally located next to bus stops and within walking distance to pretty much all old town/downtown areas. Overall I loved my stay there and will definitely stay again if I'm in Portland! read more

Minimalist but functional rooms. No dresser, which was a minor inconvenience. However, be aware of the location of the room you are given. I was given a street-facing room on the 2nd floor. My first night I was woken up by a garbage collection truck at 4 AM. I didn't think much of it as I thought it might be a weekly collection. The next night I was woken up by the same noise, only at 3 AM instead. Tonight's my final night and I'm up again at 3 AM thanks to the noise right outside my window. Decent hotel, fairly central location, but be prepared to be woken up in the middle of the night if you're in a street-facing room. read more

Stayed during a heatwave weekend. Enjoyed the cozy room and the air conditioning. The decor from the room to the elevator to the lobby was fresh and interesting. Felt well taken care of by staff - including bag and bike storage. Witnessed interaction in review by Tamara (6/26). Manager Ellie politely explained to an increasingly indignant customer that it was the hotel groups' policy to not allow check in without matching ID and CC in order to avoid fraud. She stayed calm and professional in her repeating of the policy and acknowledging the disappointment that it might be causing despite the customer's escalation. From an outsider, what the customer deemed rude, was her not having the rules broken for her. read more

This hotel and very hip, as soon as you enter you feel more like you're in a swanky lounge then the usual run of the mills place. Everything is mid century and I instantly fell in love. Theirs a bar and coffee shop in the "lobby" and a roof top taco bar that's tiki themed. The room we got was very small/tight but they were honest about it from the beginning so their was no surprises and didn't plan to spend much time in there anyway (it also reflected in the great price). Everything was super clean and bed was super cozy with lots of fluffy pillows and we slept incredibly well. The door man on Saturday was awesome, he told us where to find safe parking and had no problem getting on my phone to help my lyft drive navigate to find us. The rest of the staff was also very friendly and personable. As far as the location, it's smack dab downtown and by most of the things we wanted to check out. Few blocks away from Voodoo donuts, Sizzle Pie, 2nd Street Records as well as Dantes which is an amazing cabaret strip club. Theirs also a bar arcade the block behind it. Once we parked we really didn't need to drive anywhere. Over all we had an amazing stay in Portland and the Huxton was a huge part of it. We will absolutely stay here whenever we are in town. We stayed for three nights in one of the snug sized rooms, and it was indeed quite snug. The door misses the edge of the bed by millimeters. The bathroom door also clears the sink by mere millimeters as well. The hotel seems to have taken some of the complaints listed in past reviews to heart. There were three hooks for us to hang our coats on and a small shelf under the towel racks for us to put down toiletries. The half shower door still doesn't contain the water from the high power shower head particularly well though. The snug size is probably best suited for two people traveling light. There are no closets or drawers in this room. The only place for you to store your stuff is in these two slots under the bed. The slots themselves can really only comfortably accommodate carry on size luggage. There's not a whole lot of floor space. There was an approximately 1.5 ft perimeter around the bed for you to get around the room with. If you need to get work done, there's plenty of table space and outlets for laptops down in the lobby. The room comes with a few nice amenities. There's the free breakfast bag that was delivered to our room each morning with granola, yogurt, fruit, and juice. The room also comes with a hidden mini fridge stocked with free water and milk. We also had an electric kettle along with an assortment of free teas and coffee. If you're craving a late night beer or snack, the front desk carries a few items at grocery store price. In terms of location, the hotel is conveniently located close to public transit. It's walking distance to a lot of the the tourist hot spots like the Pearl District, Voodoo, Stumptown, Saturday Market, and Powell's. There's a lot of cool restaurants around the area as well. There are a few homeless people around the neighborhood, but we never felt unsafe. It's still much cleaner than downtown San Francisco. The customer service was great. My plane came in much earlier than the check in time, and the staff was willing to check me in early. The staff helped me navigate using trimet's app, and were generally all very friendly people. In short, this is a centrally located, pretty affordable, and trendy hotel. We enjoyed our stay here. The room began feeling too tight towards the end and we were relivieved to go back home in our more spacious house. I would recommend a stay here. A snug room would probably be best for minimalist travelers on a short trip who plan on being out most of the day. The room provided more than all of the necessary basics though despite it's small size. read more

Really Hip place right at the entrance to China town. We had a lovely stay here the service staff were top notch very knowledgeable and friendly. 1.00 beer at the front desk 2.00 Mexican coke as well. Would give this a higher ranking but the the rooms are SMALL. Like jail cell small. It's weird no one mentions this in the other reviews but it's such a small space that if you were two people in one room and you stood on opposite sides of the room you could touch hands by reaching across. Literally a bed (queen) and two night stands and that is your entire room. Thankfully this was a trip without our little one because the room we stayed in would not have worked at all with a toddler. Once you get passed the anxiety of being in a room that's the size of a cell the Hoxton is a pretty cool place. Highly recommend the Tope bar on the 9th floor for a nightcap they close at 11 and have amazing tacos. read more

This is a lovely, well priced hotel in China Town just a few blocks from the Pearl District. There is no valet parking, but there is a large parking lot just down the street on the corner of 4th and Couch. The rooms are aesthetically pleasing, and clean. Our bed was fluffy and comfortable. The breakfast bags left at our door were a nice touch. The hubs and I both agree that we would stay here again. In regards to the large homeless population: The Hoxton was a homeless shelter for many years prior to being converted into this little gem. If you're not comfortable sharing the sidewalks with a diverse population, this probably isn't the hotel for you. read more

My only regret is that I didn't stay at The Hoxton sooner. I'll preface this with the fact that I travel quite a bit and have worked in the hotel industry for years. Service: excellent and friendly. Sometimes these boutique hotels have an ultra cool staff apparently too good to be friendly (ahem, Society Hotel). My breakfast bag wasn't ready so I called and it was immediately brought up. Decor: From the lobby to the cafe to the rooftop restaurant to the room is gorgeous! The room especially have details that you don't often find in hotels anymore - the gorgeous light fixture, the antique phone, little cute messages on the cups... Room: The bed is comfy, ample closet space, there's a HUGE full length mirror (!!), great hair dryer (not the cheap kinds in most hotel that frizz out your hair), a proper tea kettle (!!) with Smith teas, big flatscreen and huge bathroom with the most divine rain shower head. The rooftop: fantastic view of Portland and adorable instagram-able decor. The food (tacos) I have to admit had low expectations but it blew my mind away! They were soooo good! I didn't have a chance to eat at Rita's, the cafe or the bar but I'm looking forward to going back. read more

Definitely the cutest hotel I have ever stayed in. It is in a weird part of town with a lot of homelessness but soon as you step inside the hotel you are transported to luxury. The lobby and the rooms are very cute, awesome interior design. They have a cute little coffee shop in the lobby w/ great coffee. The staff at the hotel are so friendly and help make your stay great. You can buy beer and water at the lobby for decent prices. We stayed in the snug room. It was definitely smaller than most hotel rooms I have stayed in but was still a great room. The bed was so comfy, I could lay in the bed gazing out the window for hours. The shower was great. The room had a cool retro looking radio playing a local Portland station that we listened to our entire stay. The whole vibe of the hotel was super inviting. You can tell they put a lot into ever last detail. They had a great rooftop bar upstairs w/ good drinks. I didn't try the food but hope to come back again someday. read more

Was here for their opening week and man what a exquisite new place! The shining part of this hotel is its rooftop bar. Covered in plants and fantastic view of Burnside, this is going to be my #1 spot in the summer. They actually teamed up with Ground Kontrol to host a Street Fighter tournament and had catered tacos from their menu brought out the entire night and they were a KO of delicious. a lot of potential, with their authentic Mexican menu and awareness of local talent, this place is always hosting some kind of live music or event. read more

We started staying here the week they opened, having previously loved their London hotel. The public space vibe is the same. It's young, international, and very interesting people-watching. The lobby bar is GREAT and I hang out there whenever my room seems too lonely; there is quite a scene. I also appreciate the late night snacks available at the bar after coming back from a show. Staff are helpful and cheerful. Rooms are so current and the bathrooms -- LOVE them. I priced the sinks -- and this place has not skimped on quality. The current books scattered around the bedside area, the cute radio, the generous mini-breakfast delivered to your door, the fridge and microwave, the kettle for making your own hot beverage....the list goes on and on. There is nothing in the room you don't need. Yes the location is not great for walking around, but maybe it will improve with this hotel anchoring a main corner. I've parked my car both on the street and in the lot nearby and never had any trouble. Uber and Lyft are always swarming around so no need to use your car once it's parked. The price is more than reasonable given that everything is new, clean, friendly, and top quality. They are honest about their room sizing versus price and they don't allow the booking sites to undercut their direct pricing. This is quite a refreshing trend which I wish other hotels would copy. Best place I have ever stayed in. Since the moment we got there, the service was more than excellent at all times. We had a one day trip to Portland and we went to the best place we could've gone to spend the night at. My friend and I are two young girls who went by ourselves to Portland and like any other girl, we were a little nervous about going out at night; we asked the receptionist if she knew any safe places or anything we could do at night and she recommended to go around town and that we'd be safe, she also gave us a phone number and let us know that if we were to need anything while exploring around, to call and they would help us. The rooftop is so pretty and the view is gorgeous from there. We also ordered food qt literally 1am and they brought it to our room. The whole aesthetic from this hotel is 100% on point. This place is a literal 10/10 and if I could give it more stars, I would. I recommend this to everyone who wants to visit downtown Portland, it's not even expensive for the great service that they give. After waiting until 6pm for my room to be ready, I discovered my room to be extremely tiny, directly above the dj (pumped beats until 1am), and the bathroom window broken. With no other room availability, I was forced to stay in this icebox (during unprecedented low temps and ice storm), and woke with a cough. I then kindly requested a different room the next morning, and have now been waiting more than 3 hours with no estimate of when another tiny room above the dj will be available. The staff then complained: "we're kind of busy now." I'm currently sitting in the lobby with my luggage waiting, waiting, waiting - no upgrade offer, no nothing. read more
