This place is amazing. We have been back twice and both experienced have been wonderful. Food is absolutely delicious, and you have to order dessert so you can meet the host as he's the pastry chef that makes memorable sweets. Was recently traveling with friends in the area and trying to decide where to have a meal. Hudson House came up in conversation as 2 of us dined there decades ago. After a google search, saw they were still in business so decided to head there. A great location to view the Hudson River while dining. Thankfully, didn't need a reservation but did wait 15 minutes for a table to become available. Once seated, we were warmly greeted by Judy, our server. She was very attentive to our needs though not in an overbearing way. First was served the Hudson House traditional popovers with strawberry butter. Ours were excellent. My friends wanted to order a soup but split the serving. Judy was so accommodating by serving my friends their own servings without a plate sharing fee. Nice to know there's still a restaurant that doesn't look to monetize every option they can. Onto the mains. One of my friends had to send theirs back due to under cooking the protein. Another server took it right back to the kitchen and within 5 minutes it was returned cooked correctly. That's the only reason for the 4 stars otherwise the mains were excellent. Overall, this restaurant would be an excellent choice for anyone traveling to the area. The service was 5 star. read more

I came here for my birthday we were a party of 6 adults 2 boys and 1 toddler. The staff was very welcoming especially the gentleman with a ponytail. They went above and beyond for us. Everything we ordered was very good. I ordered the tuna poke tartare very yummy. The chopped salad was very fresh, the shishito peppers were amazing. My brother loved the octopus so much he claimed it was the best he ever ordered. We ordered for dinner mostly steaks which were cooked to perfection and the taste was spot on. My sister had the duck which she liked. Our waitress was extremely attentive and friendly. The desserts were sooo good we order the banana pudding, toffee cake with ice cream, and a chocolate one. Late night dinner last night after long day in boat and wow what an awesome way to end the day!! Greeted at door by owner Matt Hudson and accommodated quickly and sitting down outdoor table within minutes!! Andrew our server quickly informed to order before kitchen closed at 11. COVID friendly QR code on table. Ordered ahi tuna which was amazing stacked with bamboo rice at bottom topped with avocado and ahi tuna on top!! So fresh tasting a must appetizer will be back just for that alone! Grilled octopus full of flavor with potato and not sure of garnish sauce underneath but so good!! And shrimp pasta was good size tiger shrimp with pasta and a touch of breaded crumbs with sautéed spinach !! Must order too! Finished off with banana pie and double shot of espresso for drive home served Italian way with lemon rind!! A random search of top restaurants brought us to the Hudson House. We made a reservation at 11 am for a 6pm dinner. Walking in we were greeted by the owner, Matt Hudson. He was kind, warm, and as I asked about the wine cellar that used to be a jail cell, he showed us. As we sat the kind very professionall waiter, Israel came over and described the drinks that we were interested in. We started with the bone marrow which was beefy and delicious. I ended up saving some to have with my hanger steak (black and blue, incredible). My wife had gnudi and scallops and loved both. Desserts were insanely good. The crack pie, the banana pudding pie, the sticky toffee pudding- exceeded our high expectations. We will def be back! Maybe tomorrow.... read more

That's not for laziness; rather, I don't feel compelled to sing the praises of people or places unless I've had a truly exceptional experience. Tonight is the second time I've found myself in Nyack for work. I looked up the Hudson House back in October 2018 and swung by solo. The meal and service was so remarkable that I made a point to come by again tonight. As I was seated I was greeted by Jose (the server from 7 months prior) who said, "Nice to see you again." If that weren't shocking enough Jose remembered my order and suggested specials based on what I enjoyed the last time through. This place is a gem. The food is extraordinary and I struggle to find the superlatives to describe the service. The next time you're in Nyack, do yourself a huge favor and swing by. (Ask for Jose). read more

It was truly matched by the exceptional food - we had the octopus appetizer (I think the best I've ever had), the duck and the short ribs. Just exquisite food that satisfied the soul. Hands down my favorite in Nyack. The food had good portions, and genuinely made to perfection. Desert options were curated for the perfect experience. We actually went to this place like three weekends in a row and probably one weekend it was literally dinner one night and then lunch the next day. Ambiance is nice. For dinner it was packed. Lunch it was slightly packed but not too crowded. Night time we didn't notice anything but during the lunch service we were seated at this one time and there were like tiny flies flying around but it was so odd cause it literally was just that table. They let us move tables since it was crowded and there were no flies anymore. It was the oddest thing. They have TVs so that you can watch sports but it's not so loud that you can't hold a conversation if you're not watching which I loved! Food... appetizers.. the Brussels sprouts were delicious. One of the reasons we love it there. We got the shrimp and it was great. Actual meal was pretty decent. I think the first time we went we didn't realize how much apps we ordered that we didn't have a lot of space for the actual meal. Drinks... they have decent selection for a restaurant. We literally sat around with drinks just taking and having appetizers one night Service.... You would think they would remember us considering we literally came back for three weeks straight. Nope. Guess they have a lot of customers. One night, there were no tables so we walked to the beer garden and drank some beers and noticed people got food from the restaurant and ate there. We went back and managed to get a table. They kept saying you need to order food and can't just order drinks. I mean I guess we started with drinks before even looking at the food menu so that's why but anyways we had no problem ordering food cause it was yummy. The wait staff is super sweet and very helpful if you can't choose between two different options. Minus the oddest flies that one time it was a great place to just have a small night out for dinner and a couple drinks. Or hold parties. We saw a tea party being held their for kids..: which is great cause the kids can do that while moms have a glass of wine. We also saw a large party celebrating like a milestone birthday. A wonderful evening Restauranteur Matt Hudson was the perfect gentleman and host, greeting us when we arrived and chatting with us as we left. The Hudson House is a smallish classy place in the heart of downtown Nyack. Being small it was a bit crowded and when it filled up a bit noisy. I had looked over the menu beforehand and looked up a few ingredients as well, so I knew what I wanted last night. What I found was their dishes were well-described and intriguing. I'm no foodie so this was going to be an experience for me. They also offered several specials. Our occasion was birthday celebrations and we were a group of 6, including a 4 year old. She was very welcomed and they did have a kid's menu item. Their white tablecloths were topped with white paper, which was perfect last night. Crayons were provided and she could draw to her hearts content. As for the food, I started with the Warm Mushroom Salad and for my entrée, their Brook Trout. Both were interesting and very good. The salad included some small mushrooms including a couple of meaty slices as the base. This was not a leafy type of salad with your favorite dressing. I wasn't sure what to expect with the trout and was a little relieved it was a filet and not a whole fish. It was a buttery dish with mild radishes and a tasty Swiss chard. They also offered several desserts with some on the menu non-traditional, and offered more specials. I was interested in their spicy apple cake, but we took a pass this time. While the pace of our meal was excellent, we didn't want to test the limits of our smallest diner's good disposition. The evening was wonderful. read more

I loved the cabernet braised short ribs with farro risotto, roasted mushrooms and asparagus with crispy garlic my husband ordered the house made gnocchi (outstanding !) My boyfriend and I were very excited to come here to celebrate our anniversary after reading their amazing reviews. It was a Saturday night so the place was pretty packed and it was EXTREMELY noisy, but it's expected for a busy restaurant. The food was VERY delicious and well made. As a small plate, we got the brussel sprouts and it was PERFECT. The brussel sprouts were nicely roasted and came with bacon and pomegranate seeds, which I thought was a great touch. My boyfriend got the pork chop and I got Hudson house steak, and we absolutely LOVED our food. The pork chop was cooked and seasoned so well, it was soft and delicious. The clams that they came with did not make the food too salty and actually mixed well with the other vegetables that were in the dish. The Hudson house steak was also very delicious, especially the sauce on the steak. The fries and the salad with the goat cheese mixed very well with the steak. For dessert, we got the upside down pear cake and the toffee cake. Both were made extremely well it kept us wanting more!! Although the food was excellent, I have to give this place a 3 star because of service. In the beginning, our waitress was nice but after we ordered our entrees she would constantly ignore us and only came to check on us once. After we finished eating, we kept trying to get her attention for the dessert menu and we finally got her 15 minutes late. Initially we understood because it was busy. But then it took us a while to get her attention again to order dessert, and when she finally came, I asked her one question about one of the desserts and she started acting annoyed and giving me attitude so I just said forget it and ordered the dessert. When we finished our dessert, it took us forever again to just ask for the check. And when we finally got to ask her for it, the table next to us asked her for some lemons. She immediately brought their lemons and continued on to the other tables and NEVER brought our check. What really upset me was that she was very rude when we spoke to her but she was VERY nice and patient with the other tables, even when they asked her numerous questions. We never bothered her while we were dining so I really have no idea why she was treating us like this. Maybe it's because we were the youngest ones there? The best place in Rockland County for a phenomenal meal and perfect service. This place is a Nyack institution of greatness.

With today being a holiday we were lucky to get into this place and Richie the manager being nice enough to sneak us in quick we enjoyed a great dinner in such a well ran chic trendy restaurant. Wait staff top notch too. Started with there grilled baby octopus with chick peas oh my so tender and so vibrant grilled to perfection. Also ordered the app special which was grilled gnocchi with smoked Gouda what a combo also grape tomatoes and chucks of apples really breaks up it all. I had to order the Berkshire Pork Chop roasted and crispy outside and moist and pink inside was so juicy and huge. With it roasted potatoes chucks of chorizo and grape tomatoes also had little necks clams in with it which was very different but went well with the rest. Wife ordered the free range chicken with spatzle which is my fav and broccolini. This is a def make a reservation and look forward to a great meal with a great staff. AC works great thank god. Parking is meters plus a lot across the street. Little pricy but worth every penny for the quality they use. read more
