All the protein here is breaded thickly and fried to make the meat seem bigger than what it really is. It's a cheap spot so I guess you get what you pay for. Pretty good for Chinese fast food / take out. Dirt cheap combos that include soup, fried or steamed rice, and an appetizer (spring roll, crab puff, or chicken wing). Good white-meat chicken that actually looks, tastes, and feels like chicken and quality ingredients overall for everything I've tried here. Can't go wrong with the value the place offers for take out and delivery for the quality food offered. Delivery is also free within 5 miles and with $10 minimum, but it takes a good amount of time to actually get it delivered (and I'm about 2 miles from the restaurant). Driving to the location and picking up the food is MUCH quicker. Would be 4 stars if quicker delivery and if the atmosphere of the place didn't detract from the dining experience (kind of run down place with run down furniture and overall runney-downness). OK here goes: This place is the BEST sketch Chinese value you can get for $6.50 hands down. It's a hole in the wall that lets you get an entree, rice, appetizer, and soup in 10 minutes or less from calling it in. Now remember, I said it was a hole in the wall, so you've got to adjust my 4 star rating for that too and have your expectations set accordingly: they aren't trying to woo you in with ambiance, or anything like that. Hunan restaurant: consistent, average Americanized Chinese fare. And that's fine, because sometimes a girl just really wants some fried rice. The chicken fried rice is one of their best dishes because they use all white meat chicken; I'm really bothered when you get a fried rice with weird, rubbery looking dark meat. Also not super greasy, which is a plus. Sometimes it's a little under seasoned, but that's an easily remedied issue. The orange chicken is not bad, I like the spring rolls, and the egg drop soup is good too. I've gotten slightly soggy Hunan Beef a couple of times, which wasn't great. The sesame chicken isn't bad either. So here's the deal: it's fast, reliable, delivery Chinese food, and it's better than any of the others that deliver in the medical center. I love you Takee Outee!!!!! Besides ramen noodles this was my primary source of fuel when I was in grad school. Not much to say other than it is a crap load of food all for less than 6 bucks. Yeah its way ghetto on the outside, food is served on styrofoam plates, and it's greasy super americanized "Chinese Food". But hey sometimes that's exactly what you crave. All day lunch special is an entree, fried/steam rice, choice of soup, and an appetizer. Did I mention this was only 6 bucks... I've eaten almost everything on the menu except for the "Chef Specialties" as if there really was a chef, but getting back to the point, everything I've tried is really good for the price. My favorite two things by far are deep fried chicken wings in ginger tempura which are only 4 buck for turkey size wings, and the lo mein. At most chinese restaurants the lo mein is a wimpy spaghetti style noodle, but here it is more of a cross between egg noodles and udon noodles. The thing I'll miss most about this place is the convenience. It makes no bones about the fact that it's a sketchy ass dive (one look at the surrounding area confirms this). But "Takee Outee" is a solid, solid greasy spoon. When I'm hangry, don't know what to do for dinner, and need to eat in less than 30 minutes I order to-go from here. If you've never ordered from them, here are a couple tips: 1. Get the chicken wings! (seriously, they're good) 2. Don't be offended when the woman on the phone hangs up abruptly after you put in your order. That's just her thing. Kung pao chicken is my favorite. Most combos come with entree, rice, soup, and choice of chicken wings, eggroll, or crab rangoon. You get way more food than you can shove down your gullet for, like, $6-7 at most. I love this little Restaurant. It is fabulous both for 'takee outee' or eatee innee. They are always very pleasant and the food is consistently very good. The price is reasonable. They deliver as well. This has become one of my favorite standard 'go to' places near NRG. I highly recommend their Hot and Sour soup. It is very tasty and not oily like so many places can be. The General Tso chicken is the bomb. :) Nice pieces of chicken with the perfect ratio of sauce to chicken. Ordered takeout from their online menu. The food was ready within 15 minutes! I went to pick it up and it was already boxed and waiting for me at the counter. The service was fast and friendly. And the food was okay. Considering the ridiculous low prices, I would not expect gourmet chef quality, but it's pretty good. And of course I tried the egg drop soup after all the reviews here, so YES! It IS amazing. I am a sucker for appetizers so here's my tip: don't get the crab puffs. Compared to other restaurants (I'm not sure if they buy them pre-made or what not) they have very little stuffing and it's mainly fried pastry. Get the wings though! While not Chinese cuisine, they give you two fairly large wings to munch on. And they're delicious! Would I order again? Yes! Would I recommend this to a friend for a date? This is mostly about the service. The food options, which I have tried plenty of, have been hits and misses..and one time I had a stomach virus because of it. So today I ordered food for the hubby and myself around 7 pm. The lady who worked there told me the usual 30-45 minutes. The longest wait time we had from there was probably 1 hour..but today, it was different... I called at 8 to see what was taking so long. The guy who picked up said, "She already left." 2 minutes later I received a call stating that she was going to be there in 2 minutes. We went downstairs, wait in the lobby...and no one..I received another call from the delivery girl and said that she gave it to the security guard. I told her that we always met up with the previous delivery people in front of the apartment lobby. She told us to just stay and that she would meet up. One minute later, she called back and said, "Now I know where you are." After a total of waiting outside in the dark, she finally arrived around 8:25 PM, we saw a car drive fast through the Luby's parking lot next to our apartment.. The girl stepped out and apologized that she accidentally gave our order to another person and they might have ate it already. She offerred us $20 to reorder another meal. By then, we were pretty upset. Tired, hungry..we said no to the offer and asked for a refund. By the time we reached out apartment, I received a call from the girl again. I didn't want to answer so I gave the phone to my husband. She told him that she got our order back from the person and said that they didn't touch or eat it. Being unsure whether or not that was true, my husband told the girl no and proceed with the refund. This was very disappointing. We will never order from this place again. When reviewing I take several aspects of the business into account I.E price vs quality, promptness in answering the phone, accuracy in my order, speed of delivery. This place gets 5 for a great reason. We have all had the standard issue Chinese fare. It is usually a little over priced and the Tsos always has too much breading....NOT HERE!!!! I ordered pork fried rice, fried dumplings, a General Tsos which for 7 bucks is actually a combo!!!! I got wonton soup as well as chicken wings for 7 bucks....WTF!? How are they in business? My total tab to have this little gem deliver to my place all this awesome grub? Under 20 dollars. They will have my business as long as they can afford to stay open....with profit margins like this they must do some insane volume. Way to go Takee Outee. I am a believer. read more

As you can see from my history I don't give out a lot of one star reviews but this place was just awful. I don't have high expectations when I order out cheap and easy Chinese food. The food was so far below expectations that you could not pay me to eat here again. I ordered the sesame chicken which was bland and filled with questionable meat. The sauce had no flavor and the breading was soggy. 1/5 The rice that came with it was equally pathetic. It tasted and looked like microwaved rice. There were hardly any vegetables to boot. I couldn't bare myself to finish it. 1/5 Next up were the steamed dumplings. One of my favorite things to get, they are very hard to mess up. Unfortunately they found a way to make this inedible. The meat filling had some spices but the dough looked and tasted like it was factory made. 1/5 Last up was the won ton soup. The only thing that was edible, 3/5. I used to work nearby and I went to this place at least once per week. I agree that the selection isn't too great, but the food is pretty decent. The restaurant itself is kind of run down (unfortunately really ugly looking) on the inside and out, but don't let that scare you away, it's not as bad as it looks. The lunch special was really cheap, like $5 or something for a dish plus a crab puff, rice, and soup. The people are really nice too. Sometimes a lady would be sitting at one of the tables shelling shrimp near where I ate. It didn't bug me too much, but I know some people who wouldn't like that. Unfortunately, Takee Outee didn't stand out enough for me to give 4 stars. If only the restaurant looked a bit better, I might be tempted to add another star. read more

Not sure what all the fuss is about. I got the Hunan Delight (extra spicy) and it was bland and not spicy at all. I ordered takeout and the food was ready quickly but that was about it. Egg drop soup was tepid and tasted generic. The dumplings I ordered were decent but not enough for me to ever consider going back. The food just isn't that good. There are far better options near the Med Center and even for the price I can't see the value in it. I love hole-in-the-wall Chinese spots but this one was severely disappointing. Pass. read more

I ordered take out from this restaurant tonight. It's my second time ordering from them. I didn't call ahead and it didn't matter. They had my food out lightening fast. I think I was out the door 6 minutes after I ordered. I got shrimp fried rice and I'm happy with it so far. It's on the blander side but is still really tasty. They were generous with the shrimp, too. Food is very reasonably priced and portions are large. Also, the folks working the counter were pleasant and made me feel welcome. My husband and I have ordered from this place many times. It's not the greatest but it is the cheapest, and the taste is on par with some of the other places we've ordered from in the area. However, yesterday afternoon we ordered food from this place for the last time. I ordered sweet 'n' sour shrimp like I always do. Six hours later I was so sick my husband asked me if I wanted to go to the hospital. I ended up toughing it out at home but needless to say, our Saturday night was ruined. Speaking for an asian, the food is typical american chinese food. They do try to have a more authentic menu for overseas guests. But for the price you pay, this is not a bad deal. If you dont want to go all the way to chinatown near alice to get authentic chinese dishes, this is a good alternative to feed your craving for american chinese. If you are looking for fast freshly made cheap Chinese food this is the place, especially if you live in the med center area. This is definitely a take out restaurant. The meal combos are very large and your money goes far. The hits were the crab and cream cheese fried won tons, sweet and sour chicken, and the orange chicken. The sweet and sour chicken was the highlight for my kids. The chow mien was a little greasy, but the flavor was good. We will definitely be back on our next visit to Houston. read more

Super fast delivery and great tasting food. Order from there about once a week. Really enjoy their chicken wings as an appetizer. It's name definitely fits as they primarily do take out. Inside is very simple and has a few tables to dine in.
