The ambiance is pretty local, almost diner-ish but I beg you not to let that hinder your food cravings. Prices are fair for fresh seafood. We ordered the fish and chips as well as a clam chowder bread bowl - both were fabulous! Came out quickly and piping hot. The flavors were wonderful and just what we were craving for lunch. I moved to Brookings about a month ago and I tried this place and while service was a bit Slow, food was definitely worth the wait! Ordered clams, fish and clam chowder all items were excellent. First, I would give 5 stars to the woman with the sparkly mask who took our order and juggled nearly everything by herself in a very busy restaurant. She was amazing. As for the food, I would give it 0 stars. I ordered the clam strip basket with hushpuppies and W ordered the crab cake basket. This is a place where you order at the counter, so I warned him that he should order something else, but he wanted crab cakes and I couldn't stop him from ordering them. My clams were so breaded that I could barely detect them. The breading wasn't spiced and it was just like eating little greasy bread pieces. I LOVE tater tots, but I don't eat them often because they are evil little greasy things. These tater tots were the worst I've ever had. The taste was so weird. I can't even explain it. The slaw was drenched in mayo. Everything was practically inedible. As we were waiting forever for our food, I told W that they were probably defrosting the crab cakes. As usual, I was right. These perfectly round flat crab cakes coated with tons of bread crumbs and possible deep fried (didn't even resemble a real crab cake) were super crunchy on the outside and super gooey on the inside. Stopped here with my family on our round about way home from Klamath Falls. I was looking forward to some fresh delicious fish and chips. I was so disappointed! The fish was really bland and was not battered at all. We also ordered the halibut bites which were very obviously a frozen product as well as the chicken strips. I just don't understand how small establishments like this with a treasure trove of very fresh seafood right out the back door resort to serving frozen processed food and charge an arm and a leg for it?!?! I've been traveling the last 25 years to the Oregon Coast just to eat yummy seafood and I'm sad to report that their food was bland and overpriced. I was also very disgusted with their customer service as they were very rude and yelled out loudly for everyone to hear and told us to clean up after ourselves. We stayed at the RV park nearby so this was right in our backyard. Decided to give this a try. They offered takeout and there were a few outdoor seating though can be a bit cold and windy. The food took a bit long but it was amazing! Fish and chips was fresh and crispy, popcorn shrimp was good but what took the prize for me was the battered deep fried oyster. Had written the place off my list due to reviews of how long the lines were but it ended up being in the same marina area as something else I wanted to try and since the Hungry Clam wasn't crazy busy at the time, I switched plans immediately to try it. Got a cup of the clam chowder (solid, needed black pepper), and the fried clams basket. Neither were to the level of greatness I used to get while living in Seattle (thus 4 stars). A little mom and pop seafood shop with good fried munchies. We came in on a Friday night, lots of seating for a big group. Ordered Fish and Chips, Clam Chowder Bread Bowl, and Scallops Basket with hush puppies. Didn't wait long, food was served hot but they somehow got our order mixed up as the fish were under the hush puppies and the scallops on top of a bed of fries. No biggie. The food was overall alright, not over/under cooked. Price is about the same as in most coastal towns. It's a restaurant to come visit when you're in town with picky eaters. And judging by the faces of those enjoying the food it gets a big thumbs up. My fish and chips were delicious. Their extensive menu has a lot more to offer so I will definitely be back. The name of this establishment implies that they specialize in clams. If you like clam chowder with the consistency of library paste, this is your place for sure. The "calamari", however, is cut from large "steaks" of squid (we're told), not rings and tentacles, then seasoned and fried. The seasoning was so salty as to make it inedible. Had to make a quick update to my original review. Sadly, we have come here a few more times recently and find the fare to be very standard, thus 3 stars now. We used to look forward to their "fresh" halibut and chips but it's just not that good. Instead of the fish being moist and flakey, it was more rubbery and fishy. We also used to enjoy their clam chowder but today it seemed off. I think the worst flaw for the chowder was it being served only slightly warm, not hot at all. This place may look like (and probably is) a hole in the wall, but once you get inside, you are greeted with cozy nautical decor and some of the freshest fried seafood available! I wanted to order the entire menu but didn't think I could finish it all, so I got the closest thing to the whole menu which was the Ultimate Combo. It was supposed to have fries and cod, shrimp, calamari, and oysters, but since they were out of shrimp they let me substitute more oysters...score! For $18, I got a box that was absolutely stuffed to the brim with everything and it had a very generous seafood to fries ratio. Breading was perfect and light. Just enough to be crispy not soggy, and it let the taste of the fresh seafood shine through. The oysters were by far the best, they were huge and buttery and melted in my mouth. My second favorite was the calamari, big thick slabs of it. Took a chance on this place as we drove by, and SO glad we did! The Staff was fabulous and accommodating, even during "social distancing" craziness. You can eat inside or out on the picnic tables.
