Disappointed :( I really wanted to like this place due to the fact Jennifer A. always eats here and seems to enjoy it and my bestie Brittany N wanted to try them out. The Juicy Crab is located behind a plaza with plenty of parking. The decor is really cute when you walk in because it looks like customers just write on the wall w/ a sharpie. So looks like graffiti. I saw a post sign near the hostess desk sayin there could be a 15-60min wait time. Once I saw that I was thinking "this ish gots to be bomb". The hostess escorted us to a booth which was was to cold for me since it was by the window and she moved us. Our waitress came a few min after and she was super nice. Showed us how the menu worked and made some suggestions in reference to the mild, medium, hot levels. I ordered 1lb of snow crab, 1/2lb of shrimp, 1/2lb of sausage, medium in the juicy sauce special. It came with 2 potatoes & 2 pieces of corn. All this was $35. My daughter and I shared all this. The food came out literally 5min after we ordered it. Super fast! She gave us a little bucket with bibs in it so we don't get crab juice all over ourselves and extra butter. The food: It was ok..... The medium sauce wasn't that spicy I probably could have gone w/ the hot. The juicy sauce was cool... Nothing to jump for joy over. Overall I felt the food was mediocre. Think I'll continue to drive to the hood to the Crab Pot. This place was double the price and not as good as my little spot in the ghetto. For me this was a flop. Last Friday was the second Lenten Friday this year, and I was out and about in the area, so I thought I would try this place for the first time. I called first to ask a couple of questions and got a friendly informative person with personality. It being mid-afternoon, the place was not crowded at all. I decided to sit at the bar where only one other person was dining. There was no music playing, so the place was fairly quiet. I ordered a margarita and a dozen raw oysters to start. They didn't have a standard margarita and what I got was kind of bland. The oysters were fairly large for the Atlanta area, about three times the size of the ones I had recently received at Pappadeaux on Duluth Highway, but while the ones at Pappadeaux were small (and more expensive), they were moist and fresh. These at the Juicy Crab had a dry surface and a strong fishy smell. I believe they were just shy of going completely bad. I had plenty of time to observe them because they were attached to their half-shells and I had not been given any utensils. Upon request, I finally received a dinner fork. When I had ordered them, I told the waitress that I only needed plenty of lemon and no other sauces. Luckily, she had complied with a plate full of lemon wedges. I had to drench each one in lemon juice and pop it into the back of my mouth to get them down. For the main course, I had a snow crab cluster in medium Cajun sauce. I now understand why it's called the Juicy Crab. It's cooked in a bag in liquid. The crab cluster was large, juicy and delicious. Again, there were no utensils. Upon request I received another dinner fork and a crab cracker. The restaurant really should provide knives for the potato and those tiny pick forks. Unlike the friendly voice on the phone, none of the employees were friendly. They did their jobs, but I received not one smile or friendly word. I could hear them laughing and joking with each other, but they were not friendly to the customers. I would go there again, but only have the crab and a beer. HOLY YES! Hard to be a pessimist in a place like this. Me and my boyfriend came here after his brother and sister in law tried it first. The place was PACKED, the wait was long, and there was nowhere to sit so we stood outside waiting for the ticket number they give you to be called. Basically what you want to do is pick you choice of poison(seafood), how hot(spicy) you want it, and your seasoning.. There's a minimum of 2 options and it comes half a pound of shrimp, snow crab, ect. I highly recommend the Juicy Special which combines all of the seasonings and medium or hot spicy level. Your food will arrive in a tied plastic bag swimming in a beautiful sea of butter and seasonings. I usually just dump all the contents out on the metal plate they give you as well. Cute crab bibs and gloves to make sure you can keep yourself as clean as possible. The waiting staff has always been really nice and accommodating despite how busy they always are. We have been coming here for the last 2 years. We order the same items every time. 1-2 lbs of snow crabs, with steamed rice and extra sauce on the side for us to eat with the rice. One of the reasons that we have been coming to juicy crab is because of the amazing cajun flavors that cover the seafood taste of the crab. We did not eat much seafood prior to juicy crab, however, this visit was very different. They have changed multiple things about the restaurant- most likely because of the recent SUPER low inspection score. They did have to make changes. Within those changes, it seems they have increased costs for paper cups to replace plastic cups, but I have noticed a decreased quality in the food. The crab was not filled with flavor in every bite as usual. In fact, my husband couldn't even eat it because it tasted too fishy - which as I mentioned, we never eat seafood and only ate here because the flavor would cover that flavor. There is usually a ton of extra sauce for the crabs to be drenched in for the flavor - there was not much sauce at all in the bag. This resulted in barely any flavor in any of the food. We were so disappointed. Additionally, the extra side of sauce that we usually order to pair with the steamed rice went from $2 to $10! Just for some extra sauce on the side when we got jipped this time with the sauce on the crabs as well. To top it all off - the service was very poor. We received our food with no bucket, utensils, plates or bibs. We had to wait a while to inform the waiter that we did not have anything to eat the crabs in or with. We then asked for sprite and some utensils that we didn't previously receive, only to receive sweet tea in passing with no time to let the waiter know that it was incorrect and that we still didn't have our other requested items from the first time. We did not receive some of the items we asked for until we were completely done. Since we used to LOVE juicy crab and its something we usually crave - this was highly disappointing. My husband did not even eat seafood before juicy crab and I loved being able to bring him here. You will have a long wait here around dinner time but it is well worth it! The seafood was fresh, warm and the sauce was delicious. We had the crawfish, snow crab legs, and blue crabs. The crawfish were nice and large as well as the blue crabs! The garlic butter seasoning with medium spice was just the right amount of spicy and I enjoyed dipping my peeled crawfish and crab meat in it. They gave us 4 blue crabs in the 1 pound bag, and had already cleaned the guts for you so the meat comes out of the body way easier. The meat was good just a little over cooked so it was difficult to get them out of the claws in one piece. Pricing wasn't bad for the amount you get, I've gotten it for less at other restaurants. Everything I ordered was delicious. She me items were a bit pricey; like the crab legs for $75/lb. And their list of drinks ran high. My only disappointment was the fact that they were no longer selling oysters on the half shell even though they were listed under appetizers. Yet shrimp cocktails were not listed. A big letdown!! Baskets were quite reasonable while boils in a bag were sold by the half or whole pound and tended to run much higher in price. Those at our table who ordered them found them quite delicious. This is a gem I stumbled over the summer and have not yet been disappointed! If your into a more relaxed atmosphere including a crab plastic bib and gloves. I usually get the pound of snow crab legs which come with corn and potato. The choices of season is on the hot side so beware when picking. Personally I like hot so the spices are great for me. I finally got around to checking this off my bookmark. Ever since I've had The Boiling Crab in California, I've been looking for a substitute. Sadly, the search continues and the cravings go on. I got a pound of the Head-on Shrimp with some Crawfish over the Cajun Special in Hot. You get one potato and half a corn on the cob. No sausage. The Cajun flavor is there, but it lacked something. Boiling Crab's seasoning had loads of minced garlic visible in the mix and it was so buttery and flavorful. Juicy Crab on the other hand was just red and unsuspecting. I like my shrimp cooked a little bit longer. The shrimp shell would've been a bit easier to peel if it was cooked a little bit longer. The shrimp shell clings to raw shrimp and as it cooks, the shrimp shrinks and curls, making the shell easier to separate from the flesh. The shrimp tasted like it just got to the acceptable stage of being cooked, meaning it didn't have enough time to seep in the seasoning. I was disappointed with the crawfish. The flavor is in the head and it wasn't there. The flavor was too subtle. Again, this didn't have enough time to seep in the seasoning. I appreciated the gloves and the disposal bin. That's a nice addition, but it also made the shrimp challenging to peel. Like other restaurants of this nature, you do get a bib too. Our server was super accommodating. Service was fast. I just paid $43 for inedible food. I ordered a fried shrimp platter, no seasoning at all. I realized that I was overcharged bc i asked for the 1/2 combo. I wanted medium cajun, garlic butter on the Dungeness crab, shrimp and sausage. I was charged for a pound of Dungeness, but I didn't have any time so i paid. Im glad I received my shrimp and sausage in a separate bag, because the crab was the biggest issue of many. I noticed that the shrimp had lemon pepper in it, i specified that I did not want lemon pepper, but it was clearly there, lemon seeds and all. Fine i can try to ignore it, but it was not what I wanted. Then I had to throw away the whole $24 Dungeness crab bc it was filthy. It literally had brownish-green gunk that i could scrape with my nails. But the moment i touched it, I realized I had so much SAND on my hands. The whole crab was extremely dirty. Like how dare they serve that to anyone?! I am a dialysis, renal patient. I already have to watch what I eat. Houston, I think we have a management problem. Lets start off with the good. The food was good - we shared the calamari, she had a shrimp basket, I had an oyster basket. Fries were top notch. The calamari was luke warm, not hot when it came out (probably because it had been sitting for a while as this place is, ahem, a tad disorganized - more on that later) but it was still tasty. For the folks in the back cooking - I give you a 4/5 stars.... sadly it's the management that's ruining this place. We sat at the bar, and our bartender was very nice, albeit slow and possibly a bit overwhelmed (it was quite busy on a Sunday afternoon). The beer and wine selection here is very limited. The wife had a Blue Moon, and I a Jack 'n Coke. She made a great Jack 'n Coke... later the "manager" asked if we wanted anything else and I ordered a second - that was terrible: two ice cubes helplessly floating around in a warm bath of Jack Daniels and Coke - pathetic. My wife was never asked if she wanted a second beer. Anyway, I think the bartender has great potential if she ever gets out and works at a place with decent management. So, about that manager? Well, it seems there was a main general manager, and 3 or 4 other "managers". None of them really seemed to be doing a whole lot - and it shows. There were lots of wait staff and bussers, yet nobody was doing a lot - no hustle, nothing. We watched as two servers compared the sizes of their hands at the end of the bar as people waited at tables. Every time we glanced back at the kitchen there was at least a 1/2 dozen servers back there talking and laughing. It was sad really.... they could have been doing so much better.... and I'm thinking making much better money, if only they tried. So back to our main manager... a sloppy, disheveled, buffoon of a man... he was spending most of his time behind the bar - looking to be dealing with some time of reconciliation/accounting on his laptop, calling a cook who apparently was scheduled who didn't show (and speaking quite sternly to him naturally) and barking several instructions at some of his other servers. In a way, it was entertaining for us - but really, these are things that shouldn't be done in front of the customers - it was slightly embarrassing (or I should say, I was embarrassed for him). And someone should tell him - when you make a drink, use more than two ice cubes! read more

This place is a complete disorganize mess as far as seating customers. Upon arrival there were about 20 people standing around waiting with a piece of paper with a number on it. The number is used to determine who is next to sit. If you are not standing around close enough to hear your number, you will be passed over. I really blame this bad process on the owner and manager. I felt really bad for the employees having to have such a bad system to seat people. I was surprised that people were fairly patient and waiting. There were several people frustrated and just left. Now to the food, it was decently priced and good. I would come back...but not on a Saturday night, it just too crowded and seating process is not good. We were here for lunch on a Friday and dinner during the weekend. Is definitely is packed during the weekend so either get there early or be ready to wait. I think the prices are standard compare to other places and all the food is packed with flavor. I alway pick garlic butter and never been disappointed. The service is fine; they check on you about 2-3 times and food comes out fairly fast. I love eating seafood so I always come here whenever I crave it. Deceptive Waitress Seeks Double TIP! So I was torn as to whether I should give 2 or 3 stars for this review. Let me start by saying the food was great. But I believe that the total experience took a turn for the worst when we felt deceived by our waitress. There were a couple of things that happened during the course of this evening that displeased me, but the main one was the waitress writing over the gratuity line with a SHARPIE so we couldn't see it had already been added. When we asked her about it, she acted like we should have known that the gratuity was under the blacked out line. We had to show her another customer's receipt as she tried to play coy. When we asked her to bring our receipt back, bc we'd paid cash and told her to keep the change initially- she responded that she had already thrown it away! Really? She told us she would have to ring up the items again to get another receipt.THAT IS A LIE! If I can reprint a receipt on square, surely this established chain restaurant can do the same! She acted as if she didn't know how much the bill was or what the tip was, when we'd watched her count the $19 and stuff them in her apron. After we requested the manager, she promptly returned with no manager and the correct change from our ticket that was "supposedly in the trash" (I have a copy of someone else's receipt so I hope I can post the pic here!) Also.... We'd brought a cake, it was my b-day, whom I presumed to be the store manager asked how things were going, while looking at the cake in the middle of the table we said great. He told us they sold desserts and that we should have eaten theirs. Cool, we will know next time. Again the cake was on the table the entire night, but when we requested a knife and plates to cut it, it took forever. I went to the bar to ask for one, bc clearly our waitress now has an attitude about the whole tip thing, and didn't want to bring them. The bartender proceeded to get the items I requested while, what might have been another shift manager told me that they really don't allow people to cut cakes- I told her I didn't need them to cut it. She said we would still have to charge me (which would have been understandable if they said that 2 hours earlier!), but since they didn't. I asked if I could conclude that they were charging me for a utensil, which was essentially a plastic knife. The bartender handed me the items, and the shift mgr yelled at him, what are you doing? I responded he is providing customer service ma'am. Thanks, and walked back to my table. She followed me to the table, trying to tell me something about how they are ALLOWING me to cut my cake! We cut it, ate it, shared it with another table who was also celebrating a birthday! But my party stated before I arrived they no longer seat unless the entire party is there. The menu is still the same and I wish they would add more than wine for drinks. The reason why I stopped going is because the proportions kept getting smaller. I noticed after a year going faithfully. Well looks like nothing has changed. Weekend waits can be VERY long but so worth it. Our server was quick and attentive. I got 1lb of crab legs and 1lb of shrimp (heads off) and they were delicious with the Juicy Special sauce medium spicy which was perfect. My husband had 1 lb each of crab legs and clam in the medium garlic butter sauce. Again, delicious! I really appreciated the fact that my shrimp shells were split backed and deveined. After a long day at the pool, my friends and I had a craving for some seafood boil. I knew the Juicy Crab had been around a while after seeing it in a nearly deserted shopping center (ex-Toys R Us/Barnes and Noble) that used to be the popping with business in years past. The Juicy Crab has both indoor and outdoor seating and has many booths and tables to accommodate parties of all sizes. There was a little bit of a wait, but that might be because we had a larger party and it's a holiday weekend. On comparison to the only other seafood boil place I've been to in the greater ATL area, Crawfish Shack, I'd have to say this is on par, if not better, due to the quality of the seafood, the taste of the sauces, and lower prices. However, I don't think they have table service at Crawfish Shack, so maybe less the tip there. They offer seafood combos where you can choose 1/2 lbs of various seafood items at the market price. If you only want 1/2 lb of a single item, its $1 extra as they are trying to encourage you to order two items. Keep in mind, they do run out of certain things (i.e. this time they ran out of blue crab and the larger clams) as the day runs through. You also have your choice of various seasonings/sauces and level of spice. I went for the "Juicy" sauce which was a combo of all their sauces. I went with 1/2 lb snow crabs, 1/2 lb baby clams, with the "hot" spice level. They supply you with bibs, tools, tubs to throw your shells, tons of napkins and wipes... all the goods you need to enjoy your meal. The 1/2 dozen clams for $9 were HUGE! Great deal for some large, meaty oysters. Not like some of the ones I've had at restaurants that charge up the butt for a teeny tiny oyster. The seafood I found to be fresh, the clams plenty, and the crabs... a decent helping (though I could totally have eaten more). You get 1 potato and 1 corn in your baggie of seafood. I didn't find the sauce to be overly oily like some of the places I've been to in NYC/ATL, but as usual, the seasoning is quite heavy on the sodium. Nothing unbearable, though, and it had really good flavor. Crabs were fresh and there were more clams than I thought there were going to be. The "hot" spice level was perfect, though I did have a pretty hefty fire mouth going on while eating the corn. The Cajun fries were super hot and fried to perfection. Service was okay... it was hard to get a hold of someone sometimes and they did forget some food we definitely ordered. I did like that they split checks here without any complaining.
