We were pretty excited to try this place. In the Laveque Tower, we had high hopes. The restaurant is on the 2nd floor. While it has the guts to be a class act it was so disappointing. I made reservations and requested a window seat. The place was not busy but we were seated at a table for two at an apex. The menu was limited, not sure if it was because it was Valentines Day or not. Either way, the well done burger was pink inside of both burgers. The french dip had a nice bun but the meat tasted fatty and the dip was greasy. The sandwich had mayo, cheese, and pickled onions on it. The fries were skinny and reminded me of fair fries, which I love. However, there was so much salt and seasoning on them they were not even edible. We asked for the bar menu, but no bartender so it was limited to beer and wine which we decided to pass. Our waiter was nice enough but we never got refills on our soda or water. We will probably never eat here again. The prices were reasonable for the venue but the food was very disappointing. We will probably go try the bar, first come first serve, sometime. Food options for the restaurant side of The Keep was mediocre at best. The bar side of The Keep had better options. Not sure why they wouldn't offer the same menu for each side of the restaurant. The service was slow, too. Had 6:15 reservations for a show at the Palace right next door at 8pm. We didn't get out of the restaurant until 7:50. That's after the waiter took our CC to cash us out at 7:25pm but continued to do the same for the other tables and left us sitting there watching the clock. (and we only had salads.) Tonight, my husband and I attended "The Keep" for Valentines Day dinner. We always look for unique restaurants around the city to experience on special days like Valentines Day, Sweetest Day, our birthdays, etc. I was researching restaurants and saw "The Keep" and thought to myself "We have never been to the historic LeVeque Tower." I realized the restaurant was inside the tower and knew this would be a great experience. When you walk into the LeVeque Tower you are presented with a blast from the past in the best way. From historical architecture to the hotel keeping the old school lobby it has always had. When we entered, we had no idea where to go as there were no signs pointing towards the restaurant. The guard at the front desk was very standoffish and said "I guess just walk up the stairs." What do you mean "you guess?" You work there and know where the restaurant is! That's besides the point. We get to the top of the stairs which might I add are not handicap accessible at all. The host greets us with a positive vibe and escorts us to our table. That is where things took a turn for the worse. The restaurant is no bigger than 250 square feet and smells rather old inside. The atmosphere is not anything close to what I was expecting. Servers were in jeans and t-shirts, the cooking staff were cursing most of the dinner as the kitchen is literally in the middle of the restaurant and there was ONE server for the entire restaurant! If you go to "The Keeps" website you are presented with an ad below that states "Valentines Day Dinner Special $79.95 per couple" and has an entire menu of its own. This runs from February 11th-14th. When our server arrived to our table after 20 minutes of waiting, I advised him we would be doing the Valentines Day dinner special. The server then says "We don't have such a thing". I showed him the website and the menu and he stated "Yeah I don't know why that's advertised. Probably just to bring people in." Because we were there, we stayed and ordered food. We ordered drinks first which took 20 minutes to get two cocktails, we waited an additional 30 minutes just to put our order in for our main courses and then was asked THREE times by the server "What did you order again?" Meaning he never put our order in when we gave it to him. Our food finally arrived 45 minutes after we ordered it and was absolutely disgusting. The steak I ordered was rubbery and burnt to a crisp. My husband ordered short ribs with Gouda Mac and cheese and had to put so much pepper and salt just to eat it. The server never came back to refill our waters or ask for refills so we were left to eat are food with no drink at all. After it was all said and done, we spent 2 1/2 hours for this whole experience. The only thing that made this even a tolerable experience was having my husband across from me to spend my night with. I would NEVER recommend this restaurant to anyone and I can assure you I will NEVER be returning. This restaurant should be shut down, remodeled, and opened under new ownership that can appreciate the historical aspects of this building and being an atmosphere that embodies that. An interesting place with great drinks. The restaurant is on the second floor of the Leveque Tower. The restaurant is centered around a big open kitchen area so you might get a glimpse of your food being made. The ceiling is a bit weird. I don't normally notice things like this, but they have a dropped ceiling set up with areas left uncovered so you catch glimpses of insulated pipes and other mechanicals. It's as though they were going for a steampunk/industrial vibe, but didn't quite pull it off. Otherwise, the ambience is quite pleasing and bang up to the minute in restaurant fashion, I think. The bar area is opposite a main hallway from the restaurant, so it's a bit of trek for your server to get your drinks to you. I foresee a few spilled drinks and broken glasses on busy nights when servers have to navigate around tipsy (or wide) patrons. We sampled the Manhattan, the Leveque 75 (a version of a French 75 and quite excellent) and the Rat Pack Hooch. All were great and definitely stand out in an increasingly competitive cocktail scene here in C-Bus. As for the food, it was pretty good as well. There's no bread service, which I thought was weird for this level of restaurant. Or our server might have forgotten about the bread. Difficult to say for sure. I had the broiled oysters for my appetizer and the scallops as my main course. Both of which were amazing. The broiled oysters were greatly helped (as would most dishes) by the large chunks of bacon sprinkled on top. The scallops were unique by being much more spicy than I would have expected for an American restaurant, but all the better for it. My wife and I tend to eat meat (particularly red meat) when dining out and skew to more vegetarian meals at home. My wife wasn't feeling any of the meat based dishes on the menu and tried the Lentils and Legumes. We were both pleasantly surprised by it. The lentils are the base with a very smoky taste (or lots of liquid smoke) with other vegetables sharing the spotlight. Honestly, this was my favorite dish of the evening. It's worth trying even if you aren't a vegetarian out for an evening with a bunch of omnivores. We'll definitely be back sometime soon, perhaps with some vegetarians in tow. read more

We visited Columbus last week, and it happened that we had lunch and dinner in the same place. Lunch we had in the bar area. I didn't like the waitress, dark haired lady, she was rude and not friendly. She brought food or drink without smile or any comment such as "bon apetite" or "enjoy your food". However, the quality of food was wonderful. Next, we had dinner at the same place, and again I was delighted by taste of the food. I order a whole fish. The portion was a little too big for me, but fish- sea bass was amazing! Also, I ate burrata from appetizers menu- highly suggesting to try. In the end, we came back to bat for drinks and this time, we had a bartender who did great cocktails. I would give five tarts if the first waitress would be more polite to the guests. read more

I recently ate at the keep in Columbus and I would say avoid this restaurant at all costs. I made a reservation weeks ago only to be sat at the bar. After I asked twice they were kind and able to move us. But soon after I got my first drink and the glass was covered in someone else's lipstick. I didn't write the restaurant off at that point because the food was good but later to find my mother got extremely horrible food poisoning from the Scallops and was VERY ill all night. Overall it was a horrible experience and I don't recommend wasting your time or money there. read more

We stayed at the Hotel LeVeque and had a restaurant credit. We got there early and we're the first ones there. The waitress was patient and explained the drinks. We were happy with the drinks although I forget now what we ordered (picture included). My husband had the pork chops and thought it was one of the best meals he's had. I tried his cornbread and it was sweet and caramelized from frying. My short ribs with the Mac and Cheese was good not great. The best part for me was the horseradish sauce on top. If I got a bite with the short rib, spinach and sauce it was good. However, it was really all the same texture. My husband told the waitress how much he liked his pork chops and the chef then came out to talk to us. He was interested in our opinions. We felt valued and highly enjoyed the experience. If we were passing through Columbus again we would definitely stop. read more

Gas-powered lamps? A historic skyscraper in the heart of downtown? Great drinks and food? Go to the Keep. From the outside, on a winter evening, you may think the LeVeque Tower and surrounding area has been abandoned. The Starbucks is closed, there aren't many people on the street, it's dark... Then everything changes when you walk into the Keep. From the onset you are greeted by very nice hosts, the ambiance is a throw back to a finer time, and the lighting is perfect. When you walk in you're transported from the barren street to a surprisingly busy restaurant and bar (make reservations or pray) with people from all over Columbus and the Great Lakes, and they're dressed to kill. Wear a jacket or nice dress. We had the mussels, two orders of them, in fact, and the raw oysters. All were fantastic. For the main course we split the scallops. Phenomenal. Period. Some of the best I've had anywhere (and with a price to reflect it). The beer selection could be a little better - the lack of quality Belgian-style beers was a little disappointing, but overall it's good. We didn't have a chance to sample the wine menu, but we are looking forward to brunch at the Keep, next time. Highly recommend! read more

The Keep is a deft and dapper hotel lounge on the second level of the art deco tour de force LeVeque Tower. It is just up the mural sided stairwell from the main entrance off Broad, the star topped Romenque colored and archetypical charactered corridor that symbolizes the most classy spot in Columbus. The bar (on the left, to the right is a relaxed dining room) is a snug angular metal span framed by visionally high end items of multiple traditions and decades. Dotted on the floor behind are lounge areas of soft and leather seating of high intimacy. Beyond the space opens to a balcony that over looks the delicate sharpness of the deco lobby below. The bar is everything dark and lovely, date night with class, the acoustics are lover muted-- it's a place for couples old and young-- and for a seeking rake or playful coquette out on the town, the PI and fetale; the milieu is of 1920s speakeasy. Make V-tines plans now, or stop here before a show at The Palace. Cool digs as I said, pure class. I do love-- strange enough--the column just behind the leather seated bar chairs at the angle that adds to the intimate environment. Advertised as a French brasserie, a relaxed, single dished restaurant, I came here for cocktails so my rating only applies to drinks; justifieble since the Keep was originally that and its bar will probably be of interest to hotel stayers. If I try their interesting food menu, a set of seafood, gourmet comfort, and French items, I will update to reflex. I had two drinks, Both were highly made, tasty, full of spirit, and came in beautiful placement. For 11 bucks a LeVeque 75 gains you Watershed's Barrel Bourbon in a pilsner glass with gin, simple syrup, cava, and lemon. The cava sweetens the bourbon and gin accented by the floating lemon. A nice acid-base, sweet-bitter paradox makes this mix the liquid manifestation of the envronment. For $12 a Paid Lady offers top shelf vodka in honeydew, cucumbers, bitters and lemon in a flute. It has the texture of a mimosa and the slight taste of as well. Excellent. The staff dressed in high class,somewhat 1920 style uniforms were professional and skilled. The Keep keeps the style on high, the drinks on the mark, and its name on my list for a variety of purposes. Drink and style lovers must check it out. read more

overall the experience was fine. i will say i think it is a bit over priced and i probably wouldn't willingly come again. it wasn't that bad to ward me off but just not a place i would frequent. the charcuterie board is not worth 26$ for what you get (the photo is right when it came out). i had the steak frites and it was good the only thing i didn't like was how charred the outside my steak was. our friend at the table had over half her meal tossed and not boxed like she wanted which sucked because she really liked the gnocchi. other than that service was adequate. read more

We decided to try out The Keep for some food/drinks before seeing Jersey Boys at the Palace Theatre next door. We sat down at our table at 6:30 which, we assumed, would give us plenty of time but apparently we were wrong. A server came to take our drink order and we asked for a few minutes to review the Theatre Menu (quicker service for those seeing shows). A "few" minutes turned into about 20 before a different server dropped off our drink and took our order- stuffed dates, a mixed salad, and steak frites. We ordered at about 7 and the server reiterated that the Theatre Menu items would be out quickly and in plenty of time to walk next door for the 8PM show. We ordered an additional drink assuming the timing would align well with our food. Well, in short, we had to cancel our food order after 45 minutes of waiting and scrambled to make the show in time without having eaten anything. Our drink order arrived about 20 minutes after ordering and the server assured us our food was "on the way" but at 7:45 we had no choice but to leave extremely hungry. Even more disappointing was the lack of care by The Keep's staff. As they had stopped coming by our table, I had to track down our sever to tell her we had to go and her only response was "Ok; yeah sorry about the food. We're busy tonight". She then printed off our ticket for the drink, took her time processing the payment, and we were finally able to leave less than 10 minutes before the start of the show. Nothing like going to a 2.5+ hour musical on an empty stomach. Don't recommend and won't be back. read more

We celebrated Thanksgiving at The Keep rather than cook at home. Unlike the holiday offerings at many other fine dining establishments, the menu included a wide variety of dishes. We especially appreciated the addition of prime rib, jumbo shrimp, oysters, and buckeyes. We also enjoyed the excellent service and luxurious, but cozy, atmosphere. Book early if you are going--this restaurant is known for its holiday buffet and was filled to capacity. We will be back. read more

In town for work and this spot was a few blocks from my hotel. Good atmosphere and a helpful staff and some great food. The tapas tag is what drew me in so I wanted to try a few things. Got the Butternut Squash Bisque and Braised Short Rib - the Bisque was great but I should have doubled up on the short rib. How disappointing to stay in such a beautiful hotel with such friendly staff and have horrible service at their main restaurant. Confusing to say the least. We arrived at the bar excited to enjoy a night cap and food and sat there 10 min easily. I finally went up to the bar and got the attention of a man who said oh here's some menus and someone will be right over. He and another unwelcoming woman bartender completely ignored us for another 10 min. On November 6, 2019, my office contacted Kelley Koppinger via email to inquire about details surrounding the burger and beer special available on Thursdays at The Keep. I was planning a holiday happy hour for our staff to gather and discuss the year's happenings and share our excitement over plans for December without leaving anyone out due to cost. Several coworkers across my agency shared with us about the $9 or $13 burger special (with beer or Manhattan) so we wanted to be sure it was available on our specific night and time which Kelley confirmed. We came over the Tuesday before Thanksgiving as a group for (full price) drinks upon the retirement of a coworker to see the space. Fast-forward to Thursday, December 5th when we arrived as a group. We sat in the couch area near the back for nearly fifteen minutes and were not addressed by any staff. When we moved to the counter-top area nearer the bar, the bartender noticed us and asked if he could help us and provided menus. When we mentioned we were interested in the special, he seemed to be unaware of it. As he took our drink orders, I looked up the email from Ms. Koppinger on my laptop as my coworker asked him to "please check" about it while he retrieved our first round. When he returned, he stated they no longer have the special but would honor it with a plain burger and Bud Light only, no fries. I ordered the special to see how the burger was (medium) and it was too bloody for the liking of my coworker, so she ordered another special (medium-well) with no bun, and when it arrived, it was equally bloody. When she asked for it to be cooked more, the bartender told her it would be "okay" because it is "high-quality meat." While the burger tasted fine to me, I was very disappointment in our treatment thus far. My partner and I decided we would leave and go to our regular Thursday night spot and when I got the check and provided my credit card, the bartender returned with yet another check in which he added a charge for my Bud Light. Frustrated by then entire experience, I paid my check and left, tipping despite my promise never to return. I will not be recommending this establishment to any coworkers despite its location within a block of our door. read more

Coming back last night, we had a great time with friends, but the food, drink and service was terrible. The limited drink selection was lackluster, the steak was burnt (both mine and my wife's), and the waiter was visibly uninterested. Of 10 people at the table, not one person mentioned that their food was good. Great choice to celebrate our anniversary! We got the petite tower - it had half dozen oysters, half pound of creole shrimp, chilled lobster, ceviche, and smoked whitefish rillete. We loved every single seafood here. Then we ordered three appetizers to try (honestly every single appetizer on their menu looks so good). Steak tartare was delicious, fried eggplant was crispy and it went very well with the goat cheese and grilled mushroom. Octopus was very tender and liked the sauce of the salad. For the main dishes, steak was cooked perfectly for medium rare request, the seasoning on the fries was good, wish the fries were crispier, and I think fries were a little too much on the plate. Beautiful atmosphere but meals were inconsistent. We were here for drinks a few weeks prior and had a good time so gave it a try for dinner. We waited quite awhile for our meal. The grilled cheese was delicious and the fries were tasty. Sadly the Korean bbq chicken lacked spice and the rice was very overcooked. The crispy chicken sandwich was also too crunchy and overcooked. My steak frites was ordered medium and had been cooked medium well. Very disappointing. The waiter was good and attentive. We didn't complain as we had waited and needed to get to a show. $200 isn't bad for four people and two alcoholic drinks, but I wish we would have picked another spot. We love good food and places we recently went...Matt and Tony's, Hyde Park, Gala Park Steak and Sidebar (consistently good service and meals) would have been better choices. Had dinner here last Saturday night, before going to the Palace theater, to see Jim Jeffries. We arrived early but were seated straight away. The place looked bright and clean and everything seemed to be perfect. Our wait person brought us out a menu and we ordered drinks, a White Russian for my wife and a glass of Pinot Noir for me. As we were sitting there studying the menu, we couldn't help but observe the food going past us, but we could not find on it the menu we had, so we enquired and were told there was a full time menu available, did we also want to too it?...Um yes please. Once we had the full menu we were able to place our order. I went for a classic, the Steak Frites. Theresa ordered the Short Rib Poutine and the French Onion Soup. We then noticed her White Russian glass was chipped, so we asked for a replacement. I also noticed one of the waiters, who seemed to be taking a long time to make adjustments to a table, as he placed down the silver, only to pick it back up and scowl...he then went back to the bar, retrieved a napkin, wetted it down and then returned to the table to try again. It took him 5 more minutes to fix it to his preferences. Our food arrived and it looked perfect, but the Steak was chewy. Theresa was also a little disappointed with the French Onion Soup, as she said the bread was not as crunchy as she would have liked. She did like the Poutine though. We finished up without having a dessert and headed over to the show, which was awesome! Loved the vibe of the bar and restaurant. Super cool. Dinner started out great. The cocktails were carefully crafted and amazing. Worth the price. I loved the paid lady- very cucumber forward. The hubby loved the old fashioned. Oysters were fresh and yummy. The lump crab was fantastic. Soup was also great. The service and mains was where it went slightly off the rails. The halibut was $34 and extremely bland and the greens were super bitter. We ended up having a couple bites of it and that was it. The steak frites were better- steak was cooked great except one piece that was completely raw in the middle. It comes with way too many fries. I'd love seeing it with half the fries and a small side salad. We ended the night with the buckeye dessert and it was ok cLooked beautiful though! Here's your newest hidden gem, Columbus. The Keep is the hotel bar within Hotel LeVeque, and everything about it is dark, sultry, romantic, and beautiful. This should most definitely be on your next date with your boo -- you will earn major bonus points. And let's be honest, bonus points with boo is always a good thing. The interior is really lovely and feels like exactly what a bar inside LeVeque should be. There are lots of cozy nooks and crannies for ultimate privacy. This is definitely not a place to see and be seen, and obviously I mean that as a good thing. We didn't eat anything, but we certainly drank. Their cocktail list is well-curated and crafted with high-end, local spirits. Pricey, but strong, creative, and delicious. Top notch. The service felt decidedly low-key and quiet. Not syrupy sweet, but definitely kind and efficient. The Keep feels like the most grown-up bar I've been to in a long time, and it's a much-needed addition to Downtown. read more

Sitting at the chef's counter is where it's at!!! Especially for a work traveler eating alone because it felt like I was eating with my friends who were cooking behind the counter. I LOVED the hospitality and the food was pretty great too. I had the citadel cocktail (yummy!) and the mussels for dinner. Not quite enough for dinner by a light meal. But... I'm so glad I had room for desert because I was able to sample some of the flavors before I committed to the Buckeye Profiteroles. We have been to this restaurant previously a few years back and had a lovely experience. This time, on the other hand, was a bust. Our waitress, Carrie, greeted us and was very pleasant. I ordered a French martini and my husband ordered Angels Envy on the rocks (a $21 pour). She said they were out and he asked the bartender for a recommendation. When she came back she said he recommended Weller Reserve. This went from a $21 pour to a $46 pour.... no thanks. Also, the two are nothing alike in taste. After about twenty minutes from the time we arrived, I finally received my cocktail. However , it was in a vintage like wine glass and looked/tasted nothing like a French martini. It literally looked like church wine. It was also warm. It was the most bizarre thing I've ever had put in front of me. I wish I had taken a picture. I tasted it and politely told her I couldn't drink it. I told her what was in a French martini and she said that's what they made it with. No.... I'm sorry... just no. Please don't fib. Please. I pulled up how to make a French martini and a picture of what it looked like. After another 10 minutes of waiting I got a French martini, made correctly, in a martini glass this time. We also tried to order a bottle of wine. We were told the bottle of Pinot noir we wanted was out, but we could have a different bottle, which was about $40 more. How convenient for them. We ended up getting a different bottle of wine, as we were now fully aware of their up charge tricks. Don't get me wrong. We don't mind paying for a lovely meal and drinks, but this is becoming a pattern at this point. For appetizers ordered the arugula, melon, and burrata salad, as well as the half cheese/charcuterie board. The salad was delicious and I barely shared any with my husband. The cheese/charcuterie board was extremely sub par. Very disappointing. It was literally as basic and plain as you can get. For dinner I had the steak frites and my husband had the filet. Both were okay, but nothing that makes me say to myself, "Wow, what an amazing meal. I want to come back soon. " Something that was really disturbing was what happened before we received our dinners. We stepped out for a minute (after notifying our server), and when we can back something looked different. I noticed my water was a yellowish color with a watered down ice cube in it. I looked at my husband quizzically, then saw his bourbon was missing. Whoever cleared our appetizer plates poured my husband's bourbon into my water glass. Ummm... what? Our server took it away, but stopped and discussed it with three other workers in front of us. The other servers/chefs brought it up again amongst themselves right in front of us, all glancing over during each conversation and staring. (Awkward and uncomfortable.) Luckily our wine was still there. Finally, the restaurant was beginning to quiet down around 9:45. Being seated in front if the chefs, we were also seated in front of where ticket orders come through. The female chef took the ticket, rolled her eyes, and let out a loud "ugh" because she didn't want to cook anymore. (Some comment like that was said after her performance of disgust with the ticket.) Again, awkward and uncomfortable. I'm so irritated with myself that I didn't take any pictures of this hot mess. It was also disappointing that not one person tried to make our experience better. It was a collective "oh well" attitude. We were celebrating a big event tonight as well. Needless to say, it truly dampened the occasion and we will not be returning. read more

I wish there was a way to review the restaurant part of the Keep separately from the bar part. I'd probably have give the restaurant three stars and the bar two. Since they are lumped together I'm forced to give my experience two stars. I went to the restaurant for restaurant week and had three courses. I had a watermelon salad, steak and a brownie. The salad was just a few chunks of watermelon with vinegar and some feta cheese. It was pretty lame. The steak and brownie were pretty good though. I also had a Manhattan and an Old Fashioned. I didn't think they were very good and they were very expensive. The service in the restaurant was good though. Now the service in the bar on the other hand... We went to the bar after the restaurant for one drink each (there was 4 of us.) After our 1 drink we requested the bill. Two of my friends were together and two separate bills. We told them that. They brought out one bill. We asked them to fix it. Awhile later they came back. They put the 2 people that were separate together and the 2 that wanted to be on the same bill separate. We asked them to fix it. They came back and tried again. This time the wrong drinks were on the bill. We asked them to fix it. After awhile they came back with the same incorrect bill. When they finally came back with the correct bills they offered us nothing to make up for the fact IT TOOK ALMOST 2 HOURS TO GET OUR CHECKS FOR 1 DRINK EACH!!!! read more

This bar is ascetically gorgeous. Even the Kala was a wonderful server. She took great care of us. I indulged in the Charcuterie board and the truffle nuts! The nuts were absolutely wonderful. I would definitely recommend trying this establishment. read more
