This place has a very interesting variety on the menu. Their seafood and Cajun is exceptional and yesterday I tried their barbecue and it beats any that I have tried in this region. Service was a touch slow but not bad as the place was jammed. For the record, it's the best value in the area. It is not a fancy place but the food is always top notch. Had dinner at the keg last night the service was great the food was even better. We had crawfish bread it was amazing then for dinner I had the Cajun platter more food than even I could eat and that's saying a lot. There were six of us in our party everyone had a different main course and everyone raved about how good their meal was . Everything was cooked perfect. Even though the place was packed the waitress made sure the glasses were never empty and that we were satisfied with our food and/or needed anything. My husband and I went here on a Saturday night and the Drunken Poets were playing, they were pretty good, but I didn't know the songs they were covering (they said Velvet Underground, Bob Dylan). We ordered the appetizer sampler with chicken wings, Louisiana toothpicks, fried mushrooms and cheesesticks. I had the shrimp sampler which had so many shrimp I couldn't finish it. The bacon wrapped jalapeño stuffed shrimp was awesome, and the hand breaded shrimp were yummy. I lived in Florida for 20 years, so I was a little nervous about the "fresh" oysters, but he shrimp were good, so maybe next time. My husband had BBQ, which he said was really good. Better shrimp than the Fishermans Wharf in Paducah, which is overpriced. Best place to eat within 30 miles, easy! read more

BEWARE: this is definitely NOT Cajun food. I was VERY disappointed. Traveling for work and have a favorite restaurant that I usually visit. Thought I would try something different and picked this place because of the high reviews and the idea of good ole spicy Cajun food. Ordered blackened salmon with red beans and rice. The salmon didn't taste the least bit blackened, although it did appear to have blackened seasonings. It just tasted like salmon. It was cooked well, but lacking in taste. The red beans and rice were just that, red beans over white rice. There absolutely no seasoning and much of the rice was crunchy (uncooked). My severs we nice and offered to bring Cajun seasoning (which they did), but this meal was not impressive and NOT something I would consider returning for in the future. Most folks around me seemed to be locals and they all seemed to be ordering the BBQ. Guess I made the wrong selection!! :( read more

Was in town for business and our hotel was right next door so we thought we would stop by for dinner. Had the Cajun sampler and it was very good. The andouille sausage was out if this world and the shrimp was delicious. The crawfish were a lot of work for little meat, but all in all a great place! The plate lunch is always excellent and the steak po-boy was delish! The appetizers ive tried are good sized portions for the $$$. Looking forward to sampling everything on the menu in time. Service is wonderful tho there's a tendency to forget about you after giving the check. However these waitresses are very busy @ lunch. I used to only go for the beer, bands & pool. Great menu selection but a little weak on the quality of the sides. Their Blue Plate allows you to pick one meat and three sides plus a bread. Smoked turkey and blackened chicken were both good. Recommended if you are in the mood for BBQ meat, cajun/creole, or fish on Fridays. read more

Love the food here. Smoking is allowed as is a bar. DH & I have been several times this year he always gets the ribs. I think they're like "Red Hot and Blue BBQ" just wonderful. The steaks I've had have always been done perfectly med-rare, and the fried sampler plate is my favorite. read more

First time trying alligator tail. Well seasoned and fried to perfection. Good, friendly service. This place was PACKED on a Friday night. Alligator tail cost $12.99 for a basket and Shocktop on draft was $4.50 a pint. Will definitely return when I am in Murray, KY. read more

Tried to eat here but you must enter through the smoking section and it was very noisy as well. I think this is a place for smokers and drinkers to get away from the trailer park. Food looked good online but they would not seat us at the big tables in non-smoking as they were holding out for a group and wanted us to wait 15-20 minutes in a smoke infested waiting area for a smaller table. This is illegal in most states now as I guess KY is just behind on laws or law enforcement. Keep on driving! read more

Went for lunch on Monday. Great food, friendly and great service. It was recently refurbished and it looks great. The atmosphere is casual, the food was very good. If you like homemade chips, order the "Keg Chips" they are great and come with a poppy seed sauce called, aptly, "keg Sauce" that was a perfect match for the seasoning on the chips. I travel frequently and try to classify a "best meal of the trip." I had the Crawfish Julie with blackened shrimp tonight and it easily won best meal of the month. It's a little coarser atmosphere than some might like (I was very comfortable sitting at the bar, drinking Busch Light, and talking with locals) but the food more than made up for it. It really pains me to write this review, because this had been one of my favorite restaurants since we moved to Murray six years ago. Change of ownership, change of chef? 180 degree change in quality of food. BBQ ribs still good, but sauce thin and without flavor, favorite side of tomato, onion and cucumber tasteless no vinegar zip to it, and my daughter's favorite, cajun crab legs, cold, no cajun spice and dry, meat impossible to get out of shell. Awesome experience and the food was amazing. Service was prompt and the people were courteous. The menu was so immense that it can be confusing, but no matter what you pick you can't go wrong. The waitresses were very helpful in describing the meals and helping me in making a selection that best suited my hunger. When the food got there it was great. My kids enjoyed their meals (which can be a difficult feat to accomplish) and my wife and I shared off each other's plates because the meals were so good we hated not to try everything. The meal was definitely worth the drive and we plan on visiting again soon. If smoking bothers you, go early enough that it's not allowed in the dining part and problem solved. read more

This is one of our favorite places to go in Murray, KY! The food is great! We frequent the meat market, the owner knows us and so do the servers. Everyone is so friendly! Every college student knows about the Keg for its bar scene and it's Wednesday Karaoke Night. However, what many people don't know is that the Keg has the most underrated food scene in Murray. They have amazing house smoked BBQ which could easily be considered competition worthy BBQ, it has an amazing flavor profile, crunchy bark, and a perfect smoke ring. The brisket is to die for! They also offer a great selection of Cajun food which is very rare in Western Kentucky let alone Murray. Depending on the season they have Crawfish, Oysters, Shrimp, and more. I could get pounds and pounds of their fried okra. I really wish they would bring back their fried and blackened frog legs! The bar scene here isn't bad, they have cheap drinks and all the major beer choices. They don't have a large craft beer selection but then again Nick's is the only bar with a wide variety of craft beer. They have live music on the weekends featuring many local favorites. read more

Good menu and staff, but the food was a little lacking all around. I was here with a group, and so we expected delays, but the waitresses were very attentive and helpful. I had the steak tips while two of my friends got the blackened shrimp pasta and the brisket sandwich. The tips were overdone and lacking in flavor. My salad was a pile of huge iceberg leaves with thick cut cucumber, shredded cheese, chopped tomato and croutons. It was large, but served on a hot plate, so the lettuce was wilted on the bottom. My friend tried to order a caesar salad as a side, but they only had iceburg lettuce. He had also tried to order the soft shell crab, but they didn't have that either. He said the brisket was good, but a little too fatty. This was obviously the case given the pile of fat he had pulled from the sandwich and left on his plate. The pasta eater said the food was ok, but not at all spicy for a blackened dish. The saving grace from all of those there was the gumbo. It is non-smoking until 8:30 pm, so if you don't like a smoky place, eat early. read more

Really like this place. The service is kind of slow, and we've have issues before, but the food is awesome. I like the brisket and the boudin/andouille platter and my wife always gets the blackened chicken platter. Best Food, Great Enviroment and Entertainment! You must visit this restaurant. They have daily and nightly specials. The owner is almost always there and cooks the meals to order. I had the Char-Grilled Oysters which were amazing and my friend had the Ribs. Their homemade sweet bbq sauce was good too. The staff was friendly and nice. The Keg was recommended by the desk clerk at the Holiday Inn Express, who told us he had heard many guests telling about their great experience. What a great recommendation! Great food, great service. Menu is vast, but hard to get past the daily or weekly specials! VERY tough to decide, (even halfway through a pitcher of Amberbock!)But as it was "Boiled Cajun Seafood Tuesday," I decided to go with it, but STILL couldn't decide between the shrimp or crawfish. But the price was so low on each, almost appetizer cost, I went with BOTH. At the end I couldn't help remember the 70's alka seltzer commercial "I can't believe I ate the WHOLE thing!" Both were tremendous! My wife got the Bluegill dinner, delicious but for the price was WAY too much food also! And all this while passing on some GREAT special prices for steaks!
